When Caroline called you, you didn’t think anything of it. You just thought that she was calling to try and convince you to come to the party at The Grill for the fifth time. When she started shouting at you about Stefan was when you started to get worried.
“What did you say, Care?” You asked. It was hard to hear her over the music in the background.
“One second!” Caroline exclaimed.
You waited a few moments before Caroline spoke again. There was no sound in the background this time.
“Sorry, I had to go outside,” she apologised. “It’s alright. Um, what’d you say about Stefan?” You asked.
“He’s drunk and he needs you to come and pick him up,” she explained.
“Oh,” you frowned. “Well, why can’t you drive him home?” “Trust me, we’ve tried, but…. but he only wants you.”
You couldn’t stop the smile that was spreading across your face. “Oh, really?”
“Well, duh. You’re his girlfriend,” Caroline chuckled.
“Right, right,” you nodded. You got up from your kitchen table, shutting your textbooks and putting them away. “Well, I’ll be over soon.” “Okay, thank you. Also, brace yourself for when you see him. Drunk Stefan is fun, crazy Stefan,” Caroline warned.
You chuckled and went to put your shoes on. “I bet he’s not that bad.”
“Oh, you’ll be surprised. Anyways, I’ll see you soon,” Caroline said.
“See ya,” you hung up the call. You set your phone dying, tying your sneakers. You grabbed your jacket and car keys, about to make your way to your car, but your mom stopped you.
“You going to the party?” She asked. “Um, not exactly,” you started. “Stefan needs to be picked up.”
“Oh, why? Is he okay?” Your mom crossed her arms over her chest.
“Yeah, he’s just had a little too much to drink,” you explained.
“Hm, alright. Well, if you need any help, call me. I know how drunk, horny teenage boys can be,” she chuckled.
“He’s not like that, Mom,” you shook your head. “I know, I know, but you never know,” she tsked.
You gave her a small smile, “I’ll see you later.”
“Text me if you’re staying over at his place!” She reminded.
You nodded in reply and opened the garage door, stepping out and heading to your car. You drove to The Grill, your anxiety spiking as you thought of what Caroline meant. You had known Stefan for almost three years and had been dating him for five months, but you had never seen him drunk. Sure, you’ve seen him tipsy because all Damon and he did for fun was drink, but he always kept his ground. You hoped Caroline was just overreacting.
You parked in the parking lot of The Grill, hopping out of your car and entering the restaurant. You were met with eardrum-rupturing music and the scent of sweat and alcohol. You smiled and greeted a few friendly faces before looking for Stefan. As you walked through the ground, a hand grabbed your forearm. This caused you to jump and spin around your heel, holding up your fist in defense.
“Whoa, calm down. It’s just me,” Jeremy chuckled.
“Oh,” you chuckled and put your fist down, relaxing your body. “Sorry, you just never know.”
“No worries. I take it you’re here for Stefan?” Jeremy asked. “You are correct, Jer,” you nodded.
“He’s playing pool,” he said, leading you over to the back of the room where the rest of your friends were.
You furrowed your brows as Stefan looked pretty normal and relaxed. He actually looked like he was having fun for once. Just as you began to think Caroline was exaggerating, Stefan then drank three shots at once and jumped on top of the pool table.
“O-Oh,” you gasped, your eyes widening in surprise.
“Yep,” Jeremy sighed. He then went in front of you, giving you an encouraging, sarcastic smile. “Have fun!” Jeremy then fled the scene, walking over to a table of girls.
You rolled your eyes and looked back at Stefan, sucking in a breath as you saw Damon and Caroline struggling to get him off the table. You decided that you should go up and help them.
“Oh, thank God!” Caroline exclaimed as you walked over.
“Hey,” you smiled at them. You looked up at Stefan, giving him a soft, caring smile. “Hey, you.”
Stefan looked down, grinning from ear-to-ear once he saw you. “Y/n! You’re here!” He jumped down from the pool table, engulfing you in a tight hug.
You let out an ‘oof’ as you were pulled flush against him. You wrapped your arms round him nonetheless and hugged him back, burying your face into his neck. Your eyes fluttered close as you breathed in his scent. It masked the smell of the sweaty, intoxicated teens that surrounded you two. Stefan pulled away after a few moments, his eyes meeting yours.
“You look so pretty,” he muttered, his hands coming up to cup each sides of your face.
You smiled, “Thank you. Now, c’mon, I’m here to take you home.”
His head started to shake furiously. “No, no. Let’s stay. Let’s party. Let’s have fun.” As he said the last few words, one of his hands went from your face to your waist. He gripped your side, pulling you impossibly closer. As his hand stayed cupping your cheek, his head dove down to your neck where he started to kiss the area under your ear.
You gasped softly, your eyes fluttering close as him kissing your neck made your skin tingle. You put your hands on his chest, though, pushing him back slightly. You looked him straight in the eyes, letting him know that you didn’t come to play.
“We can have fun at home.”
“No, we’re just gonna go to bed,” he whined. “And would that be so bad?” You chuckled.
“Yes because you look so fuckable right now,” he growled. He hooked his fingers in your belt loops, pulling you close to him once again. Your hips met and you gasped as you felt his hard on through his jeans press just next to your core.
“Stefan,” you protested. He looked up at you with big, green, innocent eyes. “Something wrong, sweetheart?”
Heat rose up your neck and you felt like the whole room was watching you. You definitely knew all your friends were.
“We’re in public. We can’t do this,” you shook your head.
“Let’s go somewhere more private then,” he muttered.
Before you could speak, he took you in his arms and sped you out of the restaurant. Your back hit your car once you stopped.
“Sorry, did hurt you?” Stefan asked, concerned eyes looking over you.
“Not, but-” you started, but Stefan cut you ooff by kissing you.
You melted into him, kissing him back with the same amount of need and passion. Your hands went up to his hair, entangling your fingers in his soft locks. Meanwhile, Stefan’s hands roamed your body. His left hand went down to your ass as his right slid under your top, running the pads of his fingers across your skin. He gripped your ass as his fingers went up higher to your bra.
“U-Oh, Stefan,” you gasped in-between kisses.
“I missed you tonight,” he mumbled against your lips.
“I missed you, too, but you’re drunk. We can’t do this. Especially not against my car,” you sighed, pulling back from him once again.
He frowned, “But you’re so pretty. I just want to kiss all over your beautiful body.”
You let out a breathy laugh, trying to slow your racing heart. All the sweet talk and kissing made you very flustered. “Thank you, Stefan. I appreciate it, I really do, but you’re drunk.”
“I can smell your arousal though,” he stated, his fingers coming down your bra to your legs. He ran his fingers over the front of your jeans, pressing down just ever-so-slightly.
“A-Ah!” You squealed. Stefan gave you a satisfied smirk as he pressed down further. More wetness pooled between your legs as he was pressing down on your clit.
“See? Now, tell me you don’t want to do anything.”
You looked him in the eyes, your pupils dilated and full of lust. It took everything in you to shake your head. Because as good as it felt to have his hands on you, you knew that having drunk sex with him was not the best idea.
“I do, but,” you said sternly, “Not right now.”
Stefan hands fell to his side immediately. He stepped away from you, “Then what do you want to do right now?”
“Get you home and in bed,” you stated, reaching for your keys that was in your pocket.
“But that’s so boring! Can we at least, like, make out?” “Nope,” you shook your head.
“When did you ever get so mean,” he pouted. You rolled your eyes with a smile, “I am not mean. I’m being responsible.” “Being responsible is boring!” He objected. “That’s not what sober Stefan would say,” you remarked, turning to open the door.
“Yeah, sober me is boring.”
“And it’s my favourite you,” you smiled, opening the car door. Before Stefan would say anything, you shoved him inside.
“Rough, huh?” Stefan gave you a cheeky smile.
You gave him a long eye roll, shutting the door and walking over to the driver’s side. You stepped in and started your car, ignoring Stefan’s burning stare.
“Why are you ignoring me?” “Because I know you’re gonna try to butter me up and convince me to have sex in this car,” you explained.
Stefan scoffed, “Pfft, what! I would never ever do that.”
“Sure you wouldn’t, lover boy,” you retorted as you started up the car.
Stefan set his hand on your thigh as you started driving. You didn’t move it as this was something he did every car ride whether you were driving or he was, but once he started to inch his fingers up your leg was when you knew you had to say something.
“Stefan,” you wanted. “Yes, honey?” Stefan asked innocently, stopping his hand immediately.
You rolled your eyes with a small smile. You could not believe the games he was playing.
“Nothing,” you muttered, paying attention to the road as you turned into the gates of Stefan’s house.
Stefan grinned as he knew that you would let him get away with anything. As long as it wasn’t actual sex, of course. You both knew a little teasing never hurt anybody, and you both definitely knew you liked it, too. You parked at the entrance, getting out and walking to Stefan’s side. You opened the door, holding your arm out like chivalrous men did on dates.
“Here you are, m’lady,” you grinned. Stefan’s rolled his eyes, “Ha. Ha. Very funny.”
“Oh, I know.”
You held his hand as you walked to his door, unlocking it and stepping inside.
“I’m going to get some water for you and me, go upstairs and get changed,” you directed.  “Yes, ma’am,” he smirked, slapping your ass as you walked by him.
You turned to him, scoffing and giving him a glare. He winked at you and made his way to the stairs. You shook your head with a flustered smile, going to the kitchen and getting a few water bottles. You got out your phone and texted your mom that you were staying the night. You then climbed up the stairs, entering his room and getting even more flustered once you saw him in his bed, the only clothing on him was grey sweats.
“Like what you see?” Stefan teased, putting his hands under his head so his biceps were flexed.
“Very much,” you nodded, walking over to him and setting the water bottles down on the nightstand that was next to his bed.
Stefan put his hand on your waist, pulling you to sit on the bed. You complied and sat down next to his legs, putting your hands on his chest and tracing patterns over his abs.
“You’re so beautiful,” Stefan marvelled at you. His hands went up to your cheek, his thumb running over your cheekbone. You smiled and nuzzled into his hand, looking at him through your lashes.
“And you seem to be a lot more sober now,” you commented.
“Yeah, well, vampires sober up fast,” he shrugged. “Oh, is that so?” You asked
“Yep,” he grinned proudly. “So you don’t have a headache or anything?” You wondered.
His smile faltered and he averted his gaze from you. You chuckled, “Thought so.” You grabbed a water bottle, opening it and putting it up to his lips.
“Here, drink this. I’ll get you some Tylenol,” you said, beginning to sit up.
“I’ll be fine,” he waved his headache off. “Stefan,” you frowned, “I know you’re immune to sickness and death and whatnot, but that doesn’t mean you’re immune to headaches.”
“I’m serious, I’ll be fine. Stop worrying so-” He stopped speaking, closing his mouth immediately. He made a sour face, his eyes widening.
“About to throw up?” You guessed. He nodded his head furiously, putting his hand up to cover his mouth.
“Let’s get you to the bathroom,” you pulled him up, walking him across the hall to the bathroom. You both dropped to your knees and Stefan immediately started to vomit.
You cringed, but rubbed his back nonetheless. “There you go. Get it all out.” Your hand went up to his hair and you twirled his hero hair in-between your fingers. You put your forehead against his temple, kissing his cheek to comfort him.
After a few minutes of him throwing his guts up, he threw his head back and groaned. “I’m so sorry you had to see that.”
“Don’t apologise. It’s all part of being drunk,” you kissed him on the cheek again. You then got up, pulling him up with you.
“Let’s get you cleaned up, yeah?” You hummed, walking him to the sink.
“Yeah, okay,” he nodded.
You looked up at him, running your fingers through his hair. Throwing up had taken a lot of his energy, and now he was all worn-out. He went to grab his toothbrush, but missed by a few millimeters.
“Why don’t I do it for you,” you stated more than suggested.
“No, no. You’ve done enough tonight, take a break,” he shook his head.
You smiled, “It’s okay. I like taking care of you. It’s kind of my job as your girlfriend, after all.”
He smiled sheepishly. “Yeah, I guess.”
You nodded and hummed in reply, turning him around so his back was against the sink. You took his toothbrush and and squirted toothpaste on it, stepping in front of Stefan and holding it up.
“Open wide,” you sang. Stefan followed your orders and your stuck the toothbrush in his mouth, beginning to circle over the left side of his mouth.
Stefan’s arm went around your waist, pulling you closer to him lazily. You smiled as your hips met his. You leaned into him, switching the sides of his mouth that you were brushing after a minute.
“Alright, time to spit,” you ordered.
Stefan turned around, spitting the out the foamy toothpaste. He hung his head low to get some water to swish in his mouth to get the remaining toothpaste out. He sat back up and you put his toothbrush back on the sink. You grabbed a towel and wet it to wipe off the excess toothpaste that was on the corners of Stefan’s mouth.
You straightened back up and went in front of Stefan, running the towel over his lips. You moved slowly, your eyes roaming his face. He looked so handsome, even when he was sweaty and slightly disoriented from just throwing up. Your eyes wandered up to his, his green eyes stared at yours back. The deep, unwavering eye contact both made you two flustered and nervous. Butterflies swarmed in your stomach while the tips of Stefan’s ears turned pink.
You lowered the towel, placing it back onto the sink counter. Your eyes never left Stefan’s as you did so. Shivers ran up your spine as Stefan’s hand snaked up to the small of your back. He pulled your chest closer to his, leaving little to no room between your lips and his.
“I thought you were all tired and tame,” you muttered, your eyes flickering down to his lips and back up to his eyes.
“I’m never tired and definitely never tame when I’m around you,” he whispered, leaning in.
You hummed in reply, fluttering your eyes close as you leaned up to kiss him. You wrapped your hands around his neck, taking a fist full of his hair and twirling it. You kissed him slowly and gently, each of you taking your time to savour the feeling and taste of the kiss.
You pulled away after a few moments, setting your forehead against his. You licked your lips, staring into Stefan’s green eyes.
“Let’s get you into bed,” you whispered.
Stefan shook his head, a coy smile playing on his lips. Before you could scold and protest, he lifted you up from your waist and ran over to the bed. He threw you down, climbing on top of you.
“Stefan!” You giggled. “What?” He asked.
“We have to go to bed,” you said. “We are in bed,” he gestured to the pillows.
You rolled your eyes, “Stop being a wise ass. You’re still drunk, whether you want to admit it or not.”
“I’m half-drunk,” he shrugged. “Really? That’s the best you could do?” You snorted.
“You know me, anything to be able to have sex with you,” he grinned.
“Mhm, well, nothing can sway me and you know it.” Stefan looked into your eyes, studying you for a little. He knew that no matter how much kissing, touching, sweet-talking he did, you wouldn’t give in. He decided to give up and cuddle, which was honestly what he needed after a long, tiring night. He got off of you, laying on his back.
“Seems like you’re learning,” you remarked.
“Well, I know that if I’m good, I’ll get a reward later,” he quipped.
You chuckled, turning around so now your face was met with his. You propped yourself on your elbow, putting a hand on his chest.
“You’re lucky, you know?” You said.
“Yeah,” he sighed with a smile, “I know.” “Yeah, well, so am I,” you smiled, moving closer to him. You gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and laid back down on your back.
Stefan rolled over and he laid his head on your chest, wrapping his arms around your middle. You smiled contently and ran your fingers through his hair, massaging his scalp.
“Thanks for taking care of me,” Stefan mumbled.
“No problem. I love you,” you said.
“I love you, too,” he sighed, closing his eyes and falling asleep.

A Million Dreams - Chapter 8
Tumblr media
She awakened slow then all at once to a barrage of delicate kisses scattered across her bared shoulder in random patterns, contrasting the solid presence of his hand.
Beyond the flutter of white curtains a thin band of pale light hugged the earth in soft proclamation of the new day.
Rough stubble scratched supple skin. An exquisite ache picked up between her thighs, throbbing with each beat of her heart. A ravenous need overtook her.
Her legs parted, creating more than enough space for his fingers to press against the damp cloth of her ruined panties.
She groaned low in her throat.
Wth clumsy movements she managed to curl her fingers around his wrist. His husky voice curled down her spine.
“I want you.”
He pressed the length of his need against the curve of her backside.
She returned his motion on instinct and turned her hips in a slow circle.
He bit her shoulder in response.
She gasped and rolled her hips again, connecting first with his fingers and then his erection.
