any thoughts on the 9th/11th/12th doctors?
I’m being completely honest here: I have only watched 13, a bit of 14, and 15’s single episode
Two of my friends like 12 the best tho, so he’s cool

Spymaster doesn’t treat yaz like she’s unimportant and I think it’s because yaz is important. She’s important to the doctor
Especially in spyfall the master clicks onto yaz- weirdly so, calling her out specifically on the plane, saying she should stick with him and then before the plain kinda just… being around her.
And then again in the power of the doctor he could just kill her or do something to her to cause the dr pain, but he doesn’t, he keeps her around even after getting rid of 13. He never disregards her like the other villains and it makes their dynamic interesting
i think one of the reasons yaz is often overlooked/underrated is how she's treated by the narrative, especially compared to other companions (the same goes for Ryan, graham, and Dan, btw, but im focusing on yaz bc it's most obvious with her). she doesn't get a fancy nickname, and she's not important to the lore - she's not impossible, of the bad wolf, or the first cyberman, she's just yaz. even the villains treat her that way - swarm, the skithra queen, even the daleks. in demons of the punjab you never get any inkling that prem's death is a fixed point, that it'd be the end of the timeline if the doctor saved him - not like pete, where the reapers got summoned. the only thing that would happen, if prem lived, is yaz and her family would vanish (and, at this point, we don't know half of what yaz would go on to do, so). and it would be tragic, but it wouldn't matter.
but that's the trap.
because if you get caught up in the fact that she is presented as unimportant, you fall into the same mistake as the villains, and even yaz herself to some degree (and she gets some insane shots at her insecurities, like even the daleks get personal), you miss just how much she matters. (and I could talk about recklessness stemming from yaz seeing herself as less important than what she's trying to achieve but rhats not the point of this post)
because then we come to "can't have a universe with no yaz", the person who always comes - the doctor, and graham "keep making humanity proud" and ryan pledging that he'll never let her die and dan talking about how amazing she is and, if you haven't been paying attention, it can feel like character shilling, bc it runs counter to how she's framed in the narrative, by herself, and by enemies.
by the standards of doctor who companions, yaz is ordinary, unimportant - but doctor who is always been about how important a single person, who is willing to try, can be.

You know what? You’re so right. She is iconic for that
i think yaz doesn't get enough credit for her tendency to jump at the chance to shittalk a billionaire. including to their faces.

Oh I can tell you it isn’t productive to “reason” with me because arguments rarely lead to either side changing their opinions. I do feel like you aren’t actually listening to my takes tho.
14 might not overshadow 15 in the show, but in a large part of the fandom, he will. Thats my opinion. It’s not the actor I don’t have faith in, it’s the fandom.
And yea, my opinions are motivated by spite for 14. I’m spiteful he got a happy ending, I’m spiteful he still exists, I’m spiteful he existed at all. That doesn’t invalidate my thoughts though
I really disagree with and don’t like the bi-generation. I might’ve mentioned this before? But it feels like they just have David tenant in their back pocket to bring out when views drop too much? I’m sure they probably won’t do that, but I don’t like that the first (numbered) black doctor has to share with the most popular doctor of like- all time. It’s weird, and bi-generation is just fucking dumb? And if anything in the recent years “breaks canon/lore” it feels like that would be the closest.

I mean share because David tenant and his doctors are the fandoms favorite little white guy. I mean share because I know how fandom reacts, I know how the doctor who fandom reacts. I mean share because the first numbered black doctor and the first black doctor to get any good screen time or episodes will have to have the fandoms. Favorite. White. Boy. In his series.
The first I heard of the trailer was an article saying that you might’ve missed David tenant in it. The only reason he was even brought back is because he is the fandoms favorite white boy. Views had dropped to to mostly fucking mysoginists but also Covid and bad writing. 14 being David tenant instead of either keeping 13 for 3 more episodes and giving her the happy ending or cutting straight to 15 and not having the stupid fucking bigeneration has overshadowed both the 13th doctors departure and 15’s arrival.
Will 14 overshadow 15 in the show? Maybe, i don’t know, but will he overshadow him in the fandom? I have no fucking doubt.
Hopefully I’m wrong. Hopefully the fandom can be normal. I just don’t have that much hope. So yea. 14 will/has/can overshadow 15.

