Note
Underrated (potential) robo fuckers include Charlene the cow girl, Joy Meadows, Susan Hoffman, Cindy Newell, Cecelia Santiago, and perhaps more.
You *cannot* tell me Charlene and Skids didn't hook up! Cecilia and Roadhandler I found out pretty recently and I am here for them!
Definitely for Joy, Susan, and Cindy... But as written by someone who isn't Simon Furman. (The Ladies' Night issue is really suspicious when you look at his past and present history of writing women. ) The idea of Onslaught with a human is one I didn't expect, but I am looking! 👀

Here are some full character profiles for Maddie and Jack Fenton, and Susan Long, or more accurately, Maddeline Jaquine Cindy Newell, Jack Magnus Newell and Susan Yu because they've basically had this treatment given we haven't properly watched their shows:
Anyway first off,
youtube
Maddie
Like her sister Maggie, she grew up in Galway, Ireland and was the one trusted to work the tills at their family corner shop. Upon reaching adulthood, she helped her sibling assigned male at birth, Maggie, by paying for her top surgery. Upon doing this, their parents found out and Craig O’Reilley kicked them out of the house for good, but this didn’t stop Maddie from robbing some money from their bank account for herself and Maggie. While the latter went to a college in America, she went to study at Cambridge University where she made friends with Vlad and Jack, Anglo-Latino and American men respectively who both are currently married to her in their own seaside home on Danville’s coast.
Once completing her studies, she moved to America to live with Jack and Vlad, stopping midway to join The Dandelions on their European tour. It was on the stretch through Spain where the three got married. Shortly afterwards the Newells left the party to spend a honeymoon in Oregon where they decided to take up permanent residence in America.
Maddie’s first job here was working for Starco, a photo developer which was established secretly to invade people’s privacy, something that Dexter inadvertently had a part in shutting down, when he fought the aunt he didn’t know worked for them at the time. He didn’t even recognise her. She then moved on to being a violinist for the Danville Symphony Orchestra with Jack who was a harpist and guitarist. After that she lost the massive ton of weight she gained the previous five years and the two became lifeguards.
Maddie also sometimes spends time with Jack, Maggie and Bob Parr watching some of the superhero shows she didn’t get the chance to watch as children due to her parents encouraging her to intensely study.
Jack
As for Jack, he was always a Danville man at heart. His early life was spent training for the Navy with his cousin Colonel Curtis Contraction, who he was very close with. He enjoyed fresh water swimming with Maddie and Vlad during their honeymoon. This lead to months worth of lifeguard training.
Susan
Susan is the worrier of the cast. Being scared of almost anything there is to be scared and being the first one to be concerned for her friends when they do something potentially dangerous. This concern has also helped when her friends didn’t know they needed it, for example back when Maggie and Debbie still had their children at home, Susan was the first one to bring up the possibility of the children getting themselves into trouble when they were out of their parents’ sight frequently. She is the first person to give good advice when someone is questioning their moral compass and is the most passionate about her interest in anime which she has ample time to share with fellow otakus Maggie and Debbie, which they’ve been doing for 20 years and counting.
This doesn’t mean that she hasn’t also been the first one to receive the short straw at pretty much most things in life. Seemingly for no reason she gets involved in more overworked days, trips over curbs, dilemmas looking after children and random accidents than she knows what to do with. Her close friends however are always there to look after her and help her mentally through it all, especially her closest friend (and possibly more) Debbie Brammeier.

R.E. Seraphin molds tiny shapes into big songs.
Though he’s been on the scene for a while now (with different bands) I hadn’t heard the music of Bay Area musician R.E. “Ray” Seraphin until this year via a cassette called Tiny Shapes via Paisley Shirt Records (more on the label below). His first real band was Talkies, which he discusses below (and I have enjoyed), but he seems to have really come into his own this year with that cassette and a new EP, A Room Forever, which came out just a month or so ago. In his music you’ll hear influences of 80’s jangle pop as well as some deeper post-punk stuff (and for more current stuff I hear whispers of Dean Wareham and his bands and Wild Nothing). Reading below he seems very well grounded and seems to have a great attitude about everything (even not being able to play shows during a pandemic or being in a writing slump). I think once this is all over this guy will go on 5-year tour and gain lots and lots of new fans. In the meantime do check out his stuff, you won’t be disappointed.
