one of the funniest things about the whole 'akane is the worst fiancée' argument is how everyone always says she can't cook or sew or is 'violent' (which is even funnier since this is a slapstick romcom) but they never take into account her taking care of ranma or anyone else or that she is kind and funny and goofy and fun and a teenage girl

it's almost like people think the only thing a woman can provide in a marriage is her skills as a cook, seamstress, and her ability to make the 'man' feel good .. like, they are literal teenagers, relax lmaoooo

ranma and akane are teenagers who become friends and slowly fall in love with each other (true love cause it is a romcom manga after all) ... and the most important thing about their story is how everyone expects something of them and they finally meet someone who actually SEES THEM (faults and all) and they WANT to be with each other simply because it's nice to be wanted without having to be someone they are not

(also it is my headcanon that akane does learn how to cook as she gets older but when she marries ranma, he takes over the kitchen duties because he likes cooking for akane like a good housewife/husband)

LITERALLY idk why ppl expect her to be a 50s housewife 🤪 and the idea that maybe ranma likes her not just in spite of, but BECAUSE she’s a tomboy is so baffling to some ppl

Like sure. Ukyo and shampoo are also martial artists, and on a very surface level they’re “nicer” to ranma (as long as he’s doing what they want…) They’re much quicker to be affectionate and show off what Wifely Skills they have or whatever, but its very clear they don’t care about taking the time to get to know ranma and are just attracted to the version of him in their heads

Akane’s the one who has stuck by him this whole time, even protecting him from kuno at the very start of the series despite heavily disliking ranma. She patches him up and fights alongside him and shares her thoughts and problems with him and lets him do the same, and they grow to love each other because of who the other person is, not what they can offer. Idk why ppl think he’d be happier if akane was a doormat instead of an actual person who challenges him to be better

decided to keep this one fairly simple, but enjoy some pensive art of my queer punk former nightmare former aetherblade eventual sylvari commander (he/they, kid has such a history), post a rotsap attack that left him chronically (and visibly) ill for several years

In the fell! Handplates au what do you think gaster would do to protect the boys? If torial or asgore ever tried to hurt/take away or kill them would he finally snap and fight? I’ve always liked the idea that gaster (despite not being royal) is considerably more powerful then asgore or torial due to how versatile and complex skeleton attacks can be plus he is a boss monster who’s old af.

I would love to see fell! Asgore and torial absolutely get their asses handed to them by a protective gaster. Lol can you imagine their shock? (:

I think Fell!Gaster would still keep the boys as his secret project to start - Honestly, I really like the idea of him following the same basic beats as Classic Handplates Gaster! Constructing the lab, hole-punching his hands, bringing the boys to life and then experimenting on them in secret, now under the pretense of finding "inherent goodness in Monsters" or inducing it, bringing it forward, however he goes about doing that. So if they did find them, it'd at least be a while

But, I also really like the idea of Gaster still being hopelessly devoted to the Dreemurrs! That raising a hand against them would hurt infinitely worse than whatever they have to dish out against him, and that being why he takes their abuse - if he could only save them! If he could only show them a better way! Then they could all finally be happy, one big family! 💕

As for the boys and what Gaster would be willing to do to protect them, I think it would also be similar to what Classic does - put himself between the brothers and danger to the best of his ability. I do think it would be an interesting turn for him to have to choose between protecting them and his pacifism towards other Monsters if the Dreemurrs got ahold of them somehow - the internal conflict of finally having to face his own darkness! Even if he tried to justify it, I think that'd really be the tipping point for him :)

All right, it seems like I’ve got a lot of understanding and rational people who responded to my earlier inquiry about making a Claire criticism post. So I’m gonna go ahead and do it, since this is something that’s sat in my mind every time a new installment of the ToA series came out.

SO BIG DISCLAIMER BECAUSE I WANT EVERYONE TO READ THIS BEFORE ANYONE GETS MAD AT ME:

THIS IS ALL MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION. I MIGHT BE PHRASING THIS POST LIKE IT’S AN ABSOLUTE, BUT IT’S NOT, IT’S ALL ISSUES I PERSONALLY FEEL WITH CLAIRE’S CHARACTER. SO IF YOU LIKE CLAIRE, THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK OR ME TELLING YOU YOU’RE WRONG ABOUT SOMETHING/CAN’T LIKE CLAIRE.

