I like birdsong and wildflowers and swirling leaves and the busy colourfulness of the other three seasons, but there's something so... unanxious about winter walks, to me. The minimalist black-and-white stillness empties the mind of noise and nonsense like nothing else.

they really used silver as a model and said "let him be blonde" as one of the three gifts he got from the three fairies.

I'm delighted to report that my father, who read Death Note nine years ago because he wanted to be able to read my fics but then got so invested in the manga that he forgot why he started reading it, has (a) finally read TIHID and (b) given me the following review, which I would absolutely slap on the book cover if it had one:

The US gov't (especially Kissinger) sure heaped a lot on Indochina including Cambodia, didn't it?
Absolutely, in the 1970s Southeast Asia was the primary focus for american imperialism, now its the Middle East and the next will be Africa. Wars and political interference by the united states killed an unimaginable number of humans and wrought untold devastation. In regards to Cambodia, u.s. bombing transformed the Khemer rouge into genocidal tyrants who killed 25% of the population (it needs to be stated that the khemer rouge were first and foremost nationalists with anti-Vietnamese sentiment being one of the key forces of their ideology) the u.s. supported them hoping they could be used against North Vietnam.
Forgive me if this is just rambling and not direct enough, if so let me know, I could go on for days.
I highly recommed this article as a good starting point

Am I writing the horror short I'm meant to be writing?
No, I am researching 18th century textiles and fashion and merchant ships to build up background for a book I haven't even started writing yet.
Background that may only come up in a single line or two and have no bearing on the plot at all.
You know, like a writer do.

With Hades 2 releasing it reminded me I still have to beat Hades... I have no idea how it ends as I have (somehow) not been spoiled yet... Guess I know what game I'm playing for the next week

After somehow managing to finish the final draft of a fic while powering through a migraine and 0 hours of sleep, I am now trying to convince my incredibly tired but still very chaotic self that waiting until tomorrow so I can have one final (and coherent) read through is really the best idea
I've also gotta get through the rest of the work day so wish me luck!

I think I had the nicest birthday party I've ever had today, without even trying to have a party. I've had a lot of awful birthdays and it tends to be a real source of anxiety for me. So I usually either don't have one at all (last year I went overseas on my own just before my birthday to dodge the question of having a party) or I stress over it too much to enjoy anything. But! I think I've discovered a strategy that works. I found an activity I wanted to do, and casually dropped it in the group chat with a breezy 'anyone is welcome to join. Absolutely no pressure since it's kind of niche, but if you're interested'. Also mentioned it to a few other people I happened to catch up with over the last few weeks. And actually a whole bunch of my friends joined, and even more wanted to but it sold out. It was really fun and lovely. Low pressure. No sense of it being a moratorium on my worth as a person or whether I'm loved. Just a nice afternoon with friends and we went out to dinner afterwards. Will absolutely do this again.
