[Part 7]

Okay so I admit I have watched a lot of Chinese dramas from last year but ended up writing about them right now. With my employment here in Makati, I don't know but I just didn't have the energy I guess to post. But now here they are!! New Chinese Dramas must watch!

Another adventure-packed drama that I surely enjoyed watching. Again, I was taken into another dimension.. lol.. But yeah, with the costumes, the acting and the set.. I didn't get bored at all. Okay so let's talk about the characters and actors who played the role---The Queen! She was like the Cleopatra of Korea and she was killing it! Very much suited for the role and she looks so pretty! But of course let's not forget the main lead.. Leo Wu was still so young here! I was stunned when I saw his latest drama--Love in The Galaxy--with Zhao Lusi. I was like--is that really him now?? And I figured that this was a 2018 drama so of course.. he grew up! This drama gave me a Dulou Continent vibes with all the level up thing in terms of their abilities/powers and the adventure they embarked with as they reach for their goal. And oh I almost forgot.. Xiao Xhan has a participation here!!

THIS IS A CLIFFHANGING SEASON-LACKING Drama tho. I mean the ending of the first season was super cliffhanging that an urgent 2nd season is much needed.. but they did not provided!! Ughhh.. I still can't get over the ending of the first season because the male lead was resurrected after being fooled/betrayed by her lover-supposed-to-be and his clan in a state of chaos. He needed to reclaim his and his clan's glory. But to no avail.. because we don't have a 2nd Season! This is my 3rd Scarlet Heart themed drama.. you know, cliffhanger! ;(

Wuxia to the max! This girl really takes over wuxia and she's not playing around. First watched her from her own drama The Legend of Fei with my babe Wang Yibo. Now, tho this is an old drama, I was amazed on how she really fits being a martial artist (who is noncholant and kinda boring actually in terms of personality). But slay girl! And the love story here is also to watch out for (but don't expect much). Tho don't ask about the ending of this drama coz you'll only be disappointed.... CLIFFHANGER ALERT!! I mean hello, this is a 2017 drama and what year is it now? 2022?? Really now??? #ScarletHeartOnceAgain My heart is really aching especially of the ending where her real powers was just awoken and she was about to take revenge. Imagine us watchers' frustrations. Strike 2 for cliffhanger dramas. Much to my frustration.

This is a cute drama. Dont know if it's because of the female lead but she's really cute haha. And Dylan Wang, his character as a mean and cold person suddenly changed when he fell inlove. The conflicts here isn't that heaft-breaking so yes, that explains my rating. It was good but it wasn't unforgettable. Really love Dylan Wang here tho. I really love how men in xianxia would sacrifice their high ranks and power, not to mention their own kingdom, for the sake of their loved one. How I wish to be.. a Chinese actress. Haha! I am not kidding!!

Yes, another Xu Kai drama!! But he's not in a costume drama this time again. He's a---wait, let me first share my initial thoughts while watching the first few episodes. So this is about a fake marriage contract deal between the two leads. Yeah typical story, yadahyadah, but don't underestimate Xu Kai's power!

'She's the man!' The leading lady is a lady boss which I really love about this. She's from Eternal Love btw so I already know her. She's so sophisticated here and my gahd, her chemistry with her *ehem* husband was soooo.. nakakainggit. Their kissing scenes OMG! I mean it's Xu Kai of course the kissing scenes are intense. Haha! Okay, speaking of.. to the husband now. At first I was confused. I mean hello, this is Xu Kai baby, how can he have a role with this kind of life? I mean he's not successful or anything. He's still living with his parents and just doing work at home. But hey, don't judge the character by what you see.. he's a genius stock analyst and he can make money just by staying at home and doing stocks. It's a happy ending tho, he got a real job (thru a billionaire, no big deal) and I got to see the sexy Xu Kai in tuxedo anyways. Haha! If you want a romantic drama, definitely watch this. Now I'm patiently waiting for his costume dramas. I mean he have like just three upcoming---no big deal. No it is!!!

Show notes for Episode 121: Mark Mulcaster of Fantha Tracks

In addition to being on some of the Fantha Tracks Podcasts, Mark Mulcaster wears a few other hats, including his duties as Commander of the UK Rebel Legion’s Elstree Base as well as being in the 501st UK Garrison and the UK Vok Chi clan of the Mando Mercs. He’s also an avid Bass player who may or may not show up at a gig with a Star Wars T-shirt. Mark was incredibly generous to give up some of his time and give a great overview of how these cosplay groups among other things, work with folks to get their outfits in shape, his collection and his role on Making Tracks, co-hosting with friend of the show Mark Newbold who has been on the show a few times and I think snuck him into the Celebration one here a few months back.

‘Mark has been a fan of the saga since the early 1990s after rediscovering the original trilogy on VHS and dived right into the first Grand Admiral Thrawn Trilogy, he has been an avid Star Wars reader ever since. He’s been a member of the Star Wars costuming community since 2007 when he joined the Rebel Legion’s Elstree Base, the Base he now runs as Base Commanding Officer as well as also being a member of both the 501st UK Garrison and the Mandalorian Mercs Vok Chi clan here in the UK.’

