People hating Bianca cause she's in a relationship with Varric is just another example of how this fandom treats female characters.
Before I played Dai, I always thought that people hated her so much cause she did some awful thing during the game, but they really just hate her cause she got with Varric lol. And its a relationship they both agreed to be in.
Bianca has such an amazing list of achievements and things she has done and people just reduce her to "Varric's toxic gf" and hate her for it.
Some of the inventions Bianca has made:
Tumblr media
And she also designed Varric's crossbow and is one of the people that knows the most about red lyrium.
"I hate her cause Varric deserves better and I wanted to romance him" they said as they put their clown makeup on.
It's a toxic relationship for the both of them. She's not forcing Varric to be with her. He's a grown man who's making the decision to continue their unhealthy on and off relationship, so putting all the blame on her for this is absurd. People blaming her for "stringing Varric along" as she wasn't forced into a marriage by her family.
And people getting offended over the "Feed you your eyeballs" need to get over themselves. She cares for Varric and is telling the Inky to look after him. Is it rude? Sure, but not every character has to be likeable or nice to the pc. Not everyone needs to worship the ground the pc walks on.
And while she was responsible for leaking the red lyrium to Corypheus (unwillingly), the biggest reason why the fandom dislikes her "for making Varric unhappy :( Will no one think of the poor male character?" even though she has more than once put herself at risk to help Varric.
It's just another example of a female character with her own goals and motivations who doesn't worship the pc, and cause "she made Varric sad" that makes her evil incarnate to most of the fandom.

I wonder if people grok the fact that Bianca Davri is in a forced marriage. Sometimes I wonder if people think Varric's offhanded comment about "the wedding she actually showed up for" means she left Varric standing at the altar, when it makes much more sense to assume that she didn't show up for her wedding with Bogdan because she and Varric tried to run away together, and then that failed and she ended up returning and marrying Bogdan under duress because the alternative was that she and the guy she actually loved would be on the run and in constant danger for the rest of their lives. It really puts that darker edge on the Dwarven Merchant's Guild and kalna culture to understand that for all her incredible accomplishments, Bianca is not a free woman, because family and clan and the Guild itself exercise ownership over her.
I don't mean this in a "you have to like her" kind of way, but it sure puts some context behind her actions and personality.

Have you done analysis for Maid of Space?
The Maid of Space [symbols: flower, galaxy]
The Maid class has its basis in the handmaiden or lady-in-waiting. An example would be Joan of Arc.
The Space aspect’s main themes are creation and beginnings. You can find its official description here.
A Maid of Space is among those who alter physical existence. This is the “classpect group” they belong to. Members include: the Sylph, Maid, Bard, and Prince of Space/Time. These classes are all opposites or inverses of each other that alter the Space/Time dichotomy (physical existence). A description of classpect groupings can be found here.
The Maid of Space actively assists the Space aspect. Active classes tell themselves what to do and do so for their own benefit. They are more likely to stand up for themselves, but more likely to be cruel. Sylphs and Maids aid their aspect and everything it symbolizes or use it as a form of aid. Simplified, the Maid of Space is motivated by themselves to assist creation and beginnings.
In personality, the Maid of Space feels like something is holding them back and feels satisfied by the act of making something. Personality descriptions can be found here.
Their archetype is the Escapee Mother, defined by freedom, creation, and beginnings. Archetypes are explained here.
Their opposite is the Sylph of Time, who passively assists endings and destruction.
Their inverse is the Bard of Time, who passively destroys endings and destruction.
A classpect or “god tier” is an individual’s best self. All classpects go through a journey from unrealized, to struggle, to realized. When a character is unrealized, they neutrally exist as their inverse. On their struggle, they will wildly flip back and forth between their inverse and true classpect. In their worst moments they will act as their inverse, in their best their true classpect. When realized, they will stabilize as their true classpect. They will still have room to grow, but will become happier, more successful people.
This means that the Maid of Space begins life motivated by others to destroy endings and destruction. When their struggle arrives and they are at their worst, they will continue this behavior in negative extremes. However, when at their best, they will find purpose in instead assisting creation and beginnings for themselves. When realized, they will stabilize and continue to assist the Space aspect actively, in a positive way.
They share their archetype with the Sylph of Breath, the Mother Escapee.
The Maid of Space would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Underground [Maid] and Frogs [Space Aspect]. An example would be the Land of Sapphire and Frogs. An explanation of planet naming conventions can be found here.
Two possible gods, or denizens, to reign over their planet would be Echidna (Mother of Monsters) or Demeter (Goddess of Grain). Other Space aspect denizens can be found here.
When the Maid of Space completes their planet quests and dies on their quest bed, they would rise to ascension on the wings of hummingbirds (symbols of eternity). A list of soul animals can be found here.
The characters that I have currently classpected as Maids of Space are: Porrim Maryam from Homestuck [canon example], The Dolorosa from Homestuck [canon example], Beyoncé from Ke$hastuck, Bianca Davri from Dragon Age, Danny the Street from Doom Patrol, Lady Rainicorn from Adventure Time, and Mary from Christianity.
If any of the links not connected to my blog break, the content can be found on my Google Drive.