He soothed the mark with his tongue.
Her lashes fluttered open, allowing her a second glimpse of sky.
“There’s no time.”
“We have nothing but time,” he murmured, catching her ear between his teeth.
The earnest promise of ‘forever’ urged her to flip over and capture his wicked tongue with her teeth. Had they possessed no responsibilities beyond each other she might have.
“We have forever for this,” she sighed, shifting back and forth a final time before raising his hand. She kissed his palm and then his wrist. “We have until dawn’s end to break your curse. Is that not what you want?”
He rose on his elbow and met her eyes.
“The only thing I want more is you and our daughter.”
“You already have me,” she murmured, nudging his nose, “and soon we shall have her, but this morning I can give you your magic.”
“I do want that, my love. I know you can do it,” he dragged his finger through the air a millimetre from her cheekbone. “I also know that the moment you break my curse you will break Finn’s. Everyone shall know within seconds and we shall spend the day answering a million questions from our family and your friends. Rebekah will lay claim to her beloved sister and another moment alone for days.”
“I’m sure Bekah will understand when I tell her my nights are yours.” She let go of his hand to hold his cheek, rough beneath her palm, and shivered again. “Those questions and confrontation should be dealt with sooner rather than later. At least that’s what I think. If things get a chance to fester they’ll simply barge in on us and demand answers.
I’d rather not add my friends to the list of people who have seen me naked.”
“They wouldn’t…”
“You don’t know Caroline very well yet,” Elena smirked. “Trust me she would. Now can I get up and put on clothes? As it is your going to have to carry me to the site.”
“One more moment I get to hold you,” he teased.
Elena rolled her eyes and tossed back the covers. She rose to her feet and watched from the corner of her eye as he did the same, drinking in the coil of each muscle.
“Hey, Kol?” Her fingers skimmed her hip bones.
“Yes, my love?” He raised an eyebrow.
She appraised the length of his body, pausing to appreciate the black boxer briefs and abdominal muscles she planned on putting to use soon. Goosebumps rose on her naked thighs.
“What happened to our pants?”
He retrieved her dark wash jeans from the floor at the foot of the bed, smirking as he rose to his full height.
She sincerely hoped they hadn’t engaged in anything during the night. It wasn’t that she had any objections to sleepy, middle of the night, sex with her husband; making love in the moonlight with only enough awareness to take in each other was wonderful. As was waking with the satisfaction from an orgasm and only the haziest of memories surrounding it.
She held no objections to gentle love-making in the dead of night; she just wanted their first time together again to be memorable. Hopefully not ‘Rebekah bursting in on us’ memorable, but something she clearly remembered.
“You woke around midnight, though I’m not certain I should call it awareness,” he chuckled, handing her the denim. “You then spent several minutes attempting to shimmy out of these before I took over. I understand why you desired them off now.”
“Jeans aren’t exactly comfortable,” she murmured as she pulled them back on. She held zero desire to hunt for fresh clothes when her jeans were perfectly clean. “What happened to your pants?”
“Ah,” he chuckled, fastening his belt. “You attempted to wrap yourself around me and decided you disliked the material. You struggled with my belt until I stood and removed my trousers. Then you curled around me and almost immediately fell back to sleep.”
She nodded and hummed, reaching into her closet for a soft white sweater. “Next time I’m that tired remind me to put on pyjamas, or just strip me naked.”
“I’m a fan of the latter.”
“Bet you are…” she rubbed at her eyes and stifled a yawn.
“Will you be needing this Elena?”
She looked over her shoulder where he held out her bra and shook her head.
“Polite society would say yes, my desire for comfort says no.” She put on the large sweater, letting it fall to mid thigh. “I’ll put one on after the spell. With any luck I’ll have time to shower before Elijah walks in.”
“Why Elijah?”
“He’s got an invitation,” she shrugged. “Personally I’m hoping nobody bursts in, but that’s too much to ask.”
“Elijah has a little more tact than that.”
“Four hundred years dead and then I show up and kill Esther? The only reason he’s not already here is because of the instructions I gave. He’ll follow them to the letter until Bonnie seals the tomb, or Nik compels her to never leave.”
She didn’t realize she had slipped to the old nickname until after she said it. She wasn’t sure what her hesitation was, or where it stemmed from. In truth he had acted exactly as she planned for him to. Being reborn within her own bloodline had been about more than luring her family to her. She sought true Petrova blood so he could break his curse. He wasn’t meant to go for Jenna though. The plan had been Katerina who would have been easy enough to find once she remembered her magic and how to use it.
Really, she could blame Katerina for almost everything that had gone wrong. But how was she supposed to know the doppelbitch would muck up her plans?
“And I love Caroline, but she had absolutely no tact. Neither does Damon. He’d march into the bathroom and demand answers through the shower curtain.”
“I swear I’ll keep people out of your bathroom.”
“Here I was thinking you’d join me in the shower,” she teased, reaching for her coat.
He followed her down the stairs. A choking sound drew their attention towards the kitchen where a man sputtered over a cup of coffee.
“Morning,” Elena cleared her throat.
He got his breathing under control and looked swiftly from her to him. “Who the hell are you?”
“Ric, it’s me,” she took a small step towards the kitchen, “Elena. The face you knew was a glamour, but it’s gone now.”
“I know it’s you Elena,” he rolled his eyes. “I’ve seen through that glamour since the first time I was killed. I was talking about him.”
“Oh,” she rocked back on her heels. “Does that mean Jeremy could see me too?”
“Probably,” Alaric frowned. “My question? I might be new to this guardian gig, but I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to let strange men be in your bedroom before dawn.”
“Don’t worry, mate, I’m no stranger.”
She heard the smirk in his voice.
“Kol, this is my legal guardian, technical step—father, and almost uncle Alaric Saltzman,” she waved towards the kitchen. “Ric, this is Kol Mikaelson…”
Alaric’s eyes widened on the last name. Her next words threatened to make them budge straight out of his head.
“He’s my husband.” His mouth opened and closed a few times. “I can see you want answers, and I swear I’ll tell you and Jeremy everything later, but right now I have to go do a spell.”
She reached for the door and walked outside. At the bottom of the steps she froze, eyes drawn to the dark figure in the driveway; he moved into a beam of light.
“Jeremy?”
“Hey,” he called in a tired voice, adjusting his duffle bag. “Who’s that?”
Before she could answer a strangled cry came from inside the house.
“Husband?!”
Jeremy’s eyes widened.
“Tell you later, Jer. We gotta go.”
Kol had swept her into his arms, taking off before Jeremy could utter a word. The world whipped by in muted colours of brown and green; she closed her eyes to combat her sudden motion sickness, resting her head on Kol’s shoulder until he stopped moving.
A thousand years earlier the desolate spot housed the white oak that gifted them immortality while threatening to yank it away. In the twenty-first century only the - and she almost laughed thinking the word - cauldron remained atop a large stone.
The remnant of an ancient fire pit beckoned. In silence Kol gathered wood and created a neat pyramid; she lit it with a thought, making a mental note to locate another hand of glory and soon.
She unfolded the spell and laid out the two stones that thrummed with held energy, catching his amused eye over the flames; his mouth quirked upwards in a familiar smirk.
“What?”
“You have a lot of explaining to do.”
“I know,” she worried her bottom lip.
A streak of sunlight lit the forest floor, staining her fingers. Shadow passed over a split second before his hand held hers.
His lips brushed over her temple, words caressing her skin.
“Anyone who can’t accept you for who you are is a fool. It’s their loss if they let you slip through their fingers; I certainly won’t be doing that again.”
She allowed a second to accept the comfort but no more time as dawn surrounded them. With both hands extended over the stones she closed her eyes and began to chant.
The energies pulsed in their prison, straining to reach out to her.
++++
“How exactly is she meant to stay put?” Rebekah crossed her arms, tapping her foot in the middle of the pentagram. “I don’t put much faith in Nik; he’ll have us all rotting in coffins again before we can blink.”
“Had you refrained from interfering this would have all been over by now,” Esther pressed her hands to the barrier. The simple spell would only last until the next moonrise.
“The casual manner in which you discuss the premeditated murder of your own children shocks me.” Elijah’s hands clenched in his jacket pocket, cutting white half crescents across his palms.
Dark veins writhed beneath her eyes in pathological response to Bonnie’s blood still dripping from her fingertips.
“You have all lived too long.”
“I haven’t lived at all,” Rebekah shrieked, gathering the full attention of her brother’s. Elijah and Klaus had the decency to lower their eyes, ashamed in part for the actions taken to protect her over the centuries.
Bonnie shifted on her heels. She tipped her chin up a fraction and glanced through the corner of her eye to Caroline.
“I feel like we’re getting a little off topic.”
“Miss Bennett is correct,” Finn cleared his throat, nodding in her direction. “We need a method for permanently securing mother, lest she attempt to remove every vampire from the world again.”
“Perhaps you should not be privy to this conversation,” Klaus’ growled, tone dripping malice, “considering how eager you were to work with her.”
“When I thought her plans were to kill us,” his eyes narrowed, “she never mentioned that our deaths would result in the deaths of everyone.”
“And that should make a difference to you?”
“As a matter of fact it does. You left me to rot. You all left me to rot for 900 years. Why should I not want you dead for that?”
“If you are so angry why help Elena?” Klaus’ eyes flashed gold.
“Call it an assured sense that she had no part in leaving me to that fate.”
“He’s got a point,” Rebekah shifted, resisting the urge to hold her hands against her stomach. From the moment Caroline revealed Esther’s intentions a knot formed deep inside. Her own mother - a woman who should love them all without condition - desired their deaths. She wanted to vomit.
“She never removed the dagger.” Klaus snapped.
“Only because you threatened Kol,” she murmured.
Caroline glanced at Bonnie and then the Originals, standing around various points of the pentagram. Sunlight streamed through the whole above their heads. Thankfully it was the weekend so she wouldn’t have to come up with an excuse to excuse her extracurricular activity of locking up a psycho witch.
“Is it just me, or could all of you really benefit from some therapy?”
“Care, this is probably the most dysfunctional family in history,” Bonnie bit down her smirk, “they’d send any therapist running for the hills. We’d find the poor shrink half mad and muttering about the nice practice they used to run.”
“We’re not that bad, love,” Klaus rolled his eyes.
Caroline arched an eyebrow and raised her hands, ticking off a handful of problems with a raised finger.
“Mommy issues, daddy issues, infanticide, at least one massacre, daggers…”
“Are you quite finished?”
“No,” she lifted her eyes to Klaus. “You also murdered your brother’s wife… twice.”
The fire in his gaze extinguished in a wave of guilt and grief. She caught herself before she could do something stupid, like give him a hug.
“Any therapist would have to be compelled,” Elijah’s voice broke through the sudden silence.
Rebekah nodded her agreement. “It’s much easier, and more satisfying, to remove internal organs. Maybe a few limbs.”
“We’re you always like this?” Caroline crossed her arms and tilted her head. In her peripheral vision Finn stiffened.
The question took the siblings by surprise. Rebekah glanced towards her brothers then shook her head.
“We’ve grown more violent these last few centuries,” she admitted.
“Why?” Bonnie scuffed her heel on stone.
“Vampires are a scourge, a disease on this earth…”
“And now you’re one of them,” Bonnie snapped, patience breaking thin. “Being a vampire doesn’t automatically make a person a monster. And even if it did nature has had a thousand years to adjust. You can’t just wipe out a species and expect everything to go back to normal. That kind of imbalance could destroy the world, and it’s not exactly in a good spot right now to handle extra destruction.”
“Will nothing you see convince you that my spell, made in error, must be corrected?” She snarled, beating against the barrier. “You have watched the destruction they’ve caused from life and through the veil of the Other Side, yet you persist in resisting me.”
“What are you talking about?” Bonnie took a small step back, unnerved by the venom in the older witch’s eyes.
“You were there at the beginning. You witnessed everything in between. And it was your magic meant to aid in the end, as it did at the start.”
“Wait a second,” she held out her hands, palms up, “are you saying I was alive in the tenth century?”
“Well, at this point we’ve established that past lives are a thing,” Caroline’s eyes narrowed. “How many witches lived here?”
“Mother, Finn, Kol and Elena, Ingvar and…” Elijah trailed off, casting a questioning glance in his mother’s direction. “Ayana?”
“Ayana?” Rebekah paused when she saw Finn lean heavily on the wall, but focused her attention on the young witch. “Ayana reborn in the same place as Elena? And both of them in their own bloodlines?”
“Coincidence?” Caroline suggested.
“I don’t believe in coincidences,” Rebekah tilted her head.
“And I don’t believe you were all violent because you were vampires,” Bonnie rolled her eyes, making a note to ask Elena about Elijah’s theory later. “Why the shift?”
“In short?” Rebekah fiddled with the end of her scarf. “We lost Elena. She had a very… human influence on us.”
“The girl who slaughtered a coven of witches?”
“Her massacres were few, one really,” she pursed her lips. “And she turned after we learned how to compel. Killing to survive was never a necessity for her, and as such she did not begin her new life forced to desensitize herself to violence.”
“We are once again veering off topic,” Klaus cleared his throat. “How are we to keep her in their permanently? Compulsion can always be broken; even fought through if one’s mind is strong.”
“What about speeding up desiccation?” Elijah suggested.
“That’s no good; I would have to stop a human heart for that.”
“You know this how?” Klaus turned his attention to the young witch.
“It’s how Abby stopped Mikael.” Her fingers dug into her upper arms. “We need a boundary spell that won’t break. Something nearly impossible to break. When Emily sealed the tomb she used a comet. Are there any set to fly over head soon? I don’t want to use the full moon; it comes around to often.”
“You might try binding the boundary to an immortal who can’t die.”
Almost in unison, everybody looked up, searching the bright opening for the source of the voice.
“Rather ingenious, darling.”
“What can I say? I’m still a prodigy.”
“That you are.”
The air shifted as Kol leapt down with Elena in his arms, bending his knees to absorb the impact.
She released a huff of air and rolled her eyes, pushing her hair from her face.
“You know, there were stairs?” She waved beyond Klaus to the stone steps.
“Yes, but you’re fully capable of walking down stairs. And as we both know I’ll look for any excuse to hold you.”
Rebekah made a gagging noise and a show of checking her watch.
“It only took them a night to become nauseating.”
“We should have placed bets,” Elijah snickered.
“You all would have lost; they were nauseating when we were down in the tunnels.” Caroline scoffed.
Elena set her feet on the floor. An exasperated sigh escaped, undercut with fondness, when Kol snaked his arms around her waist. “You’re going to be really clingy for a while, huh?”
“At least a century,” he hummed, fingers splayed over her abdomen.
“She’ll be sick of you within a year,” Rebekah shook her head.
“I’m not worried,” Elena grinned, “his attention’s gonna be split pretty soon.” Her eyes roamed the room to settle on Finn, staring into his palm as the other touched the stone wall in something close to reverence. “Alright there Finn?”
The call of his name broke him from his thoughts. He lifted his eyes to focus on her, wonder glimmering in the depths of his gaze; she would have to show him that stolen memory soon.
“What have you done?”
Smugness tightened her expression that she turned towards Esther.
“The question is: what did I undo?” Her smile turned soft for Finn. “Turns out we were all missing a few memories.”
She noted the glaring absence in the lack of screaming.
“Where are Stefan and Damon?”
“They went looking for you,” Bonnie turned to face the couple, “about an hour ago.”
“Ugh,” she shut her eyes, dropping her head on Kol’s shoulder, “they’re gonna be in my living room.”
“I could…”
“You’re not killing my ex-boyfriend and his brother,” she lightly smacked Kol’s hand.
“What about maiming?”
“No.”
“Just one blow?”
“Kol…”
“The man slept with my wife,” he squeezed her waist.
“And your sister,” Caroline coughed.
“Not helping, Care.” A shudder went through Elena, rocking her from head to toe.
“Helping?” Caroline scoffed. “Who said anything about helping? I’m involved solely for the drama, plus I kinda wanna see Damon get his ass handed to him.”
“Damon?” Kol frowned. “I believed Stefan to be the former lover.”
“He is,” Caroline grinned. Darkness passed behind her eyes. “Damon’s been trying to get in her pants since he came to town. I’ll bet he’s still gonna try. He’s obsessive.”
