i think that critiquing the way mg wrote diana’s arc and how it is perhaps too focused on how it relates to male characters, especially caine, is of course valid, but i also think that there isn’t enough focus on how the second half of the series flips it. diana’s arc is heavily reliant on caine; her manipulation of him, her conflicting feelings of love and disgust towards him, her sexual relationship with him and their child that she misguidedly hopes will be her redemption, that is in fact a harbinger of more death and destruction. but caine’s arc in the latter books is almost entirely structured around diana’s. his desire for her was always present, whereas diana only confesses her feelings for him later which gives him the power in their relationship when he refuses to confess back (power is caine’s motive in almost all aspects until diana leaves him). diana leaving him to start her own redemption arc is what forces caine to start his - he begins to sacrifice power to others, work to help others without reward as part of a team, he tells diana he loves her (sacrificing his emotional power) and then dies to save her. that arc does not exist without diana, and without diana’s arc.

Chapter 27

Then she shoved away from the rail and walked to the prow to see what lay before her.

Chapter 27 summary: Caina chose to go to the other country but to continue to spy for the empire. As she goes to the ship, she finds her friends waiting for her. Ark expresses how this isn't justice, this is a whiny little man throwing a tantrum and getting his way. The others tells her how important she is to them.

Martin says that Claudia wouldn't come, and blames her for the death of her brother. Caina thinks that Claudia might be right.

Caina makes Ark promise to look after her coffee shop while she's gone... with the implication that she might be back sooner or later. Not as Caina or Sonya, but probably as somebody else. He promises, and Theodosia will make everybody in the area know that the opera house performers like to go there.

She then gets onto the boat and thinks that while the world was save and Jadriga removed forever, it only cost her literally everything.

Epilogue

For Surge foresaw that the Balarigar would carry the star, and the star was the key to the crystal. And to far worse things.

Epilogue summary: Despite this being the last full novel, I think that there are a couple of novellas that follow this. The surge makes a prediction about how important Caina is going to be. Like always, I will probably not ever get around to actually reading those...

It also says that there's supposed to be another book after this, but I'm not sure that it was actually published...? Don't care. It's over, so it's time to move on.

This is cursed as fuck but my brain always does weird shit like this and since tumblr is the de facto dump for thoughts like this I feel obligated to share it with you.

Hell Caina

Theyre honestly not very meaty. They have little bits of flesh stuck to their bones and they smell weird.... but their flesh makes a good snack if theres really nothing else. But they taste bland, almost like cardboard... and decay. -1/10

Hell Antenora/Judecca

Their flesh would taste the same as hell caina but those purple things would make good pasta if you blanched them to cook the bitterness away, otherwise that shit would taste like medicine.

If you want purple carbonara, spaghetti or mac and cheese, eat those tenties. 6/10

Pyrobat/Hellbat

theyre spicy and tangy. The texture of their flesh is kinda weird though, its quite leathery, kinda like softer beef jerky. Theyre actually really good for some korean hotpot if you have the patience to slowcook them. As for their heads, theyre too tough to be eaten but if you tossed it into a stew youd be able to get the flavors anyways. If you minced them they'd be great as taco meat because of their flavor. 7/10

Behemoth

A mix of beef and pork! Theyre great for soup, chili, or even pork belly or steak! It depends what part of them youre eating oh and those tongue limbs it has?? Great for a nice cut of filet mignon, and depending where you cut it you could get anything from brisket to bacon. 8/10

Death scissors

Fucking inedible. -1,000,000/10

Proto/scudo angelo

Is there even flesh under there or are they just made of armor through and through? Either way theyre not very meaty and their flesh would be too tough. 0/10

Fury

They look tasty, i mean they look like beef jerky/glazed meat/fruit rollups... theyd be really lean meat, they got potential but their flesh looks hella leathery, but theyre probably hella flavorful. 6/10

METEOR GARDEN (2018 CHINESE ADAPTATION)

F4 Come Together For Meizuo Even With Beef Between Si & Ximen

I will admit even though I love (almost) every adaptation all of them have superfluous parts. And the arc with Caina and Meizuo was one of those arcs.

Let's delve briefly into it. Si's story had entered its sad phase as his evil mother went after Shancai's friends in order to get Shancai to leave Daoming Si of course it worked. Shancai left on a rainy day leaving Si behind. So Caina (she won the cooking contest that Shancai entered) was supposed to marry a chef that fell for Shancai though he had no interest in Caina. So Meizuo pursued her. Come to find out she harbored feelings for an older man and basically pretended to like Meizuo and she often got hammered like a boozy bimbo unable to state her true feelings. I love Meizuo as a member of F4 but he didn't deserve this pitiful pathetic twit. I hated Caina so much I hated the actress. Especially her drunken moments. Damn did I want slap her so many times. She was the most annoying character EVER in any and all countries Dramas, Rom-Com etc...I digress.

As Daoming Si (DYLAN WANG) dropped head long into a deep depression and anger cycle he attacked Ximen (CEASAR WU) and F4 hit a rough patch. But Hauze Lei (DARREN CHEN) went to Si and spoke to him. So they all got handsome and did the F4 walk to be there for Meizuo (LEON LEONG) ending up at Caina giving her day of fun with all the members of F4.