Tumblr media
   Where did you grow up?
Berkeley, CA. The area I grew up in was filled with Victorian homes and dilapidated industrial warehouses. My family home was walking distance from a lagoon and an old, rusty set of train tracks. I felt I lived in an unremarkable college town. There wasn't much activity outside of the school. I discovered Berkeley’s storied political and musical history much later in life. Now, of course, there are many books written about Berkeley, but I thought it was a kinda nondescript city as a kid.
Do you remember what band made you fall in love with music?
Dating myself hard here, but I remember being floored by The White Stripes’ “Fell in Love With a Girl” video when I was 11. The Top 40 music making the rounds on VH1 and MTV at the time was beyond dreck — a lot of Train, Staind, Matchbox 20. The White Stripes were the first band I was exposed to that made succinct, catchy, no-frills music. I was genuinely enthralled. Plus, the Lego animation in that video still holds up.
 Was guitar your first instrument?
I started on bass. My first instrument was an extremely cheap, pointy BC Rich knockoff monstrosity. I believe I was 13. I had no idea how to play and little interest in learning. For the first year, I putzed around with a Pro Co RAT, a wah pedal, and a tinny-sounding Crate practice amp. I just tried (and succeeded in) being as obnoxious as possible. When I started writing songs, I eventually graduated from playing bass poorly to playing guitar poorly.
Tumblr media
Tell us about your first band.
My first band that played shows was called The Phil Spector Shotgun Experience. That was primarily a cover band I put together with my high school buddies and my mom. We covered Radio Birdman, the Pink Fairies, and the MC5; we also had an unwittingly hilarious original called “Nitroglycerin Man” — the first song I ever wrote (maybe I was subconsciously inspired by Wages of Fear). At some point, we kicked my mom out of the band and started playing as the Impediments. That band kicked ass — we made pridefully dumb American punk music. That was also my only band to sign a record contract, so it’s quite possibly been downhill from there!
Tell us about The Talkies (unless that was your first band mentioned above).
Talkies (no article!) was a group I started in 2014 as a vehicle for my songs. My previous bands had been more of a shared vision, so Talkies was my first foray into being the lone genius of a group. The sound was mostly drawn from what is disparagingly known as power pop. Basically, I was heavily into the band Shoes for a few years.
We released a few albums and EPs. Did a couple short tours. During that time, the project was dragged from the Bay Area to Austin and back before I finally, mercifully pulled the plug last year. It was time.
When did you transition from Talkies to the solo stuff you’re doing now? Did it feel comfortable?
Talkies had run its course, but I had a smattering of songs leftover from that project that I wanted to record. Around that time, I learned my good friend Jasper Leach (Burner Herzog) was getting ready to skip town. I had always wanted to work with him and, seizing my final opportunity to do so, we banged out my début, Tiny Shapes, last summer. The whole experience was fairly serendipitous. The stars aligned for that one.
I wouldn't say the process was comfortable. Recording the album felt necessary, urgent — almost compulsory at times. My heart was ready for a new project and I truly wanted to center myself for the first time. I’m glad I did. This is the happiest I’ve been musically in some time.

 “I think therefore I am”
I love the songs on A Room Forever. How did they come together?
So glad to hear that! I got asked to contribute to a compilation back in April. With the deadline approaching and inspiration still eluding me, I took a glance at my bookshelf, noticed a particular Carson McCullers title, and whipped up “Clock Without Hands.” After my trusty collaborator Owen Adair Kelley added his parts, I felt we had stumbled upon a great sound. I tried to harness the creative spirit and pushed myself to finish a few ideas buried deep in the recesses of my Voice Memo app. I got friends Matt Bullimore (The Mantles) and Yea-Ming Chen (Yea-Ming & The Rumors) involved, and that was that. No great origin story — just pure American ingenuity and elbow grease.
