★ EXCLUSIVE: ‘Salman Khan deserves good scripts; Have discussed 2 – 3 ideas with him,’ reveals Rajkumar Santoshi!
Jan 20, 2023
Rajkumar Santoshi and Salman Khan have a special bond. While the duo have worked together in the 1994 cult comedy, Andaaz Apna Apna, Salman has done a guest appearance for his ‘Raj Ji’ in two films – the Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani and the Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz fronted Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. In 2016, Rajkumar Santoshi was in talks with Salman for 2 films, an original rooted entertainer tentatively titled Daanveer and also the official adaptation of An Ode To My Father, which eventually was made by Ali Abbas Zafar as Bharat. In an exclusive candid chat with Pinkvilla, Rajkumar Santoshi opened up about his bond with Salman Khan Salman Khan will stand by the side of every person in need
“Salman Khan is a very good human being and people have a misplaced understanding of who he is. For me, he is a great friend, who never says no for anything. If some person in need reaches out to Salman, he will stand by their side. ‘Bhagwan Ke Ghar Der Hai, Par Andher Nahi. Salman Ka Bhi Aisa Hi Hai’, once you meet Salman, he will win you over,” says Rajkumar Santoshi, adding further that over and above being a good human being, Salman is a great actor too. “Personally, I feel, Salman is not getting good scripts off late. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was one of the good script he got and did a wonderful job there. He deserves good scripts.
”The director goes ahead to add that Salman can blend himself into any genre. “He can do Andaaz Apna Apna and even Lahore: 1947. But he often get’s stuck in his image. I don’t want Salman to be Salman, I want him to be the character. Like in Andaaz Apna Apna, we find Prem in it and not Salman. That’s my attempt. Even when I made film with Sunny Deol, he was the character and not himself,” Rajkumar Santoshi explains. The filmmaker, known for classics like Ghayal, Khakhee, Ghatak, Damini, Legend of Bhagat Singh and Andaaz Apna Apna to name some, however admits that being a superstar comes with own set of challenges.
Salman Khan should not be Salman Khan in all films
“He is a superstar, but he should not be Salman Khan in all films. Look at Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Tere Naam. He often scores big when he plays a character. Yes, maintaining an image is important but he has the Tiger Franchise for that. Now, I wish he does some subjects which challenge the actor in him,” he admits. Being close to Salman, is Rajkumar Santoshi planning to make a feature film with him anytime soon? He answers, “I have discussed 2-3 ideas with Salman and will take them forward at the right time. My family is a Salman Khan loyalist and every day, they remind me to meet Salman and make a film with him. Salman often meets me with so much love. I am ready to make a film with him and just waiting to get a go ahead. I look forward to make a very good film with Saman Khan.
”Salman aside, Rajkumar Santoshi is also in talks for a film with Aamir Khan. “Aamir is a very good friend of mine and I really respect him as an actor and a person. He sticks to the roots and really likes me. There’s a story, there’s a subject which I have developed for Aamir. I was going to meet him around the time of Laal Singh Chaddha release, but he has announced a break right now. I will narrate him the story when we meet and try to end his break. I will try and get him back on the film set soon,” he says.

The Rise of Jet Engine Manufacturing in India: A Story of Innovation and Self-Reliance
DG Propulsion and the Pursuit of a Made-in-India Jet Engine
The spirit of "Make-in-India" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India)," championed by the Narendra Modi government, has permeated nearly every sector in India. The defence sector, in particular, has witnessed a renewed focus on indigenous production and technological self-sufficiency. As India strengthens its air power, the development of jet engines has become a crucial aspect of its defense strategy.
While the country explores partnerships with foreign nations to acquire advanced engine technology, there is an emerging private initiative that aims to build a jet engine entirely in India.
Prateek Dhawan, the founder of DG Propulsion, is leading this innovative effort. With a background in mechanical engineering and a passion for aviation, Dhawan embarked on a journey to create a powerful gas turbine engine for small aircraft and high-lift-power jetpacks. His vision is to hand India its very own jet engine, a feat that has been flying under the radar but deserves a closer look.
youtube
The Early Years: From College Projects to National Recognition
While still studying Mechanical Engineering at the Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology in Jalandhar, Punjab, Dhawan began experimenting with homemade jet engines. Alongside his classmates Anand Utsav Kapoor and Mahesh Kumar Mobiya, he integrated this hobby into his coursework. Together, they built a micro gas turbine, inspired by the propulsion mechanism of a jet aircraft.
Their goal was to create a power generation solution for remote areas without access to the grid. The micro gas turbine they designed could operate on various fuels and had the potential to produce 25 KW of power, enough to light up 25-30 houses in a village or urban locality. In 2015, a year after their graduation, Dhawan, Kapoor, and Mobiya presented their project titled "Design and Fabrication of a Micro Gas Turbine Using an Automotive Turbocharger for Distributed Power Generation" and won a national award for engineering students.
DG Propulsion's Ambitious Vision for India's Jet Engine Industry
After the success of their college project, Dhawan was determined to turn his passion for jet engines into a full-fledged manufacturing company. He founded DG Propulsion, which specializes in creating aerospace products, with a specific focus on developing a powerful gas turbine engine for small aircraft and high-lift-power jetpacks.
His ultimate goal is to provide India with its very own jet engine. While the country has been exploring partnerships with foreign nations for advanced engine technology, Dhawan believes that achieving self-reliance in this critical area is crucial for India's long-term defense strategy. By developing indigenous jet engines, India can reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers and have complete control over the design, manufacturing, and maintenance processes.
Overcoming Challenges and Making Strides in Jet Engine Development
Building jet engines from scratch is a complex and challenging endeavor. The lack of domestic manufacturing capabilities and limited technology transfer opportunities have hindered progress in this field in India. Additionally, the high cost of research and development has acted as a deterrent for many potential innovators.
However, despite these challenges, DG Propulsion has been making significant strides in jet engine development. Dhawan and his team have focused on creating a gas turbine engine that is not only powerful but also lightweight, fuel-efficient, and cost-effective. Their expertise in this area has garnered attention and recognition from industry experts and enthusiasts alike.
The Potential Impact of DG Propulsion's Endeavors
While DG Propulsion's journey is still in its early stages, the potential impact of their work cannot be understated. By developing indigenous jet engines, DG Propulsion aims to contribute to India's self-reliance in the defense sector and bolster its technological capabilities. The successful creation of a made-in-India jet engine would not only enhance the country's defense capabilities but also open up new avenues for innovation, job creation, and economic growth.
Furthermore, DG Propulsion's efforts align with the government's vision of "Make-in-India" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat," fostering a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance. Their journey serves as an inspiration for other aspiring engineers and entrepreneurs, showcasing the potential of India's homegrown talent in shaping the future of the aerospace industry.
Prateek Dhawan and DG Propulsion's pursuit of a made-in-India jet engine exemplify the spirit of innovation and self-reliance that is sweeping across the country. While India explores partnerships with foreign nations for advanced engine technology, DG Propulsion is making significant strides in developing indigenous jet engines. Their vision aligns with the government's efforts to strengthen India's defense capabilities and foster domestic manufacturing.
The successful realization of their ambitions would not only enhance India's technological prowess but also contribute to economic growth and job creation. As DG Propulsion continues its journey, their story serves as a testament to the power of determination, passion, and the limitless potential of Indian talent.