Genuinely, thank you. Kerblam isn’t one of my favorite episodes by far, and my original post was mostly made out of annoyance with people saying shit and then not backing it up with anything more than an out of context quote, or speculation.
Having it put out like this? I can totally understand why people don’t like this episode and why they call it pro capitalism and also realized things I should’ve realized originally, so- thanks, genuinely liked reading that and now I have a better understanding of stuff
Saying kerblam is pro capitalism is fucking dumb and you’re wrong. I usually try to avoid telling people their takes of an episode is dumb and wrong(at least to their faces) but this time it is. And I’ll prove it.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s anti-capitalism, but to say it’s pro isn’t right either. Kerblam is pretty obviously a stand in for any big corporation, and since Amazon is, well, Amazon, I’m using it in my comparisons.
We learn early on that kerblam is on a moon and it’s heavily implied that the human workers stay there year round (Dan saying he splurges twice a year to see his daughter) but this isn’t framed as a good thing- there’s no way to frame that as a good thing. It’s framed very obviously as sad, he’s sad he can’t see his kid any more because he has to work.
There’s also a very high unemployment rate, as stated by multiple characters, which again: it’s shown as a bad thing. Hell- Charlie says as much. It’s bad, it’s terrible, it shouldn’t be. And no one argues with him- the doctor agrees! It is terrible that so many people are unemployed, but it’s not the AI’s fault
That’s the moral. AI is not responsible for the people who use it for wrong (please note for this next part: how it is right now, I am not pro-AI, this is from a strictly scifi perspective where the AI has a conscious(?)). AI could be an incredibly helpful tool, but how it’s being used irl and in the epsiode, it’s not good.
Where real life and Dr who depart is that the AI in kerblam is- if not sentient, close enough that it knows to send for help so innocent people don’t die. Which is what would’ve happened! Charlie had a good goal. But how he went about it- the way he decided to try and fix the issue was to kill countless people.
This episode isn’t saying Kerblam is good. It isn’t saying the practices of big companies like Kerblam or Amazon is good. It actively discourages it, actually. It’s saying that AI is not at fault for how people use it, that to make a problem better you shouldn’t murder a bunch of innocent people. It’s not pro-capitalism. Stop it.
And if you have an actual argument with evidence from the episode I’d be happy to hear it! But only if it includes actual evidence :)

I said actual evidence from the episode. This is just fucking speculation from a like less than 5 minute scene, plz learn to read

