For those of you who wanted my epic Mickey rambles

this started out about 3-2 years ago as sketches and drawings of characters I thought that deserved to be in wasteland. I have acquired a whole bunch of characters since then, couple of which derive from concepts and have personalized designs. I had also wrote what would essentially be my personal take on an epic Mickey three, seeing as how I thought the franchise was dead and I wanted to expand it on my own. I thought it would be fun to share this little story seeing as how there’s a small resurgence and I was probably going to do it anyway because I really like these characters of mine. But to do that your going to need a lot of context so here we go-

Yensid created wasteland as a place for forgotten creations under the Disney property to stay and live. When the thinner disaster happened that plan was ruined, thusly wasteland itself was left in shambles and could no longer do what it was made for

But what does this mean/do?

Well

And wasteland stayed in that broken state, left to rot, up until the first game, where an outside force (Mickey, it’s Mickey) screws around with it again. Wasteland starts to heal, at this scene and time right here

Nothing happens right away, or at least to the characters’ knowledge, and Epic Mickey 2 happens.

Then 11 years pass. Mickey during this time has become distant, and Oswald has been living with his family to the fullest and rebuilding, even beginning deconstruction on Mickeyjunk mountain. Nothing much has changed, or at least it hasn’t up until a year ago, when blotlings reappeared (I have a reason I swear-). Not only that.

New faces have been popping up, without anywhere to live, and in droves.

The Thinner ocean is slowly becoming decontaminated. And without much of a warning.

Wonderland rises up from the thinner.

Disney's The Gremlins Over the Years

Chapter 1: Gremlins (Part 1)

Due to the recent events with Epic Mickey Rebrushed, I thought of making a series of posts dedicated to Disney's infamous characters from the canceled WWII movie The Gremlins. The character designs of these guys have changed many times during the concept art process and over the years. Today, this is a collection of male Gremlin designs. The female Gremlins were called the Fifinellas, which I will get to them in the next post. For those discovering this, in summary, Disney was making WWII movies and shorts for the war effort. They were going to adapt Roald Dahl's first book about these guys, and several things like people getting tired of war movies and figuring out how to make the movie, which was canceled. I'm making these posts for fun and to help give artists ideas for their OCs and fanart. I would post some sample pictures and a minor breakdown in each post. I might miss some because there is so much, so this is just a handful of pictures and photos I collected over the years. We really need to make a Disney Gremlin's Wiki.

Fun Fact: Bill Justice, a Disney animator and engineer, created many concept art and book illustrations. These posts are dedicated to him. Anyway, let's get started!

Early Concept Art: Bill Justice's early versions of the Gremlins that were later used for the Cosmopolitan version of the story. Shout out for ZOLTAR'S FORTUNE on eBay posting the Photocopies.

Cosmopolitan Magazine (1942): The earliest release of "The Gremlin" story was in the December 1942 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. Someone posted the full article on the site, but I might do another post for each illustration. So stay tuned for that!

Concept Art of the guys we recognize: These would eventually be the final book and promotion designs.

The (Controversial) Life-Saver Ad (1943): AKA the ad Roald Dahl hated, but Walt Disney thought differently.

Dell War Heroes (April 1943): This is a sample from a six page adaptation of the story that was featured in a Dell War Heroes comic book. The writer and artist are unknown.

Disney's The Gremlins Book (June 1943): Here is one of Bill Justice's colored paintings from the book. I highly recommend looking through all the paintings from the book because Bill Justice does justice to these guys!

Walt Disney Comics and Stories #33 (June 1943): In this two page adaptation, a new group of pilots believed the Gremlins were fairytales. Jokes on them since what they said enraged the Gremlins that they mess with the guys.

King Features Syndicate: In this one page story, this comic is a quick introduction to the characters, the Gremlin, and why they're attacking the Royal Air Force setting up the story. (Comic found in chroniquedisney)

Donald Vs. The Gremlins (July 1943): The Crossover we would get years later by Walt Kelly.

Walt Kelly's Comics (July 1943-1944): For a year, Walt Kelly would make 8 comics about Gremlin Gus or both Gremlin Gus and two widgets getting in trouble at the airfield.

Storyboard Short (1943): This is a sample of a 1943 storyboard when the production went from feature film to short film.

Disneyfied Gremlin: This is a Model Drawing showing how far into production they were getting before getting scrapped. Later on, concept art was made of the Gremlins to have more of a Disney style. I even noticed the design in the storyboard, too. I'm glad we didn't get this style of characters. But I do love the poses.

oh I'd love to share, and i'll do my best in explaining it!! it's a story of several odd twists and turns, but it's a passion project me and @ody-and-fanatu have been writing together for almost 2 years!

