Good stories have 3 types of characters. The characters who represent what we should strive to be. The characters who represent the people who are incapable of change. And the characters with the potential to change.

This literary device has fascinated me since I was a high school student reading "In the Heat of the Night". It was then that I realized that some characters are like "Sam Wood"; they start life off with prejudices but have the potential to change their way of thinking and become better individuals.

I have carried this with me ever since, trying to see the humanity in everyone and trying to first understand the cause of someone's actions before jumping to conclusions. 

This does not mean that I condone crimes or racism or prejudices of any sort. People should be held accountable for their actions. Period. However, I also try to uphold an optimistic view of the world and hope that with proper information and facts, those with that potential are able to change in time.

Part of why I enjoyed Fargo season 5 so much was because the characters were complex. No one was perfect. Everyone was fallable.

More specifically, we had several characters who represented the values we should strive for in ourselves: Dot, Witt, Wayne, and Indira. These characters showed us their humanity and willingness to put others before themselves.

We also had characters who represented those who cannot change: Roy and Odin are but two examples. These characters represent those whose view of the world is so twisted that they do not possess the humanity to ever change.

But we also had characters who represented those with the potential to change: Gator, Lorraine, and even Ole Munch. Each started the season set in their ways. They only had one goal in mind but through the events that happened, either to them or to someone close to them, they found it inside themselves to see their world differently; to consider the world from someone else's point of view and how their actions could affect it. In Ole Munch's case, it was the kindness and forgiveness offered by Dot that gives him his path forward. For Lorraine, it was the solidarity of being a woman, and seeing the abuse Dot suffered that allowed her a change of heart. And for Gator, it was his blindness that finally set him free of trying to be like his father.

These characterizations were intentional and, matter-of-factly, a product of excellent writing. 

In my Tumblr world, I like to dive deeper than the good vs evil we see on the surface and try to understand the characters' motivations and trajectories. It just so happened that an actor that I respect was playing one of these morally gray characters. This is why my focus on Gator was so heavy. I enjoyed trying to understand his character and appreciated the way Joe Keery was able to depict it on screen.

I have been raised to see the world from others' point of view before I make conclusions about who they are and how they act. I try to look for the humanity in everyone, even if it may not be immediately apparent.

Tumblr is also my safe space. It is a place I have turned to for 13 years to express my love of fandom and to connect with others who share this excitement. If I have ever made anyone uncomfortable on here, I apologize. It was never my intention. Politics has no place on my blog, and it never will. This is my safe space for enjoying fandom away from real life. I will not judge other Tumblr users, and I expect the same in return. After all, every single one of us is fallable in some way. We can all grow and be better, and my choices, both online and in real life, will always be made with others in mind. 

Tumblr is not a place for judgment before we get to know others. It is a place to respectfully share our love of fandoms without the fear of that judgment or of being labeled. It is a place to support one another. This is how I have, and always will, conduct myself while on this site, and I appreciate all the lovely people I have met along the way. ❤️

EVERMORE: Slayers Club

Dungeon Slayers, or more accurately known as The Slayers Club, is a club at Nevermore, deriving origins from fantasy games and adventure seeking. The club is infamous amongst students, most associating them with paranoia and viewing them as childish, but the club is anything but childish. The club practices and masters multiple fighting techniques and battle strategies. Threat of harm is very real as the obstacle courses created fight back with the uses of magic and mechanics.

The club currently holds 15 members, 13 of which are split amongst three club categories or squads, further divided by Captains and Squires.

Captains: Leaders of squads. Report directly to the Colonel and Monarch. They are responsible for their team members and tasks appointed to the team. Captains are appointed based on skill, experience, and overall ability to lead, oversee, and command.

Squires: Subordinate members of squads. Squires are ranked by skill and seniority, of which are not mutually exclusive but seniority usually determines the level of respect earned within the squad. Every new club member starts out as a Squire, can work up the ranks, and either be appointed or voted into a higher rank.

Senior Squires: Usually the eldest of the Squires within their respective team. Always the most experienced within the team. Senior Squires are next in command following the Captain and look after their fellow teammates.

Survey and Relay

The SnR team is responsible for surveying and assessing battlefields and enemies, collecting data, and relaying information to the between teams. Those who are admitted to this squad are noted to be observant, commutative, agile, and have the ability to retain information easily.

Strategy

The Strat team is responsible for creating and proposing multiple battle strategies based on the information relayed by the SnR team. Those admitted to this squad are noted to be intelligent, attentive, detail oriented, and creative.

Strike

The Strike team, or Strikers, is responsible for leading and executing attacks. They receive the approved strategy either from the Strat team, from the Colonel, or from the Monarch themself. Strikers will always be first into battle, leading the SnRs and Strats. Those who are admitted to this squad are highly skilled in combat, the most skilled amongst all club members, and are known to be diligent, headstrong, protective, loyal. They also tend to be relatively reserved and/or hot headed.

