So, Felicia Hardy mentions having a girlfriend in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and this has resulted in a lot of discussion... I wanna talk about it!

One thing I find really interesting about the conversation is that so many articles discussing it credit Felicia's bisexuality to this moment from 2021, where she and Odessa Drake have an on-panel kiss followed by an off-panel one-night-stand.

While this is pretty friggin' gay and good for them, I feel like reducing the story to "Black Cat kissed a girl in 2021 and that's why she has a girlfriend in the video game" is missing a lot of the larger context... so let's discuss some of the history of Felicia Hardy, AKA the chaotic crime bisexual Black Cat.

Felicia Hardy debuted in 1979. Tamara Blake, her "oldest friend" and female lover, first appeared in 1984, only 5 years later, debuting in the Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual "Cat and Mouse."

Dropping by for a night of "harmless frolic," Tamara robs Felicia, aiming to play a game of cat-and-mouse with her friend. While their relationship is not explicitly romantic in this story, Tamara is portrayed as very close to her ex-partner-in-crime and very familiar with her relationship habits. She is surprised by the reveal that Black Cat is trying to settle down with Spider-Man - and to be skeptical about if Felicia will be able to tie herself down to one man... almost as if she knows Felicia has a pattern of behaviour when it comes to monogamy.

I don't know if this story was intentionally gay or not, but it would be used as a foundation for later queer storytelling about Felicia, so it seems worth mentioning it here!

What is pretty explicit, however, is Felicia's relationship with her partner Diana in the 2002 Spider-Girl series. They are just called partners, not lovers, but the framing and discussion of it is obvious enough that, in my opinion, if you know that gay people exist and can accept the possibility of them being gay, then you probably will read this and go "Oh, yeah, they are gay."

This story does not take place in Earth-616 and is primarily focused on Mayday Parker as Spider-Girl and Felicity Hardy as Scarlet Spider, but Felicity does have two moms - and we love that for her!

Jumping ahead a bit, Tamara returned via flashback in Black Cat #10, released in 2020, and this fleshed out their backstory together. It revealed how they trained together under Black Fox as their mentor and clearly shows them using slight-of-hand to hold hands and canoodle without Fox noticing what they're up to.

This is just a super-cute panel to me. That's such a clever use of slight-of-hand; I love it so much...

The next year, in Black Cat Vol 2 #3, there's a vision of Black Cat surrounded by a harem of her lovers, which includes Tamara and Odessa alongside several of her more famous male affairs.

Shortly thereafter, she kissed Odessa on the lips, as discussed earlier. In case the earlier evidence was not enough for you, Felicia Hardy is now formally unquestionably a girl-kisser. We even later get to see her and Drake's one-night-stand via flashback, in case there was any lingering doubts about what happened.

However, it also doesn't end there. It's not like Felicia just kissed a women, Marvel patted themselves on the back, and now she's been back to dating Peter Parker exclusively. There are plenty of comic characters who have had one defining "queer moment" and mum's been the word on their queerness since then... Felicia, meanwhile, is very loudly bisexual.

Immediately, she got a Pride variant cover in 2021 and has been on at least one cover every year since. My favourite is probably this one from 2022, which is both very poly and also features Peter Parker... I'm sure if you'd ask Marvel corporate they'd say he is just there as an ally, but it's still funny to me.

In 2021, she was the character used for the grand return of Jessie Drake (Felicia really has a thing for women with last names that end with -ake, apparently). Jessie was Marvel's first explicitly transgender character, debuting all the way back in 1992. After getting off to a rocky start, Felicia blows up a building with Jessie's help and they go out for dinner.

(This story was not followed up on as the book it was supposed to lead into got cancelled. Drake has not so much as cameoed since. F in the chat for Jessie Drake).

In 2022, there was an 5-issue mini-series all about Tony Stark and Felicia bonding over their mutual problem of supervillain ex-girlfriends trying to murder them. Of the two halves of the pair, Felicia gets the better deal - Tamara not only teams up with Felicia and Tony to fight Tony's ex, but they do so much flirting that Tony forgets that are not currently dating.

And, finally, in 2023, there was another Felicia story in a Pride issue wherein she hooked up with a pseudo-diety and also worked with Gambit to fuck with some transphobes in the process. Good for them!

