hot artists don't gatekeep
I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard
Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.
Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.
Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.
Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.
SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.
SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.
Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.
Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.
Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.
Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.
Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

Dear mutuals and followers,, today I bring you a completely unasked for but hopefully helpful list of art resources I use to try and improve my art
(I've been practicing for ~30 minutes every other day since November)
AdorkaSketch: Mostly for poses, they also have a Deviantart if you want something more specific. Specially good if you need a reference for a drawing.
QuickPoses: They have challenges but also timed practice! Great photo variety and just very good for practice
Sketchdaily: This site and its subreddit are just very helpful, the subreddit has daily drawing prompts and the website has a class mode!
Line of action: What it says on the tin. It's dedicated to identifying the line of action and the flow of poses and its very helpful to making your poses more dynamic!!

HOW TO DRAW RESOURCES
FREE THINGS YOU CAN FIND ON THE INTERNET
Art Fundamentals
https://drawabox.com - Great for art fundamentals and the very start of your art journey. If you stick to it you’ll get a great grasp on the more technical side of art fundamentals, but I’ll be honest, it can be rather boring!! If you just started out, I recommend using Part One and doing your best, because it’ll give you a good control over your choice of media be it pen or tablet pen. If you go further in…honestly, there’s been some great results from it based off of the reddit.
Proko (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClM2LuQ1q5WEc23462tQzBg)  - Teaches how to do figure drawing in particular. Pretty much the origin of a lot of beginner artist’s and how they draw figure drawings—in particular, because Proko himself is inspired by great artists such as Glenn Vilppu. Most of the content found in his channel has a “premium” vers, but honestly, you don’t need the premium. It just goes more in depth and more into the technicalities. Of course, if you think you need it, it’s definitely a worthwhile investment!
Digital Painting
https://www.ctrlpaint.com - Seriously, it’s an entire free library on how to digitally paint. Most of this content can be utilized throughout different programs, such as Krita and Medibang and Photoshop. If you’re starting out digitally painting, I recommend utilizing this resource because the artist behind it went into a LOT of detail on different tips and tricks. Need help figuring out your workflow? There’s a video for that. Sketches? There’s a video for that.
Photographic Resources
https://characterdesignreferences.com - Y'know how pinterest has that same ol aesthetic of some girl pouting up you that you can’t escape no matter how many diverse things you follow? Well, this has far more than that. Character designs, art books, body types, skin colors, film stills, etc etc. Go here first if you’re after non-irl references.
https://line-of-action.com/practice-tools -  Has timed classes to practice your gesture drawing, or you can increase the time so that it’s more like a live study. Has figures, animals, hands and feet, expressions, and environmental sections. One of the earliest resources I’ve used. Great in combination with Proko’s lessons.
https://www.adorkastock.com - A very great resource! Stock images done by a group that have been doing this since 2007 and have one goal: get you to draw accurately!  You want fantasy art? There’s a fantastical sections! There’s jumping poses! There’s a little bit of everything! Also one of the earliest resources there has been.
PAID RESOURCES:
https://www.3dtotalpublishing.com - Publishes books dealing with art topics. Very indepth. I recommend “Art Fundamentals 2nd edition” and “Art Fundamentals Theory in Practice”—-learn art fundamentals, then critique your own art in the scenario that for whatever reason you can’t find an art group that does it! Caution: the text is rather small for my tastes, but I have notoriously bad eyesight.
https://www.nma.art - NMA is basically for people who want an art school experience but can’t quite afford actual art school. When you enroll, NMA sends you a list to the course guide. There’s multiple different tracks to choose based on what you personally want to learn. Sculptures? How to draw animals? Illustration? If you felt like it you could honestly just learn whatever you personally feel like doing at that minute, but personally I recommend sticking to the course schedule for the sake of structure. Has a lot of famous artists on here—remember that Glenn Vilppu person I mentioned? Well, he’s on here too. He teaches his own courses! Nice! NOTE: NMA is best suited for people interested in traditional and classical art, but they emphasize that you can use whatever media suits you best. If you can adapt the traditional lessons to digital, then more power to ya!
https://www.svslearn.com - A structured approach to learning illustrations, especially children’s illustrations. Great for digital artists, and also has a 30 day free trial if you’re a bit iffy. There’s also a lot more classes other than the curriculum list! It’s a art school designed by a couple of childrens storybook illustrators, so if you’re fascinated by cartoonish drawings I really recommend this site for that path. They also have a podcast that delves into the topic of art!