“Should he try he’ll learn very fast just how possessive Kol can be,” Rebekah rolled her eyes. “And I don’t want you killing Stefan either.”
“I suppose if they understand what they can and cannot have I could leave them be, but I reserve the right to strike back should they attempt to come between my lovely bride and I.”
Elena rolled her eyes.
“I haven’t been a bride in a thousand years.”
“You’re as lovely now as you were then.”
“But not a newlywed.”
“Then explain why everything feels so wondrously new.” His nose skimmed her throat.
“That would be your newly returned magic,” she giggled.
“Your explanation fails to account for last night, or the one before.”
“Get a bloody room!” Rebekah crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
Kol smirked, lifting his head from where he had laid a kiss on her soft skin.
“We intend to,” he stepped back from Elena reluctantly, gesturing towards the tomb with all the care he would have taken to wave off a troublesome fly, “just as soon as mother is permanently sealed in that one.”

"And what happened to yours?" She asked as she walked through the door that he held open for her to enter the boardinghouse.
"I don't know, I guess I just misplaced it," He offered and she knew it was a lie, just as she knew that he knew that she knew it was a lie. Yet he still told it with such ease.
"Fine, then it would make more sense for me to do a locator spell-"
"No!" He cut off that idea and the tone of the simple word made Bonnie Bennett turn and squint her eyes at her best friend Damon Salvatore.
"Why not, Damon?" She asked as she folded her arms across her chest to prepare herself to hear of some nonsense, he had gotten himself into … AGAIN.
"Because it's not important, and besides I've been meaning to upgrade it anyway," Damon continued to lie as he walked over to the bar to fix himself a drink.
"Uh-huh, you know what, I don't have time for this today. I really don't," Bonnie announced as she unfolded her arms and raised her hands in surrender. "So, if you aren't going to tell me the truth then I won't help you," With that said she turned to walk back out.
"Wait, you're just gonna leave?" He asked a bit stunned that she wasn't more eager to help him as she typically was. "I have been stuck in this house all day, dying until you finally got out of your classes."
"First of all, you're already dead," Bonnie said with a smile to which Damon raised his brow and smirked at her. "And secondly … what the fuck happened to your ring, Damon?"
"Fine," He grumbled out as he smacked his empty glass back on the countertop and poured another drink. "I had a friend over and I think they might have picked it up by accident."
"Sooo, you had a girl over last night and she robbed you before she snuck out? And I don't even want the details on how she managed to get it off your finger without you knowing," Bonnie elaborated on what likely really did happen. "Why was that so hard for you to say, like over the phone?"
Damon thought on her question for a second. Why didn't he want to tell her the truth? He came to the conclusion that the fact of the matter was that out of anyone he knew, Bonnie Bennett's opinion of him mattered most. Also, if he were to be completely honest with himself, he felt like he was betraying her by having female acquaintances in his bed. He held some slight guilt with regards to Elena as well, but with Bonnie he just didn't want her to know about it.
"C'mon Bon-Bon help your old pal…"
"Actually, it's really only been about a year and a half since we've started our friendship," She countered as she feigned disinterest as she looked over to the huge fireplace where a fire brewed.
"And your very best friend in the world," He continued choosing to ignore but still smiled at her comment.
"I'd say that's kind of a toss-up between Caroline and Elena," She threw in knowing that that was actually a lie. Damon really had become her very best friend is such a short time, and she knew that he knew it too. She also knew that she was his. They had finally gotten to a point where they both truly cherished their friendship. They were bonded though neither would ever be able to tell anyone when that had actually happened nor how.
"Will you help me? Or will I have to find some second-rate witch who will likely screw it all up, and I will end up dying a very painful and fiery death," Damon said dramatically but knew it would rile Bonnie up and give her cause for concern. The one thing you could rely on with Bonnie was her concern for the people she cared most about. She had literally died to save her friends. But as he watched the way she pulled at her bottom lip he suddenly regretted using that threat to manipulate and scare her. "C'mon Bonnie we both know you're gonna help me. So, why do we have to do this song and dance?"
"Because once upon a time it was fun," She replied. "You know, you needing something from me, me making you beg me for it. Things between us have gotten very boring since we've become friends."
"I'm sorry. Do you want me to start hating you again? Because we're heading that way today," Damon mumbled out as he took a sip of his bourbon. She simply rolled her green eyes before she locked them onto him.
"Please, you've never really hated me, not even back when we were sworn enemies, and you know it," She stated and he raised his glass a bit to salute her very true statement. "Fine, let's do this so I can leave and go enjoy the rest of my day. I do have a life you know and it doesn't revolve around you."
"You sure about that?" He teased.
"Oh, so you don't want my help then?" She retorted as she again turned towards the door. He settled his empty glass on the bar top and stepped over to her and blocked her exit.
"Yes, I do want your help, Bonnie," He spoke as he grasped her about her shoulders. "Please save me. Make me a new daylight ring so that I'm not stuck in this house all day, every day."
"Fine," She agreed and he pulled her into his embrace, leaned down, quickly kissed the top of her head, and then released her. "Do you have a photo that clearly shows you wearing the ring?"
"Uhm," Damon thought as he glanced around the room. "Nothing recent I don't think."
"Doesn't have to be recent, it just has to show you wearing the ring," Bonnie stated and flinched a bit as Damon flashed away and then back to her just as quickly. He held out a photo of himself. Bonnie took it and studied the slightly faded photo of Damon with a group of people at what looked to be at some fancy party. "Wow, look at you, looking so suave and debonair. A tux looks good on you. When was this taken?"
"Back in the late 50s, early 60s. What I like to call the dark ages."
"Why?"
"I had turned off my humanity and was out for revenge. I killed every single person in that photo just because the party started to get boring to me," He stated nonchalantly but Bonnie could still hear the regret in his voice as she lifted her eyes to his.
"Well, you have your humanity turned on now and granted you can be a real asshole sometimes, you're not like this Damon anymore," She said as she tapped the picture. "Now, give me your hand," She commanded and he bunched up his brow a little in confusion but still placed his hand into her offered one. Damon stared down at his hand wrapped inside of hers and he found that he liked how their different skin tones complemented each other. It was a beautiful combination. And for a split second, a flash of other parts of their bodies entwined crossed his mind. He quickly shut them out and then shot his eyes up to Bonnie's face to gauge if she had somehow read his impure thought, but found that she had her eyes closed and her mouth mumbled out some chant. She then snapped her eyes opened and looked up at his as a smile spread across her face. Damon discovered a while back that he loved to see Bonnie smile, and loved it, even more, when he was the reason for her smile. She turned over his hand which she still held, he looked down at his hand and was shocked to see his ring was back where it was supposed to be. "You're welcome, and try not to lose that one. I'll see you later," Bonnie spoke out as she was already in the foyer making her way to the front door.
"Hang on," Damon called out to her as he flashed after her and put himself between her and the front door. "Now that I am able to leave the house let me buy you lunch as a way to say thank you," He offered but she shook her head at the idea.
"You only need to say, 'Thank you, Bonnie' to thank me, Damon," She stated as she smirked up at him.
"Thank you, Bonnie," He complied.
"You're welcome, now I really have to go," She added as she tried to push him from the door but he wouldn't budge as he cocked his eyes at her curiously.
"And why do you really have to go? What kind of plans do you have, maybe I could join-"
"No!" She quickly interjected. "My plans are my business and sorry but you cannot join me today."
"Why not?"
"Damon."
"Bonnie?"
"Would you please move so I can leave?" She asked as she smacked his chest but with no real force behind it.
"Have you met a … boooy?" He asked in a teasing manner but the thought of it did irk him. Bonnie groaned a bit as she rolled her eyes at him.
"I am not having this conversation with you, Damon. Besides, it's none of your business anyway."
"Huh, so it's someone I clearly would not approve of?" He declared as he folded his arms across his chest, leaned back more comfortably against the door, and squinted is eyes a bit as he stared down at Bonnie.
"You don't approve of anyone I date," Bonnie replied as she flailed her arms a bit in exasperation. "And you give the worse dating advice."
"All the guys you've dated are idiots and so beneath you. Don't even get me started on 'Jeremy Gilbert'," Damon countered. "And I give you excellent dating advice."
"Anytime I ask for your advice about a guy I like you always say the same thing, 'He sounds like a loser, Bonnie, dump him'," She countered as she now folded her arms across her chest.
"So, you don't want my true and honest advice then?"
"I want you to act like my best friend looking out for my best interest, and not act like some…jealous boyfriend," She mumbled out the last bit as it dawned on her in that moment that that was exactly how Damon acted whenever it came to her dating. And she could tell by the look in his eyes that he realized it too. "Look, I have a coffee date with a 'friend', who just happens to be a guy. We will likely hang out for an hour maybe two, and then I will come back here and we can have a movie night, okay?"
"Oh, good golly," Damon gasped out sarcastically as he clutched his hands together in front of him. "And can we braid each other's hair and do each other's make-up too?" He then batted his lashes for effect. Bonnie couldn't stop the giggle that was pulled from her at his antics.
"Fine asshole, forget it then," She cursed at him even though she was smiling. "I was just trying to show you that I can still be present in your life, be here for you even if I start a relationship with someone else."
"Yeah, easy for you to say when the said relationship is just hypothetical," Damon huffed out and Bonnie knew it was time to come clean.
"It's not hypothetical," She said as she averted her eyes to the floor, while Damon scowled at her. "I've been seeing Enzo for about a month now, and things are kind of getting serious," Damon's look of confusion turned to disgust as he frowned up.
"Enzo? Wait, 'my' Enzo?" He questioned and this brought a frown to Bonnie's face.
"God, I hope not," She replied. "You two never…" She let the question hang there and Damon took a moment to reflect and think on it before he replied.
"No, we were just locked up together and tortured for half a decade together. We bonded and grew closer during that time, but never 'that' close."
"Good to know. Look, we've only gone on a few dates … every night … for the past …month," Bonnie finally confessed and she could see Damon tighten his jaws as the muscles started to twitch. She knew that he was really pissed and she didn't fully understand why. "I know that he's your best guy friend and I'm your best female friend…"
"Bonnie, you're my bestie, your card trumps his."
"Really?" She cooed as she had sometimes wondered about that very thing. "Aww, thanks, Damon."
"But Enzo is also a friend and I don't know that I like you dating him," He stated honestly.
"Well, Damon, I'm not asking your permission nor do I need it," Bonnie announced as she rolled her neck a bit at his audacity.
"You're absolutely right, Bonnie," He said doing a complete 180 and made Bonnie look at him confused.
"I am?" She asked as she watched him move from in front of the door and then opened it for her.
"Yes, you are," He contended as he placed his hand on the small of her back and then ushered her across the threshold and out the door. "Now, you go and have a fun coffee date with Enzo."
"Damon, what's going on?" Bonnie asked as she turned and regarded him suspiciously. Rarely did he give up so easily when they had one of their many disagreements.
"Nothing. You seem to think that I meddle in your relationships too much and give you piss poor advice about men. So, this time I shall stay out of it, out of respect to the fact that you and Enzo are probably the only two true friends I have. So, if you two have somehow found happiness with each other well then, I am truly very happy for you, and I shall stay out of it."
"Are you planning to crash in on our date?"
"No." He answered fat-of-fact which only made her wearier.
"Oh God, you're planning to kill him," She stated and he had to roll his eyes and pretend that she was being ridiculous when really that the thought had played in his mind.
"And you call me a drama queen," Damon said. "No, Bonnie, I promise you that I am not gonna impose on your date with Enzo, nor am I going to kill him. Now, go have fun and we can have our movie night some other time."
"O…Okay," She stuttered out as she turned and began to walk to her car, but then she stopped and turn back to him a couple of times before she spoke again. "You sure you don't want me to stop back by later and we can just hang out?" A part of her felt somewhat guilty over the fact that he now knew she had sort of, kind of been dating his friend Enzo and had not told him.
"Bon-Bon, you know this door is always open to you, anytime, day or night," He proclaimed. "But I think I might go out tonight and paint the town red."
"Not with the blood of the innocent I hope?" She replied with a hint of true concern in her voice, which he took note of.
"Bonnie Bennett, you really need to get laid," He tossed out jokingly but also to test the waters to see where she was in this relationship with Enzo. Knowing would help him determine how badly he would have to hurt the man he once thought of as his best friend.
"Well, if I'm lucky and if Enzo plays his cards right, maybe I will," She said around a giggle and then she opened the door to her car, got in, cranked it up, and then drove away without even a wave goodbye. She knew that her last reply had been a complete lie just to get under Damon's skin, Sure she could admit that she did enjoy the time she had been spending with Enzo but it was all very much platonic and she knew that it would not likely ever develop into something romantic. Although, she was sure Enzo was hoping it would. But something inside of her screamed to her that he just was not the one, and she always listened to that voice within.
Damon held the smile on his face until Bonnie had driven off. He then moved back into the boardinghouse, grabbed his coat from the coat rack, and then flashed through the house and out the back. He went out in search of Enzo to let him know under no uncertain term was Bonnie to be another notch on his bed, like the pretty little brunette they had both partied with the night before, who had ended up going home with Enzo.
The second the back door slammed shut the unseen man descended the staircase as he played back all of the things he had heard and seen since he had been in the house. None of it had made any sense and seemed impossible. And if he were not standing where he was in that moment, he wouldn't have believed it possible himself. He moved to the study where he knew the good liquor was kept and he always did his best thinking with a drink in hand. He had to really think about his current situation and try to figure out how to fix it.

I think I’m falling in love with you
Alaric x Reader Imagine
Requested by @fandom-addiction-queen
Prompts:
If I see you go anywhere near her, you’ll have to deal with me.
I’m not going anywhere
Living in Mystic Falls was exhausting. You were over the supernatural world. Ever since Klaus had shown up in Mystic Falls everything had been upside down. Being a human in Mystic Falls was some what terrifying. You knew one day you would either end up dead or as a Vampire.
Elena and Jeremy were your younger siblings. You were 5 years older than Elena. You were living in South Carolina after you graduated High School. When your parents died you had moved back home to help Jenna. Now it was you and Alaric keeping an eye out for Elena and Jeremy. You had found the spell that made the Gilbert rings. Bonnie had made you one of your own. You had refused to take the one Elena had given to Ric from him. You had argued with him back and forth until Bonnie showed up with a more feminine version of the Gilbert Ring.
The two of you spent a lot of time together. It made you feel something in your gut that you couldn’t even begin to acknowledge. You were pretty sure he felt the same way. The subtle flirting back and forth. Binge eating takeout and watching movies together while Jeremy was out doing whatever he did and Elena was off doing her Salvatore balancing act.
You knew the two of you couldn’t go there. Because of Jenna. Ric had been in love with Jenna and she had been slaughtered for Klaus’ gain. She was your Aunt. You couldn’t betray her like that. But it was getting so hard. It was tearing you up inside.
Which brought you to your current location. Drowning your emotions in Jack Daniels at The Grille. Matt was slowly getting concerned. You had downed almost a whole bottle yourself and didn’t seem to be slowing down. He didn’t want to narc on you so he just kept an eye on you and decided if anything got out of hand he’d get someone over here to take you home. He knew things had been rough for the Gilbert family. He didn’t know how you got out of bed in the morning so some binge drinking seemed to be a reasonable reaction. He’d just never see you take it to this extent.
“Well hello Darling.” You looked to your left and saw Kol Mikaelson’s face beaming back at you. This is what you needed. A distraction. And he certainly was a sexy one. “Drowning our sorrows are we?”
“Something like that.” Matt came over and pored Kol the drink he requested eyeing you. He didn’t like this one bit. He didn’t trust any of the Mikealsons. Especially not Kol.
“Run along quarterback.” Kol then turned his attention back to you. “Care for a game of pool?”
“Why not?” You took his arm and let him lead you to the pool tables. Matt shot a text to Elena expressing his concern.
————————————————————————
You had finished your second game of pool with Kol and he was quite charming. Between the liquor and his witty comments you were completely disarmed. So much so that the two of you were currently walking through the town square, yours was just more of a stumble. He held your hand and led you down an alleyway and soon you were pushed up against the wall and his lips were on yours. His hands were all over your body. You could hear the alarm bells in your brain faintly going off. You didn’t want to do this. Kol was fun but you didn’t want to go there with him. And there was a chance you wouldn’t make it out alive. Elijah had warned you that he was volitile.
