Give me Newsies who developed or were born with disabilities over their time in the refuge and growing up in the streets of New York.

We obviously have Crutchie, who crushed his leg in a trolley accident during the trolley strikes, but how about the others?

Kid Blink, who's eye was cut badly during a fight and totally lost all vision in that eye, leaving a nasty scar where he was sliced. He jokes that he's secretly a pirate to the younger kids because he wears an eyepatch, but the real reason he has it is to hide the scar because he is embarrassed and ashamed of his scaring and how scary it can look.

JoJo, who was born with a vision impairment that makes everything extremely blurry through his perspective. Somebody always needs to read the headline to him in the morning, and he sometimes needs a selling partner to lead him in the correct direction without getting run over by a carriage.

Splint, who's broken her arm so many times and in so many different ways that it's practically unusable. It's covered in nasty scars and bruises and is swollen and bumpy from where the bone never fully set back properly.

Elmer, who deals with chronic fatigue and sometimes having to be dragged away from selling for at least a little bit because Spot can see that if he doesn't sit down soon, he will pass out from ache and exhaustion.

Albert, who lost most of his hearing in a fight at the refuge and has Katherine teach him and a few of the others some sign language so he can finally communicate as well as he can with the other newsies.

Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.

When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”

Diavolo responds:

“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.

Along with how Diavolo describe his father.

It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.

Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.

Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.

His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.

The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.

Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.

ok i actually can't sleep if i dont rant into the void about this so here's my thoughts: to all the people (mainly on tiktok) who complained and bitched and moaned about the changing of the deadline and the fact that they "failed" the quest-- how does it feel to be WRONG. (/j)

percy and luke have always been each others foils, always. additionally, we know that this adaptation has explored percy's love for his mom the one who raised him, over the gods- he literally says "i'm sally jackson's son" to two immortal beings, because the gods have never been there for him.

luke takes advantage of that. he tells percy the truth, because it is true, the gods don't care about them, and sees so much potential in him. he never wanted to be percy's enemy, and he likely would have succeeded in recruiting percy had percy not "failed" his quest!!

if luke had asked the percy who had never seen his father even show so much as a sign that he cared to join him right at the beginning, i wholeheartedly believe percy would've joined him. at the beginning of the story, percy hates the gods because they've never done anything for him, so why should he do anything for them?

but then, he goes on this quest, and he gets to experience the ways his father does care about him, however distant they are. poseidon saves him, tells him to go to santa monica, and even though at that point they had already "failed", he still gets help!!!

if they hadn't missed the deadline and indirectly caused an entire WAR, the gravity of poseidon stepping in to save percy again would mean nothing!! poseidon, notorious, jealous brother, immediately surrenders and begs zeus not to hurt his son. he claims percy, and makes sure zeus knows that his pride, his glory means nothing in comparison to caring for his son.

and THAT is why it they changed the deadline. if percy hadn't seen his father surrender an entire war just to protect him, he likely would've gone with luke, or at the very least, be swayed. but he saw Poseidon end a war to ensure his safety- so of course he's gonna see that they're trying their best. he saw it in hermes, too- the gods trying to make amends and right their wrongs.

i truly do think this change really drives the narrative forward, both the overarching plot AND percy and luke as foils, especially given how they have explored this adaptation. so yeah, this change was good

i think the biggest issue people have when writing minority characters is how they think of them. you shouldn't have a "disabled character" in your story, you should have a "character who is disabled". you should have a "trans character" in your story, you should have a "character who is trans".

things like race, disability, gender, etc. should never be the entire character. those are ASPECTS of a character, like the character having brown hair, or have a flight response to fear, or other such things.

i've made alot of minority characters (excluding race because i don't make human ocs), and everytime stuff like that has come later in the character-making process. hell, sometimes i'm writing a character and after months of having them i have a moment of "huh. i think they have autism." or something of the sort.

didn’t want to lump this into OP’s post unasked, but the topic of “it’s okay if you just so happen to dislike somebody while still being civil about them if you have to engage with them, you don’t have to go digging for the flimsiest possible justification of your dislike” is something I think about a lot when it comes to tumblr’s relationship with media over the years, honestly.

like, it would be ahistorical and downright dishonest to say that some of tumblr’s reputation for being “a blog site with pvp enabled” doesn’t come from the fact that there are and always have been users on here who felt like they had to justify their dislike or disinterest in a really popular thing at one point. it’s just plain factual that said dislike motivated them to go digging into a creator or actor’s past to try and find something sufficiently negative that they could use it as justification for publicly dumping on something. I know this because I’ve had people say it to me, seen people say it, and I’ll admit to even having thought it myself a couple times over the years (in my defense, I’ve been on tumblr since like 2010, I was much younger then).

