1959 Porsche 718 RSK center seat,
Chassis No. 718-028 was built in 1959 with a center-seat cockpit and delivered new to its first owner, Christian Goethals of Belgium, who raced it for one season and took first place overall at the 1959 Leopoldville Grand Prix in the Belgian Congo.
This car went on to place sixth overall and third in class at the 1960 Buenos Aires 1000km Grand Prix, followed by two overall victories at the Lance Anvers hillclimb in Belgium.
Introduced in 1957 and produced through 1962, the 718 RSK features a spaceframe chassis and Porsche’s Type 547 roller-crankshaft engine used in its predecessor, the 550 Spyder. In comparison with the flat-four, pushrod engines used in contemporary production Porsches and Volkswagens, Porsche’s Type 547/3, a 1,587 cc, DOHC flat-four, which developed about 142 hp, was a notoriously complicated and high-strung design.

Soooooo, Picard has 'engage'.  Janeway has 'do it'.  Burnham has 'let's fly'.  Pike has 'hit it'.  If you were the captain of a starship, what would be your goto phrase to get underway?
Bonus question:  what would be the name of your starship?
I would command the Sovereign Class USS Hypatia and go to warp saying 'let's roll'.

Sure I’m glad (mostly) that YA is the booming juggernaut it is today because it’s cool that 14 year olds can have stories for them. Sure. More books is always better. That’s fun— thoughts on book influencer culture and grown-ups and literature as soulless and ever-churning product aside. It’s cool to walk into any tiny neighborhood library branch and see a dedicated space for teenagers. When I was a young teenager there were a couple of small shelves in between adult audiobooks and the biographical section where you walked in and your choices were either Twilight, Eragon, or some candy-pink Sex And The City-lite dishy little book like the one that has got some reason come rushing unbidden to the forefront of my memory this morning called “Vegan Virgin Valentine” which I never wound up reading but was always compelled by through a mixture of intrigue and condescension. The YA landscape pre-Hunger Games mania was like…here’s a super scandalous book about anorexia or teen pregnancy written in verse. Or a pandering Book For Boys about combat or fart humor. Or a twilight knock-off about a girl who has sex with a ghost. So while any glimpse of the bloated realm of teen publishing makes me feel exhausted on account of the feverish adult fans who populate it it’s probably full of important stories for teenagers. But like truly Kids These Days have no idea what it’s like to have your only option be called “The Earth, My Butt, And Other Big Round Things” (real) or “Everlost: Soulfyre Book 3” (fabricated poorly for effect)

Glinda and Fiyero mirror each other.
They each say they’re prefect, and the other is perfect so they must be perfect together, when that’s simply an illusion, a facade put up by both, when in reality they’re both missing what the other one has. (would be better split up to find what they both respectively need. Like a Mike and Eleven in Stranger Things situation.)
Fiyero, i’m not the first to point out, is depressed. he needs not the love from another, he knows how to feel that and can easily, he needs to find out how to love himself.
Glinda is the opposite. She knows how to love herself, how to see herself as worthy, but she craves love from someone else, someone who can understand her. she calls out to this at the very beginning of the musical.
Fiyero doesn’t need Elphaba, and their relationship doesn’t really work or beyond the reading of easy romance. They don’t allow each other to grow, which both of them need to do to be happy, in my opinion.
Fiyero doesn’t need someone else, he needs to find himself and escape his spiral of consuming boredom and nothingness. (His purpose will be to reunite Oz, he’s the scarecrow! but that’s unimportant at the moment)
Glinda however needs Elphaba. she’s the only one who can see through her and who knows her. Elphie can love Glinda and Glinda will finally feel it.
None of their stories are done where the musical ends.
sorry this was ranty, gotta let free the feelings. Lesbians, am i right?
(Glinda and Fiyero only build upon their facades, and can never see each other, and Elphie and Fiyero pull each other back stuck in a relationship, not allowing each other to grow, where Glinda and Elphaba have “changed” each other, in the way that they both finally feel seen, and feel loved like neither has been able to feel before.) AAAH stop over analyzing and go to bed!

I just finished watching the Star Trek documentary series The Center Seat last night. It came out in 2021 but it was on The History Channel which I don't have on my TV service and so I never saw it. But it's now on Freevee and Pluto TV.
There was one interesting bit of info about the set design for the Enterprise refit. You see the figure in the radiation protection suit in the background? That's actually a child in the suit as they were using forced perspective to give the illusion of greater depth than was actually there.
There was all sorts of great info. I think the vast majority of the fandom knows that Lucille Ball was very important in getting Star Trek on the air. But I had no idea she had to put up a portion of her own money to get the 2 pilots made. Also, I figured TOS was a fairly expensive series despite the incorrect belief of those under a certain age that it was low budget. And the Center Seat gave details on how TOS was the 2nd most expensive series on TV at its time which was a significant part of the reason why NBC wanted to get rid of it.
The cast of Enterprise talked about how much they despised the series finale and how it was a really bad idea cooked up by Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. (You could say that the series finale was Enterprise's equivalent of TNG's Sub Rosa and Voyager's Threshold thanks to Braga.)
And there was a segment in the last episode about all the different actors who appeared on Trek and the challenges of dealing with the makeup and learning lines especially if you had to deliver them in Klingon. But one of the actors who played a Klingon in the DS9 episode Soldiers of the Empire was still able to sing the Klingon victory song from the episode in his interview!

I've been watching "The Center Seat: 55 years of Star Trek," and it's a wonder 6 movies with the original cast were made. The struggle was real, especially with script writing! Then there was Leonard Nimoy going back and forth on whether he wanted to come back for another one and William Shatner's big ego, and Gene Roddenberry wanting to rewrite everything all the time. Meanwhile, you never hear about Deforest Kelley causing any difficulties! ❤ He just showed up and did his job, not bothering the director for more screentime or anything. (I feel like Bones sometimes doesn't get acknowledged as one of the main characters, but he is.)

elections next week and like 16 parties of which only 2 are truly left. one of which half imploded because of infighting and racism and the other mostly cares about climate and animals but is easily swayed on social and economic fronts like cool 👍

Someone explain to me why Fredrick Vesti, a Merc junior who has shown promise, isn't even in contention for a seat. But Kimi Antonelli, who hasn't even driven a F2 car, is being groomed as the next big thing in F1? And he's in all of these headlines and articles? Y'all are setting that child up for failure with these huge expectations!

As we know, I cannot stop thinking about a Curtwen Music Man date (its gonna be a chapter in a fic I'm writing). While in canon, they couldn't have seen it together because opening night was in December of 1957, it's my fanfic so I control time, so I moved that day a couple years ahead and now it's possible.
Agent Curt Mega is a HUGE Robert Preston fan, and his bf Owen Carvour knows that. So Owen used his powers of persuasion (and a little bit of blackmail) to get Curt and him opening night tickets to Music Man

Just got home from seeing Hadestown & it was so incredible for so many reasons but what got to me the most was when Orpheus looked back there were a couple of loud, genuinely shocked gasps from the back half of the theater
