As a society, there’s a lot of responsibility put on pets and not so much on their caregivers.

Cats are expected to kill the mice and be avoidant.

Dogs are expected to alert the house and put their life on the line for their caregivers.

If anything goes awry, it’s automatically put on the animal and not the individual responsible for them.

We often forget, as a society, that our pets and animals are relying on us, like our children.

Like our children, they rely on us for food and comfort.

Like our children, they rely on us for socialization and guidance.

Like our children, they rely on us to pave the way for them to confidently navigate life.

The difference between our pets and children is only that our animals unfortunately do not last as long as humans, which makes it so much more important to love them while they’re around.

The looks I get when I say I have 5 children and only 1 is human could make me easily snap, but those people aren’t deserving of my rage.

Imagine someone so sad and broken that they can’t take any value in something else’s love or life? It’s devastating.

But through all the negativity in the world, I’d like to remind everyone that your pets are more than just animals.

And to them, you are the provider. The security blanket. The bringer of food and pats. The words of love and encouragement. They understand you. They need you. They’re relying on you.

Let’s never forget that.