Now that I think I’ve got that out of the way, I wanna jump into the actual post of why I’ve never really liked Claire’s character.

If we’re being really really REALLY honest... I think the issue is mostly based off of “The writers didn’t know how to write Claire”. I’ve felt like every character in Trollhunters (specifically Trollhunters, we don’t talk about 3Below and while Wizards was pretty positive overall, that was also a lot of hit or miss, and that series plays even more into why I don’t like Claire) was executed pretty well to fulfill their roles as characters or to be compelling and pretty easy to grasp their personalities.

Except Claire.

Personality issues:

Her character’s inconsistent and flip-flops. To start off, her intro in the series is just “pretty girl that Jim likes”. We get the promising sense that she has some non-conforming interests at first, as she’s advertising try-outs for the play, but that’s just lifted from the Trollhunters book and we never see any interest in theater arts from Claire ever again after that. Her hair (and I’m sorry but I hate her hair with all the stupid hairclips in the front, it’s so distracting and it looks dumb) with the streak in it and the skull shirt she wears makes you assume she’s somewhat rebellious, maybe kind of punk, but she’s a straight-A trouble-free student who’s apparently popular with everyone, and helps her mom out with campaigning for her political career. There’s really nothing to her personality that shows itself consistently, besides the Papa Skull interest.

And then there’s how badly her character and personality was executed at first; When Steve’s about to beat up Jim, she tries to step in but gets shoved back. Great! She has a sense of right and wrong and she’ll stand up for others. But then later on, she scolds Jim for the crime of... standing up for himself? Which sends a really bad message that she’d have rather had Jim publicly humiliate himself and/or possibly get beat up. Then later she’s willing to go to a Papa Skull concert with the same guy who shoved her. That’s incredibly weak character right there.

She starts to show some more positive character when after getting mad at Jim for trashing the house, she puts two and two together and realizes something’s off, but then she just... sneaks into his house like a weirdo, even though nothing about her character suggests that she’d do something like that and she has no real reason besides “Jim wasn’t straightforward about the party”; it’s not something a normal person would do or what SHE would do given her current character development. And then this one’s a smaller gripe, but I hated her scoff in Wizards when the tournament was going on and the guards didn’t let her in, she goes “Ugh, boys’ club!”. UH HELLO, YOU IDIOT. THERE WERE FEMALE GUARDS CLEARLY EMPLOYED IN ARTHUR’S SERVICE. HELL, THE GUARD THAT BULLAR ATE WAS A FEMALE GUARD. GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND STOP PRETENDING LIKE YOU’RE BEING SLIGHTED BECAUSE YOU’RE A GIRL. YOU WERE CONSIDERED A CIVILIAN TRYING TO ENTER A TOURNAMENT FOR TRAINED KNIGHTS.

Now past all the character inconsistencies in those first thirteen-ish episodes, the second issue I have with Claire’s character is that she teeters pretty dangerously into Mary Sue territory. Everyone (I was almost gonna say “who isn’t a major villain” but EVEN MORGANA ends up liking her. So MOSTLY everyone) who isn’t a main antagonist ends up liking Claire in some way. Steve the bully? Tries to date her. Mary, whom she said she wasn’t really close friends with? Is friends with her and even has her number. Freaking VENDEL, the grumpiest character in the show, only has to hear her talk in Troll and he immediately likes her without her having to earn his trust (which also she just... never uses Troll again. Sure is convenient that she learned to speak fluent Troll just for one scene and one character to like her). Morgana takes a liking to her. Compare that to how hard Jim had to work to gain the trust of others: His bond with Draal, learning to prove himself to Vendel, engaging with Nomura in prison and befriending her. She too easily assimilates with other characters; I’d have less issues if she had to work like Jim did, but the only time she does is with NotEnrique.

