stop asking people’s pronouns. real life isnt the internet. asking someone’s pronouns in real life with people around is fucking degrading. we all know you wouldnt ask a cis person’s pronouns. when you ask, a trans person hears “i’m not sure if you’re actually the gender you’re presenting as. do you mind if i embarrass you and get really invasive on a personal level?” not to mention you might out the person youre asking to whoever else is around.

if youre really fucking lost, ask their name, or just guess by by how they present. the worst that can happen is you get corrected and you can be respectful about it. these are basic social conventions that should be left unsaid.

in conclusion, trans people are regular people and you should treat us normally. thanks for coming to my ted talk.

What's more terrifying is I don't remember him even mentioning evolution. He's given "viable" reasons that the Earth is flat, then laughed it off. So the fact that the kids take this information at face value as the absolute truth, when not even Shane truly believes it, is terrifying for that generation. They're not questioning what they see or looking further into it. They're taking Shane's videos (in each one, he states that all of the things he says are theories and opinions, not the facts) as the 100% truth that shouldn't be questioned. This isn't a problem with what Shane is doing, he's talking about conspiracies that people find interested. This is a problem with the kids taking a conspiracy theory and using it as their own "opinion." More likely the parents, not encouraging kids to take information in to form their own opinion based on things they know about the topic. I'm not arguing that Shane hasn't made some really sus content, I'm arguing that he's solely to blame for kids having conspiracy theories for opinions.

my mom is an eighth grade science teacher and was complaining to me about how many of her students don’t believe in evolution or the moon landing and spent a whole class period trying to argue with her that the earth is flat and she was like “yeah they all said they watch this guy on youtube who says this stuff…shawn something” and i was like “wait was his name shane dawson?” and she said “oh my god YES”

so that’s terrifying!