Tell us about Paisley Shirt Records. Who runs it and how did you hook up with them?
Paisley Shirt Records is simply the man, the myth, the legend — Kevin Linn. He is a San Francisco-based musician and artist who records as Sad-Eyed Beatniks.
I met him when I was looking for someone to release my album, Tiny Shapes. He had just put out a tape by Hits — a great local band featuring some friends of mine — and I felt a kinship with his roster. So, I reached out to him. Foolishly, he agreed to put out my album and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Solid dude. High marks.
Have you done any solo tours? If so where and how did they go?
Ha! No. I had only notched two shows as R.E. Seraphin before the pandemic hit. Likely not doing anything beyond the odd live-stream show for a while. That said, if any tastemaking European touring agencies are reading this — give me a ring!
Tumblr media
The latest EP
What are your top 10 desert island discs?
Ah, jeez. This question. I’ll just say these are 10 (plus one) that I come back to quite often. In no order:
 Marquee Moon by Television
The Everly Brothers’ Best
Forever Changes by Love
Let it Be by The Replacements
Third/Sister Lovers by Big Star
The First Songs by Laura Nyro
16 Lovers Lane by The Go-Betweens
In a Silent Way by Miles Davis
A Different Kind of Tension by Buzzcocks
Something Else by The Kinks
Old No. 1 by Guy Clark
What are a few Bay Area bands that we should know about.
This is a golden-era for weirdo pop music in the Bay. To name just a few: Galore, Cindy, The Umbrellas, Tony Jay, Flowertown, Healing Potpourri, Latitude, Cocktails, The Reds, Pinks, & Purples, Yea-Ming & The Rumors, Anna Hillburg, the 1981, Toner, Frank Ene, Neutrals, Owen Adair Kelley, April Magazine, Telephone Numbers, Hits, Sad-Eyed Beatniks. Essentially every act associated with Paisley Shirt Records and/or Mt.St.Mtn. My bias is strong.
Do you feel that the pandemic has helped your songwriting or hindered it (if either)?
A li’l column A, a li’l column B. I’m a natural procrastinator, so I’ve definitely savored the lack of band practice and shows (things that often necessitate new material). That said, I doubt I would have finished A Room Forever had I not been quarantined at home. Without having many obligations and without being able to leave my house, music definitely became my raison d’être for the first time as an adult. I was fortunate to not be deemed an “essential” worker and to be able to focus energy on my passion momentarily. Silver lining.
What’s next ? A new record by the end of the year possibly?
Hopefully continuing to promote my music and play shows on the ol’ webiverse. A Room Forever will be receiving a small vinyl and tape pressing at the end of September via Mt.St.Mtn. and Paisley Shirt Records. So, looking forward to that.
I was creatively tapped for a few months after A Room Forever. While a new album is possible, it’s not probable. I am plugging away at a few tunes, but I tend to conceptualize albums as a thematic whole and not as a collection of songs. Haven't stumbled onto my next Big Idea yet. Don't count me out, though. I could see myself dashing off a covers album for sure.
What is one song you wish you’d written?
Too many to name! I’ll reframe that question to mean a great song I could see myself capable of writing in an alternate time, place, or dimension. Maybe one of Peter Holsapple’s songs from The dB’s — “Black & White” or “Neverland.” Also: anything by Wreckless Eric or Martin Newell.
 Final thoughts? Closing comments?
Just finished reading an interview with the great James Purdy, and thought this quote summed up iur current political climate well:
“You go out into the world and no one knows you, you can be ruled because you’re programmed. Everything is stamped, put on the shelf, described, thrown out into the garbage. It’s a political process, and behind that an economic process. But to be nothing, that is the worst of all possible things.”

