bad: william has no voice acting in the 3rd game because there were no VAs aside from sc.ott at the time and also it wasn't supposed to be immediately obvious that he was Some Guy In A Suit
better: william has no voice acting in the 3rd game because it's scarier seeing something so inhuman act weirdly human without a word
best: william has no voice acting in the 3rd game because he quite literally hasn't spoken in like 30 years and it takes far more effort to speak now that he's a rotting corpse, so instead he quite literally roams the halls mechanically groaning, only eventually finally saying the first thing he can get out: his son's name

Researching Games You Can't Access
I don't care if people don't actual want this or not, but I felt like putting down some sources so that people can experience or learn from games they do not own. I'm going to assume that you can't access games for whatever reason and you aren't just going to emulate it (no judgment either way from me).
Zelda Wiki
Bookmark this link right now! This my go-to when I need to brush up on some info, like who has what items, which enemies come from which era... spelling monster names because I never get lizalfos right on my first try ... I go here first! Go to the link provided because that wiki is not affiliated with Fandom, which makes easier to read because you'll have more article than ad. If you click on any of the titles in the main page, it brings you to the article about the game which gives you a pretty good synopsis and introduction to the characters.
I also like to go here for the galleries for character art.
I say click around and have fun!
Youtube
If pictures aren't covering it and I need more information or a better idea of the landscape that the pictures are giving me, I go to Youtube and find a playthrough. You can watch somebody play the entire game, 100%, and if you desire, with absolutely no commentary from the uploader.
I needed to brush up on Faron Woods from Twilight Princess so I typed in 'twilight princess faron woods walkthrough' and looked through a few videos to find exactly what I needed. I even took some screenshots for the minimap to use for myself later. I haven't gotten everything I needed from Youtube just yet but I'm pretty happy with what I got so far.

Zelda Dungeon
I think I'm kind of attached to this because I used it when I was young, but Zelda Dungeon has pretty good walkthroughs that can also provide more maps and pictures.

On one of your posts there was a mention of a semi-canon sinstagram post (I think) of Vox having an Alastor body pillow. Could you enlighten or share more info on this? Like was this said in an interview or was it just an art? I’m drying to know the context because it’s so funny but I’m not sure where to start looking either 🥺🥺
hi so um. a few things
I'm not a pre-series hazbin fan, I only properly got into hazbin around episode 5-6 in the actual series and had only watched episode 4 prior to that (out of curiosity due to twitter discourse)
from what I've heard voxtagram is completely non-official/non-canon, the writers on the show were NOT involved in it directly
Tumblr media
regardless, I searched through all the relevant voxtagram photos I could find on the wiki gallery and can't find anything related to that, even in the archived captions and replies from characters
I was not the one to mention anything about it being on voxtagram, I believe it was someone in my reblogs who did
the ONLY place I can find info on the body pillow is the hazbin FANON wiki
Tumblr media
so I wouldn't call it canon in any way. but it's a funny crack thing to think about LMAO, just like the alastor shrine. and I still think there is canon basis for one-sided radiostatic regardless (you know like. THE STAYED GONE BI FLAG CRASH SCREEN...) so this is a very minor thing. and the body pillow has also never been anything serious to me, it's about as crack my entire lucifer commission saga
I enjoy indulging in some of these silly ideas, but the last thing I want is for misinfo to be spread. now if anyone has any actual proper source to tell me the alastor body pillow is even a little canon, feel free to. but from what I've searched, I can't find anything that proves that.

Love how the Kaisagi wiki page has 49 photos in its gallery 😭it’s the one that has the most out of the blue lock ship wiki
Tumblr media
Someone made it their mission to add almost every panel that both Isagi and Kaiser are in

Sometimes when I’m looking for a certain pic of Kaiser and I’m too lazy to actually go through the chapters for it I just go to the kiis wiki and hope for the best ( it worked before)

You have a knack for designing fan characters that fit super well with the rest of the cast! How do you so this? Very cool
Thank you very much!!!! Here is my best shot at talking thru all my reasoning!!!
So...the term "visual language" is really especially apt for this. Understanding the logic behind the character design in something feels a lot like getting to know a language.
Earlier on, I think my process included a lot more rewatching/rereading the source material for visual reference and scowering wiki galleries. I always especially pay attention to background characters because they will sometimes have more variety-- this broadens my "vocabulary" in the show or comic's visual language, and I can express more varied things in more natural-feeling ways.
Nowadays I tend to approach every visual story with the intention of dissecting the art style and character design from the get-go, so I do a lot of mental cataloguing on my first go-through of anything.
I think a good way to think about it is to break the character design down into chunks. The chunks I tend to use are
what art styles and real-world fashions does the costume design draw from?
how are outstanding physical traits emphasized? What art styles does this emphasis draw from?
of the design elements I know I want for my character, are any of them NOT rendered in the original material? where could I find a reference to something similar? (In one of the styles it draws inspo from? Or could I find a similarly constructed but nonidentical thing to model it after?)
Even if you're not necessarily planning to always imitate the art style of the original, that art style will have a lot of influence over the character design choices, so understanding style will help you understand the character design.
It's like understading a word because you know its latin root, or the context it was used in. This is most difficult for me with costume design, because real-world contexts are not always considered in stuff like cartoons and comics, where no one has to think about the actual construction of the garment.
It's hardest to imitate someone's reasoning when that reasoning is just what they personally think "looks cool." These character designs are the ones that torment me the most. It also makes it more difficult to understand a character design if there is a cultural context to it that is alien to you. Sometimes this is obvious and you can just learn the cultural context, but sometimes cultural things are so ingrained that no one mentions them, and those can be hard to figure out because you don't know what to look for.