Skills and abilities don’t feel earned or consistent:

And then the whole thing with her powers and her physical abilities. It was never explained in the show how she actually obtained innate magic powers not connected to the Shadow Staff itself (And no, if you have to explain it on Twitter as a writer, that’s not good writing, that’s forcing your audience to play detective). She’s just all of a sudden doing awfully-convenient high-level magic in the first two episodes (or maybe three, whenever she created that shadow-cover for Jim and the others to escape.) without explaining HOW she had got those powers, and then she performs it perfectly whenever the plot needs it (She’s literally shown to be more powerful than Merlin, how stupid is that?). Remember in the movie where everyone was like “Oh no Claire, don’t use your powers because it could hurt you!” and she does anyways and she faints for like three seconds and then has no other physical repercussions? Or how she’s somehow MORE capable than Jim when it comes to fighting, like how in the Chinese Trollmarket she manages to swipe one of the other troll’s weapons, which has an entirely different weight and size to her shadow staff and probably required extensive training, and she just uses it flawlessly to fight? The only times Claire really fails are when the plot calls for it.

Plot can’t happen without her:

And finally, she hijacks the plot constantly, more than her character should, and has more importance placed on her role in the story than anyone else. Even Blinky. She even took over the plot for Wizards, which was supposed to be Douxie’s story and Douxie’s character-focus. The poor guy took a backseat to his own story because the plot relied on Claire to move forward, literally nothing could be done without her. And I mentioned it before but even though Douxie’s character still managed to get enough development, it was hardly enough because Claire hogged up so much screen-time focusing on HER and HER magic development and HER relationship with Morgana over Douxie and HIS magic development and HIS relationship with Merlin.

And also the fact that it’s Claire who ends up either saving the day or taking priority over the others. Who was the one who defeated Morgana in Trollhunters? Claire. Who brought Jim back to life as a human, despite the fact that even Merlin stated it was impossible for him to make Jim a human again? Claire. Who was it that Jim made sure to establish his relationship with, but not anyone else? CLAIRE. That ending in the movie where he doesn’t seem to care about his relationship with Blinky, Draal, Strickler, etc, but oh we’ve GOTTA have his girlfriend!

Overall, even typing this, I don’t think it’s her fault even though I hate her character; it’s the writers’ fault for doing such a sloppy and inconsistent job because she’s boiled down to just a “girl empowerment”. Because in the book, Claire Fontaine is AWESOME. She’s a Scot descended from a warrior lineage which actually explains why she has weapon capabilities, she’s explained that she’s not really a “popular girl” but she’s super confident in herself and doesn’t really care what others think, and that’s what Jim finds charming about her, and she rips Steve a new one after hearing that he’s just trying to charm her to piss off Jim.

But Claire Nunez is a mess of a poorly executed character. And again, I blame the writers because I think Claire could have been great if they knew what they were doing with her and made her balanced.

Not Claire. Not Aja. Barbara #But yeah I've been sitting on this for like... five or six years now so it feels good to get this criticism off my chest

The idea of Anakin trying to “fix” what he did as Vader (or more like redeem himself, since what he did can't be ‘fixed’) by helping people all over the galaxy as a Force Ghost does something to me

#anakin skywalker #darth vader #star wars #like. he goes to tatooine to help children find their way home when there's a sandstorm #he helps the slaves find food and water #when the empire returns he stays with the child soldiers they're using to give them company #he eventually becomes famous #leia and luke hear about this and go investigating #leia gets herself stuck in a shipwreck somehow and anakin helps her fix it without telling her who he is until she's finally safe #anakin regularly talks to luke and tells him stories about his mother. he doesn't see obi wan much but they're way better than before #leia doesn't forgive him (she never will) but after a while she's willing to listen to him #anakin is happy. leia will never forgive him but she can at least try to get to know him better bc that's what they both deserve #anakin is scared of interacting with ben solo bc he doesn't want him to end up the same way he did #still when ben gets lost in the woods he goes to help him. other children used to make fun of ben for never seeing the blue ghost #until he shows himself in front of them and says hi to ben like he knew him from forever #leia's not thrilled but she gets why he did it #anakin is being blocked from talking to ben when he Falls. he promises leia that he'll try to get through him but it's just not working #when ben dies anakin scolds him. that's when ben realizes that “YOU are darth vader??”#“i sure fucking am”#he helps rey and finally gains the courage to talk to ahsoka and apologize to her #just imagine the possibilities #avis talks #avis' post

while im sharing my ahit hot takes, i also wanna add that i think ppl give Mu a little too much slack

like yeah, she IS a child, she WAS traumatized and had her home essentially colonized for no reason. its implied her family was killed and she spend at least a solid year completely alone, homeless, and scared

but like she also used time pieces to reverse the world 4 billion years back and killed everyone she thought was "bad" based on a short description they gave of their own life (if they were lucky enough to even get to the throne room and not die from the lava inside the castle). ppl act like the entire cast were horrible people for telling her to go away when she literally destroyed the earth???? like no one in ahit is a good person guys theyre all assholes lmao

