Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis. Its US label was established in late 1934 by Lewis, Jack Kapp (the first president of the Decca Record company of the USA) and Milton Rackmil, who later became American Decca's president too. In 1937, anticipating Nazi aggression leading to World War II, Lewis sold American Decca and the link between the UK.and US Decca label was broken for several decades. The British label was renowned for its development of recording methods, while the American company developed the concept of cast albums in the musical genre.
Both wings are now part of the Universal Music Group. The US Decca label became MCA Records, which formed half of what is now UMG (Universal Music Group).

Juanita Moore (October 19, 1914 – January 1, 2014) was a film, television, and stage actress. She was the fifth African American actor to be nominated for an Academy Award in any category, and the third in the Supporting Actress category at a time when only one African American actor, Hattie McDaniel in Gone with the Wind (1939), had won an Oscar. Her most famous role was Annie Johnson in Imitation of Life (1959). She was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, the daughter of Ella and Harrison Moore. Her family moved to Los Angeles, where she was raised. She first performed as a dancer, part of a chorus line at the Cotton Club before becoming a film extra while working in theater. She was the vice president of the Original Cambridge Players, who took a Los Angeles production of The Amen Corner to Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theater in April 1965. She was friends with Marlon Brando and James Baldwin. It was she who asked Brando to lend the funds ($75) to Baldwin to write the play. After making her film debut in Double Deal (1939), she had several bit parts and supporting roles in motion pictures through the late 1930s and 1950s. Her performance in the remake of Imitation of Life (1959) as African American housekeeper Annie Johnson, won her a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for the role. When the two versions of Imitation of Life were released together on DVD, one of the bonus features was a new interview with her. She continued to act in film and TV, with a role in The Kid (2000), and guest-starring roles on Dragnet, Adam-12, Marcus Welby, M.D., ER, and Judging Amy. On April 23, 2010, a new print of Imitation of Life (1959) was screened at the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival in Los Angeles. She was married for 50 years to Charles Burris. He was a Los Angeles bus driver and they met when she stepped out in front of his approaching bus. Her grandson is actor/producer Kirk E. Kelleykahn, who is CEO/President of "Cambridge Players – Next Generation", a theatre troupe whose founding members included her. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj46vsbOwvP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Bo Diddley and The Clash on a tour bus during The Clash's 1979 U.S. tour, Diddley was the opening act for them
It might seem like an odd combination for American blues artist Bo Diddley to be hanging out on a tour bus with the British punk rock band, The Clash, but that exactly what this photo, taken in 1979, depicts. Bo Diddley, whose real name was Ellas McDaniel, was an eclectic artist. He incorporated African rhythms, hambone beats, and traditional blues elements into his music. He was a key player in the transformation of rhythm and blue to rock and roll. Because of this, many artists cite Bo Diddley as influencing their own musical styles, including the Beatles, Elvis, the Rolling Stones, and – you guess it – The Clash. When The Clash toured the U.S. in 1979, they invited Bo Diddley to be their opening act.

Ellas McDaniel (born Ellas Otha Bates, December 30, 1928 – June 2, 2008), better known as Bo Diddley, was a guitarist, songwriter, and producer who played a vital role in the move from blues to rock and roll. He is known for his outlandish guitars and his skilled guitar work. Like other blues artists, he took parts of his African-American roots to help shape his music. Diddley wrote songs that varied as much as his sound. He and Chuck Berry did have similar sounds and would often perform together. He opened for The Clash briefly in the late ‘70s and early '80s. He enjoyed himself and was flattered that the band and fans wanted his music. He wondered why they had such prominent speakers blasting loud music. He knew that would damage their hearing but laughed it off. In 2003, he was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2017, he was inducted into The Blues Hall of Fame. Bo Diddley has significantly influenced artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and many blues-rock artists in the '60s to mid-'70s. His classic rock and roll sound allowed him to open for The Clash because they respected his music. Fans will always love his music, and he still influences artists today.
