hello comrades i need your help with translation again ):

we are translating robert heinlein's "the door into summer" and there was one paragraph which confused me and idk what it means

"I looked up as the waiter leaned over the table and said to him, “A double shot of your bar scotch, a glass of plain water, and a split of ginger ale.”

The waiter looked upset. “Ginger ale, sir? With scotch?”

“Do you have it, or don’t you?”

“Why, yes, of course. But — ”

i don't understand what does 'sneer' mean in this context.. i looked through google translate & dictionaries and i was told it means "to mock, to laugh at something"etc etc

does it actually mean it? or there is some other meaning? is it some slang maybe?

these girls are rizumu's rivals in the manga (where she is also in a unit called asterism with serena and kanon. aira & mion don't exist here)

i don't know anything else about them but god they look so cool. i love everything about them already. i'm captivated by their jfashion-esque swag. THE GREMLIN CATGIRL STOLE MY HEART

i really can't understand why did they have to cut them out from the anime entirely... (looking at manga's plot i don't understand these changes at all, but at least kanon and serena were still there!)
