I FINALLY GOT ONE OF THESE, YIPPEE!!!! (and the last one ever, too....) Anyways, I'm going to answer the storytelling one, bc that's what I do.

For me it depends on the scene. If I can find a lot from tumblr or the gallery, great! I'll download it and modify it a little if I need to. But if no such thing exists (that I can find at least), or at least no such thing that fits my vision or needs, I'll make it myself. Being a fantasy storyteller, that happens more often than I'd like. I'm absolutely terrible at exteriors, so whenever possible I'll use someone else's lot as a shell. But for interiors, I don't mind decorating in the slightest, and I honestly enjoy doing landscaping for outdoor scenes.

All of the rooms in the The Palace I either decorated myself or had a friend decorate for me. I also built (and shared!) the lot from Kristopher's date. I also built the exterior of the garrison for Nina's date. Oh, and I build the pond lot from Duncan's date!

The graveyard from the prologue, the exterior area from Lavinia's date, the stables from Kristopher's date, the ruins from Nora's date, and the town from Hermes's date were all existing lots that I downloaded from either tumblr or the gallery. I did modify all of them slightly, though, be it by adding decosims or decor items.

If you're interested in seeing some of the stuff I've built, be it for RTQ, for edits, or just for fun, there's a lot of pics in the "ts4 build" tag on my blog. Most of it is stuff I made for RTQ, but Wolf's rooms are also in the tag. (And if I finish Zara's office and remember to take pics, I'll post those too.)

alright, the platform idea worked, now I just need to know two things:

Has anyone ever made a dirt-textured platform trim? And

Does anyone know of any fresh/open grave cc?? (like the rim of dirt that would be around a dug up grave). Or even just lines/piles of dirt in general? I know I used to have some before I lost all my files, bc I distinctly remember using it once before, but I obviously don't have it anymore.

Gonna try what @sirianasims suggested and mess around with platforms, but if that doesn't work, I now have another plan for an Avra edit... So fingers crossed I can make at least one of these happen.

Now, if only I could find a good jester outfit for Aspen's patron...

the fact that ts4 only allows for super gradually sloped terraforming is literally going to ruin this entire edit idea. I need a hole in the ground!!!! Not a gradual divot!

The fact that I haven't made a character edit/render of Cyra, Avra, or Aspen is CRIMINAL. I have a good idea for Aspen, just need to find an outfit for their patron. I have a vague idea for Cyra, and now that I have the Skiff I'm one step closer to making it reality. And I have an idea now for Avra too, which is nice. Might actually work on that one today, at least planning-wise...

Rant: The early access model has kind of creatively bankrupted CC, actually.

finished a render and realized there's a tiny mistake. don't re-render the whole thing: a tutorial

realized a lot of people don't know that you can do this so here's a quick post on it!

so let's say i didn't notice the hair was clipping with the ear like this:

i render out the whole thing and it takes like 30 minutes. only after do i notice. save the messed up version! then do this:

fix whatever's clipping or messed up or you just want to change. so now let's only render what we fixed. use control + b to draw a square around the part you changed.

this will only render what's in that box. it only took a minute in cycles! (it's usually shorter than this, honestly. i was just doing some weird things in this render. also you couldn't even see his ear in the lighting lol)

save this piece, and then in photoshop, you can lay the fixed part over the clipping version, and there!!!

if for whatever reason you need to clear the mask, you can just hit control+alt+b.

(minor problem if you use ambient occlusion or glare compositing nodes, there will be a slight border on the edges, but you can just erase it! make sure to give yourself enough room on the edges!)

another simblr poll time, because I'm curious:

*By "primarily" I mean your initial reason for making poses. If you make them for yourself and then happen to share all or some of them, you still primarily make them for yourself. If you make poses to release and don't really use them yourself, then you make them primarily for public release.

If you don't know what any of these things are, I talk about all of them or have links to posts about all of them (except for the pose-helper rigs) in my custom/base rig tutorial, which you can find here.