#idk it's just really frustrating to think that people will ALWAYS make allowances for people they're romantically in love with but #not make those same allowances for someone else they otherwise care about.#that people will risk things for their partners that they wouldn't for their friends #that it's EXPECTED for you to prioritize your spouse/significant other/etc. at all times but prioritizing your friend(s) is rarely even #considered. and when you're like me and you LITERALLY CANNOT DO THIS SHIT BY YOURSELF...#like I know I go on and on about marrying some theoretical woman all the time (and my ongoing...whatever this is. with Musician Guy)#but genuinely I'm not even sure that I want that I think I just want someone who will fucking visit me in the hospital if I get into a car #crash or fix me soup when I'm sick.#like...yeah. in that one story I wrote I think I distilled it down: we all just want someone to hold us when we're sad #and it SUCKS that the only avenue we seem to be allowed to pursue that is through a romantic relationship #right now I have my dad but if something happens to him...I genuinely do not know what I'm going to do. I'll have nowhere to go #if something terrible happens. anyway if, by the time i have figured out how to code a game, we still dont have it (and i expect we wont) i WILL make an rpg with aro "love" interests. ur protagonist can be an aroallo whore now. whats love if not the thing that some people feel sometimes. some of your allies are only down to have sex with you and will reject you outright if you try to romance them. no monogamy limits outside of maybe specific actual romances. these aros would be absolutely destroyed by the potential fandom but its ok i didnt make them for you <2

Feeling sentimental over Sasuke tonight.

I can't stand when I see him portrayed as just a dramatic little boy, because fuck , his grief and his anger and all his sorrow and bitterness came from a love so soo big it made the world dark, his heart exploded over the sky and tainted it gloomy red.

What was love and friendship to him in a world boiling with corruption, with greed? And what's a flower in a battlefield? Can it bloom? What is the song of a lover over the roar of an earthquake? Would you let a bird go if you know it'd kill it or would you keep it caged? Or would you go out and kill whatever is waiting for the little bird?

Sasuke got so lost wondering how could he live a fiction, 'cause dreams alone can't save the world. Who would descend to hell and purge the devils in there? What's Orochimaru alive if not for that job? What was Danzo there for? What was Itachi there for? Why is that people only worship what shines? Why is that the kages can decide to start a war for nothing but greed? Why is that the heroes' sins are never counted? Why is that some of the last survivors of the clans that founded Konoha were roaming the world searching for justice in themselves, not in the place that was supposed to be their home?

Obito. Itachi. Sasuke. Tsunade. Naruto. Karin.

Uchihas. Senjus. Uzumakis. Outcasts of Konoha.

But then when Sasuke talks, they only listen to the "hatred" and not the truth behind?

That "hatred" came from a wound no one had the right to expect to know. It came from devotion, from the love of a little brother, the same way it came from Itachi. It came without a warning at such young age; their bones ached all at once and aged years in a minute. It teared holes in their eyes, black signs, dark omens, patterns of stars and silent mathematical equations to alter the world around them, to alter their fate.

And isn't it the tragedy of the Uchihas? To be able to slow down the world and copy what they see, to be able to travel to other dimensions and to be able to web nightmares and dreams. But even if they can make you live your entire life in a illusion or could help the dead came back from life, they can't erase what was, they can't make the pain go away, they can't forget. What's s dead was dead, what's done was done.

“ I can fix it. I can save them. I can fix the world. ”

But once it's over and they have tried (and failed in some degree), who is going to fix their empty chests? For all they poured and all they gave and all the flesh they use to carry the burden of the world, where can they rest without the constant reminder of what they've lost?