“Kol...we shouldn’t do this” you struggled against his body. “Come now sweetheart yes we should.” He trailed kisses down your jaw. “Kol please stop.” You tried pushing him off but he was so incredibly strong. And you were too drunk to fight back. You felt his lips on your neck and then his fangs but befor he could sink them in a gust of wind game and someone else’s arms were around you.
Stunned you saw Elijah pinning Kol to the brick wall hand in his chest squeezing his heart. Alaric was holding you up. “I believe she asked you to stop.” Alaric spat at Kol. He was now wrapping you in his jacket. Your bare arms were like ice. Sobriety came barreling in like a freight train.
“Elijah you’re hurting me.” Kol growled out. “Brother be thankful that it is my hand in your chest and not a dagger. Have you no manners? No self control? Y/N has been through plenty. Much of it due to Niklaus. You will not be the cause of more pain in her life. If I see you go anywhere near her again, you’ll have to deal with me.”
As soon as Elijah removed his hand Kol was gone. Your heart was beating fast. “Oh God I’m so sorry. I’m so embarrassed. We were playing pool and having fun. He was walking me home because I didn’t want to drive. I’m so stupid. You warned me about Kol. I shouldn’t have drank so much and gotten myself in that situation” Your face was in your hands you felt Ric’s hold on you get a little tighter. Elijah came and pulled them away and looked into your eyes.
“Y/N- darling. I like to think you and I have become good friends since I’ve been in Mystic Falls. You trusted me when no one else would. You’ve helped me. You made sure Damon removed the dagger before returning my coffin to Klaus. I know you had pain prior to meeting me. But I’ve seen you go through some very traumatic events while I’ve been here. And yet you spend every day taking care of others. Trying to protect your family. You are not stupid. You’re incredibly smart and strong. You’re just overwhelmed and tired. You wanted to let off some steam. It’s not your fault my brother is a miscreant. Kol as a human was mischievous. Being a vampire made him so much worse. No longer harmless. His charm could fool anyone. Do not blame yourself. But take my advice. You cannot take the world on alone. You need to lean on those you are close to. Let those that love you help carry the burden.” You noticed his eyes traveled to Alaric’s face. “I will call you tomorrow to check on you.” Elijah kissed your cheek and then in a flash he was gone.
You turned into Ric and hugged him tightly by wrapping your arms around his waist. He was considerably taller than you were. You felt safe with him. When you let go he had both of his hands on the sides of your face. He wiped away some of your tears with his thumbs.
“Y/N- I knew you were struggling. I wish you had come to me. To talk or at least bring me along for the binge drinking so I could protect you.” The look on his face was so tender and loving.
“I know. I just didn’t want to be any more of a burden. It’s a lot to handle. Elena and Jeremy. All of the insane supernatural crap that goes on here. You already left once and Elena convinced you to come back. I didn’t want to be the thing that pushed you back out the door.”
“You could never be a burden to me. And I’m not going anywhere. I was in a bad place. I left not because you guys were too much but because I didn’t think I could do it. I thought you guys deserved better. But you made me better. You make me better.”
“How did you know I was in trouble?” It hit you that you hadn’t told anyone where you were going. “Matt. He was concerned so he texted Elena that you were drunk and with Kol. He said he was keeping an eye on you and that if anything seemed off he would let her know so someone could step in. And then he went in the back for a second and came back out- you were both gone. I was at the Salvatore’s with Elena. She called Elijah for help. He and I went one way. Stefan and Damon went another to make sure you were safe.”
“I should text Elena.” You went to pull out your phone.
“I already did. Come on, we’re going to the boarding house. Elena is there now. We’re going to crash there tonight. We figured you could use your makeshift family tonight. You smiled and nodded. He put his arm around you and led you to his car. You pulled your phone out and shot a text out to Matt.
Thanks for having my back Matty. You REALLY saved me. A few moments later your phone buzzed in your hand.
Y/N- you’ve always had my back. Glad I could return the favor. I’m even more glad that you’re okay. I’ll see you tomorrow. Drink a lot of water for the epic hangover you’re going to have.
You set your phone in the cup holder and were surprised when you felt Ric’s fingers intertwined with yours. His thumb was tracing circles on the skin inbetween your index finger and thumb. You let out a contented sigh and watched Mystic Falls pass outside.
————————————————————————
Damon was pacing when you walked into the Boarding House. The two of you had become close. He was also your best friend and well as Ric’s. “Are you okay?! He didn’t feed from you did he?! Let me see your neck!” He demanded.
“Damon- Damon stop, I’m fine.” He hugged you. “It was smart to call Elijah. Kol is afraid of him.” Alaric followed you in with a duffle bag in his hands. “I just kind kind of want to go take a hot shower.” Jeremy grabbed the bag from Alaric.
“Elena- come show us what room she’s staying in.” Jeremy urged. Elena nodded and put her arm around you and led you to the stairs. You couldn’t help but think they were all over reacting. Elena glanced back at Ric as you went up the stairs.
Once you were in the room Elena sat down on the bed and motioned for you to join her. You gave her a questioning look when Jeremy shut the door and then came and sat across from you and Elena in the bed.
“Guys- I don’t need an intervention or a lecture from my younger siblings. I let my guard down and it won’t happen again. It was stupid and-“
“That’s not what we wanted talk to you about.” Elena interrupted you and patted your hand.”
“Ooookay....” You motioned for one of them to continue.
“We wanted to talk to you about you and Ric” Jeremy finally blurted. You looked at them both with wide eyes. “What about me and Ric. There is no me and Ric.”
“And that’s the problem.” It was Elena’s turn. “We know he has feelings for you and you have feelings for him.”
“What gave you that idea?” You didn’t know where this was going but you weren’t ready to admit anything.
“Um- we’re not headless” Jeremy said laughing. “The two of you are completely obvious. I see the way he looks at you. And the way he stares when you walk out of the room. Your flirting is shameful. The way you blush when he compliments you. The way you hang on his every word when he drones on about history and artifacts. I’ve never seen your face light up the way it does when you’re talking to him or looking at him. And vise versa. The only two people that don’t realize it is the two of you.”
“Guys- nothing is going on between me and Ric. And nothing can ever happen.” Elena took both of your hands.
“Y/N it’s okay. I know for a fact that Jenna would be okay with this. She loved you both and she would want you both to be happy. Especially together. Ric isn’t cheating on her or leaving her for you. You found love in eachother after a horrible loss.” You had tears in yours eyes. “I promise you it’s okay.” You hugged Elena and soon felt Jeremy wrap his arms around the two of you.
A half hour later you were coming out of the bathroom. You were in cotton Pajama pants and a fitted v-neck T-shirt. Your hair was piled ontop of your head in a messy bun. You were startled when there was a knock at your door. You smiled when you saw Alaric standing behind it. He had. Big bottle of water and some Advil. You stepped out of the way so he could come into your room.
“I figured you’d need this. I wanted to see if you were okay.” You shut the door behind him.
“I’m okay. Really. You guys are going overboard.” You saw irritation flash across his face.
“Y/N he could have killed you. He could have ripped that ring off your finger and killed you.” He was in front of you cupping your face. “Y/N I can’t lose you too. I wouldn’t survive it. I think I’m falling in love with you.”
“Ric” you whispered.
“It’s okay if you don’t feel the same.”
“Shut up and kiss me.” You pleaded. His lips crashed against yours. You felt complete for the first time in a very long time.

Little Gilbert
(requested by anon) Kai Parker x Reader word count : 4 461 summary : Reader is Elena’s little sister and the Salvatore’s are over protective of her. Kai ends up staying at the Salvatore’s over night and sneaks into her room. *gif by jake-riley keep reading after the cut😉 ____________________
Y/N’s life had gotten complicated the past few years. When her older sister Elena had met Stefan , Y/N had still been in her third year of high school. Both Stefan and Damon had taken a liking to her and over time had become like family to her - like she had two older brothers. After Elena had burned down their house , Y/N had moved in with the Salvatores. Problem was they were super over protective of her. If anyone even dared to get too close to her , things would get ugly for that person. Once a classmate , her friend Jake , had come over so they can work on a project and he had played a prank on her - sneaking up from behind to scare her - and she had screamed. Damon , who had been at the kitchen in that moment making her her favourite snack , rushed to the living room and nearly choked her friend before even bothering to listen to what had happened. Stefan was the same - almost , he listened first before trying to hurt anyone. Y/N loved them and appreciated having two guarding angels at all times but sometimes things were getting a little out of control. Their over protectiveness was starting to suffocate her. Whenever a boy showed up to take her on a date , one of them would tag along and even though the Salvatore wouldn’t sit with them , it didn’t matter much because they could still hear and see everything. Elena was the only one who could get them to back off a little but that never lasted too long.
* * * Y/N walked downstairs heading into the kitchen, her ponytail and white polca dot ribbon flapping behind her. She was wearing a black tshirt with print (the logo of her favourite band) and gray skinny jeans along with her favourite ankle high black converses. “Hey sis.” she smiled at Elena. “And big brother.” she winked at Damon. Her eyes drifted towards the cupcakes on the kitchen counter and just as she was about to grab one , her eyes fell on a stranger sitting on the kitchen table. He had blue eyes ,brown hair , perfect angel like features and was holding a cupcake , his fingers covered with frosting. The boy glanced at her , then at Elena and Damon. “You have a little sister?” asked the boy. “Wait. Who’s sister is she? And …where have you kept her hidden until now?” Y/N took one of the cupcakes , taking a bite which resulted in cupcake frosting getting on her nose. Elena wiped it away with her thumb , giving her little sister a warning look. Damon glanced between Kai and Y/N , who obviously were curious about each other by the way they were starring at one another. Kai had gotten up , shortening the distance between him and Y/N. He was smiling widely , outstretching his hand for her to shake as a hello. “Hi. I’m Kai …and you are ?” “Littlest Gilbert.” she laughed. “I’m Y/N , Elena’s little sister, well cousin.” “A human.” muttered Kai to himself. “Didn’t think those existed in Mystic Falls with all the supernatural population. I see you like cupcakes as much as me. Hey maybe we can go out sometime - there is this bakery near the town square -” “OKAY , slow down big brother.” said Damon pulling Kai away from Y/N. “You are not allowed anywhere near her. Got it? She is off limits.” “Why not ?” wondered Y/N. “Because he is the one who shot an arrow through Bonnie’s stomach and he is the reason she is all alone in the Prison World right now.” said Elena pushing her sister out of the kitchen door. Y/N got free and ran back towards Kai and the cupcakes. Elena’s little sister looked at Kai , head to toe , curiousity burning in her eyes. “He doesn’t seem dangerous.” she said. “He seems .. cute and cuddly.” Kai laughed under his breath. “I think she likes me.” “No , no , no.” said Damon. “No one here likes any body. Y/N , go to your room before things get ugly for mr. charming right here.” Elena grabbed Y/N and started pushing her towards the door again. “Fine, fine. I’m going. See you around Kai.” “Yeah. See you around.” he replied with a wistful look in his eyes. Damon was starring at him , his arms folded in his chest. “What ?” “If you touch her , you lose your head or heart. Or both.” threatened Damon. “Damon !” exclaimed Elena. “Don’t threaten him. He said he’d help us get Bonnie back. That gives him a pass. At least this time…” Elena kissed Damon on the cheek while Kai was glancing between them and the door , hoping that maybe Y/N would pop her head through there. “You two together is still totally revolting to me.” sighed Kai. “Alright , where is that stupid Ascendant ?”
* * *
A FEW MONTHS LATER
Y/N walked into the Salvatore’s , her phone in her hands as she kept texting her friends. Elena had convinced Stefan and Damon not to hover over her that day , so she can spend it with her friends before their graduation in a few days. The Salvatores’ overprotective attitude really was getting out of control lately. Y/N took a few steps into the living room and left her bag on the sofa hearing voices coming from the library. Whoever had come for a visit didn’t appear to be wanted. For a moment she hessitated , but in the end curiousity won over and she headed straight towards the loud voices ignoring the fact Stefan and Damon would be angry as hell if she put herself in any kind of danger.
“I just need a place to crash.” “No.” “One night.” insisted Kai. “Don’t think your house was my first choice. Look I know we don’t get along , specially after that wedding fiasco , for which I am very sorry by the way. What Bonnie did hurt me and I snapped. It’s not like you two haven’t screwed up majorly at some point in your life.” Stefan folded his hands , nodding and rolling his eyes listening to Kai. Last thing he and his brother wanted was Kai spending the night over , specially with Y/N being in the house. Kai had been dangerous before he turned into a heretic and now who knew what he’d do if he got upset. None of them were willing to risk it. “I am trying to be better.” added Kai. “Please ? See how nice I am ? I even said ‘please’.” “You are not not staying.” argued Damon.
* * *
Kai laid in his bed with his hands behind his head listening in to what was happening downstairs. He knew he wasn’t wanted and decided to play nice because of Y/N. At the moment Elena was trying to convice her to stay away from Kai to which Y/N seemed to reply with only MMMHMMMSS and nods. Stefan and Damon pitched in too , trying to make her hate him. Kai really hoped they wouldn’t succed.
“Well , I’m going to bed.” said Y/N suddenly , interrupting her sister and the Salvatore’s lecture about Kai. “Okay.” said Elena , hugging her goodnight and Stefan and Damon demanded they walk her to her room. She protested but there was no talking them out of it. They walked upstairs , a Salvatore on each side and headed down the left hallway. “There. I’m safe and sound in my room.” said Y/N sounding a little annoyed. “Could you cool it down a bit ? I’m starting to feel … a little suffocated.” “Our house , our rules.” said Damon , kissing her forehead. “Sweet dreams.” Stefan gave her an one arm hug and followed his brother downstairs to talk to Elena. Y/N closed the door and sighed. “ ‘Our house , our rules.’ ” she muttered. “I wonder what would happen if I move into the tree house outside. Probably the squirrels will have an opinion about it. ‘Oh but where will we store our nuts for the winter?’ Absolutely ridiculous… ”
Kai tried to suppress a laugh. He knew the Salvatore’s must suspect he has a thing for Y/N. It wasn’t possible for him not to have one. Out of everyone in the group , she seemed the only one ready to listen to him talk and talk , accepting him just how he is , with all the good and the bad. Not once he had heard her judge him or see that look everyone else was giving him. No. Y/N was different. Around 2AM when everyone else appeared to have fallen asleep , he got up quickly , taking out a medium sized cartoon box out of his backpack and walked quietly to the door. Kai opened it and popped his head down the hall looking both ways before going out and carefully closing it behind him. He tried figuring out where Y/N’s room would be and with his luck , the Salvatores had probably decided to give him the room furtherest away from hers. It appeared to be the most logical thing to him.
