Reblogging because this is so important. We are a minority and should not be made to feel inferior. The stereotypes that we’re cold/uneducated/stupid/evil and only good for manual labour is toxic and needs to be stopped ❌🚫

ok so I watched Stranger Things 3 and it just so happens I’m Slavic and…. I REALLY REALLY hoped they’d kinda flip that “evil Russian” stereotype. I’m really tired that all Slavic ppl are depicted as heartless and with no personality. They had a chance to change it with Alexei but guess what! They KILLED HIM. Also, he has almost no lines in the series.

I understand ST is set shortly after the Cold War and that was the narrative people got sold. The problem is people still think that about Slavic ppl. Also, you wouldn’t make your film racist bc that’s how people thought in the past right? You’d give some commentary. Or simply humanize poc and show their struggle. 

Slavs are one of the few groups you’re still allowed to mock/villanize on tv. I get it, we’re mostly white so it is not racism but it is still not ok! We still got discriminated against in e.g. Western Europe. We’re thought to be stupid, alcoholic, only good for blue collar jobs (which I respect but we also do other things), probably in a mafia and some other stereotypes. 

It is not cool when your culture is a punchline. When your accent is laughable/scary to people instead of being cool like French/Spanish. Please stop! IT IS NOT OK. Please spread the word because people are still not aware that bad representation hurts people.
