1959 Porsche 718 RSK center seat,
Chassis No. 718-028 was built in 1959 with a center-seat cockpit and delivered new to its first owner, Christian Goethals of Belgium, who raced it for one season and took first place overall at the 1959 Leopoldville Grand Prix in the Belgian Congo.
This car went on to place sixth overall and third in class at the 1960 Buenos Aires 1000km Grand Prix, followed by two overall victories at the Lance Anvers hillclimb in Belgium.
Introduced in 1957 and produced through 1962, the 718 RSK features a spaceframe chassis and Porsche’s Type 547 roller-crankshaft engine used in its predecessor, the 550 Spyder. In comparison with the flat-four, pushrod engines used in contemporary production Porsches and Volkswagens, Porsche’s Type 547/3, a 1,587 cc, DOHC flat-four, which developed about 142 hp, was a notoriously complicated and high-strung design.

Porsche 718 RSK ‘Lucybelle III’
The Porsche 718 RSK had the difficult mission of replacing the legendary Spyder Type 550. It was more modern and aerodynamic than the 550, sported a new headlight design and was powered by a four-cylinder boxer engine that delivered 162 hp. The highlight of this car is that it debuted in 1958 at the 12 Hours of Sebring, winning in its category. He did the same at Le Mans. Although his most important achievement came in 1959, winning the Targa Florio, not only in his class but in the entire race.
The 718 RSK took the racing world by storm upon its introduction in 1958, immediately winning its class at the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans. What would really cement its legacy, though, was a 1-2-3 finish at the Targa Florio in Sicily the next year. This particular example was first bought by American race car drive and Le Mans winner Ed Hugus in 1959. He would paint it in the traditional American racing colors of white and blue, name it Lucybelle III after his business partner’s wife.