The Great Gremlin Quest, or GGQ for short, is our own version of the 1940's book of The Gremlins! while several important characters of the books and old gremlin media have their own importance to the lore, they are actually not the main focus of the plot.

deep in the forest, beneath the trees and far away from other civilization, exists a lone village of gremlins living in tiny houses, with manners and appearances not too different from our own. in fact, they were the gremlins that were just like how we'd imagined them, with those matching, shabby uniforms and different colours to their skin ranging through all the colours of the rainbow! but, unlike those stories we'd been told... they weren't really happy at all.

you see, there'd been a horrible obscurantism that happened a long time ago. they had a leader, a rotten one. the older leader, one who's name had been long forgotten, had ruled this village with an iron fist, being in power until a brave gremlin known as Jacqueline put his foot down, and began a revolution with friends by his side.

through a long fight within this village, opposing sides becoming bitter towards each other. jack fought the one in power, only with the promise that if the leader lost, he'd give up power and be banished.

he agreed, he lost.

as the revolution had been a success, the leader left with half of the population by his side, the other half glad to see him leave.

but even with good reasons and success in taking their power back, it wasn't easy to fix this system. they tried, they found something that was good, but they lived in stress and gloom for a dozen years. with no recollection of a world before the reign of their old leader.

this was until a curious day in the month of september, when a young artistic fifinella named Ody stumbled into an unfamiliar gremlin in the forest, unlike anyone or anything she'd ever seen before. a young traveller claiming to be from a completely different world and that his name was Dirigeable. he came with tales of life that sounded like they were from a storybook, his personality as bubbly and sweet as honey. but he was stranded, the machine he came with to this world having been broken in a fall.

the young fifinella invited him in her home. and as this ray of sunshine came to the village, as it always does, darkness followed; and began to loom on the village once again, as another gremlin approached the village, a familiar face from the day's of the leader's reign. No longer resembling a gremlin, but rather... A monster.

for challenging the darkness that's coming forth, they know they can't do this alone. so, with the lead of their odd new friend, the curious fifinella, the past revolutioner and current leader Jacqueline and his assistant Lewis must go on a quest into the unknown, and try to find their way to the other world, to seek help from the gremlins which live there.

this is just a "short" description of the beginning of this whole universe we've built. It's full of characters, side-plots, lovely moments, even horror and despair.

Anyways, let's jump into THE FUTURE!

Canceled Live Action/Animated Project (1992): Jumping forward into the future, Jerry Rees, director of The Brave Little Toaster, and Steve Leiva were trying to make a feature based on the original story with live action with animated gremlins like Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The illustrators for the project were Steve Moore and Frans Vischer. Again, GLAD they didn't we didn't get this style of the characters since they're far from the original designs. Here are two samples by Steve Moore.

Return of the Gremlins (2008): When Disney made those terrible DVD sequels, Dark Horse and Disney made a deal to reprint the original book, make merchandise, and release a three-part comic sequel in 2008. The first cartoonist was Dean Yeagle, but he could not finish, so DreamWorks artist Fabio Laguna came in to do the final issue. In this story, Old Pilot Gus's grandson, Young Gus, goes to Old Gus's home in Brittan to handle the property sale. But SURPRISE! It's inhabited by the Gremlins that Old Gus befriended during WWII. Chaos ensues...

Epic Mickey (2010): Now, the moment you've all been waiting for, the game that introduced most of us to Disney’s Gremlins. Here are the variants we remember split into two groups: 3D Gameplay and 2D Cutscenes. Going forward, some of these pictures are from the Epic Mickey Wiki.

Epic Mickey Comic (2010): In the 64 page-long graphic novel, the only Gremlin character who appeared in the comic was Gremlin Gus.

Epic Mickey (2012): In the sequel, we get more variants of the Gremlins and a Gremlin Prescott redesign.

Epic Mickey Comic (2012): Gremlin Gus was joined by Gremlin Prescott and Gremlin Jamface.

Donald Duck #18 Comic (2015 IDW): This is the crossover we have wanted since the Comic Cover. In a translated European Swedish comic of 'Rue Brittania!', Donald and Fethry get a new assignment: travel back in time to WWII and face the Gremlins to de-gremlin the airfield. Artists: Pencils and Ink by Flemming Andersen and Colors by Digikore Studios.

There's a lot more I could add, but we would be here all day. If this post gets popular enough, I will do more on the side before the game comes out. If there are changes to the Gremlins in the Reboot, I'll make a Part 3. Hope this post is a helpful source for old and new Gremlin and Epic Mickey fans alike!

🕴and  think that these are half and to which I pay more attention.

Favorite: Robotron Von Kleist, He is one of my oldest characters, i created it when I was 13 years old, at that time I wanted to do an animated series and he was the villain of the series, eventually (and obviously) I left the project but I kept him because  I love him design, and in the end he became my favorite son.

Comfort: Mr Blossom (funfact is my rl name), You know, imagining my 70s homosexual secret love plot with Dr Nefario gives me years of life.

Sona: Black Wolf It is the second character that i created when he just started drawing and with which i stopped doing sonic recolors, he went from being a secondary character to literally being my representation on the internet. I am very ashamed to always tell his lore, but it all boils down to "hellsing with Backrooms"

Favorite Desing: Vil Haze He became my second favorite son, and I'm just so proud of all the aesthetics and lore I've created for him.

Oldest Still Active: Mark Wilson I have this habit of making an effort with the stories of my characters and Mark is no exception, He is the main character of one of my most vicious projects, writing a book.

Newest: Haru If I had a coin for each character that I have created from my hyperfixations, I would have already paid the foreign debt of my country. The whole point of Haru is that he's an otaku...and he fights with Fanboy because Otakus vs Comics fan.

Deserves more love: Rubidio the  Fifinella, she is an oc from Epic Mickey, I create her together with my businessman smurf, its story is very simple since it is more like a comedy than something serious.

Need a rework: Hux and Hax both created for the Rayman fandom, but like Rubidio and Business Smurf they are just for comic relief and don't have a very well built lore.

Kin: Count Black Latte, The truth is that the more time passes, the more traits of myself I give to Latte, He's pretty much also like a comfort character at this point.