Colonel

The Colonel is the second in command of Slayers. They are responsible for overseeing all Captains and will step into any role needed, if a role is left unfulfilled or one shall fall in battle. The Colonel is often appointed into power, chosen based on overall skill in all categories. Candidates for Colonel must prove themselves to be worthy of handling multiple tasks and must show exceptional talent and wit. The current Colonel is Dona, a Nevermore senior and older sister of Darlene.

Monarch

The Monarch, or Royal, is the head of Slayers, first in command over all. They are responsible for everyone. The Monarch will assign roles, appoint Captains and the Colonel, assess skills, oversee training, and accept new members. The Monarch has final say on all decisions made and may call on the Colonel for advice or assistance. The Monarch is voted into power by the club members and is chosen mostly based on seniority, personality, and overall influence. Though there is no maximum term sentence, the Monarch status is reevaluated at the end of every semester by the Captains and Colonel. The current Monarch has been in power for five consecutive years. fargo nissim tbakhi is a queer palestinian performance artist, a taurus, and a cool breeze.

or, for a longer version: fargo nissim tbakhi is a queer palestinian-american performance artist and writer. he is the winner of the ghassan kanafani resistance arts prize, a pushcart and best of the net nominee, and a taurus. he has received fellowships from rhizome dc, visarts, desert nights rising stars, halcyon arts kab, mosaic theater, and RAWI. his writing appears in foglifter, mizna, peach mag, apex magazine, strange horizons, the shallow ends, prolit, and select bags of nomadic grounds coffee. his performance work has been programmed at OUTsider fest, INTER-SECTION solo fest, the rachel corrie foundation’s shuruq festival, the alwun house monster’s ball, mosaic theater, and has been supported by the arizona commission on the arts.

223, 678 words, counting co-writing and co-podding works!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently Stranger Things, but I do have some Fargo s5 fic in the works. Back in the day it was a lot of Supernatural, Doctor Who, Check Please!, Schitt’s Creek, (regrettably) The Big Bang Theory, Marvel, The Mortal Instruments, and The Infernal Devices

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Familiar to Me (Supernatural), Intervention (Supernatural), felled by you (Stranger Things), Avenging Barbarian (Stranger Things), and A Truth Universally Acknowledged (Stranger Things)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! Mainly because I like the interaction (especially when readers have predictions/ world-building thoughts). I also screenshot my favorite ones for when I need motivation or a pick me up.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably Happy Springtime Cas (Supernatural) because it’s Main Character Death

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This Ken Has a Boyfriend! (Stranger Things) because it is pure crack and delight ❤️

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not so much hate, but I could always tell when someone hasn’t seen You’ve Got Mail based on how critical they are of Cas in A Truth Universally Acknowledged. Which, at that point, please discuss it with your friends and not me. I decided to follow the plot of You’ve Got Mail pretty close, and for some people it was too much that Dean lost his store like Kathleen. (And I only cried about it twice, which is a win for me).

9. Do you write smut?

yes, primarily omegaverse and kink. oh if 15 year old sweetpea could see me now skdlfjsdjf

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Gonna show my age here, but for my 100th fanfic on FF.net I wrote a SuperWhoLock fic. I’ve also written a Supernatural/Check Please! crossover, and I’m in the middle of writing a Fargo/Stranger things crossover (Gator with older Steve/Eddie, anyone?).

No, thank god!

Yes! Birthday Wish (Stranger Things) was translated by Azalea_Violetta

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I’m currently working on a co-written fic for a ST Femslash Server I’m in (not sure how much I can say publicly!). But I’ve been apart of many multi-voice podfic (podfic voiced with a whole cast instead of one person).

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Currently gripped by Steddie.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

The bio-bdsm destiel fic. I might get back to it some day, but my Stranger Things fascination gripped me about the same time I was noodling with it. Also, I’m so bad about finishing long fics 🤦‍♀️

16. What are your writing strengths?

Description, sentence fragments as poetic license

Plot v. cool scene, anxiety editing

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I’d like to apologize for 16 year old me for slapping Google Translate lines in fic. I’m sure there were many cringy translations. Otherwise, I don’t think too hard when I see them in fic.

pinkie swear (Stranger Things). It was my last fill for Stobin Month and it was so cathartic and enjoyable to write. I just love Steve and Robin’s friendship ❤️

5. do you respond to comments? why or why not? Yeah, of course! I like letting commenters know how much I appreciate the time they took to leave a comment.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I Will Always Love You, Even When it Hurts (BNHA) - the only angst with an unhappy ending I've ever written

7. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh jeeze, basically all of them have happy endings, tho many of them are unfinished;;

8. do you get hate on any fics? No, not usually.

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind? It's my bread and butter. My go to smut is fluffy smut & porn with plot. I like my smut to be a character study lol.

10. do you write crossovers? whats the craziest one you've written? Rarely. Stranger Things/Bioshock, thanks to @b1tchy3lf :3 It was originally Steph's idea, but I wanted to play around in the sandbox as well.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen? I've had at least one fic plagiarized. It sucked, but luckily the person was willing to cooperate and take the fic down when I confronted them.