Lina Bo Bardi’s Most Beloved Pieces Come to New York
The multidisciplinary Italian-Brazilian artist Lina Bo Bardi is best known as an architect, most famously of the 1968 São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), a rectangular glass box suspended from two red concrete beams like a kind of Brutalist crab. But she also made radical Modernist furniture. In 1948, not long after she moved to São Paulo from her native Italy, where she had collaborated with architects including Gio Ponti and Carlo Pagani, she founded a furniture studio, Estúdio de Arte e Arquitetura Palma, with fellow Italian architect Giancarlo Palanti. Independently, she continued to create innovative seating and display units for the buildings she designed; in keeping with her communist principles, she liked to shape each aspect of her buildings to encourage accessibility and, in her words, to “fight against the formulaic and routine.”
Among her most influential pieces are the foldable jacaranda-wood chairs she produced for the auditorium at MASP, each of which features an elegant pale leather seat and back that lace up like corsets. One such chair is now on view at a new exhibition, “Lina Bo Bardi & Giancarlo Palanti: Studio d’Arte Palma,” of rare Bo Bardi furniture at Gladstone 64 gallery in New York. Also on display are a swooping iron-and-leather deck chair she created for Casa Valéria Cirell, the rustic shingle-walled home she built for a professor and his family in a tropical suburb of São Paulo in 1964, a mahogany Zig-Zag armchair with a fuzzy animal-hide seat by Estúdio de Arte e Arquitetura Palma and a compact movable wooden chair she designed for the Espírito Santo do Cerrado Church in southeastern Brazil.
Complementing the furniture are works by Bo Bardi’s contemporaries in the Brazilian artists’ collective Grupo Frente, including Lygia Clark and Alfredo Volpi. For Simone Battisti, a partner at Gladstone, the exhibition is all the more exciting because of its setting; the gallery occupies the former home of another Modernist architect, Edward Durell Stone, who in 1956 replaced the facade of the classic Upper East Side brownstone with a geometric concrete grid. His neighbors at the time weren’t pleased, which I imagine Bo Bardi would have enjoyed. On view through June 15 at Gladstone 64, 130 East 64th Street, New York, gladstone64.com — ALICE NEWELL-HANSON
Photographers Take on a New Medium: Cameo
According to the Egyptologist and philologist E.A. Wallis Budge, the word “cameo” derives from the Cabalist word Kame’a, meaning “magical square.” Magic certainly comes to mind when viewing the enchanting new cameos created by the photographers Cindy Sherman and Catherine Opie, who worked with the New York-based collector Liz Swig on a new limited-edition series called “Cameo.” The project consists of nine jewelry pieces — four by Sherman and five by Opie — that will be shown at the Venice Biennale this May and will be available for sale online. The latest project from LizWorks, a platform founded in 2014 by Swig to foster creative collaboration, “Cameo” began after Swig saw Opie’s 2017 exhibition “Portraits and Landscapes” at London’s Thomas Dane Gallery, which included a series of portraits with dark oval backdrops. The photographs reminded Swig of one of the oldest forms of portraiture: the carved cameo. “I was like, ‘Wait a minute!’ Swig says. “Nobody has explored the cameo, maybe ever, in contemporary dialogue and life.”
Soon after, Swig reached out to Opie and Sherman about carving their photographs into curved shells to create unique cameos. For Opie, the project with LizWorks gave her the opportunity to put the art form, which dates back to ancient Greece, in a new context. “When I make a photograph, there’s only five of them out in the world, and I love that there’s this reiteration, or reinterpretation, of a photograph that is not on a gallery or museum or collector’s wall but that it’s out in the world being worn,” she says. Sherman’s cameos transport the most contemporary form of portraiture from the digital into the tangible. She tells T in an email that she had “been looking for alternative ways to transform some of my images from Instagram, since they’re not suitable for regular photographic reproduction. And I like the idea of jewelry as art.”
