Comfort by the Campfire features Sigrun and Warden Kader sharing a quiet moment at the fireside. Haven’t played Awakenings yet, but when I do, I think Sigrun will be my favorite companion! It was so fun participating in this dwarf centered exchange for the first time as well!

Then may we invite you to plunge into the deep roads with us in the second annual Paragon of Their Kind Dragon Age Dwarf Exchange. This is an exchange, ran through AO3, that shines a spotlight on our under 5 feet tall friends. Dwarves of any kind - from Cadash, Brosca, and Aeducan to Dagna, Harding, Varric, Sandal, and others are all fair game! Any pairing or grouping can be nominated - as long as it features at least one dwarf.

Summary:

A hot summer’s day on Sundermount turns out to be sizzling in a way Merrill and Varric never expected.

Merrill was sneezing, which was unusual, especially as Varric never had her down as a hayfever sufferer. After all, he was the one who was supposed to be allergic to nature, not her. It was a hot day, sun beating directly down on them as they’d walked to the Sundermount – Merrill had spent far too long cooped up indoors with that damned mirror of hers, and Varric had been so determined to get her outside he’d even been prepared to take her out of Kirkwall, despite his dislike of greenery – and at these temperatures, Varric didn’t know what was worse: the warm chokedamp clogging Lowtown, or the thick pollen one almost choked on now they were far from city air.

They’d travelled through open country, over water, meadows, streams; the Sundermount now loomed in front of them, with Varric and Merrill approaching the mountain from another path that didn’t take them near where Clan Sabrae were still camped. (Varric thought it would do Merrill good to be in nature again, but not near the clan again.) It was a path that was unfamiliar to them both, with flora and vegetation Varric didn’t recognise.

Not that Varric expected to recognise the plants around him: nature wasn’t his thing; and Merrill, most unusually, was so quiet that if she recognised them, she didn’t say. Varric hadn’t minded: the sky was cloudless and endlessly blue, like their surroundings were endlessly green; and he figured it was good to be out in the fresh air and countryside where Merrill could see and enjoy it, rather than be in Lowtown where the haphazardly piled-high buildings in the alienage meant she couldn’t. But as they kept walking, grass so dry that it almost crunched under the soles of Varric’s boots, the smell of that strange pollen seemed to get stronger, thicker in one’s nostrils; and Merrill had just sneezed for the third time when they passed a bundle of hay.

‘Daisy,’ Varric finally said, fond, casual, trying to disguise his concern, ‘are you OK?’

Here’s how it goes:

Go to the A Paragon of Their Kind Tagset on AO3 on May 30th starting at 12am US EST. Click nominate (you’ll need to be signed into AO3).

Nominate your favorite pairings/groupings! If your pairing doesn’t autofill, enter it anyway, and the moderators will take care of it on the other side. Please use Dragon Age - All Media Types as your Fandom

When you’re done, hit submit. A moderator will review and accept/reject your pairings/groupings. After your pairings/groupings are submitted and reviewed you will not be able to edit them, but you may submit more up to 20.

What pairings are eligible?

You can nominate up to 20 different pairings. The moderators will go through the pairings to check that each contains at least one dwarf from the Dragon Age fandom. Any nomination that does not contain at least one dwarf from the Dragon Age fandom will be rejected. Nominations may consist of homosexual, heterosexual, threesomes, moresomes, or platonic requests.

For the purposes of this challenge, the Dragon Age OC Dwarf Protagonists will be considered different characters based on their gender and surname. This means that there are three options (male, female, and non-binary) for Aeducan, Brosca, and Cadash. When nominating an OC Dwarf Protagonist, please keep this in mind and specify which option you want. For example:  

Male Brosca/Female Aeducan or Non-binary Cadash/The Iron Bull instead of Brosca/Aeducan or Cadash/The Iron Bull 

Please do not nominate a custom/individual Dwarf OC Protagonist (IE: Maria Cadash/Varric Tethras). When you do your request and pick your pairings you can provide additional details, such as a preferred name or physical description, in your request. Requests are optional - the only part of your request that must be adhered to are the DNWs.

Other original characters are allowed as long as they are "general" characters. For example: "Carta Smuggler", "Merchant's Guild Member", or "Noble Hunter" would all be acceptable. If you have questions, ask the moderators.  