Kai reached the end of the hallway and placed his hand on the doorknob , slowly and quietly twisting it before taking a peek inside. “Bingo.” he whispered smiling , walking in a second later. Y/N had curled up on her bed , the covers pushed away due the heat. Her window was opened and Kai wondered what Stefan and Damon would say if they found out. He sat on her bed leaving the box next to him and brushed his fingers against her cheek. Y/N looked so cute in her sleep , her nose twitching like a little bunny’s. Kai placed his hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming and tried waking her up. It took him a few minutes but finally her eyes opened. “Hey hey. Its me.” said Kai smiling. “Please don’t scream. Sorry for waking you up , I just wanted to talk to you. I’ll remove my hand now , okay? ” Y/N nodded and he took his hand off her mouth. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?” she wondered , running her fingers through her hair as she sat in her bed. “You know what my two bodyguards would do if they find you here.” “Let them try.” said Kai a little amused. “I’m a heretic now. Perhaps if I was only a puny vampire or a witch they would be able to but not anymore. Now , close your eyes. I have a surprise for you.” Y/N squeezed her eyes shut and Kai placed the box in her hands. Her eyes lit up when she saw the cupcakes inside and she patted the spot next to her on the bed and Kai climbed up next to her. “Thought you might like those.” “Like ? I love those !” she smiled. “Thank you.” Y/N took one of the cupcakes , swiping her finger around the frosting before tapping his nose , trying hard not to laugh at his expression. Kai was looking at her wide eyes gleaming in the dim light and his mouth was open in surprise. He wiped the frosting with his thumb , licking it right after. “You think you are so cute , don’t you?” he said amused. Y/N only winked at him. Yep. Beyond cute , actually. he thought. “Want some ?” she asked , letting him take a bite off the cupcake she was holding. “So… What did you want to talk about ?” “Nothing really.” he answered. “I just wanted to surprise you and get to spend some time with you. It appears during the day that can hardly happen specially with Stefan and Damon hovering over you the entire time..” “Yeah …” “Why are they so overprotective of you?” he wondered , looking nervously at his hands. “Are you … um … are you dating Stefan or something? He seemed way too eager to get you away from me.” Y/N stared at him for a moment and then started laughing. Kai looked at her confused. “What ? Whats so funny?” wondered Kai. “Do I still have frosting on my nose ? I thought I wiped all of it out.” “Stefan is not my boyfriend. He is Elena’s ex and … one of my closest friends.” she said wiping some frosting off Kai’s face. He really had missed a smudge. “More like an older brother actually. They both are. Stefan and Damon I mean.” “So … you don’t have a boyfriend?” asked Kai with a hopeful note in his voice. Y/N shook her head looking at him. Why would he ask her that question? And why did she feel her cheeks flush and her heart race ? “I don’t know if they said 'thank you’ but … Thank you for not linking my sister to Bonnie. With Jeremy gone , I really don’t know what I would’ve done without her around.” Kai gave her a small smile. Y/N had been the reason why he hadn’t gone through with it. Part of him knew that if he wants her to be his friend , there was no way for him to screw over her sister like that. She never would’ve forgiven him for this. He still wondered how Y/N had that much power over him considering they’d barely spent a few days together since they met. Kai reached for one of the chocolate cupcakes , swiping some of the chocolate frosting with his finger , licking it right after. “So where is that tree house?” he wondered. “I’ve been here a lot of times but no one had ever mentioned it. Must be pretty cool if you want to move there.” Y/N smiled, of course he had heard her comment. A few years ago she and her brother , Jeremy , had build a tree house in the woods. Pretty much no one knew about its existance , but her and her siblings and quite possibly Stefan and Damon. It wasn’t as big for her to move in there but it was a nice escape from reality every now and then. “It’s a little deeper in the woods. We can go there tomorrow , if you want.” she said hopefully. “I would love to.” smiled Kai , taking another cupcake. He looked at it for a moment , then glanced at Y/N. “Hey , Y/N?” “Yeah?” she looked up and Kai smashed the cupcake against her nose. “Payback’s fun.” he laughed at her startled / amused expression and quickly pulled out his phone to take a picture. “This is going on Instagram. And Snapchat… and Facebook.” Y/N wiped away the frosting from her face , wiping her hands clean on Kai’s face. “Whoops. Sorry.” she said pretending to be really sorry , looking inncently in his eyes. “I think you have a little … something right there.” she motioned at his face. “OH you are so going to get it for this one.” he threatened , purple black veins showing under his eyes as he rolled on top of her and started tickling her like crazy. Kai loved seeing her smile and hearing her laugh. Somehow it made him smile and laugh too. Happy , thats how Y/N made him feel. “S-stop.” she laughed trying to push him off her. “Not a chance.” he laughed , only slowing down for a moment before continuing to tickle her. Kai couldn’t help but notice how her eyes sparkled in the darkness , even more when their eyes met. Both their laughs were echoing in the house but none of them seemed to care about that. “Having fun?” said Damon , making Kai turn around and stop tickling Y/N. “Get off her now before I tear your arms off.” Y/N kept laughing , trying to catch her breath. Her eyes had started to water a little but she could still see the Salvatores trying to drag Kai away. Quickly she got up grabbing Kai’s hand , pulling him towards her. “Stop it you two.” she said running her fingers through her hair. “He wasn’t hurting me or anything. I’m perfectly fine. We were just laughing and eating cupcakes. Can’t I do that with my friend ?” “You-” said Stefan. “- are not allowed to have boys in your room. Specially not him.” “I wouldn’t hurt her. I’d die before doing that or letting anyone else try.” interrupted Kai sitting back on her bed. Y/N had called him her friend which was more than he had ever expected. “Y/N is my friend , … maybe my only friend. I like spending time around her and she appears to feel the same. If she tells me to leave , I will. No questions asked.” Stefan glared at Kai while Damon balled his hands into fists , clenching his jaw trying hard not to strangle Kai then and there. “Consider it an early graduation present.” she said with a smile , glancing at Kai who was sitting on her bed , his elbows resting on his knees while holding his head in his hands. He was looking at them with curious look on his face and a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “You can leave the door open if you want , but he is staying.” “Wide open.” said Damon. “I might take it off its hinges just in case that twirp gets any ideas.” “Ha.Ha.Ha.” “Don’t you dare -” “Out. Both of you.” said Y/N. “Please.” Stefan and Damon left pointing at their ears letting them know they’d be listening in , leaving the door wide open. Y/N tossed herself on the bed next to Kai. A groan of frustration coming out of her lips. “Sorry about them.” she muttered. “They are driving me insane.” “Don’t be.” he said rubbing her back in slow circles. “They care about you. Wish I had someone like that in my life.” Y/N got up , snuggling closer to Kai. He sighed , wrapping his arms around her. “How can’t you see it?” she wondered smiling. “You already do.” “Who?” “Me , dummy.” she started to laugh. Kai looked at her a little surprised. Y/N’s eyes were fixed on his and he could hear her heart racing. He brushed his palm against her cheek , tapping her nose right after. Hearing her say that had made something inside him shift a little. “I care about you too.” he said quietly.

THE NEXT DAY
Y/N woke up in her bed around 7AM and quickly got dressed , heading straight for Kai’s room. It was the only room in the hallway opposite from her room that hadn’t had the door closed. He was looking at something on his phone and quickly looked up seeing her stand barely 2 metres away fully dressed and smiling at him. Y/N pressed her index finger to her lips and took his hand pulling him off the bed. “Out the window.” she whispered , wrapping Kai’s arms around her. Kai laughed in her ear for a moment and both of them jumped outside.
Y/N and Kai walked through the woods for about 20 minutes until they reached one of the few oak trees. Between the branches , hidden , was a small tree house. It had tiny windows and a small porch - large enough for two maybe three people to sit on. “Come on.” she said with a smile , pulling one of the branches letting a rope ladder fall down. Kai watched Y/N climb up and then went after her. By the time he had reached the top , she was already sitting on the makeshift porch with her feet dangling off it. He sat next to her and followed her gaze. “If you squint your eyes really really hard you can see the boarding house from here.” He looked at her squeezing her eyes and starting to laugh in a moment. Y/N turned towards him and their eyes meeting for a second. A sigh left her lips and her gaze dropped to her hands. Something had sparked between them last night and again just a moment ago. Kai brushed his palm against her cheek making her look up at him again. He could hear her heart racing and breathing turn shallow the closer to her he got. It had been the same the night before. In the end they had fallen asleep in each other’s arms and when Kai had woken up around 6AM , he had left her room before any of the Salvatore’s saw them. He was sure they’d freak out. Weirdly he didn’t care what they’d do to him. He was worried what punishment they might come up with for her. “Your friends would kill me for what I’m about to do.” he whispered leaning in towards her and unless he was imagining it , she was leaning in towards him too. “But I don’t care.” “W-why not?” she asked , trying hard to concentrate and calm her breathing with no luck. Kai’s blue eyes were piercing into hers , drawing her in and a couple dozen butterflies were flapping their wings in her stomach. “Because I would’ve gotten to kiss you..” he said pressing his lips against hers for moment , making her heart beat so fast as if trying to leap out of her chest. “ At least once.” he said smiling. Y/N stared at him , a smile starting to show on her face. Kai smiled back at her lightly brushing his nose against hers and just as she was about to kiss him - “Well , you are right about the kill part.” said Stefan. Y/N and Kai looked down seeing Stefan standing there , his hands folded on his chest. He looked mad. Really mad. She couldn’t remember the last time he was shaking from anger like that with his vampirism showing at the same time. “You are not going to touch him.” she said feeling more confident than ever. “And why is that?” “Because - ” said Y/N taking Kai’s hand. “- killing him would mean ripping my heart out.”

Your eyes glanced up towards the sunny sky, watching as the birds flew freely, chirping loudly. Was this actually real? Were you finally back?
A small laugh escaped your lips as the sudden realization hit you. You were no longer trapped in the prison world. You were free, and back in the real world.
“We’re finally free! Kai, we’re free, we’re back.” You yelled with a large smile, your arms spreading out as the cool fall air blew against you. The autumn leaves decorated the forest floor with its orange and yellow colors. You almost forgot how autumn had looked after so many years being trapped in the prison world.
It was quiet, the only hearable sounds were the light crunching of leaves along with the small giggles that escaped from you every so often.
Kai stood against a tree with his hands dug into his pants, his orbs never leaving your form. He was very quiet despite his talkative nature, but recently his thoughts had been clouding his mind more so than before.
The steps he took in order to free not only him from the prison world, but to free you as well wasn't what one would call the right way of handling. He hurt Bonnie in the process and left her behind, trapped.
Although, you had no idea that Bonnie was still trapped. Kai knew you wouldn’t have left if he told you the truth, and so he lied, saying that Bonnie left with Damon, leaving the two of you behind.
You felt betrayed and hurt by both Damon and Bonnie, but what did you expect? They knew about your crime and the reason why you were imprisoned, so it only made sense that they’d leave you behind, right?
But eventually, you were over it and decided to help Kai to find a way out. And here you were.
You turned around to look back at Kai, tilting your head to the side in a questioning manner before you made your way towards the male.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, your lips slowly morphing into a small frown. Your hands were then placed against his face, but as soon as they came they were gone.
Kai had slapped your hands away, and you stood there in puzzlement.
“This isn’t going to work, Y/N.” He spoke, though his gaze was directed someplace else other than yours. He didn’t want to have to look at you or else he’d regret what he was about to do.
Your (E/C) orbs widen slightly, your breathing stopped. Where was he going with this? You could feel a sudden wave of fear overcome you, your hands unconsciously shaking.
“What do you mean, Kai? Y-You promised me.”
With that, your eyes began to water but you willed yourself not to cry, not in front of him at least.
A sudden laugh echoed throughout the forest and it left you dumbfounded. His laugh was then replaced by a small scoff, and he turned to look at you directly in your eyes, a small smirk resided on his lips.
“You actually thought I had feelings for you? I only used you because of your powers, Y/N. You were just an object for me to use for my escape and nothing more.” Kai finished off with a smile. He felt his heart drop, but he knew this was the right thing to do.
He didn’t want to hurt you or ruin the person who you’ve become. You were different than him, you were kind while he was a monster who only dragged others down with him. A monster who could kill to achieve his horrible desires. Yet, Kai knew that he will only ruin the best in you and he was afraid of that.
He made a move to leave, but a hand tugged back at his shirt. Confused, he looked back to see you glaring at him, (E/C) orbs watering.
“If that’s how you feel then why did you take me with you?”
You knew exactly how he felt about you as he knew how you felt about him. Yet, why did he say such things. Were you not good enough for him?
You never got a response back. Instead he pushed you from him, grabbing a hold of your arms and he began to siphon your magic. A small cry left your lips once you felt your magic being drained away and your muscles began to ache.
“I can easily send you back if you prefer, so don’t tempt me.” He whispered in your ear, his tone dark, before he stepped back. With a smirk, Kai winked at you and left as if nothing had happened.
You watched his retreating form with teary eyes, your body trembling with a mix of sadness and anger before you fell down to the forest ground, letting out a small sob.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t true, right?
(E/C) orbs gazed around their surroundings, a small frown upon their lips before they turned around to look directly at the male who was sitting in the chair with a jar of jelly in their hands.
“So you’re telling me there is no way out of this place?” You questioned with a perplexed look. This had to be a joke, right?
You didn’t remember much of what had happened before you ended up in this place, actually. All you remembered was a group of witches surrounding you, chanting before your vision went dark.
The male, Kai, was the one who found you and took you in before explaining to you what had happened and why you were here.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying. This place is a prison and only the witches who’ve committed something horrible are placed here, so here you are. Now tell me, what did you do, Y/N?”
The question baffled you and yet you didn’t have an answer for him because you weren’t even sure yourself. What did you do to find yourself trapped here?
He noticed the look on your face and he immediately let out a small laugh while shaking his head.
“Seems like they erased your memories. Oh, well don’t worry, I’ll help with that. Now, how about we start figuring out how to get out of this place?”
Everyday was the same day for both you and Kai, you two keep looking through the grimoires to find any that could help in your escape from the prison world, but none of you could find anything. On top of that, you were also trying to find a way to gain your memories back, yet you had no luck.
The two of you both began to grow close as time went by until you grew feelings for each other. Kai was a talker and you never grew bored of him talking since that was really the only entertainment there was aside from the bickering that came from the two newly arrived guests.
One night, you found yourself practicing a bit of your magic from looking up at different spells in the grimoires. Kai told you it was important to practice in order to strengthen your magic if you wanted to access your full abilities.
Your fingers skimmed along the old pages of the book, your eyes scanning along each line before you recited the same spell out loud.
A small ball of flame levitated in your hand, slowly growing in size until it grew the size of a soccer ball. Your concentration was cut off once you heard the door open and the bickering of voices echoing throughout the boarding house interrupted your session.
You tilted your head with a small smile to see that Damon and Bonnie were once again arguing over who knows what, both not noticing your presence in the living room as they went their separate ways. Kai was the last to enter and the look on his face showed that he was irritated.
“As fun as it is to see those two bicker like a married couple, it’s getting old.” The male commented with a slight growl in his voice as he made his way to you on the couch, immediately kissing your lips before wrapping his arms around your waist.
A small sigh escaped your lips as you easily relaxed into his hold, savoring the warmth of his. You two stayed quiet, taking in this silent moment all the while starring at the fireplace. You could feel his breath fanning against your ear, a small shiver running down your spine because of it and Kai took notice of this.
With a smirk, he suddenly placed small kisses along your neck and you let out a small gasp, feeling your body reacting to his small doing. You couldn’t help but to let out a small laugh because of this, and you turned around in his hold to look into his eyes.
The two of you lock eyes, your smile mirroring his. Then, he raised his hand to place against the side of you cheek, your eyes shutting close as you leaned into his touch. Two hearts raised their rhythm.
In that moment, everything around you disappeared and all you paid attention to was the man that you grew to love.
"Once we’re out of here, it’ll just be me and you.”
His words caused a smile to spread across your lips and you placed your hand on top of his.
“Promise?”
A smile answered your question, though this one was different, one where it was genuinely sweet with the touch of seriousness.
“I promise.”
You found yourself standing outside of an apartment belonging to Kai. It wasn't easy to track him down, but it took a couple of weeks to finally pin point where he was. You figured he used a spell in order to hide his location from you, but that wouldn’t keep you away.
You raised your fist and gave to knocks against the door. Your heart ached to see him again and to touch him. To feel the warmth of his hands against yours, and the feel of his lips.
Your thoughts were interrupted as the door creaked open, and on the other side stood Kai with a shocked look on his features.
There was a long silence between the both of you, but you were the first to break it.
“Hi, Kai.”
Silence once again before he muttered a reply back, “What are you doing here?”
He couldn’t believe it nor could he understand why you were here. Did it his words not affect you at all, or were you just stubborn? Of course, deep down he was glad to see you once again but he couldn’t help but feel guilty of what had happened.
Kai knew that he had hurt you both mentally and physically, yet he found you standing there with a smile on your face as if nothing had happened.
Then he heard a sigh coming from you and it caused him to frown deeply.
“I know why you pushed me away. Do you think I wasn’t going to catch on?”
He could feel his stomach churn at those words and now he was just waiting for you to say it; how bad of a person he was, and how you didn’t want anything to do with him.
Although, your next words shocked him.
“I saw Bonnie and she explained to me about what you did,” you paused and took a few steps towards him.
Kai didn’t make an attempt to look at you. Instead, he kept his eyes on the ground. You placed your finger under his chin and lifted it up in order to look back at his chocolate orbs that you loved dearly.
“Not only did you lie to me, but you hurt a friend of mine. But that's not why I’m here. I'm here because I want to be with you,” you finished off.
He finally decided to look at you, and he had an unreadable expression on his face that you couldn’t read. Suddenly, he hugged you tightly into him and placed his face into the crook of your neck and collarbone.
