13.
“주영아”
소리��는 쪽으로 시선을 옮겼다. 수풀이 조금 흔들리는가 싶더니 나를 이 곳으로 밀어 넣었던 신이 수풀 밖으로 걸어 나왔다. 헝클어졌던 머리는 잘 정돈되어 있었고 몸 이곳 저곳에 붙어있던 풀과 이끼의 흔적은 더 이상 보이지 않았다. 그녀는 옅은 미소를 짓고 있었는데, 그것은 웃음과 울음이 뒤섞인 이상한 표정이었다. 그녀가 입을 여는 모습을 본 것 같진 않았지만 목소리가 들려왔다.
“미안해. 많이 기다렸지?”
그 순간 쌀이 쏟아지는 듯한 소리와 함게 비가 내리며 이끼들이 차분하게 주변의 나무들을 덮어갔다.
“기다리게 해서 미안해. 이제…”
그녀가 손을 내밀었다.
“나랑 같이 가자”
하얗고 가는 손등에 떨어진 빗방울이 구슬처럼 맺혔다 미끄러져 내려갔다.

끝이 보이지 않게 뻗어있는 나무들 아래 허름한 본향당이 서있다. 본향당 처마 밑엔 아이 하나가 하늘을 보고 있다. 마치 떨어지는 빗방울이 어디서 오는지 확인 하려는 것 같다. 아이는 이끼들의 속삭임에 귀를 기울이고 있다.
“우리가 숲의 주인이야. 우리는 버려진 모든 것들을 품안에 안을 수 있어. 우리 품에 안기렴. 우리와 함께 숲의 주인이 되면 그 누구도 다시는 너를 버릴 수 없단다”
아이의 눈빛은 생기를 잃어간다. 핏기가 없는 푸르스름한 입술이 벌어지며 목소리가 세어 나온다.
“정말.. 날.. 안아줄꺼야?’
사방에서 소곤대는 소리들이 들리다 다시 목소리가 들려온다.
“응, 안아줄게, 우리 모두가, 있는 힘을 다해, 영원히”
푸른 이끼들이 아이의 다리를 타고 올라온다. 얼굴이 창백해진 아이는 풀썩 주저 앉는다.
바로 그 때,
“아가, 왜 혼자있니?”
차분하고 따뜻한 목소리. 아이는 목소리의 주인을 올려다 보지만 얼굴에 그림자가 드리워져 볼 수가 없다.
“엄마.. 우리 엄마가 여기 있으라고 했어요”
“엄마가 어디 갔어? 언제?”
“어제 어제요, 절 꼭 안아 주고 다시 온다고 했는데, 엄마는 형을 혼자 둘 순 없으니까, 그래서…”
“형? 형이 있어?”
“제 키랑 똑같아요. 우리 형… 근데 많이 아파요”
“저기..아줌마랑 같이 갈래?”
“목소리가 같이 있어준다고 했어요”
“목소리?”
“계속, 계속 안아준다고 했어요”
“그래서, 안아 달라고 했어?”
아이가 하얀 김을 내며 마지막 숨을 내쉬듯 말을 한다.
“혼자 있고 싶지 않거든요”
하얗고 가는 손이 아이 앞에 내밀어진다.
“있잖아, 얘야 나랑 같이 가자”
가늘고 하얀 손.

Long Vent/Analysis Post of Yooa's debut and the Kpop industry in general:
I don't know if anyone cares or if anyone will read this but I just listened to YooA's solo '숲의 아이' ('Child of the forest' in English which is a better title than 'Bon Voyage' imo) and I am just disappointed.
The MV is astoundingly beautiful, as is Yooa herself, together with the concept of her as different, magical forest creatures; it gives me major Princess Mononoke vibes.
The lyrics are also well-written talking about a kind of carefree nature-based love relationship with a certain ambiguity that could be interpreted as the love interest being nature itself or an aspect of it.
Her voice is also great. She sings very clearly and piercingly almost, but with a certain amount of individual colour and nearly raspiness, which is just very unique and makes listening to her never boring.
Dancing was always her forte, and this time the performance combines some aspects of a regular girlgroup dance with contemporary elements and an overall musical/dance-theatreesque stage show incorporating various nature elements that are being portraied by the background dancers. Also the dance itself is very flowing and not really hard-hitting (except for two shoulder pops in the outro ?!) which resembles flowing water or blowing wind quite well, making it an, especially for Kpop, an exceptional performance.
But then there's the composition which just ruins the whole song for me. The verses are nothing special, with a very predictable melody line. There are also only two verses, that are almost completely the same with only one varying phrasing in Yooa's singing and the as far as I can tell exactly the same instrumental in both; the pre-chorus is even more predictable. And then the chorus (and the outro): It combines the flutes from every bad, boring 2000s nature song and Shakiraesque (so it seemed to me) African-chants?!?! Also the drums seem very reminiscent of the same kind of Shakira song I'm referring to with the chants. In my opinion this makes the song seem wholely like a dated, Western pop song except for Yooa's singing. Furthermore there also is a clash of styles between the tribal(?) chanting and drumming throughout which would normally in modern pop music put the MV in a savannah of some sort, and the flute and singing which represent the real concept of forest.
All in all I was really looking forward to this solo debut. So I am even more disappointed that the song is nothing like I hoped for and imo also objectively badly/lazily composed. OMG fans will probably support it no matter what, or even force themselves into liking it which is nothing new in Kpop fandom. Also because it is so Western, so standarp pop-like and not really Kpopish it will probably gain considerable international tracktion leading to more Kpop songs being composed like this being another inevitable step to companies eventually giving up being different all together and just making boring Western-American pop music.
Maybe I am wrong and my music taste is just weird. Maybe I am wrong and interpreted the instrumental completely false. Maybe I am wrong and Kpop fans will eventually stop supporting everything their favourite bands put out without reflecting on its quality. Maybe I am wrong and Kpop will eventually turn back to its roots and not become completely Western. Maybe I am wrong and Korean music companies will for some reason stop just combining popular musical elements from overseas to make money and give their artists more freedom/hire more diverse producers and writers.
Hopefully I am wrong at least in one of these aspects.
TL;DR: Yooa's new solo song 'Bon Voyage' is badly composed and a reflection of the capitalistic Westernization/Globalization of today's Korean music industry.
