White holes are theoretical cosmic regions that function in the opposite way to black holes. Just as nothing can escape a black hole, nothing can enter a white hole. White holes were long thought to be a figment of general relativity born from the same equations as their collapsed star brethren, black holes.

NASA wants to figure out how future moon-dwellers can produce, capture and store breathable oxygen from lunar soil. Even though the day when humans live and work on the moon is still in the unidentified future, NASA is actively planning for how to get us there.

AC Herculis is a binary star about 4,200 light years away. The primary star is well-studied, while its partner is invisible. It has a polar circumbinary disk, which is unusual but not unheard of. In a new paper, a team of researchers presents evidence for the polar circumbinary exoplanet: https://rb.gy/rde01s

The newly identified quasar, observed 13.7 billion light-years away by NASA's James Webb Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory, could be an example of a heavy black hole "seed" in the early universe: https://rb.gy/4qfyj0

The Crab Nebula is cataloged as M1, Spanning about 12 light-years, the Nebula is a mere 6,500 light-years away in the head-strong constellation Taurus. The Crab Pulsar is a relatively young neutron star at the center of Crab Nebula. The pulsar is a tiny object by astronomical standards – only about six miles across – but has a mass greater than that of the Sun and rotates at a rate of 30 times a second.

Scientists have proposed that the large low-shear-velocity provinces (LLVPs), or "blobs," deep within Earth's mantle are remnants of a protoplanet called Theia. The collision between Theia and Earth 4.5 billion years ago led to the formation of the Moon and left behind parts of Theia near Earth's core.

The red supergiant brightened by almost 50% earlier this year, triggering speculation that it may go supernova. But new research suggests there's something completely different happening with Betelgeuse that has nothing to do with its recent fluctuations. It may have consumed a smaller companion star...🌟

An eight-billion-year-old burst of energy has been discovered, demonstrating that we can detect and measure matter between galaxies. The discovery opens a path to using fast radio bursts to explore the expansion of the Universe and ultimately even 'weigh' the Universe. But it will require even more powerful telescopes.

Even if you took an empty container devoid of all matter and cooled it to absolute zero, there is still "something" in the container. That something is called quantum foam, and it represents particles blinking into and out of existence: https://rb.gy/jyiia

The Oort cloud represents the very edges of our solar system. The thinly dispersed collection of icy material starts roughly 200 times farther away from the sun than Pluto and stretches halfway to our sun's nearest starry neighbor, Alpha Centauri.