I think the main reason I can’t bring myself to ship Varric and Bianca is that Bioware hasn’t done anything to make me want to ship them. I mean, at first, she was a vague Woman in the Fridge that we knew nothing about. We just knew that she was “the one story Varric would never tell” and that his beloved crossbow is named after her. We didn’t know what tragedy was involved, but we knew it existed.
And don’t get me wrong: Their story is tragic. I’ve gone over this already, but they genuinely wanted to be together and were literally forced apart and are stuck writing letters and having sporadic trysts that are inevitably followed by Varric being chased by assassins. That sucks a lot for them, and I’m really glad we got some realistic drama rather than some fantastically tragic death.
But when we see them in Inquisition, everything about their interactions speak of a romance that died a long time ago, leaving the two clinging to what scraps they can get instead of moving forward or moving on. There’s obviously love there, as shown in their banter throughout the “Well, Shit” questline, but it isn’t enough. There’s more pain and wistfulness than there is a baseline for an actual relationship, and it’s definitely hurting both of them.
When it’s revealed that Bianca is the one who leaked the location of the thaig, Varric immediately accuses her of treating problems in life like a machine to be fixed while Bianca claps back at him, asking if she should be “wallowing in her mistakes” and writing about what she should have done. But after the initial anger, they both are just...resigned. Bianca gives the Inquisitor a threat to keep Varric safe, then leaves. When asked if he’ll see Bianca again, Varric just says “I always do.”
Their relationship isn’t good or healthy the way it is. They either need to take the plunge and go through the messy, dangerous process of being truly together in spite of the Merchant’s Guild, or end things, properly mourn the end of what they had, and move on.

I talk a lot about the missed potential in DAI but actually the biggest missed potential is that throwaway line about ‘Bianca’ being a super common dwarf name. I know it’s implied to be just a joke but how funny would it be if BioWare committed. Imagine if we actually had like half a dozen dwarf npcs named Bianca running around

Hello! For the fandom asks: 8, 9, and 20?
8. you hope more people will come to appreciate ___ (a ship, a trope, an episode, etc)
Bianca! I wish we knew more about her, but from what we do know, she is a brilliant and curious smith. She is being considered for paragon status!!! The first ever surface-born dwarf to be considered for paragon. She takes great risks for her craft. This did not have to be. She is high-born and married into a near untouchable political alliance/dynasty. She could be a kept, safe woman in a massive estate. But instead she out here making Indiana Jones look like a layabout. Also, I am a sucker for the Varric/Bianca romance and have many a head canon about it.
9. a ship that isn't your OTP but that you enjoy
Warden/Alistair. There's so many ways that ship can go that vary based on the warden's politicsl choices and race. So many permutations! And in fanfic, each canonical permutation can then be twisted further (and has been!) And Alistair is such an interesting character. He's pretty straightforward and simple on the surface, and so digging into him in a romance is neat!
20. your very first fandom!
Sailor Moon/ Gundamn Wing when I was in middle school. THANK YOU, TOONAMI. That's when I found ff.n and the rest is nerd history.

What on Earth is up with this fandoms vehement hatred for Bianca? I've seen so many takes lately getting support for saying they think the Inquisitor should be able to *physically assault her* when she threatens them. What the hell? Yeah she makes a mistake, but her mistake is trusting Corypheus in the form of a Grey Warden and they're meant to be trustworthy figures, and you don't really know anyone who hasn't made mistakes! Making mistakes and trying to put them right is core to Dragon Age!
Because female characters aren’t allowed to be *clutches pearls* mean to the PC

i believe people are imperfect in a million little ways and i believe good works of fiction will always strive to represent something that, at the end of the day, is a big part of what makes us human and i believe it's childish to try and tone down the unpalatable traits a character might display or treat any acknowledgement of their flaws as some sort of attack *sees someone talking about bianca in a tone i do not like* but Above all i believe i should be able to steal people's ability to speak as i please. yeah like the sea witch from the little mermaid.

Bianca's threat about feeding the Inquisitor their own eyeballs could have so easily been a line coming from Hawke. Or any of the DA2 companions in a letter. And you KNOW if that were the case, not a single person in the fandom would be as up in arms about it, they'd probably find it funny. But because it's Bianca, a female NPC they don't know, the misogyny and irrationality just jumps out and they say she's a 'bitch'.
Literally! We'd be seeing blogs called "Feedyouyoureyeballs" all over the fandom, and people would be using it as an iconic quote of the series.
But no, since Bianca said it, it's apparently the worse thing ever said in all the games.