This is not by any means a definitive list of everything gay Felicia has done - she famously flirts with MJ and Cindy a lot, for instance - but I hope it provides some larger context to Felicia's sexuality in the game.

Moreover, I hope it shows that queer storytelling isn't always about writing a single gay kiss that generates headlines. A lot of Marvel and DC queer storytelling that goes viral isn't the actual multi-issue multi-comic-run queer stuff; it's the one big kiss or something subtextual that happens to feature MCU heroes with better SEO then people like Felicia have... and I think it's the more under-the-radar stuff that's often more valuable.

We might not know enough about guns to regulate them properly.

Some folks on the Left probably need to learn more about guns.

I've seen so many people pronounce loudly that banning the AR-15 is the single greatest thing we could do to stop mass shootings.

But I'm afraid it is much more complicated than that.

During the first assault weapons ban in the 90s, legislators had trouble defining the weapons they wanted to ban so they included details like no bayonet lugs or foldable stocks or pistol grips. I guess they were trying to find aspects that a lot of these weapons had in common in order to identify which guns to ban. But soon after, gun manufacturers just left these elements out of their designs and made essentially the same guns.

Despite some dubious statistics I've seen on Twitter about this 90s ban being amazingly effective, most experts found that the ban had little to no effect on firearm deaths or the lethality of gun crimes. People just used different guns that weren't banned.

Beyond that, the AR-15 is one model of gun from one manufacturer. There are tons of copycat designs from other brands. There are kits you can build yourself. You can even 3D print all of the non-metallic parts. Not to mention there are plenty of assault weapons that have similar characteristics. The AK-47 uses even more powerful ammunition.

And then there is this "ranch rifle."

It doesn't look like a scary Rambo gun, but it shoots the same bullets as the AR-15 and has large capacity magazines. It is functionally the same.

Would this be included in the ban? Or would our legislators think it is just a harmless varmint rifle used for shooting pests on the farm as the marketing suggests?

There is also the fact that most shootings take place at short distances where even small caliber handguns would be plenty lethal and effective for a mass shooting. Bigger rifles send the rounds out quicker and can penetrate better at longer distances, so the casualty count might be a little higher versus a handgun. But at the most common distances, I don't know if it would be a huge difference. Las Vegas might have been less deadly due to the shooter firing from a longer distance, but he could have also used much higher caliber hunting rifles, though with a slower rate of fire. If 20 people die instead of 60, that is certainly an improvement, but probably not the result people are hoping for with these bans.

I guess what I'm trying to say is there are so many options when it comes to firearms that I just don't know if gun bans are going to be the solution to this issue. I think focusing resources on identifying dangerous people and preventing them from getting weapons in the first place might be a better place to start. Mandatory training, gun licenses, liability insurance, and expensive background checks could all be used as barriers for a dangerous person to acquire a gun. We could also flag large ammo purchases.

Getting rid of one style of gun when there are hundreds of other flavors of gun that can do a similar amount of damage doesn't seem like it will do much in the grand scheme. Creating hoops for bad people to jump through so that hopefully they get snagged in one of them might work better.

If we were to do gun bans, I think it should be more like... every household is allowed one revolver for self defense and all other firearms must be secured at a gun club or shooting range.

But that feels like a pipe dream in this country.

The sad truth is the toothpaste may be out of the tube. We literally have more guns than people right now. How would we logistically confiscate millions of guns? Especially from people who might use those guns to try and prevent said confiscation.

Honestly, I'm not sure we can actually solve this problem. At best maybe we can make it slightly less bad.

Celia really wanted to see Freddie. It's why she applied to Auradon. That's canon but hearing about it from the Anti-Hero club kids who'd heard from Freddie made it all sound so exciting.

Celia was hoping they could sing together. Freddie's always been a better singer but she wanted to sing with her anyway.

So, uh, Mal was given a VERY short deadline to figure out how to get Celia off the Isle after she went back or she was gonna deal with SEVERAL unpleasant fates "Friends from the other side" style. Freddie was NOT happy Celia went back with the barrier closing forever.

Celia likes Jane. She's a little mild for Celia, but she's brave when it counts.

Celia likes Ben a lot. She's still a little young to put together how messed up everything was. And he's done more to help than anyone else, even if it sometimes took his sweet time doing it.

