Justice arcana card for the Thousand Roads fanfic Tarot deck event, based on my fanfic Morphic and some overthinking about Dave's relationship to the concept of justice. Some rambling/explanations below (spoilers for the fic).

The Justice arcana is about justice, fairness, truth, honesty, accountability, karma, law, etc. when upright, and about injustice, retribution, corruption, dishonesty and avoiding accountability when reversed. In the Rider-Waite deck, it's depicted as a figure sitting with a set of scales and a sword pointed upward.

On the one hand, Dave cares a lot about truth, justice and fairness, especially in relation to the Pokémorphs, whom he sees as innocents suffering unfairly simply for who they are. On the other hand, they do have darker sides, and he's not at all impartial when it comes to them and has a more difficult time with the idea of karma or accountability or the rule of law when it means they have to suffer for it.

The upright Dave has scales, a blindfold in the style of depictions of Lady Justice, and a gun pointed upward, since that's more the appropriate weapon for this fic. (One site I read noted the sword pointed upward specifically representing impartiality, and I tried to replicate that in this loose way.) Behind him are Will (dead) and Jean (figuratively trapped/imprisoned both in their house arrest and in a strange body), two pure innocents who did nothing wrong that can easily inspire his passion for true justice.

Meanwhile, the reversed Dave is not impartial at all, set on vigilante retribution (did not actually happen in the fic, but is a thing in Groundhog Dave which is still a thing I am working on), and surrounded by Mia (dead) and Gabriel (also figuratively trapped/imprisoned both in their house arrest and in a body ill-suited to life), who are not quite pure innocents who did nothing wrong (they both murdered people during the course of the climax of the story), but hell if Dave won't go to bat for them anyway and be just as inflamed about their fates.