“Why? I’m a monster, Y/N and yet you still want to be with me? After what I did to Bonnie and to you?” His voice slightly cracked at the end, while you tried to comfort your boyfriend.
Yes, he had a few problems that he needed to deal with but you knew that deep down he was changing into something good, something better than he was before.
The darkness that held him was slowly loosening its grips on him and allowing him to resurface once again.
You were determined to help him through his.
“Because I love you, Kai and I'm not going to leave you.”
Kai could feel his heart thump loudly against his chest, and he only hugged you tighter. He didn’t deserve you, but he knew that you were the one thing that made him become the better person of him.You saw a different side to him than anybody else, and most of all you gave him hope.
He stood back in order to look into your eyes before he suddenly reached down to smash his lips against yours. You felt shocked, though that quickly went away once you kissed him back and moved your lips with his in sync.
You both pulled back, though you two stayed in each other’s embrace, smiling at one another.
“I love you too, Y/N.” He replied back, placing a kiss on top of your head before he closed the door to his apartment.
The two of you found yourselves in his bedroom with you straddling his lap. You ran your hands through his hair while he slowly starting unbuttoning your flannel  before pushing the fabric off your shoulders. You did the same to him, your hands gripping the end of his shirt before swiftly pulling it over his head.
He placed a kiss onto your shoulder while you left small kisses along his jaw. Kai pulled back to look at you with a devilish smirk before he spoke, “Let’s make up for the time we lost, baby.”
Then you found yourself laying on the bed with Kai hovering over you and soon the two of you spent the night making love to each other.

-Bad Guy-
Katherine Pierce
Sitting staring at Damon she smirked a bit. "Oh don't look so shocked darling." She said with a smidge of airy laughter. Sauntering across the lavish sitting room in the Salvatore Boarding House she arches a perfectly sculpted brow eyeing the exquisite collection of liquor bottles. "Did you really think you and your Martyr of a brother could really get rid of me that easy?" Drawing in a breath looking upward slightly as she let her index finger dance across the lables. "Too bad he won't be coming back." Pursing her lips she turned on the heels of her black suede louis vuitton calf grazing boots. "But then again with Elena being back in her delicate mortal form and him in his delicious human ways you might have a run for your money." Her smile widened as she heard him huff. "Aw strike a nerve cupcake?"
Rolling his lapis lazuli hues Damon stood moving towards the waspy brunette. 'It never ceases to amaze me how pathetic you sound Kitty Kat. You try so hard to make yourself sound relevant.' The elder Salvatore said with a smirk as he brushed against her slightly pushing her aside as he reached out grabbing a bottle of perfectly aged bourbon.
Narrowing her eyes Katherine tightened her lips in a scowl seeing she couldn't get under his skin. 'Tell me KP why did you come back after we sent you back to the one place you're actually not one of the worst people. I figured ruling hell would be a dream come true for you.' Pausing a bit as he looked over his shoulder giving that look only he could give that could make a girl squirm. 'Mm i know what it is you just couldn't stay away from me, too bad I'm a taken man.' The raven haired male said wagging his thick brows at her playfully. "And might I add she is S O much better than you in every way.'
Hearing his words caused her blood to boil. He loved hurting her, but she knew one way she could cut him to the quick. "Oh Damon you were and never be the one I ever wanted. You were just something to keep me company while your brother was busy." The waif said with a wink. "As much as I'd love to stay and chat much to do," Katherine paused for a second grinning and she raised her left hand to her mouth faking a small cough. "besides I'm feeling a bit under the weather, know any good local doctors?" Turning around she walked off as her hips swayed side to side exiting the room. "Toodaloo Damon." She called out disappearing into the darkness of the hallway.
Her words echoed in his mind as he brought the bottle to his mouth. Just before placing the rim to his bottom lip his eyes widened as it just struck him what she was up to.. 'Elena' he whispered..
Moments later the cafe au lait colored hair female walked into the quaint little doctors office. Licking her full bee stung bottom lip Katherine turned closing the door, pulling the shade down before turning the plastic [OPEN] sign around for the public to see the office was [CLOSED]. Breathing in a bit she turned and walked to the front desk. Leaning over she could hear the voice of an office worker. Raising her hand she lightly tapped the bell that rested on the desk. 'Coming!' The soft voice called out. Resting her elbows on the cool white top of the counter Katherine watched as a small auburn haired girl wandered up holding a manila folder. 'Do you have an appointment with Dr. Salvatore?'
Tilting her head Katherine smiled realizing the girl hasn't looked up from what she was reading. "Actually hun I'm an old friend of the good Doctors." The girl lifted her gaze a bit confused. The voice was familiar. The girls jade hues widened as she stared at the woman before her. "I know it's amazing how my hair looks so much better!" Katherine chied. Leaning closer she lowered her voice as her brindle orbes slowly eclipsed under her pupils. "You're going to calmly walk me to an empty room, after telling Elena she has a new patient. Then you're gonna come back and keep me company till she is done with what she's doing. Got that?" The nurse nodded her head as she motioned for Katherine to follow.
Moments later Katherine hopped up onto the examination table. Pushing a casscade of chestnut curls behind her ear she listened to the girl tell Elena exactly what she had compelled her to say. A large smile slithered across her candy apple lacquered lips. Leaning back as she rested her palms flat on the white paper that covered the table she heard the door nob turn and the door squeaked open. The girl slid in and stood before her.
The soft translucent skin under her bottom lashes darkened as a small web of veins shown through. Her dark chestnut eyes turned almost black as the whites of her eyes became a deep crimson. Her pearly white fangs dropped as she lunged for the girl with a playful growl reaching out wrapping her long fingers around the swan like neck of the ginger nurse. Spinning the girl slightly so her back rested against Katherine's chest she opened her mouth wide before letting her fangs sink into the pulsating jugular in the girls neck. The vermilion liquid oozed out slowly pooling into her mouth as her eager bubble gum tongue hungrily lapped it up. The door open as she dropped the lifeless girls corpse onto the ground. Smiling like the cat that just ate the canary Katherine watched Elena's expression turn from calm to horrified.
"Hello Cupcake! Long time no see! Thought I drop in and say hello!"
Elena stared at the girl on the floor. Her heart sank.. 'Why?' She asked as her voice shook. 'More importantly how? How are you here?! Stefa..'
Raising a hand she extended her index finger. "Let me stop you right there Elena.. Why? I'm the bad guy D U H! And as for the how.. Thats for you to, how is Damon says.. Oh yes.. Dot. Dot. Dot." The vampid female smirked stepping over the once vibrant girl she had no drained of life slowly walking past her mirror image. "Oh and one last thing.. That hair cut does nothing for you.." She said laughing walking out into the hallway disappearing from sight.

i don't see big moments of stelena confessing their feelings like u said there would be in ur fan fictions
then you’re not reading them? because they’re in like 50% of them.
“Wrecked” is entirely devoted to that. This is just a section:
This was impossible. How could she tell him that even though she’dtold herself she had, she’d never stopped loving him, that Damon, his brother, his brother who’d recently died and come back to life, had given herwhat she needed at the time but that it wasn’t enough for eternity, that evenat their best, Damon had never claimed her heart like Stefan had, thatexcitement was no match for what Stefan gave her — nourishment. This was alltoo much. She should’ve waited longer to come here, she should’ve written notes, she should’ve prepared more. This wasn’t something you just blurt out. Shestood up from the couch and start pacing, putting her hands to her head.
“Elena—”
The way he said her name with such intimate knowledge inspiredElena with abrupt courage. “You know … when we broke up, I’d said thatbeing a vampire changed me. That I wasn’t the same girl who died on the bridgethat night, the same girl who … who chose you.”
“I remember,” said Stefan. There was no trace of resentment in histone and Elena couldn’t help but smile to herself. This was why. This was whyshe was here.
“And I believed that for a long time,” she continued. “I believedthat I was just this other person who wanted different things, a different . .. relationship. But. From the moment I met you, Stefan, you knew me. I couldn’thide from you. I can’t hide from you. You know me. You know me betterthan anyone, better than myself, which is… I mean, how is that even possible?”
She chanced a glance at Stefan. He was staring at her with completefocus, his green eyes still and unwavering. Elena flipped her hair back andploughed on.
“I thought that becoming a vampire meant that nothing from my oldlife could make sense in my new one,” she said, getting a better footing onwhat she wanted to say. “I thought that I didn’t need what I used to need butno matter where I am in my life, I need you. I told you once that I neverstopped loving you and I guess what I’m trying to say is that, that never wentaway.” She took a deep breath. “Stefan, I love you.”
With her last words, Elena turned on her heel to look Stefansquarely in the eye. He was as still as ever, his jaw clenched in place. Thesilence between them was tense and loud; a low hum invaded the entire room.Elena was suddenly reminded of the first time she’d told him she’d loved him,he was quiet then too and looked completely devastated only to walk up to her, determined and resolute, and kiss her. Hard. With passion. With completedevotion. The memory almost made her sigh longingly. But Stefan made no move toget up and he sat in place, his lips closed in a straight line. He got silentwhen he processed, Elena knew this; Stefan always chose his words hiscarefully, his movements were meticulous, something she always appreciated butsomething that was currently driving her crazy.
After what seemed like hours, he drained the rest of his scotch andgot up to go back to the bar.
“I think you should go,” he said finally, his voice was very quietbut his tone almost sinister.
Elena blinked. She didn’t know what response she was expecting butthis definitely wasn’t it. “What? Stefan—”
“Elena.” He closed his eyes and pressed his lips together as if hewas trying to contain his anger. He poured another scotch. “What exactly do youexpect me to do with this? You broke up with my brother two days ago.”
“I know, I just —”
“You just what? Thought I should know?” He shook his head. “You’vegot to stop doing this. Going back and forth between us, it’s cruel.”
“I don’t mean to do it! This isn’t fun for me, Stefan. I don’tenjoy hurting either of you. I never did. But …” She shook her head. “I can’thelp what I feel.”
“No, but you can help what you say!”
“So you’re mad that I told you?”
She hadn’t banked on this. Shock, yes. Indignation, sure. Butanger?
“Yes, I’m mad. I’ve watched you with Damon for two years. Watchedyou be with him, watched you kiss him. I’ve lived in the house where you twohave slept together.” He sighed. “And I finally get my head wrappedaround it and you do, this?”
“I needed to tell you.”
“Why?”
“Because when you love someone you can’t keep it to yourself. Youcouldn’t keep it from me when we first got together.”
“Things weren’t as messy then.”
“You were a vampire and I was a human. It was pretty damn messy,Stefan.”
He looked at her appraisingly for moment. “You know what, you’reright. I should’ve stayed away and I knew I should’ve stayed away and —”
“And you couldn’t.” Elena took a step a closer to the bar, her eyessearching his expression. He wasn’t looking at her. “Stefan—”
“Damon, Elena. What about Damon? Was you choosing him a lie?”
“Of course it wasn’t!”
“Then what is this?”
“I needed to be with Damon, Stefan,” said Elena. “Even when Ididn’t want to admit it, he appealed to me. And when I turned …even afterthe sirebond…that appeal was strong. And I had to know. I had to know whatit felt like. I had to know what kind of person I’d be with him.”
“And?”
“And it was exciting. And it was frustrating. And… and no matterwhat, he could never reach me like you could. Like you can,” she added in awhisper.
Elena could see that Stefan’s eyes were shining now and she tookanother step closer. And another. She realized he wasn’t angry with her, he wasangry that he could feel it, their pull, their draw to each other, it wasundeniable, it always had been; when they were together, it was during fightslike these that really brought out the ties they had in one another. She wantedto touch and kiss him all over, feel the sensation of coming home, feel thesafety of his hands, the recklessness of his lips, the mixture of refuge andpassion. She reached out to touch his face, her fingertips brushed his cheekand she heard him breathe the smallest sigh, his eyes were almost closed …
“No, Elena, leave.” He grabbed her wrist and yanked her arm down. His eyes screwed shut. “You shouldn’t be here. You need to go.”
Elena remained where she was, pulling her lip slightly to the side.
“Go!”
His yell was loud enough to fill the entire living room and it madeher flinch. Tears sprung to her eyes, hot and fast, and she left, hervamp-speed full on, Stefan a fuzzy figure in her periphery. She reached her carin the driveway and sat in the driver’s seat for a few long moments, allowingherself to give sound to her cries. She hadn’t expected this, she hadn’texpected to leave feeling cut in half, without a centre, hollow and rejected. She couldn’t stay here anymore and she turned the key in the ignition and spedoff, down the street, the grey sky above.
An excerpt from “Rushing Back”
“No butBonnie—” Elena waved her over. Bonnie shot Kai another dirty look and thenwalked toward her. “I don’t like this,” said Elena. “His clothes are covered inblood and he looks — he’s still hungry, I can tell. I had that same look whenI first turned, like nothing would fill me. Right, Stefan?” No answer.“Stefan?”
But Stefanstill didn’t respond; he stared at Kai with a knowing look in his eye, hiseyebrows furrowed. “This isn’t the same thing,” he said quietly.
“What do youmean?” said Elena.
Stefan turnedto her. “Not all blood is the same. When I tasted yours when we were together …nothing else compared to it, nothing else satisfied me the way yours did. Onedrop from your finger did more for me than an entire blood bag. I hungered for you.”
Elena’s lipsparted at his words and before she could stop herself, she sighed slowly andwith aching; she sighed with the memory of how entwined they were in thatmoment when he drank from her palm.
Stefancontinued. “And Kai…”
“Kai what? You’re saying he’s hungering? But who would he be…” Elena looked at Bonnie, horrified comprehension dawning her face. “Bonnie?”
_____
Kai’s wordsechoed in Stefan’s ears and he smiled sadly.
“What is it?”said Elena. “What’s going on?”
“He, uh …”Stefan laughed. “He’s telling her he loves her.”
Elena raisedher eyebrows. “Oh,” she said. “Well that’s um … huh …Kai in love … well doesBonnie believe him?”
“I don’t know.”
“Do you believehim? Like believe that he could change?”
Stefan didn’t say anything for a momentand then spoke as if he were weighing his words carefully. “I guess I believeanything after seeing what you did for Damon,” he said. “You got him to love.Really love.” He paused. “You got meto love.”
Elena bit her bottom lip and looked awayso that her hair shielded her face from Stefan’s gaze. “You got me to lovetoo,” she whispered. “You got me to feel,to just be able to enjoy things … that never went away. No matter what wheneverI’m with you it’s like …”
“Life is fullof possibility,” said Stefan. “Like every experience we have is that muchbetter just because we were together.”
Elena turnedsharply toward him, her eyes piercing and sincere and shining now with unshedtears. She moved her fingers from Stefan’s hand and placed them on the side ofhis face and she watched as he closed his eyes at her touch; when he openedthem again they were raw and questioning. She shook her head slightly. “Evenwith everything that’s happened,” she said. “I never stopped being in love withyou.”
And thenStefan’s mouth was on hers, a hard peck charged with four years of pining.
An Excerpt of “Tell Me”
Elenatilted her head affectionately and sighed. “I’m saying that I don’t think Ireally knew what it was to love someone until I met you,” she said. “And beforewe met … I didn’t think my life would be anything but misery. But then you camealong and …” She could feel her voice thicken, her eyes start to shine withunshed tears. “I could enjoy thingsagain, laugh again, I wanted to be alive. You make me want things. You bring mehope, you know? You never stopped doing that for me. I can love because of you,I’m happy because of you.”
Stefan’slips quaked and he pulled them into a smile. “And it led you to Damon,” hesaid, nodding his head. “I’m glad that I did that for you, that I brought youwhat you really wanted because that’s all I’veever wanted. For you to be happy. Really, Elena. And now you can love likethat with Damon.”
“NoI can’t, Stefan,” said Elena. Stefan turned his head sharply toward her. “Ican’t love anyone how I love you,” she continued. “It’d be impossible to trybut still I’ve been trying, I’ve beentrying for three years and it just can’t happen. I just can’t feel that waywith anyone else, about anyone else.”