Audrey kinda scares her at first but I think she quickly realizes that regular Audrey is pretty harmless. She's almost disappointed - she liked when Audrey was scary. XD

She likes Doug fine but she wishes she could stay with Freddie instead of him and Evie. Not even Dizzy being around is as good as seeing her sister.

She's enjoying telling fortunes in Auradon - they pay WAY more and they're never getting their money back!

Some of the AKs in her class are shy but she actually does manage to make some friends there. She's outgoing and silly - it's not too hard to make friends, even if they have to catch her up on pop culture.

She gets to hang out with some of the AKs who've left already (Lonnie, Ally, Jordan) because she hangs around her sister a lot. She missed Freddie sue her.

Mmmmmm headcanon

Pitch Black is the least violent of all the rotg characters.

Heeeaaar me out.

Okay so. Let's review Pitch's actions in the movie.

He scares North a little to distract the guardians, something that only involved sand theatrics. He stole the teeth and kidnapped the baby fairies. He had the guardians fight the nightmares and took out Sandy. He had the nightmares crush all the eggs. He distracted Jack and gave him the memory box so the guardians would assume the worst. He aked Jack to join him and, apon refusal, broke Jack's staff and threw him into a pit. He intimidated the guardians and Jamie. Physically fought the guardians and lost. Escaped dramatically. (Diff headcanon)

Okay so let's break it down. His first action is pure theatrics. Him intemidating Jamie and the guardians is also pure theatrics (if he actually wanted to attack them he woulda just,,, attacked them. Not spent the time doing spooky shadow things and slowly advancing with his intimidating but ultimately kinda harmless nightmares (diff headcanon))

Alright, so lets talk about the tooth palace scene. He kidnaps the fairies. Kidnaps. He does not harm them, he keeps them in actually pretty big cages with little perches. He obviously doesn't want them in his lair, but needs them there for the plot. The fact that he's keeping them and not harming them or putting them somewhere hidden where he doesn't have to desl with them, implies plan to release. Implies he intended to let them out, presumably after he'd well and truely won. That or he just didn't think his plan through which he does do sometimes. But even then, he goes to trapping, not harming.

During that scene, he also puts on theatrics. The moment the guardians turn to violence (Bunny throwing the boomerang) Pitch fucking dips. He does not engage.

So, fighting the nightmares. I have an entire headcanon abt the nightmares but gist is: they're kinda harmless. They break if they run into something too hard or if someone runs into them too hard. They never actually hurt the guardians, only scare and distract.

So! We get to Pitch's first actual act of violence. Shooting Sandy. Now, hear me out, the guardians imply they've delt with Pitch before, that this isn't new. Pitch had fought them before and I imagine his technique wouldn't be much different. He'd have turned to cunning and not violence. With Sandy though, there's nothing he can do, and I'm sure the tenacious bastard has tried. Sandy is op, the only one who can destroy his nightmare sand, and there's no way to trap or depower him. So yes, Pitch can be violent, even murderous. But do note how it is a last resort given no other option.

So, his interactions with Jack. He gives Jack multiple chances to stay out of the game. His first actions against Jack are to try to make Jack realize the guardians are assholes. He offers for Jack to join him. He engages in a fight with Jack in antartica after Jack shoots first and even then, only goes on long enough for Jack to cool down and stop shooting.

Once Jack has shown he won't join Pitch, Pitch turns to, once again, trapping. Leaving the staff whole or leaving Jack out of the pit runs risk of Jack finding a way out of things. Breaking it and trapping Jack completely takes him out of the game, and all it takes is one hit.

He also crushed the eggs which, depowers Bunny, I don't think I need to explain that part.

So we get to his second act of violence: fighting the guardians during the last battle. You know, the one where he was losing and they were coming at him weapons blazing.

Pitch can be violent. He can do awful things, but when given choice, he will pick a nonviolent solution over a violent one. Violence is reserved as a last resort for him. The other guardians show a shoot first ask questions later mentality. Even Jack.

Pitch is the least violent.

ok so I'm going to combine some of these to not spam you 😭

Nadya and Jon would not work. She's genuinely terrified of him, especially if he looks like in AK. There was an "incident" where she inhaled some of his fear toxin on accident and that was the worst experience she ever had. She admires his intellect and... creativity but wouldn't want to spend time with him alone. Also, she needs someone to joke with (but yk harmless jokes and not ones that kill you lol)

SO, this one kinda took me out when I saw it lmao. Don't think she's that much of a fan of fire. The only thing they'd have in common are their scars/injuries I guess? While she does want to see Bats go down, she doesn't want him to go down in flames, the same goes for Gotham.