The cameos were carved by the artisan Gino de Luca, whom Swig met at a jewelry fair in Vicenza, Italy. De Luca is a descendant of a long line of cameo-makers based in Torre del Greco, a town outside of Naples where cameos have been made for centuries. “Cameo” was de Luca’s first encounter with the works of Sherman and Opie, and a chance to modernize his family’s craft. “Within a minute, he just got it,” Swig says of speaking to De Luca about her vision. “He is a magic force, but on this earth.” Price on request, lizworks.net — HILARY REID
A Show on Andy Warhol’s Favorite Subject: Women
In the wake of the Whitney’s landmark Andy Warhol retrospective, “From A to B and Back Again” — the first show of its kind at a U.S. museum in 30 years — New York’s galleries are taking a turn celebrating the artist in their own ways. Sperone Westwater is exhibiting a collection of the artist’s early drawings of people and still lifes of food, handbags and stilettos while, at its upstate satellite in Kinderhook, Jack Shainman will soon open a show of the collaborative paintings Warhol did with Jean-Michel Basquiat. Up at Lévy Gorvy is “Warhol Women,” which, along with some of Warhol’s best-known portraits (Jackie, Marilyn), includes those of Gertrude Stein, Golda Meir and the artist’s mother, Julia Warhola. “It’s such an obvious subject,” says the writer Alison Gingeras, who will contribute an essay to the show’s catalog, of Warhol’s relationship to and reliance on women, “and yet it’s never been fully unpacked in all its complexity.”
That complexity is perhaps most apparent in four images near the gallery’s entrance that a casual observer might dismiss, unwisely, as outliers: These photos, taken over two days in 1981 by Christopher Makos, are of the artist himself in coifed wigs and full makeup. In one, Warhol has been rendered almost unrecognizable, with teased-up Stevie Nicks hair, drawn-on eyebrows and a flirty pose incorporating clasped hands. In another, he channels his most famous subject with an asymmetrical blond wig, a bent knee and arms crossed modestly over his crotch. Though rather than a billowing dress, he wears slim jeans, a white button-up and a plaid tie, as if, below the neck, he’s still Andy. Warhol was deeply fascinated by New York’s drag culture. As far back as the 1950s, he attended clandestine drag salons hosted by the photographer Otto Fenn and made drawings (some of them part of the Sperone Westwater show) based on Fenn’s images. Still, Makos has said that’s not quite what these pictures are about. As Gingeras puts it, “They’re more about undoing gender than performing drag,” adding, “Warhol had an expansive definition of what a woman is.” “Warhol Women,” through June 15 at Lévy Gorvy, 909 Madison Avenue, New York, levygorvy.com — MERRELL HAMBLETON
From Bobbi Jene Smith, a Dance Work Like a Mountain
Since leaving Tel Aviv, where she was a principal with Batsheva Dance Company, in 2014, the Iowa-born Bobbi Jene Smith has been busy choreographing or appearing in one work after another. “With Care,” an elegiac follow-up to her solo “A Study on Effort,” debuted in the fall, and “Deo,” a dramatic staging of the myth of Demeter and Persephone, which Smith cocreated with Maxine Doyle for the Martha Graham Dance Company, premiered last month. But even as she embodies Graham’s definition of the artist as someone who just keeps marching, Smith isn’t much interested in straight, continuous lines. “It’s creation and destruction. You build up and then have to come down, or go down to come up,” she says of her process. Indeed, the symbol of the mountain has become something of a touchstone for her, one that’s directly informed her newest piece, “Lost Mountain,” which will open in New York at La MaMa the weekend of May 16.
In this case, the mountain is not just a metaphor for the artistic struggle but also for the search for meaning in life. To Smith’s mind, one way that meaning can be found is through moments of human connection. “I like the idea of people bumping into each other and, much like the tectonic forces that make the mountain itself, rising up to make something larger,” she says. She will perform the piece with an ensemble of 10 that includes the dancer-choreographer Marta Miller (“I’m pulling her out of retirement for this”); Or Schraiber, Smith’s husband; the violinist Keir GoGwilt; and the Israeli singer-songwriter Asaf Avidan. When we speak, Smith is hesitant to give away too many details but shares that the evening-length work consists of a series of cinematic vignettes, that all of the music will be live and that there will be little separation between art forms. Fittingly, the group is rehearsing at a farmhouse-turned-artist-retreat on a mountain in southern Vermont. Have there been any inspirational hikes, one wonders? “Hopefully next week. It’s been pretty cold,” says Smith. “And we have a lot of work to do.” “Lost Mountain” will open as part of La MaMa’s Moves! Dance Festival on May 16, at the Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 East Fourth Street, New York, lamama.org — KATE GUADAGNINO
Michelle Pfeiffer’s Intoxicating New Scents
The last person I’d expect to create a collection of slightly hallucinogenic abstract contemporary art might be Michelle Pfeiffer. But the perfumes from her new collection, Henry Rose, range from the delightfully disorienting (like a Jeff Koons balloon dog) to the unsettling, like a Spielbergian poltergeist-filled TV screen.