“Elena…”
She looked Stefan square inthe eye, her expression resolute and timidly hopeful. “With Damon. Everythingfeels right for a moment and it’s a beautifulmoment. It is. I need you to know that because he’s your brother and youlove him and you’re protective of him so I want you to get that. Everything isright for a moment. But then I’m, I don’t know, burnt out? Just empty and tiredfrom trying to hold on to that one moment because I love him, you know, I lovehim enough to try and stick it out, to try and find another moment. I love himenough to pretend I’m not unfulfilled but I am. Being with him isn’t just right. It’s right now. It’s for a littlewhile. But you? You are always. You’ve always been always. I’ve never not beenin love with you.”
There was a pause in whichStefan stared at Elena, his expression unreadable. He then looked up to theceiling and then lowered his head, pinching the bridge of his nose with histhumb and forefinger, his jaw tightened and Elena watched him as he wrestledwith whatever he was about to say. Finally, he looked back at her, his eyespained and blazing with anger. “So is what you just said supposed to make mehappy?”
“What I just said is supposedto be the truth.”
“Are you sure, Elena? Are yousure that you aren’t just freaking out about the idea of marriage and you’reself-sabotaging just like Damon would do?” Elena tensed at hearing the anger inStefan’s voice. He continued. “Has his personality rubbed off on you that muchthat you would do this?”
“I’m not self-sabotaging.”
“Sure,” said Stefansceptically.
Elena sighed. She knew what hewas doing. He was hoping, wishing for this to simply be cold feet. Cold feet hecould fix. The truth he couldn’t.
“Stefan,” said Elena, her tone gentle but determined. “Fromthe minute Damon and I got engaged I’ve been reliving those visions thetravellers made us fantasize about, remember? And just the joy that theybrought … that’s what speaks to me.”
“So move to Ithaca instead ofTribeca. Buy a house. Maybe you can adopt—”
“It’s not about the location,Stefan, it’s not even about the kids. It’s about you. It’s about a life withyou and how happy I was at seeing that life I built with you. I’ve been saying sincewe saw those visions that it was all a spell, a fantasy, I don’t know, but theway I felt about the spell … that was real and I thought that it couldn’t bereal because it wasn’t hard and what Damon and I had to be the path that Ishould go on because it was so hardand there had to be a reason why every day was a struggle but —”
“But what? What are yousaying? That you love my brother but you love me a little bit more?”
“It isn’t like that.”
“How do you expect me to reactto this?” Stefan was yelling now. He stood up and gesticulated furiously. “It’sthe night before your wedding!”
“Timing was never really mystrong suit,” whispered Elena.
“And that makes this OK? I’mjust supposed to forgive you for doing this to me? To Damon?”
“No.” Elena stood up too andstepped toward him. He moved away from her but she grabbed his arm and hestilled, his body half-turned away from her.
“I hide from things,” shesaid. “I avoid. I always have. I’m not proud of it it’s my biggest fault. Butyou… you would never let me hide. Or avoid. Not when I started feelingsomething for Damon, not when Alaric died, not when I got my humanity back. Sobeing with Damon, I think I avoided you, Ihid from you so I wouldn’t have to face that choosing a life with Damon wasn’tchoosing a life I wanted for myself. I couldn’t face that. Not after everythingwe all went through for me to make the choice that was Damon.”
Elena watched as the hostilityleft the etches of Stefan’s face; watched as his expression became anguished, devastated, as his eyes started to water. There seemed to be a tremor beneathhis skin, causing his face to tremble. Elena felt her own eyes well once morewith tears and she tightened her grip on Stefan’s arm, easing him to her sothat he slowly started to move so that he was turned completely to her. Theirfaces were inches from each other and Stefan swallowed hard, his eyebrowsfurrowed and his jaw clenched. Elena placed her palms on the sides of his faceand immediately, Stefan grabbed her wrists; it was a warning but he did nothingto move her hands away and stared at her, his expression raw.
“I shouldn’t even be here,” hesaid, his voice gruff with emotion. “None of this would happen if I just stayedat the party.”
“Why didn’t you?” said Elena, her eyes moving back and forth, forbidding Stefan to look away from her gaze.
“You know why I didn’t,” hesaid.
“Tell me.”
“Elena, I can’t.”
“Yes you can.”
“No, I…”
“Stefan.” She gently grippedhis face with her hands. He squeezed her wrists and closed his eyes.
“Please don’t make me say it,”he whispered. “Please don’t make me hate myself more than I already do.”
Elena sniffed. “You don’t oweme a thing,” she said. “But please. I need to hear you say it.” She pressed herforehead against his so that their noses touched, their lips only a breath awayfrom each other. Stefan moved his hands from Elena’s wrists to the sides of herface as well, feeling her tears on his palm.
“I couldn’t be there anylonger,” he said quietly.
“Tell me,” she said softly.
“I don’t want you to marryhim, Elena.”
And with no hesitation orpreamble, she brought his lips to hers.

Friends, Then? Chapter 2
Title: Friends, Then?
Chapter Title: Elijah, Then?
Couple: Carolijah
Characters: Caroline Forbes, Katherine Pierce, Damon Salvatore, Elijah Mikaelson, and Rebekah Mikaelson
Rated: T to M
Caroline Forbes woke up to the early morning light surrounded by bed sheets that were no longer hugging the corners of the mattress. The comforter and pillows had fallen off of the bed after last night's rambunctious activities. The room reeked of the obvious scent that a hard night of heavy sex would make. They had really done a number on the room and then just passed out in their own sweat and other bodily fluids.
Her roommate had her head rested on the vampire's shoulder, hair lightly spilling everywhere. Her slim arm was slung across Caroline's bare chest, and her tanned leg was repeating the action over paler thighs. She was very unconscious, and the blonde was amazed that it took her that long to lose all energy. Putting a human with a vampire was probably not the smartest idea, but after last night, it certainly was a great one.
Katherine stirred slightly to nestle her face further into Caroline's skin as she shivered lightly. The latter admired the girl sleep, mindlessly tracing her fingers across her slumbering roommate. Her eyes closed as she recalled their three in the morning affair. Every touch, kiss, moan, and cry replayed in her brain. It was amazing, epic, passionate, dangerous, scandalous. Sex that she had always wanted but never got. Now she could cross that off her bucket list.
A bang echoed through the room, followed by three hard knocks. Jumping up out of bed, Caroline both freaked out and shoved Katherine onto the floor causing her to wake. She let out a moan of pain before the blonde shushed her. Another knock sounded causing the girls to look at each other waiting for an answer on what to do.
"Blondie, open up." Damon's voice rang into their ears. "Come on, I'm even knocking this time. Now open the door before I bust it in."
"Just a minute!" Caroline shouted back as she worked. Opening windows, using air freshener, anything to remove the smell that haunted the room. Katherine removed the sheets, picked up the comforter, and slid the pillow cases off of their homes. Tossing the heavy load of bedding into the laundry basket, she then picked up all four items of clothing belonging to her and ran into the bathroom.
"Alright, way more than a minute has passed. What are you hiding?" The male vampire demanded, banging on the door once again.
"Gah, I'm not hiding anything. I just want to hop in the shower for three minutes to rinse off my face mask. I look like a monster so don't come in." Caroline lied, scrunching her face up as she threw word after word out of her mouth.
True to her word, she jumped into the shower, ignoring the cold water, and soaked herself. A quick scrub and rinse later, she threw on her plush pink robe and ran to the door. She gave the room a once over to make sure she didn't miss anything. Another second delay in burying her clothes under the comforter in the laundry basket and she was done. Nobody would have to know about last night's activities.
"Damn, alright. What do you want?" Caroline hissed the question, opening the door to reveal the impatient guest. He rolled his eyes and strolled in.
"I'm here to relieve you of babysitting duty. Where is Katherine?" Damon both answered and asked, scanning the room for the doppelganger in question.
"She is taking a shower. And why do you need to relieve me? We are doing fine here.? The baby vampire sat down on her empty bed and looked at the older man.
"Silas wants to become human. He promised to give up Stefan's location if we give him the cure. So tell the bitch to shower faster, we are going." The dark haired vampire explained with anger dripping from his voice. Caroline's eyes widened at the response. She didn't know what to expect, but that definitely wasn't on the list.
"Damon, just find Stefan on your own. It can't be too hard. Do not give into Silas. It's not worth it." Caroline begged, meeting his baby blue eyes with her own.
"I don't even know where to begin looking. And why do you care about Katherine all of a sudden? Please don't tell me you roommate bonded and are now besties." Damon complained back to his frenemy.
"Maybe we did. It's none of your business. Don't turn her over to Silas, he'll kill her." She stated bravely. The older vampire rolled his eyes before his response.
"Good riddance." He growled. His anger was short lived as Caroline snapped his neck and laid him onto the ground. She grimaced at the idea of Stefan suffering because she won't give up Katherine, but erased the thought quickly from her mind.
With her vampire speed, something she definitely came to love, Caroline sped around the room handling what she needed. In less than five minutes, two bags were packed with clothes, hair care products, shoes, and dental hygiene products. Zipping them closed, she turned to ready herself. Throwing on an outfit was quick and easy to do.
Now that she was dressed and had packed for two, she ran into the bathroom just as the shower turned off. Katherine stepped out, soaking wet and dripping onto the floor. She shivered at the cold air and Caroline watched as her nipples hardened due to the chill. She smushed her lips together and looked up, trying to clear any naughty thoughts from her brain.
"Like what you see, Care?" Katherine gave her a dirty smirk before wrapping a towel around her slim body.
"You already know that I do, but that's not why I am here. I snapped Damon's neck. We have up to four hours to get out of here." Caroline explained, tossing clothes at the shorter girl.
"Wait, why? You snapped Damon's neck! I would've paid to see that. But where are we going and why are we leaving?" Words and questions flew from Katherine's mouth as she struggled to get dressed.
"Silas wants you, so Damon wants to give you to him. To die. I don't know where we are going yet but we are leaving." More explanations came from the taller girl as she helped Kat put on her clothing
"So you are going to run with me. Aww, we'll be like a lesbian Bonnie and Clyde. So cute and romantic. I'll assume you want a June wedding?" The doppelganger sarcastically mocked the blonde and she tied her hair up sloppily and left the bathroom. "Well, let's get going."
xXx
So Caroline may have fibbed to the paranoid teen. She did know where she was going. It was partially for Katherine's sake, but mostly to live out her fantasy with the big bad hybrid. A secret that the brunette will have to deal with not knowing.
As of this moment, she could only picture all the things she was going to do to Klaus. So many naughty things that made her toes curl just thinking about it. Her dreams would finally be a reality in the next day or so. But she had to focus. They would never reach New Orleans if her sex hazed thoughts landed them in a car crash that killed them both. Or if she needed to pull over and let Katherine go down on her again.
Even if she wanted another go with her sexy roommate, now was neither the place nor the time. One, they were on the run and needed to put distance between themselves and Mystic Falls. Two, she didn't want to wake Katherine up after she had passed out in the passenger seat. The poor girl was going on three hours of sleep after one hell of a night and then one active morning. She was human, after all, and needed the proper rest of a teenage girl.
Fourteen hours, nine bathroom breaks, five gas breaks, and one traffic jam later, the two were finally in New Orleans. Sure there were arguments on Katherine's side, but Caroline showed her the light. She still wasn't happy, but the blonde decided that her partner would just have to get over it on her own time.
Pulling into the only available parking spot in the public garage, they grabbed their bags from the backseat and vacated the car. Caroline carelessly slung the duffel bag over her shoulder and made her way out of the concrete building. Katherine followed quickly after, her suitcase rolling behind her like a puppy on a leash.
"You don't mind if I leave you by yourself, do you?" The blonde asked once the reached the outside.
"Umm, yeah, kinda. You take me to my enemy's town and now you are going to leave me alone?" The response flew from the doppelganger as she glared up at Caroline.
"Well, I want to go find Klaus and run this by him first. It will probably be best if you do don't come along. I want to make sure he agrees before you two are near each other." The vampire explained.
"Translation: Katherine, I'm going to fuck him into agreeing with me." She shook her head while rolling her eyes. The blonde just smirked and ran off, leaving Katherine all alone.
xXx
Caroline stood in front of the old plantation that now housed the hybrid she was seeking. She knocked hard on the door, waiting for someone to answer it. Nobody needed to. As soon as she applied pressure to the door, it slowly opened. She placed her arm through the door. Once she realised that she did not need an invitation to enter, she peered her head in.
It looked empty, but this was just the foyer. Not every part of the house could be seen from the doorway. With a deep breath, mustering up the courage she needed, Caroline stepped into the building and closed the door behind. She wandered out of the entryway and into the home area, admiring the high-class decor that surrounded her.
"Who are you and why are you here?" A voice questioned from behind her. It was male, light accent, and very easy to listen to. She carefully turned around to face the person.
He wasn't very tall for a man, but very attractive. He was dressed in a suit that probably cost more than Caroline's car. His crisp white shirt was tucked in and his olive tie was neatly done. Very respectable looking and definitely nice to stare at. She kept looking at him up and done, trying to conclude who he was before answering his question. When she came up blank, she gave him a shrug.
"My name is Caroline. I am looking for Klaus." She responded strongly, she had gathered the courage to talk to Klaus and now she was going to use it all in the conversation. This man intimidated her even though he only said one sentence to her.
"He isn't here at the moment. May I take a message?" He asked, studying her carefully. She blushed under his intense gaze and shook her head.
"It really isn't the kind of thing you can take as a message, unless you are interested." Caroline flirted easily, deciding that he wasn't that scary. Needless to say, she was bored and horny. If Klaus wasn't there, she would just take someone else. Plus, she wanted to have some fun.
The man smirked in response, a playful gleam in his eyes. "I'd gladly take the message for you." He whispered taking a step closer until he was right by her ear. "But I'm afraid, I don't just fuck any girl who walks through that door."
Leaning into him, Caroline let her lips brush his skin before hovering near his ear. "It is a good thing I'm not just any girl." She flirted with a sultry tone. The blonde was channelling Katherine for this. She knew how to flirt, but her roommate knew how to seduce. And apparently, it was working.
He pressed his body up against hers, allowing her to feel his hard muscles hiding under his clothes. "I'm not that kind of guy, Caroline."
"Your physical response tells me otherwise, sir." The baby vampire pushed her thigh against the man's crotch, feeling its hardened state through his pants. She bit her upper lip and looked him in his eyes. She contemplated what she was about to do to this complete stranger. But meeting his eyes, seeing the lust that matched her own, she didn't know if she could walk away from this.
Grabbing his back with both hands, she closed the gap between their lips. He responded as quickly as she'd done it. She assumed that he just hadn't been laid in awhile and that he was relieving tension as much as she was. Her arms snaked out from under his arms and grasped the back of his neck. Her fingers tangled in his short hair and dug in.
His lips parted, allowing her access to his mouth. Sliding her tongue in, she exploded with his taste. Whiskey rested on the surface of his own tongue, but she could also taste something else. What was it? Peanut butter, definitely peanut butter. It mixed well with the alcohol for some odd reason.
Caroline hoped that her taste wasn't bad. She had not had time to brush her teeth since yesterday when Damon had unceremoniously caused her to leave. Though, if her breath was gross, he didn't seem to care in the slightest. He just returned her kisses as ferociously as she gave them.
Elijah felt like he should stop. He did not know this girl and she didn't know him. Hell, she didn't even know his name. He was better than this. At least, he should be. Either one of his siblings could come home at any minute, same with Hayley. And what would they see? The 'noble' brother playing tonsil hockey with some stranger that had originally come to do this to Klaus.
He didn't stop, though. He didn't know why. Was it because he couldn't or simply because he didn't want to. He knew he was horny, but that did not give him the excuse to act like a teenage boy in a porno. But he still didn't cease, and he wasn't going to. The original couldn't explain the reason, he just wasn't going to stop.
Wrapping her arms around his back, Caroline's hands grasped between his shoulder blades and yanked her closer. She concluded that her new partner was a vampire, or he could hold his breath for an unnaturally long time. So it was the former.
She could sense some pull on his part, maybe he was changing his mind. Instead, he walked the blonde backwards without breaking their kiss. Her back pressed up against what felt like the other side of a sofa. Her front pressed against the sexy stranger. In just a few days, she was having two scandalous hookups. One with her female roommate and now with this complete and utter stranger whose name she didn't even know.
Without any hesitation, Caroline reached under her little white skirt and yanked the matching panties down to her ankles. Elijah broke away from the kiss and smirked at her. He hoisted her up onto the top of the couch as she pulled off his belt and worked on the zipper. Much to her annoyance, it stuck and she didn't know how he felt about her ripping it.