Can we live with Robots? Prodotto da Swan Films  per Channel 4;
Why do we dance (in cinque episodi intitolati: Storie, Provocazione, Anima e Corpo, Identità, Eros) per Sky, qui il link https://www.nowtv.it/streaming/dance-perche-balliamo/skyarte_b1ee405897c040489d5ab14ba37ea817/skyarte_5ed571baef0a4e7d9ed062cb0ba11026/seasons/1;
Un episodio (il quinto) della serie MOVE che puoi trovare su Netflix.
Nel prossimo attraversamento parleremo di Marco Goecke, altro protagonista del Fic Dance Workshop 2024.

PM Modi pens a tributary article for Karpori Thakur who will be awarded Bharat Ratna
The former Chief Minister of Bihar, Karpori Thakur, will be awarded the highest civilian award in India Bharat Ratna. The announcement was made on Monday, a day before his birth anniversary.
PM Modi acknowledged the announcement made by the Centre and said, "I am delighted that the Government of India has decided to confer the Bharat Ratna on the beacon of social justice, the great Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji, and that too at a time when we are marking his birth centenary," he posted on X.
PM Modi also wrote a tributary article on the veteran political leader to mark his birth anniversary.
Today is the birth centenary of Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji, whose relentless pursuit of social justice created a positive impact in the lives of crores of people. I never had the opportunity to meet Karpoori Ji but, I heard a lot about him from Kailashpati Mishra Ji, who worked closely with him. He belonged to one of the most backward sections of society, the Nai Samaj. Overcoming numerous obstacles, he achieved a lot and worked for societal betterment.
Jan Nayak Kapoor Thakur Ji's life revolved around the twin pillars of simplicity and social justice. Till his last breath, his simple lifestyle and humble nature resonated deeply with the common people. There are numerous anecdotes that highlight his simplicity. Those who worked with him recall how he preferred to spend his own money for any personal matter including his daughter's wedding. During his tenure as Chief Minister of Bihar, a decision was taken to build a colony for political leaders but he himself did not take any land or money for the same. When he passed away in 1988, several leaders went to his village to pay tributes. When they saw the condition of his house, they were moved to tears- how can someone so towering have a house so simple!
Another anecdote of his simplicity dates back to 1977 when he just took over as CM of Bihar. The Janata Government was in power in Delhi and Patna. That time, Janata leaders had gathered in Patna to mark Loknayak JP's birthday. Among the galaxy of top leaders walked in Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur Ji, with a torn Kurta. In his own style, Chandrashekhar Ji asked people to donate some money so that Karpoori Ji could purchase a new Kurta. But, Karpoori Ji was Karpoori Ji- he accepted the money but donated it to the CM Relief Fund.
Social justice was most dear to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji. His political journey was marked by monumental efforts to create a society where resources were distributed fairly, and everyone, regardless of their social standing, had access to opportunities. He wanted to address the systemic inequalities that plagued Indian society.
Such was his commitment to his ideals that despite living in an era where the Congress Party was omnipresent, he took a distinctly anti-Congress line because he was convinced very early on that the Congress had deviated from its founding principles.
His electoral career began in the early 1950s and since then, he became a force to reckon with in the legislative chambers, powerfully voicing the struggles of the working class, labourers, small farmers and youngsters. Education was a subject very close to his heart. Throughout his political career he worked to improve education facilities for the poor. He was a proponent of education in local languages so that people from small towns and villages can climb the ladder and attain success. As CM, he took many measures for the welfare of senior citizens as well.
PM Modi concluded the article by thanking Lt. Shri Karpori Thakur for his contribution. “As a person belonging to the backward classes myself, I have much to thank Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji for. Unfortunately, we lost Karpoori Ji at a relatively young age of 64. We lost him when we needed him the most. Yet, he lives on in the heart and minds of crores of people due to his work. He was a true Jan Nayak!”
