I was explaining species dysphoria to a guy on Reddit once and he responded somewhere along the lines of "I won't believe in it until I see a study." And that was just... a baffling take to me. This person, for context, was on a queer subreddit and a lot of his comments were defending queer topics. His response intrigued me.
Like- ok. I am an arctic fox. This is a thing I know about myself. I am asserting that self-knowledge, and he responds by saying my thoughts aren't scientific/rational. Weird. I'd venture most thoughts, especially those of such nebulous nature as identity, don't really come up scientific or rational.
But anyway, what would a scientific study on species dysphoria even look like? A bunch of people giving firsthand accounts of their emotions.
So, to boil down his argument, alterhumans don't exist because people in a university haven't asked a bunch of alterhumans to assert their existence.
Baffling.
Anyway I love all my alterhuman/therian/otherkin sophonts like myself, keep being badass!

I need someone to behold me in terror. I need someone to see me and scream, "WHAT IN THE 20 LEVELS OF THE ABYSS IS /THAT/?!" I need people to be horrified by my very existence. I need to be so incomprehensible that the unfortunate souls who gaze upon me can not even truly describe what they saw. I need to make someone go mad because they saw my true form. I need people to tell horror stories about me. I need people to shudder as they think of the dragon-shaped monster from the 20th level of the abyss that spits acid from its fangs so deadly it can melt mountains and causes storms just be flapping it's wings.

Trying to communicate my alterhuman feelings to my parents is hard because I'm like "I don't like being human, I wish I was an animal and I feel like I'd be happier as one and I overall just don't feel like a human." and they're like "noooo!! :(( don't say that, you can be happy as a human!! you're a human!!!" no, mum, this isn't a part of my depression, this is me coming out to you as a fucking crow.

something I’ve rarely but have unfortunately seen in the community is people complaining and even annoyed about the ‘inaccuracies’ of some people’s kintypes? I understand that often an interest or special interest in a specific animal will accompany therianthropy, but it wasn’t something I expected to see from this community
so let me say this: you are NOT less valid if your kintype is not ‘scientifically accurate’.
if you are a bird or a bat, so what if your wings are on your back?
if you are an unnatural colour, so what if your animal isn’t typically bright pink or green or blue with yellow stripes?
so what if you crave meat in your shifts as a herbivore kintype?
so what if you have markings or patterns than wouldn’t appear in nature?
you are the coolest guy around !! 🦇