Elijah grabbed her hands and pushed them away. Her eyes widened, wondering if he changed his mind. Instead of leaving, he undid his pants for her and took out his erect cock. Caroline gasped and bit her upper lip in shock.
"Oh my," She whispered heavily, "It's so big." Her eyes were as large as they could get as she stared lustfully at him.
"I want it inside of me." The blonde consented.
He placed himself right at her entrance, mentally grinning at how soaked she was. Gently, he slid the tip in, watching his partner tilt her head back and sigh. Then, with more force than intended, he shoved his entire length inside of Caroline's slick pussy.
"Oh, fuck!" She screamed, wrapping her legs his waist and pulling him forward.
Claiming another kiss from her, Elijah began to thrust inside of her. Her heavy breathing and moans against his mouth a sign that he was doing good. He pumped in and out slowly, very slowly, feeling her from the inside as whines emitted from the girl.
"Faster," Caroline demanded, breaking from the kiss.
"As you wish." He huskily said as he picked up the pace.
In, out, in out. Speeding up, he slammed into her as fast as he could. The both moaning loudly and the sound of skin hitting skin echoed throughout the large house. Elijah was suddenly glad that nobody was home. The noise level was getting higher and higher.
"Oh fuck, oh god. Yes!" The blonde vampire chanted out a series of moans and curse words. Her voice was like music to his ears and encouraged him to keep the tempo.
Through her shirt, he used one hand to roughly massage her breasts. The other hand gripped her hip to hold her in place as he fucked her hard. The girl's moaning was beginning to get high pitched and he knew that an orgasm was building up. His own was coming too, but he attempted to hold it off for his partner to finish first.
Slamming harder into her, he watched Caroline throw her head back and roll her eyes inward. Her body began to convulse both inside and out as her orgasm hit her. Elijah watched her orgasm come and go before he allowed himself to let go. His breathing got heavier and more spaced out as he felt his own orgasm build.
"Cum inside me." The blonde whispered in his ear before giving him a wet kiss. Almost as soon as she said it, he felt himself release his entire load into her body.
The both stood/sat there, leaning into each other with deep breathing. Caroline rested her head on her partner's shoulder and breathed deeply.
"That was fun." She said with a smile. He nodded back with a laugh as he fixed his pants.
Both vampires heard the door open and someone walk in. Freaking out, Caroline hopped off the couch and pulled her soaked panties back up. Elijah just finished adjusting his clothes as Rebekah walked in.
"You won't believe how crowded Rousseau's is tod- Caroline?" The blonde Original froze in her tracks as soon as she turned the corner. "Caroline, what are you doing here?" She questioned angrily before turning to her brother. "What is she doing here, Elijah?"
Elijah, the name sounded familiar to Caroline. Oh shit. Elijah was Klaus' older brother. She fucked Klaus' brother. Oh god, no. Katherine was going to kill her and then Klaus was going to. She should have figured it out earlier, with all of the things said about him. Wears a suit, dapper, extremely sexy. Yep, she was so dead.
With a deep breath, she answered Rebekah; "I was looking for Klaus. Elijah tells me that he isn't here. I guess I'll be going." Caroline all but ran out of both the room and the house.
xXx
It wasn't too hard to find Katherine upon leaving the old plantation. She was in Rousseau's trying to buy herself a drink, looking very dishevelled. The blonde walked up and sat down next to her, quickly ordering drinks for the two of them.
"Rough day, Kat?" Caroline questioned tiredly. The brunette looked at her with a smirk.
"Actually, it wasn't so bad. I saw Klaus, and got him to agree to protect me from Silas. And I got us a hotel room to stay in." Katherine explained, recounting what she had done since they parted ways.
"That's good. I instead got to talk to Rebekah and meet Elijah." The blonde replied.
"Ahh, how did that work out?" Asked the doppelganger.
"It was surprisingly really fun." Caroline smiled wide, accepting her drink from the blonde bartender, and taking a long sip.
Katherine decided to not even ask what the vampire meant by that. Instead, she took her own drink and grinned remembering her day's events.

A female he shouldn’t even look at, one who shakes the precarious foundations of all that he is, and one who’s determined to walk the edge of danger.
All her life, Echo Carter wanted “normal”, an impossible feat given that she can see demons. Drawn back to the alleys of New York, she’s determined to hunt down the one responsible for the death of her friend. And no man, no matter how sexy, will stop her. Until she discovers a horrifying truth about herself, forcing her to turn to the one man she should avoid. Aethan.
But when two stubborn wills collide, a dangerous passion ignites…
As evil closes in, Aethan has to overcome his darkest fears and claim Echo as his. If he doesn't, he just could lose her to a far more sinister fate…
Absolute Surrender is the first book in the Fallen Guardians series by Georgia Lyn Hunter. There were many point of views given through this story. We definitely needed some. Others? Not so much, and I got characters confused with one another, especially in the beginning. Some had similar names, some had more than one name, some changed into the appearance of others, and there were so many of them thrown at you at once. So, it took me several chapters to get everyone straight. The story itself was pretty darn good though. Situations and places were described vividly, making it so easy to visualize, and it did this without being wordy, which I loved.
I'm not too sold on Echo. She can kick some major butt, but at the same time, she has absolutely no sense of self preservation and kept putting herself in danger whenever she had a hissy fit, which was often.
Aethan was a fantastic character. He had strength and brains. I loved how he cared for Echo no matter what.  I'm still not sure what he is supposed to be. Angel? Demon? Something entirely different? Alien? I'm interested in knowing more about some of his friends too.
This was one of those books that is drenched in tension and anticipation. There was so much heat between Echo and  Aethan ... my goodness! Be ready to take many cold showers or keep your significant other close by. You'll need them, and they'll thank you for it.
Echo Carter wrapped her arms around her waist and paced along the top step in front of the well-lit cathedral, trying to keep warm while she waited for Kira. The chilly sea breeze stung her nostrils as she debated going back to her car and cranking up the heater to full blast. But being trapped in the vehicle for a half hour? Ugh. She far preferred the cold. It helped ease the dull ache in her temples. Her head still felt heavy and fuzzy from her restless night. Dreams she didn’t want to remember throbbed in her mind, so she concentrated on a tugboat gliding over the ominous waters of the East River. A streak of lightning raced across the dark skies, briefly enveloping everything in a portentous silver light. The night wind stole under her denim jacket and beneath her sweater like an icy caress. She buttoned up the front and slid her hands into her pockets. Her fingers wrapped around the two stones she carried around like talismans, their warmth seeping into her. But it wasn’t enough. She seriously needed a distraction to clear her head and rid her body of the chill. Her cell beeped. Eagerly, she retrieved the phone from her pocket and sat on her backpack, avoiding the cold cement step, only to find it was a text from Damon. Away on business. Get Kira to stay with you. You know why. Call if you need me. P.S. Don’t do anything stupid. She rolled her eyes. Everyone had bad dreams. It didn’t mean she needed a babysitter. Damon’s postscripts, however, never changed, even if his messages did. The way her guardian hovered, you’d think she was thirteen instead of twenty-three and living on her own. But she couldn’t blame him. All that mattered to her was finding Tamsyn’s killer and ending the son of a bitch. That had to be the stupid thing Damon worried about. A man, rushing past her, snagged her attention. Echo watched him skid to a halt. Above average height, this one embodied the perfect male, with bronzed skin, dark, wavy hair, and a sculptured jaw. Black shades covered his eyes. He made a U-turn, giving her a closed mouthed smile. Well now, she had asked for a distraction. Sliding the phone back into her pocket, she rose to her feet. She’d deal with this before Kira got back, and she knew the perfect spot for this little rendezvous. With a casual, seductive sway of her hips, she tossed him a sultry look over her shoulder and glided toward the back of the cathedral. He followed. Of course he’d follow. They always did. She popped her jacket buttons free as she rounded the rear of the building and headed for the alcove where the statue of an angel with massive wings stood. When he grabbed her from behind and slammed her against the cathedral wall, she sucked in a breath, pain jarring up her arm to her shoulder. She twisted around. The acrid stink of sulfur flooded her nostrils. Bile rushed to her throat, telling her exactly what this thing was. “Ah, little mortal. So good of you to choose this place—” He stopped, confusion flickering across his face, frowned, and leaned in to sniff her. Oh yeah, her cursed pheromones always worked in her favor. They threw them off track and gave her the crucial edge she needed. But the black sludge that coated her hands as she held him off warned her this one had been wounded. “You smell different. Must taste.” His tone slurred. Something wet and rough slithered along her neck. Crap! The slimy saliva on her skin sent a shudder of revulsion through her. But she didn’t let that distract her. Once his foul-breathed mouth claimed hers, life as she knew it would be over. Nope, not happening. She had no plans to die at the hands of this fiend. “Pity I have to cut our fun short.” His face cracked into a menacing smile to reveal pointy canines. “Your light’s mine.” That’s what he thought. “If you want it, come and claim it.” The familiar words rolled out of her mouth. Darn, she had to stop watching The Lord of the Rings. But Aragon was so— Argh, kill first, then think about the sexy Aragon—she kneed the demonii hard in the crotch, breaking his hold. Spinning around, she kicked out her leg in a fast sweep, knocking his feet out from under him. He stumbled to the ground. About to go in for what would have been a routine kill, the demonii sprang up. He flung his shades aside. Eerily red eyes flamed with fury. “I’ll drain every drop of your blood before I rip out your soul!” “Promises—promises,” she taunted. He came at her. Echo palmed her dagger and met him head-on. She went in low and rammed the blade into his sternum. The demonii fell to his knees, eyes widening in surprise. “Didn’t see that one coming, did ya?” Vengeance burned in her as she grabbed him by the hair and slashed his exposed throat, severing the carotid artery. Blood, black and thick, gushed out. Her breathing harsh, she let the body fall to the ground. Disappointment burned through her. This fiend hadn’t killed Tamsyn. The stink of the sulfur now coating her skin lacked the coppery, sweet odor of vanilla she was after. No matter. It meant one less evil fiend roaming the streets and robbing the innocents of their souls. The body decomposed and vanished within seconds. No sign remained that the demonii had ever existed. The oily ooze on her dagger had disappeared, too, when a frisson shot through her. The tiny hairs on the back of her neck rose in warning. Oh, hell. More of them. Survival mode on high alert, Echo whipped around in a defensive strike and met steel with steel. The metallic sound reverberated through the cathedral’s garden. The sheer power of the blow vibrated up her hand to her injured shoulder. Pain streaked through her but didn’t slow her down. She attacked. He countered. This one was too strong, too canny. She lunged at him, but he grabbed her in a move that made her head spin and imprisoned her in an ironclad grip against a wall of muscle. It took her a second to realize the stranger had no intention of disarming or hurting her. He merely shielded himself from her attack. Irritated, she glared up. The impact of the man facing her over their crossed daggers hit her like a blow to the stomach. She stumbled back, dragging in lungfuls of air. Wild as rainstorms and earthy as sin, his scent crowded her. She blinked, sure the vision before her was a fantasy induced by her sleep-starved brain. He was so tall, he had to be at least six-seven. His long, leather duster parted to reveal muscular, leather-covered legs. All that black he wore was the perfect backdrop for a wickedly handsome face. The hard, sensual curve of his lips and that focused way he studied her told her he would know every carnal pleasure there was. A tiny shiver of awareness darted up her spine, but she brutally clamped it down. The chilly breeze tossed back strands of his long hair to reveal the glitter of small silver hoops in his ears. But his hair—she’d never seen anything like it. It was as if nature had stroked it with every shade of the blue spectrum then laid a careless dash of ebony between those strands. The air around him shifted. Power rolled off him in aggressive waves. But his eyes held her spellbound—gunmetal gray irises took on streaks of white—a caveat, a warning not to attack him again. Oh, Mr. Goth-man could send out all the signals he liked. She wasn’t easy to intimidate. “Who the hell are you?” she snapped.
Echo Mine (Fallen Guardians #1.5) by Georgia Lyn Hunter Genre: Adult Fiction (Paranormal Romance) First Published:  August 4, 2015 Publisher: GL Hunter
A Fallen Guardian Novella--companion book to Absolute Surrender
After a horrifying incident that left her in a coma for several long months, Echo now has to get used to a different life. As a descendant of a powerful angel, her days waver between training as the new Healer and convincing her mate she’s strong enough to match him in life and in bed.
A surprise date night gives her the perfect opportunity to do both. But plans have a way of coming unraveled. One disaster leads to another, and Echo accepts that nothing in their lives will ever be normal.
But the biggest revelation of the night comes after she kills a dangerous demonii. Sparks fly between her and her mate, proving that normal is most definitely overrated...
Echo, Mine is a novella companion to Absolute Surrender in the Fallen Guardians series by Georgia Lyn Hunter. This is giving us a peek at how Aethan and Echo's life is going since her coma. I don't feel like I got much more information from this story than I already knew from Absolute Surrender. It was almost like a shortened version of Absolute Surrender with them fighting Demonaii and Aethan trying not to touch Echo, but I missed steaminess they had in the first book. I didn't feel it as much. Where'd it go? You'll need to read Absolute Surrender first, otherwise you won't know who's who or what's what.
Absolute Surrender and Echo, Mine by Georgia Lyn Hunter was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
Dim lights cast a sickly, pale glow over the dingy alley, adding to the portentous sensation crawling through Aethan. As if some disaster loomed, one he couldn’t quite get a grip on. He glanced at Blaéz, strolling at his side. The warrior’s calm demeanor revealed nothing. He rolled his shoulders, trying to shrug off his unease. “Something feels off.” “Indeed…” Blaéz murmured as they bypassed several dumpsters lined against the grimy brick wall. The things reeked as if a pack of rats had died there. “You made a decision yet?” “About what?” Blaéz cut him a cool, detached stare. A purple bruise marred his jaw. With his penchant for brutal underground fighting, Aethan wasn’t surprised. “Is it that you really don’t know, or that you haven’t decided?” Aethan frowned. His disquiet hiking in leaps now. “Celt, you talk in riddles. How the hell am I supposed to know what you’re talking about? Did you have a vision or what?” The male’s precog ability was unparalleled. Hell, everything he’d told Aethan several months ago when he’d first met his mate had transpired—shit. Fear twisted his gut. “Is it Echo?” “No.” Blaéz turned back to stare into the night. “No precog needed for this one. But it does indeed concern your mate.” Aethan stopped and pinned his fellow Guardian an annoyed glare. “Just spit it out, man. What the hell is it?” Blaéz slowly faced him. He was as tall as Aethan, a little on the leaner side, and deadlier than a detonating bazooka jammed into one’s mouth with his ability to kill with a thought. But dammit, any slower on the response, and Aethan would probably die of old age! “Heard the females talking. Your mate and her friend, Kira…” “Yeah?” Aethan prompted, clamping down on his teeth to stop from shaking the words out of the warrior. “It’s Echo’s big day next week. Her birthday. Females, from what I’ve seen on TV, get excited about the day. And presents.” Fuuccck! Suddenly feeling faint, Aethan inhaled a lungful of reeking air. This was worse than a damn demonii bolt striking him in the chest. What the hell did he do now? Echo had told him her birthdate some time ago when she’d asked him his, but he hadn’t put much stock into remembering it. Hell, when you live forever, birthdays no longer mattered. He slid his hands into his pants pockets and continued up the alley, trying to think of something amazing for his mate…and came up blank. He really didn’t want to screw this up. “Would you know—” “Google.” “Right—” Aethan broke off. A familiar insidious prickle slithered over his psyche. Demoniis. The turned brethren of demons were on the hunt again, trawling for prey, for mortal souls to replace the dying ones they’d already harvested from humans. Eyes narrowed, he scanned the night air for the source… His heightened hearing caught the faint, pained cry of a female. Trouble. Aethan dematerialized in a scattering of molecules and followed the distressed cry. He took form moments later in The Bowery and tore down the dimly lit alley, tracking the sensation, and skidded to a halt. Blaéz appeared beside him. The abandoned warehouse across the street sat too still, too dark. The icy, malevolent sensation abrading his psyche grew stronger. Beneath it, the darker, coppery odor of blood stung his nose…no, not humans. “What the hell are they up to now?”