Huh- I knew the bit about them being friends but I’ve never looked at it this way? But it makes total sense… the only bits about 13’s run they included in the specials was calling her a brilliant woman/donna saying smth about it I think? and the flux, only one being actually about her-
Honestly amazing points, like damn, I definitely see him in a different light now- also appreciate the insults you come up with they’re just brilliant
Please I'm so so curious to hear your thoughts on 10/14
Ok so my thoughts on 10 are less than 14 so let’s start with him lol. I have not watched 10, so my hatred of him is more hatred by proxy of how the fandom treats him and proxy of 14, but I still do have a few specific thoughts and this will be long and definitely rambly
A) when talking about him I usually refer to him as Fandom’s Favorite White Boy or Pathetic Wet Cat/Twink mostly because it’s funny but for now I’ll use 10. The most I know about 10 is that he is angsty and in love with rose and besties with Donna… also that he’s pathetic but that’s more vibes
So- my hate of 10 is less tangible than 14 but i still have a few points, the main one being the way i see ppl talk about how he treated Martha and how obsessed with rose he was. I don’t think it’s ever compelling to have someone’s main personality trait be loving someone a whole lot which also honestly is my problem with rose (don’t hate her but don’t care about her)
From what I have seen and heard of 10 it’s rather… boring, honestly? Like it’s mostly clips out of context but for 13 and 15 I saw clips out of context and was like “ok wth is happening? /pos” with 10 it’s more like “wtf?” Also pretty sure his episodes were some of the ones I saw when my parents had the show on that played a part in me swearing the show off so
Ok onto the more tangible hatred of 14. A lot of this, admittedly, is more about the writing and showrunner decisions than 14 but those things by proxy makes me hate him
So- I have a lot of feelings on him quite literally starting from his first appearance in power of the doctor. I am SO PETTY that he doesn’t wear 13’s silly little outfit. Like I have gone on full rants about that fact to my friends and family
I’ve seen something claim that rtd didn’t want 14 to wear her outfit because people might be transphobic and derogatory towards him (even tho Dhawan!master wore it, and it’s pretty gender neutral) but then did nothing about the shit ppl said about ruby’s actor or about ppl who would be a bitch about rose the second being nonbinary(also i remember seeing a post about their deadname being mentioned in an episode? Not totally sure that’s true tho)
The 60th anniversary specials themselves don’t really celebrate Dr who as a whole as much as 10’s run with a few old villains but that’s not really my main issue with that. My main issue with the specials is that the Doctor gets their happy ending. With Donna. And her family. When fucking 3-4 episodes prior, their happy ending would’ve been yaz. It would’ve been staying with yaz. But nope! Donna! Because that’s what 10 would’ve wanted.
And I don’t want 14 to be with yaz, btw, I mean I want them to meet and for yaz to hit him, but I don’t want them to be a thing or like be together because I believe yaz is a lesbian but that’s not the point of this so moving on
I also have very much big issues with the scene where 15 and 14 are (presumably, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the full scene) talking about women they love and mention who I assume to be River and rose but not yaz, who again, they wanted to spend forever with 3-4 episodes prior. It makes the doctor seem like a douchebag even if it’s a writing issue and not a character issue
Also 14 being David tenant overshadows 13’s departure and 15’s arrival and since he is most likely going to show up at least a little bit in s14 he’ll overshadow 15 in his own series. It’s icky at the very least.
There’s something inherently bad about having the fandoms Favorite White Boy be with a contentious casting decision (because I have no faith in the Dr who fandom not to be bigoted) and even if no one has an issue with 15 being black and maybe gay (is he gay? He gives gay vibes) it’s still setting him up for failure by pairing him with 14
Also bigeneration is so fucking dumb and I hate it
Also also stop giving the Dr 19 year old companions it’s getting kinda weird now

You get it!
I’m having more thoughts about yaz/thasmin (please, everyone act surprised, I have a reputation to uphold /sar)
So her arc is being more like the doctor, right? Yea, that’s her arc, her story. She fills the role as doctor when 13 can’t, it’s lovely, I love it, one of my favorite things about the series because I too pick up bits and pieces of the people I love
But. Imagine. 13 doing the same. 13 using phrases yaz does or talking with the same infliction or copying movements
also imagine: yaz learning bits and leaves of gallifryen (how the fuck do you spell that?), not the whole thing, but common phrases in the tardis, names of where they go often (earth, Britain, etc), yaz learning how to read the tardis’ screens- maybe not speak it but read it, yea
Or 13 getting into the habit of eating/laying down whenever yaz does, just wanting to be close to her without knowing how to ask. Mirroring her companion’s actions as a way to spend more time together even if it’s just a few minutes for a snack break
Also the doctor throwing away morals any time yaz is in danger- throwing herself into pent up anger and pain to protect the person closest to her, the person she loves, one she can’t lose.
Yaz finding books in the tardis’ library (cuz the tardis has a library) and not understanding a language, asking 13 to translate for her
13 being terrible at cooking so yaz makes their food
Yaz always having random stuff in her pockets (which are bigger thanks to 13) because 13’ll hand her stuff and forget to get it back
13 consistently emptying her pockets onto yaz’s hand anytime she’s looking for something (like a lot)

Omg that’d be amazing
Do you think yaz was named after herself? That as she grew up umbreen remembered the British people who crashed her wedding? That on her birthday, when she gives yaz the watch she made the connection? Or if she meets the doctor she does?
Do you think umbreen knows it was her yaz at her wedding?
