Ukraine has moved its celebration of Christmas to December 25th like most of the world. As a relic of Russian domination, it had previously observed Christmas in January as Moscow still does.
Many Ukrainian Orthodox Christians are preparing to celebrate Christmas on 25 December for the first time this year.
Ukraine has traditionally used the Julian calendar, also used by Russia, where Christmas falls on 7 January.
In a further shift from Russia, it is now marking Christmas according to the Western - or Gregorian - calendar, which it uses in everyday life.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky changed the law in July, saying it allowed Ukrainians to "abandon the Russian heritage" of celebrating Christmas in January.
In a Christmas message issued on Sunday evening, Mr Zelensky said all Ukrainians were now together.
"We all celebrate Christmas together. On the same date, as one big family, as one nation, as one united country."

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), a newly created independent church that held its first service in 2019, has also changed its Christmas date to 25 December.
It formally broke away from the Russian Orthodox church over Moscow's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its support for separatists in eastern Ukraine.
So to our friends in Ukraine, we wish you...

I can't believe that another year has passed since my last post about our Independence Day.
I want to thank our military again, who have been fighting for our independence and protecting our homes and lives for the ninth year.
I also, want to thank the volunteers who collect funds, find and deliver the necessary goods, save the lives of people and animals.
And thank you to everyone who joins the path to victory, with their work or donations.
I congratulate all Ukrainians on the 32nd anniversary of our Independence, and I wish us the fastest victory.
GLORY TO UKRAINE 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

Zelenskyy to visit Washington after U.N. appearance
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with President Joe Biden and key members of Congress in Washington next week, a person familiar with the plans confirmed to POLITICO on Thursday evening.
Zelenskyy’s stop-off in Washington will follow his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he hopes to shore up support for his country in the war against Russia.
Zelenskyy will meet with Biden at the White House next Thursday and will also visit Capitol Hill, The Associated Press reported.
About a third of the House GOP caucus does support Ukraine. So President Zelenskyy's visit will likely highlight divisions among Republicans.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Olena Zelenska ("bird version" WIP)
Note: Rooster is a majestic, responsible and brave animal despite the small size - and so this is in fact a very respectful portrait of the noble figure. I mean really very VERY respectful.
And just a little bit cute by the way❤

“I believe that our big victory consists of small ones. Small victories of every person, victories over cold, hunger, and despair.”
Moving words from Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, in her speech to attendees of the Web Summit in Portugal.
I’m continually inspired by her bravery, courage, and for being the voice of her people and country.