The pairing must have at least one dragon age dwarf character in it. This character can be from any Dragon Age media - games, books, comics, etc. Pairings can be canon, non-canon, or sheer crack. We also allow poly nominations and crossover nominations as long as they contain at least one dragon age dwarf character.  

Nominations close at 11:59pm US EST on June 6th. Moderators will be updating the nominations spreadsheet as quickly as possible when nominations come in.

My work deadlines are finally over! 🙌🏾 I’ve not been around on Tumblr much because I’ve been so busy – I pretty much got battered with deadlines for work every day for the past two or three weeks, so I’m very relieved those deadlines are over 😄 because I can finally, FINALLY start writing my Black Emporium fic! I’m so behind 😂 

Also I just want to say that the Paragon Exchange for Dragon Age dwarf fic (@a-paragon-of-their-kind) opened yesterday, and I am absolutely DELIGHTED at the two gifts I received 😄 

One was an absolutely laugh-out-loud hilarious Arishok/Varric Tethras fic called “Strange Bedfellows”, and one was a really lovely and bittersweet Bianca Davri/Varric fic (with a Dusana Helmi/Varric detour) called “Welcome To The Guild” 😄 I totally recommend them! Do give them both a read! ❤️

Summary: *Shale wishes to no longer be a golem, and so visits Skyhold to meet with this Inquisitor who can seal the sky and make the humans dance to their tune. They did not, however, anticipate the birds.

It is small, this Inquisitor.

Unsurprising. Shale has been told it is a dwarf and dwarves are the smallest of the squishy creatures, although much more solidly built than the humans or the elves. Shale could not wrap one fist around a dwarven waist like he could with some others, but Shale could easily crush the Inquisitor’s head like an overripe melon.

Perhaps, more surprising, Shale does not wish to.

There is no ambivalence to the Inquisitor’s life or death. In fact, Shale wishes to preserve it, although why they could not say. Perhaps there is an echo of something in the way it moves, red braid falling over its shoulder, gray eyes sparkling with curiosity.

“I’m sorry. Let me get this straight.” It crosses their arms over their chest. Shale almost mimics the movement. “You’re the golem that traveled with the Hero of Ferelden. You’re claiming to be a relative. And you want me to un-golem you?”

“I have heard the Inquisitor seals holes in the sky. But it is afraid of family and difficult tasks?” Shale asks.

The Inquisitor’s eyebrows climb. And yes. There’s something familiar in it. A memory Shale cannot quite form of another dwarf with the same hair, forever lost to time, long buried in the Deep Roads.

“You haven’t met the rest of our family,” it says ruefully. “You’re really a Cadash?”

“I am a golem. Perhaps once I was a Cadash. Perhaps I wish to try it again.”

It tips their head to the side and studies Shale carefully. Then it shrugs inartfully.

“If you’re sure. Come on.”

I also wrote a treat for @19thcenturyfox for the @a-paragon-of-their-kind​​ exchange because I just can’t leave a scifi AU alone when it tickles me.

Summary:

Lace Harding works aboard the Inquisition, deep down in the bowels of the ship, like all dwarves. But she dreams of navigating the stars. When Captain Cadash takes over command of the Inquisition, the first dwarf in such a position, anything seems to be possible. Especially when Cadash has such a wonderful smile.

My assignment for @a-paragon-of-their-kind​ exchange, written for @19thcenturyfox. I was aiming for exactly 1000 words and I almost made it. It became 1100 of sexy words though. Strangely enough, there’s not much dialogue in this one. 😀

“Well ladies…” He tosses the Angel of Death on the table with another smug grin. “Cards down. I’ve got… four songs. How’d you do, Cadash?” 

The Inquisitor scowls and throws her cards down, revealing two pairs of serpents and angels. Varric’s smirk simply grows. 

“Hate to rob a religious figure Cadash, but I think you owe me-” 

“Cassandra hasn’t put her cards down yet!” Cadash squawks. 

“As if Cassandra-” 

Cassandra calmly lays her cards down, revealing the full suite of knights. Varric’s words die in his throat and he goes blissfully silent for the first time in a long overdue time.