Summer 2022 Streaming Watch List

It’s summertime and the perfect time of year to go on vacation or to just get out and about to the beach or the pool. But on those days when it’s just too hot outside, or for the nights you want to stay in, kick back with your favorite streaming service and enjoy some great shows.

For the month of July 2022, I am providing a list of a few older shows, and some newly returned shows to indulge in and binge-watch this month.

Here’s What to Watch This Summer

Stranger Things

When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying supernatural forces in order to get him back. - IMDB

Season 4 of Stranger Things just premiered this summer on Netflix. It’s dark, it’s nostalgic, and it’s fun. Watch all seasons 4 now and get caught up on the upside down.

Westworld

At the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, waits a world in which every human appetite can be indulged without consequence. - IMDB

Westworld is a little bit of everything. It’s a mix of sci-fi, action, and mystery all packed into this beautifully shot show. New episodes of season 4 of Westworld are currently airing on HBO on Sunday nights. You can catch up on all prior seasons on HBO Max.

Anatomy of a Scandal

A sexual consent scandal amongst British privileged elite and the women caught up in its wake. - IMDB

This is a great limited series, that has a nice twist at the end. It’s the perfect binge show for a lazy Saturday, and it will leave thinking about people and perceptions. Available now on Netflix.

The Staircase

Tells the story of Michael Peterson, a crime novelist accused of killing his wife Kathleen after she is found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their home, and the 16-year judicial battle that followed. - IMDB

I originally learned of this story a few years after watching the Netflix documentary. This current production is a HBO limited series, with an all star cast. Very interesting, true crime story that leaves you asking yourself if you believe in coincidence.

The Gilded Age

A wide-eyed young scion of a conservative family embarks on a mission to infiltrate the wealthy neighboring clan dominated by ruthless railroad tycoon George Russell, his rakish son, Larry, and his ambitious wife, Bertha. - IMDB

I absolutely loved The Gilded Age and cannot wait to see where the story ultimately goes. If you love period pieces, costumes, and great drama, you will love this show. Season 1 is currently available on HBO Max.

Slow Horse

Follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve as a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes. -IMDB

Slow Horse is for the viewer who loves a spy drama. The cast is great, and the story is intriguing. Reminds me of the first Mission Impossible. I recommend it. Watch now on Apple TV.

Persuasion

Eight years after Anne Elliot was persuaded not to marry a dashing man of humble origins, they meet again. Will she seize her second chance at true love? -IMDB

Persuasion premieres on Netflix on July 15th. This is for the Jane Austen lovers, who love the yearn and burn romances.

The Boys

A group of vigilantes set out to take down corrupt superheroes who abuse their superpowers. - IMDB

The Boys is violent, vulgar, offensive, and deliciously fun and entertaining to watch. It is not for everyone, but these superheroes give a different take on how a world full of people with superpowers might be. Season 4 just premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Watch all 4 seasons now on Amazon.

Shining Girls

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate downloadable content character Kazuya Mishima from the Tekken series will launch on June 29 for $5.99, or as part of the “Fighters Pass Vol. 2.” for $29.99, Nintendo announced.

Director Masahiro Sakurai also confirmed that the next downloadable character following Kazuya Mishima will be the last.

“Now that I think about it, it’s been close to 10 years since Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems was in development,” Sakurai said. “I’ve been working on this for a long time. You could call it my life’s work. But finally, the next downloadable content fighter will be the last one. There won’t be any more after that. It’ll be a while before that announcement, but it’ll be available this year as planned.”

Kazuya Mishima

On June 29, the vengeful Kazuya Mishima from the Tekken fighting game series joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game for the Nintendo Switch system as part of the “Challenger Pack 10” downloadable content, which also includes a new stage and a selection of music tracks from the decades-spanning Tekken franchise. In a video hosted by Masahiro Sakurai, the Super Smash Bros. series director provided a deep dive into the new fighter’s move set, as well as a detailed look at the new Mishima Dojo stage.

Challenger Pack 10 is part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate “Fighters Pass Vol. 2,” which can be purchased for $29.99 and also includes Min Min from the ARMS game, Steve & Alex from Minecraft, Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy series, Pyra / Mythra from the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game, and one yet-to-be-announced fighter that will release later this year. “Challenger Pack 10” can also be purchased separately for $5.99.