“I can finally make a post about how awful this show is and then I’ll never have to see people talk about it again because my mutuals will feel like they can’t reblog things from it” may not have been the exact words that anybody said, sure. but in a time before we had resources for blocking tags and posts we didn’t want to see, the extremely nebulous claim that something was “problematic” (scare quotes intentional, the term as tumblr uses it has ALWAYS been too vague and unspecific to have any real place in actual discourse or critique imo) was often enough to get mutuals and sometimes even tumblr celebrities to boost your post decrying it. and that attitude definitely extended toward people whose posts or typing quirk or overall vibe just… didn’t do it for you.

is that an okay way to act? no. is it the ONLY reason people might feel like they have to find concrete ‘proof’ their dislike of somebody is justified? definitely not. is it the only time anybody feels that way? of course not. sometimes bad people DO have bad vibes, or a show’s writing or an actor’s behavior are subtle red flags that subconsciously warn us not to get too invested in something. but the very specific “once I have the perfect reason for disliking this crafted, I can bring it up whenever I need to or keep it in mind if anybody asks why I’m so rude to this guy or get so mad when I see gifs from this show” mindset is one that’s sadly had a lot of cultivation and fuel devoted to it over the site’s various eras of discourse. unlearning the idea that you have to have a reason to dislike someone and internalizing “I can be civil to this person or neutral about this thing other people like, and avoid them/block the tag for whatever reason I want”, is one of the healthiest things for a person to do.

Black Jack Media Compilation List

So a while ago I made this post here asking if anyone had seen a link to and/or might know where to find the Black Jack ONA episodes online since I have been going through the anime portion of the franchise, and I had yet to find any place online to stream said episodes.

That said, thanks to the much appreciated help from @jesidres as well as @tiredmoth-cryptid (which I am forever grateful for btw; seriously thank you so, so much I can’t tell you how much finding out about this information has made this past week for me), I have indeed discovered that the ONA episodes are not only still online via torrent sites like nyaa.si and bakabt, but that you can also stream them on the site bilibili as well!

However, as nice as this is, through the help of @tiredmoth-cryptid I have also found a multilanguage media compilation list created by the twitter user @Rikiishiapple for just about every piece of Black Jack media that exists, which is as follows:

Said list not only provides the links to the various anime, games, manga, etc. of Black Jack that have existed over the years, but it also has links to copies of the original Japanese versions as well as the media in other languages such as Spanish, English, and Chinese (although it also has many more aside from these languages as well).  That said, after going through the list, I have found the vast majority of the links to still be in working condition, but even if there are broken links listed, I still wanted to share this list because this franchise isn’t very well known where I live, and with help from others, the community might be able to find updated links to replace the broken ones (especially for the links to media in languages other than English)

As such, if you do indeed find said updated links, please consider contacting the original twitter user (again, @Rikiishiapple) so that they can update this compilation list as they wish!  Otherwise, thank you so much again to @jesidres and @tiredmoth-cryptid for your help in my search for the ONA episodes, and if you read this post all the way, I hope you have a wonderful day~

He's not even paid for it, but with his...trombone experience, amongst other things, he's best for the job. He whips up the band's marching technique inexplicably well despite the students unanimously agreeing that they've, uh, never seen him really walk or demonstrate in rehearsal.

Someone asked this in the tags, but the white gloves are just part of the uniform and not just the drum major ones! To differentiate them the drum majors have silver lining in theirs. It helps to see when competitions are at night.

It seems time and time again Noelle finds Kris playing songs she's never heard. They're very beautiful, if not yielding a certain kind of pain. They're always the last one to leave rehearsal. They always look alone.

Okay it's very important to my soul that Deltarune takes place in a podunk town in like, Fantasy Wisconsin. As a result the drive to other highschools is always a minimum of an hour (European trial of strength)

Oh! This isn't necessarily apart of marching band, but Azzy before he left was a hard and true choir kid. He’d always be caught waiting for Kris to finish up after rehearsal singing with another girl from town. Forgot who, though.

anyone got any mj and hat bonding centric ideas? While focusing mostly on writing the prologue and my writing improving from doing so, I’ve been using it as a opportunity to rework a lot of the main fic events, specifically the early stuff so it flows nicer and isn’t as rushed, bc there’s not near as many pre manor chapters as post manor ones, while I was able to move one chapter earlier, I couldn’t do it with the other ones, mostly bc those ones relied too much on it being post manor to change (the chapter in question was shapes chapter bc I was able to rework the manor references into foreshadowing/set up and it definitely works a lot better that way as it builds up the tension :3 plus it makes more sense to have a lower stakes thing happen before a bigger stakes thing, and not the other way around yk)

ANYWAY while in the process of adding some ideas or splitting parts into their own chapters I realized I severely need some more dadjumper content, but I’m not the greatest at coming up with fluff scenarios off the top of my head, so yeah like I said any idea suggestions from you guys would be great!
