The sheer amount of people I’ve seen go from disco elysium to bg3 is so funny
The joys of fucked up old men that cannot be fixed + a literal hellscape of an environment to try survive in, not even live

on the topic of “does christianity exist in Elysium,” the word tzaarath (with the root of the word being Hebrew) comes from the bible. in-game it’s either/both a prion disease and a “highly-infectious microorganism” (which I don’t believe joyce doesn’t know that they’re not the same, so what’s her angle here) that caused encephalitis and madness and was the spark for the revolution
in the biblical context it’s usually translated as the state of “being struck with leprosy” (though not the disease that is called “leprosy” today, it was more of a catch-all for any “skin defilement”), characterized by light patches on the hair or skin, burns or boils, and lesions. the presence of tzaarath signals an impurity in the individual that needs to be cleansed through what’s essentially a quarantine and then some purifying rituals
i’m not christian and i’m definitely not a bible scholar but i thought the use of this word was interesting in-game, especially since a common interpretation is that tzaraath is a punishment for sin that is only cured through repentance and forgiveness-- things that are purifying.
so in the context of DE, if the tzaraath pandemic was the spark that set the revolution aflame, was the revolution the cleansing ritual? was it an attempt made by revachol to cast off the shadow of capitalism and the brutality and horror that its people were subjected to? will there be a new tzaraath? maybe harry’s memory loss is the beginning of this new tzaraath, and it’ll happen to others, a new entroponetic pandemic that’ll trigger le retour and cast off the moralintern and the coalition’s influence over revachol
i truly believe that nothing in this game is an accident, especially not coming from a character as manipulative and careful as joyce. the framing of tzaraath as either a prion disease or a virulent microorganism is interesting to me-- prion diseases are unstoppable, and highly-infectious microorganisms that can reach your brain are dangerous and hard to treat.
maybe tzaraath is an in-game metaphor for revolutionary sentiment-- once the notion enters your brain that you are dissatisfied with the world that you are in, that the people in power don’t care for you as much as they pretend they do, it’s hard to get it out. it’s bound to elicit some strong emotions, entering a cycle of critical thought and even more anger and disillusionment, until eventually, it’ll explode outwards into action

I'm tryna stay away from spoilers so don't tell me but for y'all's amusement, here's what I've gathered about Disco Elysium through dash osmosis:
It's p good
The dialogue has no middle sliders
There's two main guys, an annoying one and Kim
Unfortunately, Harry Annoying is the one you play as 😔
The guys are gay for each other btw
There is at least one crime. You may have to solve it?
Set in Europe I think
Commulism?
Existential dread