Last Light, one of the five scents, is somehow at once lovely and hopelessly unreachable. Jake’s House is a fresh eau de cologne but smells like it was made in 2042, and so is simultaneously familiar and alarming. Fog is a work of conceptual realism — a shadowy curtain of scent that silently curls around you. (The catch, of course, is that fog has no smell. That makes it an olfactory illusion, an extraordinary trick and a mesmerizing perfume.)
Dark Is Night smells like you’re in a nightclub — you know, nightclub air at 2 a.m.: the scent of aluminum, electricity and perfume with a hint of dark plums drenched in sugared rum. You’re lost; having this many weird olfactory landmarks means you have none. The parts fly at you, fill you up till suddenly. You can’t pass a mental breathalyzer. henryrose.com — CHANDLER BURR

City Lights:  Filled with the shadows and light that make New York special — a sophisticated mix of black sesame, patchouli and balsam.
WoodWick: The Soho candle is infused with black amber with rustic notes of tobacco, musk and mandarin.
Chesapeake Bay Candles: Fall in Central Park’s notes of eucalyptus, conifer and oak moss infuse the autumn landscape with a refreshing aroma, while earthy woods and spicy cardamom bring depth and power to the fragrance.
New York City at Dawn: Flowing with notes of plum nectar, cassis and rose petals that complement the deep shades of pink and purple. A “floriental” base of pink peppercorn, mahogany and amber is rounded by a sophisticated red wine accord.
The Yankee Candle Company has over a 40-year history and is a subsidiary of Newell Brands, selling its products through a North American wholesale customer network of approximately 35,000 store locations.

Two customer reviews on Yelp speak for themselves:
“What a fun experience !!!! My friends and I came here before 11:30 and there were no lines at all. Honestly I was shocked that there was an Instagram worthy setup for free without hordes of millennials standing in lines trying to experience it. The staff at the store we’re extremely nice and helpful. At the front they gave free car air fresheners. At each point they would have us smell different candles and explain their product. They would always offer to take a picture and also gave some great ideas for pictures as well since I’m sure they have seen a lot of attempts already.”
“I’m not a candle person but such a brilliant pop up to get people into it. Totally free and worth the visit and a much better photo op than any exhibit, museum, or new food venue. They have people to help you take photos at each station and are 100% SUPPORTIVE. How great is that?! Along the way they explain some of their candles,

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Coastal Farmhouse
Happy Easter, my friends! I hope you’re being able to enjoy this long weekend surrounded by your loved ones! I’ll be cooking, baking and enjoying quiet time with my family. But before I do that, I wanted to leave you guys with a very special “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” feature.
Jessica of @carcabaroad, along with her husband Jody, designed and build this coastal farmhouse to raise their growing family. They tried to keep costs down while building this beach house and Jessica is sharing a few details about that here on Home Bunch.
Besides being busy raising their four children, they also have FOUR rental properties in Florida and, listen closely, they have renovated or built and designed all of them. How do they do all that? I am sure Jessica hides a “Superwoman” cape somewhere in her closet!
Enjoy this inspiring house tour and now you know whom to contact if you’re planning a vacay in Florida!