This one is actually quite interesting if they met (and fell in love) before he became Two-Face. Watching his descent into madness, basically abandoning his former persona and letting his new one take over and omg this lowkey reminds me of her dad in a way... You know what, I don't think this would work well at all sdjkdfkhsdjf Ok it's not exactly that similar but she certainly could somehow connect the dots.

and so, I'm about to do what I do best: complain 😭

Obviously, this is a general issue, and has been worsened horribly since the emerging of tiktok... but have you seen the amount of eras attendees who have filmed or photographed complete strangers to them, then posted these recordings/ photos online, without whoever's consent, and without recognising that this is wrong?

I mean yes its generally for harmless reasons, perhaps the person is wearing cool outfit, or you were moved by their reaction to a song, or you want to find them through social media... etc. and I understand its a concert and when taking videos of taylor or certain visuals or even the general crowd with their light up bracelets, random people are bound get caught in it but when you specifically focus on someone, who you don't know and post whatever, that's where the issue starts!! And I've seen people do this to literal kids, not their own kids but just a kid in their row and...

idk what do you think? I just think its a little worrying that so many don't realise that you shouldn't take pictures focusing on a random person and post it without their consent

Tbh it akes me soooo anxious the idea of going to a concert and having some random person recording or taking pictures of me for whatever reason. You know well how I really love writing, right? Walaupun gaya penulisan aku masih kentang, ide nulisnya juga kentang, penulisnya juga kentang. Tapi sekali-kali kita nulis bareng, yuk? It’s been so hard to look at AK and feel love or anything positive lately and its because I know that he hung out with his ex and lied to me about it. 

When I brought up living separately he was against it and said it would be the beginning of our break up and yes I agree it would be but that would have been a great chance for him to agree if he didn’t want to be with me. 

So now he either lied to me because 

a. it was a harmless meet up 

b. he was cheating

c. he misses her in his life 

d. because he’s really dumb enough to believe that I would not find out? 

The part that hurts me the most is not him hanging out with her, but him telling me that he needs his personal space and the first thing he does is see his ex gf? I wasn’t aware that thats the kind of personal space that he wanted.

Yuu was relatively harmless outside of overblots. They simply caused more chaos than normal students do and sprout off random stuff that had people worried but all in all, Yuu wasn't violent. At least, that's what people had assumed until Beans Day came.

Yuu had been passing by the old, unused classroom when they noticed the box. It was a generic cardboard box with nothing abnormal about it unless you consider the label on the side reading PAINTBALL GUNS FOR BEANS DAY.

Yuu dropped their bag in shock.

"Hey, Yuu, your bag just fell- what are you looking at?" Jack peered up from behind Yuu as he grabbed the fallen bag, eyes landing on the box before he grinned, "Ah, those? Those are for tomorrow."

"T-Tomorrow?" Yuu's voice cracked, panic sweltering within their chest and threatening to explode their heart into itty bitty pieces. Was my paintball pistol in my pocket when I came? Did I bring enough spare bullets? Oh gods they didn't tell us because they were going to pull a Trojan horse-

By the time Dire realised Yuu's disappearance and the goddamm paintball assassin were connected. Jack was already running the heck away to safety while keeping a close ear at the trees.

Someone invaded the base and stole his teammates' paintball supply after AK-ing them. His partner was immediately wiped out by a barrage of paintball shot to his back when Jack had turned away for a second. And there was the unsettling feeling of being watched the second he stepped into the forest.

"Did they hire a professional?" Jack wondered to himself, rolling to the ground just in time as a paintball bullet struck the area he was just in.

He duck behind a tree, loading his gun before shooting in the direction the shooter had come from.

It didn't land.

There wasn't a single sound in the forest. Too quiet. Too unnatural. The hair on Jack's arms wildly stood at attention as he observed his surroundings.

Azul hummed, "The prefect is usually mild-mannered unless something reminded them of their old school. Maybe that's what happened?"

Grimm stretched his limbs. "Funahh~ maybe? Henchman usually gets nightmares and mumbles about paintball and war before waking up to do something while chuckling evilly in the corner of the room."