Debuting more than 25 years ago in the original Tekken game, Kazuya Mishima is one of the most recognizable faces in the storied fighting game series. Kazuya moves from the arenas of Tekken, where players must understand the space between characters and focus on where to hit their opponents in a 3D plane, to the battlefields of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where players must attack their foes through 2D heights and distances. Because of this change in gameplay dimensions, Kazuya shows off a special skill set in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when compared to his Tekken roots.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kazuya’s main attacks are similar to his fighting moves in Tekken, but to give him the midair jumps, smash attacks and special moves that the Super Smash Bros. series is known for, his Devil’s Power is put to use. In later games in the Tekken series, Kazuya can transform into a powerful winged demon. Players will notice Kazuya activating this Devil’s Power for various jumps, smash attacks and special moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The new stage that players will receive in “Challenger Pack 10,” “Mishima Dojo,” is the dojo of the Mishima family—specifically Kazuya’s father Heihachi. The dojo is closed off in all directions, but its walls and ceiling can be broken with strong attacks, turning the stage into dangerous terrain. With no floating platforms, the Mishima Dojo stage is more grounded than many other stages in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, requiring new strategies when battling on it.

After downloading “Challenger Pack 10,” players will also receive 39 music tracks from the Tekken series, containing a mix of songs from earlier and more recent games in the franchise.

New Mii Fighter Costumes

Additionally, launching alongside Kazuya Mishima are new paid Mii Fighter costumes, including Shantae (Shantae), Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia), Dante (Devil May Cry), and Dragonborn (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim).

Min Min amiibo

For those looking to arm themselves with even more Super Smash Bros. fun, a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo is on its way! Min Min, the fighting noodle girl from ARMS, will be available for purchase at select retailers in 2022.

One is tempted to compare Republicans’ indifference to their constituents’ health to a slaughterhouse worker leading cows to the abattoir—but it turns out some Republicans actually prioritize our bovine brethren over the proto-Soylent Green biscuits who make up their beloved base. (For those unfamiliar, Soylent Green is a 1973 dystopian sci-fi thriller in which ex-NRA spokes-statue Charlton Heston is conspicuously out-acted by a pallet of mealy green wafers.)

In a misguided attempt to make the widespread distribution of freedom phlegm the linchpin of the ‘merican ethos, Republican elected officials from sea to pestilent sea are doing all they can to stifle progress in our fight against COVID-19.

Take Tennessee, for example. With just 48.7% of its adult residents fully vaccinated, the state has one of the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the nation. And Tennessee officials are doing their level best to keep it that way. For instance, following criticism from state Republican legislators, last month the Tennessee Department of Health decided to halt youth outreach for all vaccinations, not just for COVID-19 shots.

So you probably just read that and thought, “Man, how could they possibly be more ridiculous?” And then Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee bolted upright and said, “Hold my steer.”

You see, Lee is refusing to offer incentives such as cash payments to encourage people to save their own lives, but his tune changes considerably when it comes to his sacred cows:

Tennessee's Herd Health program began in 2019 under Lee, whose family business, Triple L Ranch, breeds Polled Hereford cattle. The state currently reimburses participating farmers up to $1,500 for vaccinating their herds, handing out $492,561 over the past two fiscal years, according to documents from the Tennessee Agriculture Department.

Lee, who so far has avoided drawing a serious Republican primary challenge in his 2022 reelection bid, has been accused of complacency in the face of the deadly pandemic. Tennessee's vaccination rates for Covid-19 hover at 39 percent of its total population, versus over 49 percent nationally for the fully vaccinated. The state's Covid hospitalizations have more than tripled over the past three weeks and infections have increased more than five-fold.

So if you’re a Tennessee resident and want to get paid for doing the right thing (granted, you should do the right thing anyway, but some people apparently need a nudge), you may have to try something like this …

In a statement, Lee spokesperson Casey Black also tried to explain away the apparent contradiction: “Tennesseans have every incentive to get the Covid-19 vaccine—it’s free and available in every corner of the state with virtually no wait. While a veterinarian can weigh in on safely raising cattle for consumption, the state will continue to provide human Tennesseans with Covid-19 vaccine information and access.”

Okay, no one was saying that cows are humans’ equal when it comes to responsibly choosing an appropriate health regimen for themselves—though, granted, reading through some of my anti-vaxxer family members’ DMs might give you that impression.

“Information and access” is obviously not enough when there’s so much disinformation coursing through our body politic’s veins. Indeed, the best thing that could happen for our reeling country right now would be if Tucker Carlson finally choked to death on his own vomit in a Spirit Halloween My Little Pony costume. (Come on, you know that’s coming.) But barring that, we need to do everything in our power, short of outright coercion, to get shots in arms.

Unfortunately, not only is Tennessee not doing that, they’re frantically pulling in the opposite direction.

More recently, Lee's administration has been under fire after the state's vaccination chief was terminated in what she has called an attempt to appease GOP legislators who were outraged over Covid-19 vaccination outreach to minors. At a hearing in June, one Republican lawmaker called an ad promoting vaccination for teenagers “reprehensible” and some went so far as to suggest they might pull the Health Department's funding.

Hey, great idea! In the middle of the biggest public health crisis in 100 years, let’s take a big steaming dookie on the one proven tool that can actually get us out of this mess.

I’m tempted to say people like Lee are cutting off their nose to spite their face, but it’s actually much worse than that. They’re killing their own people (or at the very least allowing them to die) for no clear reason whatsoever.

But, hey, as long as his cows are fine then all is right with the world, eh?