Tumblr media
“People often ask how we keep our home so tighty and WHITE with four children. Our home is not always as seen on Instagram, it took days to make the entire home photo ready for the shoot. With endless options in design I tend to play it safe with neutrals and white because you can always add greenery or a pop of color with a rug, its easy to switch up a space once you become bored with it if your base is light. Our house lives well and is most definitely lived in! We make slime, we bake, we build forts, but we also are intentional about our purchases. Lately when we go on a target run we try and ask ourselves “do we need this?” One refreshing thing about moving was simplifying and decluttering and I have tried to keep up with that organization and clean slate. Rather then each kid.coming home with a junk toy, we will buy a family board game or legos, a seasonal craft. something they can do together. Like every child it can a challenge to do chores but we try to make them keep their rooms clean.”
Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Coastal Farmhouse
Welcome to our Florida farmhouse! My husband and I designed and built the 2,900 sq ft 6 bedroom 3 bath home after finding this beautiful 75 by 130 sqft lot in Paradise just a block from the beach and short walk to the intercoastal.

Dream Home

Welcome
Our main goal as a family of 6 with 4 growing children was to build a house with an open floor plan that we could grow along with. I am one of six kids and we did a lot of room changes through our adolescence some of us as siblings would share rooms and then at other ages we would want our own space. I was sure to keep the future in mind while designing this floor plan. We shrunk the sq footage of the bedrooms to maximize living space and added a second upstairs living area. We we’re blessed with a beautiful view and windows and transoms were definitely on our top must haves.

‘Dirty John’ victim recalls daughter screaming she had killed con man
When Debra Newell first noticed John Meehan on a relationship web site in 2014, she was immediately smitten — however the mom of 4 couldn’t have predicted that her whirlwind romance would shortly unravel right into a horrifying nightmare. Newell’s case of affection gone flawed is the topic of an upcoming Oxygen documentary titled “Soiled John: The Soiled Fact.” It options interviews with detectives who labored on the case, a few of Meehan’s former girlfriends and even his first spouse, Tonia Bales. The stunning story was the topic of a smash-hit podcast in 2017 – from Wondery and the Los Angeles Instances – and, extra just lately, in late 2018, Bravo premiered “Soiled John,” a scripted sequence with Connie Britton within the starring position. “I felt that the rationale I participated in all of it, not simply the Oxygen particular, was to get consciousness on the market for different ladies,” Newell informed Fox Information. Newell, who was 4 instances divorced, met Meehan on an over-50 relationship web site. Meehan posed as an anesthesiologist who’d simply returned to Southern California after a 12 months in war-torn Iraq whereas volunteering with Medical doctors With out Borders. Newell, a rich and profitable inside designer prepared for love, was impressed by what she learn and noticed. Let’s simply do it.’ I used to be nervous, apprehensive about doing it, however I did.” Whereas Newell stated she felt herself shortly falling in love with the charismatic physician, her 4 kids weren’t impressed. Actually, one among her daughters employed a non-public investigator to substantiate her fears. It turned out Meehan by no means labored for Medical doctors With out Borders and by no means even attended medical college. What Meehan did have was a felony rap sheet which unveiled he served time for stealing narcotics in hospitals. The Los Angeles Instances reported that from 2005 to 2014, he had “seduced, swindled and terrorized a number of ladies, lots of whom he had met on relationship websites whereas posing as a physician.” Newell stated the report made by the personal investigator was about 324 pages. However I wasn’t seeing numerous it as a result of how he would deal with them once I wasn’t round was very completely different once I was round … he didn’t make an effort to get to know my household, get to know my associates. She additionally went into hiding. “I gave John an opportunity. I additionally had one foot in, and one foot out. I actually wanted to investigate and determine this all out alone,” she recalled. “Once I left I had an exit plan since you don’t stroll away from these males with out one thing violent taking place,” stated Newell. “I had one other cellphone. She didn’t assume,” reported the Los Angeles Instances. “She started flailing, searching for targets. She related, repeatedly. His shoulder. His shoulder blade. His triceps. His shoulder blade. His higher again. His shoulder blade. His higher again. Between his shoulder blades. His forearm. His triceps. His shoulder. His chest.