Looking for Something? (MASTER POST)
08/05/2021: Okay so there’s a bunch of newbies here. I had to change the title because Tumblr loves to fuck this post over.
I basically gave up fixing the tags here for a long time because it’s harder to update links when Tumblr keeps updating their html codes every 5 months
The best possible experience I can give you is to use this post on desktop or on a browser app instead.
Sorry for the inconvience, but please before you send an ask, check out my Other: Queen Speaks tag first, Thanks
-QueenSweeties
21/01/2019: *I tried updating it so it can Mobile friendly, but it still isn’t working well. Since the tumblr update it screwed both Android and Apple users. What I tried today is replacing http:// to https://
Unfortunately it barely made a difference. If you can still manage to get through to a post with the tag you’re looking for, click on the tag itself applied on the post. Sorry for the inconvenience
I am not one to know anything about coding and please consider my Other: Queen Speaks tag before heading to my inbox. Thanks

Edgar Allan Poe is known for his macabre and gothic writing styles. His poetry and short stories still serve as inspiration and reference to people to this date. That's why, I've assembled a small but interesting list of some of his best poems and short stories, along with online links to them, as well as added a few free websites where you can find information about Edgar Allan Poe.
Poetry.
The Raven.
A Valentine.
The Valley of Unrest.
For Annie.
The Haunted Place.
Annabel Lee.
Prose.
The Black Cat.
The Casket of Amontillado.
The Fall of the House of Usher.
Ligeia.
The Murders in the Rue Morgue.
The Tell-tale Heart (my personal favourite).
The Pit and the Pendulum (my other favourite).
Berenice.
More Info.
Centred around Poe.
Some of Poe's poems.
Literary Theory and Criticism.
Role of Depression in Poe's works.
I hope this helps!

feel better;  it’s been a long week, not moving from your permanently dark bedroom, your phone forgotten under the bed with a hundred missed messages, but you’re finally opening your eyes and seeing a sliver of early morning sunlight filter in behind the curtains that a mysterious breeze blew open.
daisy chains;  it’s late spring or early summer and you’re dozing with your best friends in the grass, the slow and peaceful brush of the warm breeze keeping you in that state of just waking from a pleasant dream.
songs to run away to;  you’re packing an overnight bag and taking the first bus out of the city. you’re not exactly running away, but you don’t plan on coming back. all you know is that your only goal is to keep on running.
classical jams;  it’s your fancy neighbour’s annual ball held in their gothic castle and you’re getting turnt to tchaikovsky while very deliberately disappointing your parents who wanted you to use the occasion to find an upstanding suitor.
dark academia but it slaps;  vague fuck the school system vibes, doing stupid shit with your close friends, caffeinated all-nighters, a chaotic gleam in your eye as you throw paper planes made from your essays out of the highest window in campus, not knowing if your friend really did commit murder. in this household we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

TO THOSE MAKING NATIVE OCS
I see this a lot, no one has actual names, or any reference for names, that are legit Native American, varying among the tribes, for their characters.
Babynames.com and shit like that will give you names made up by white people.
However, I’ve got your solution.
Native-Languages  is a good website to turn to for knowledge on a lot of native things, including native names. If you’re unsure about the names you’ve picked, they even have a list of made up names here!
Please don’t trust names like babynames.com for native names, they’re made up and often quite offensive to the cultures themselves.

disclaimer: I am east asian. if anyone who is not white sees anything wrong with my phrasing, inaccuracies, or insensitivity, or something I missed, please feel free to add on. I’m just one person with one perspective; none of what I say should be taken as The Singular way to draw an Asian character. if you havent done so already, please take the effort to expand your view of Asian culture outside this one tutorial.
if a white person reblogs this and adds something stupid I’m going to bite and kick you like a wild animal

Reading in your target language just got so much easier
Tumblr media
This cool little website, called readlang, allows you to upload your book, in your target language, from epub form into their website, right? And you just read your book from there. When you don’t know a word, what do you do? Do you go to google dot com and type in that word? Nope. You fucking click it. And it tells you the word.
I am currently reading the 100 (this is the book that the tv show came from) and I can already tell reading this way is so much easier. I highly suggest making an account. It’s free, and works for more than 80 languages!
