Simon is DEFFFF a GIRL DAD.

Simon and you had identical twin girls, and THEY ARE THE LIGHT OF HIS LIFE.

Simon would do anything for his girls.

tea party with stuffed animals? done.

painting his nails? done.

when Soap asks him why his nails are bright pink when he takes his gloves off, Simon just gives him a glare in response, and Soap decides not to press further.

When he gets home after a mission, and his girls are already tucked into bed, Simon goes into their bedroom to press soft kisses against their foreheads.

If one of the twins had a rough day at school, he would always be the first one to comfort them, which is odd because he's a big, broody, war machine, but he has a heart goddamnit.

He would name his twins: Sage and Saffron.

"They keep calling me the 'other Sage', dad." Saffron would tell him one day after a rough day at school.

"You're my Saffy, sweets. dont let 'em mess with ya." Simon would reply.

if one of the twins got sick, you and him would nurse her back to health, but soon enough, the other twin had the same damn thing, so now, you both are stuck dealing with moody, sick, identical twins.

"Dont wanna take my medicine, dad." Sage would argue.

"Dont care, love. gotta take it." Simon would reply after an hour of arguing with her, getting her to try and take her medicine. Saffron on the other hand, she had taken it instantly, no matter how bad it tasted.

AND OHHH GODDD. if Soap were to ever find out that Simon had twin girls at home, and he was really a big softy behind closed doors, THE TEASING WOULD NEVER END.

Soap would tell anyone he came in contact with.

"Y'know, the Lt. has little twin girls? he treats them like princesses. he's a softy under all that mess." Soap would tell everyone.

And dont even get me started when he meets you and the twins for the first time.

Immediately takes on the role of "Uncle Johnny". Price would be "Papa Price", and Gaz would be "Uncle G", cause the twins couldnt stop calling him Gas instead of Gaz.

"They'll get the accent soon enough." Soap tried convincing Simon that the twins would get his scottish accent if he spent enough time with them, but Simon immediately shut that down.

Simon didnt want his precious girls around anything military related.

Simon had to pick the girls up from school one day, and the other parents couldnt stop staring at him because he was in full uniform, having left from base.

Simon's uniform would definently make the younger kids cry. I would cry too if i saw a 6'4", muscular, british guy in a skull mask and military uniform and tactical gear.

Simon did feel bad though.

“awh, such a romantic moment” said natalie while rolling her eyes as she saw you and lottie, your best friend, talking in a hushed tone, probably 'flirting' like nat thought, when in reality you were asking lottie for advice on how to ask nat out for doomcoming . . . “you know what would be a romantic moment? this, do you wanna be my partner for the doomcoming?please?baby?” you asked out of the blue with an awkward smile, but hey! it was lottie's ideas, she was the one who told you to be yourself.

sassy loser girlfailure princess who's jealous and needs attention 24/7 or else she'll die ( she's just like me ) , of course she'll never let you go without reassurance and an explanation + an apology paragraph.

“when did you stop wanting me to be your girlfriend? how is travis more important than me now?” jackie asked frustrated as she stomped her feet a bit with her hands on her lips, looking at you impatiently. “baby.. he ate his brother's heart..” — “okay an- oh. yeah, i remember now, okay! i love you then, tell me if you need help with comforting him” she smiled and pecked your lips.

jealous shauna is your worst enemy, she wouldn't even talk, she'd just bottle up all of her jealousy until she finally snaps.

seeing you hugging with van was what made shauna lose her temper, she tried to keep her calm, seeing you and van everywhere with each other, talking, laughing, saying inside jokes that no one understood but you two— and now hugging? storming off and grabbing you by the hand, leading you out of the cabin, you knew you were fucked. “can you tell me what the fuck is going on with van?” shauna said in an angry tone, her brown eyes intensely staring at you. "we're stranded in the wilderness..i can't be only talking to you?i have to... communicate with other people too in order to survive? besides what's up with you and taissa? running off in the woods like you're romeo and juliet or whatever bullshit you're doing there!" and it just turns into a whole argument that none of you ever apologize for, but it'll probs end up with you dead or you two cuddling together.

jealous van is a CONFUSED van, they probably wouldn't even notice it until one night where you're all talking with each other but you don't sit next to them like you always do cause you're sitting next to natalie.

biting their lip, they anxiously took some small steps towards you. “hi baby, can we talk?" and the moment you nod and get up, they drag you in the woods and yap your ear off about the whole situation, only for you to explain that you're still very very very in love with them and that you're just getting the gossip from natalie about her and travis. "oh, okay!" and then they just smooch you all over :(

⋆ taissa turner

just like shauna, this girl is ready to fight at any moment given when she realises somebody's taking HER partner way.

“yeah, it'll be fine, you just need to focus on to who you should pass the ball to at the right moment” you adviced allie before hugging her and giving her shoulder a small pat, not knowing taissa was looking. “you'll do great, now come on, we need to go” you said before running out in the field, allie following closely and— not even an hour later, allie was on the ground, screeching in pain as her leg painfully snapped because of taissa tripping her purposefully, making you gag and cover your eyes at the sight of the blood.

as soon as practice finished, everyone gathered to talk about the incident, and of course you immediately took taissa's side even if she was in the wrong. “listen! im sure she didn't mean to, right baby?” you asked tai, but she stayed silent. “yeah see! she confirmed it!” you defended her again, even if she wasn't even trying to defend her own self. later on, as everyone left, pissed and angry at taissa and at you for picking her side, it was just you and her now.

“why'd you do it?” you asked your girlfriend, playing with the straps of her bag. “she was too close to you and i wasn't going to let her steal you from me— you're mine, and she should know that” she spat out, rolling her eyes before looking at you. “maybe you don't know it either, hm? think i may need to prove it to you” she smirked, dragging you towards the showers in no time.

𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 & 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥

"You need to fight for your love."

In Vincent's head, the words flow right in to fill the void of indecisiveness; as if carried by a wind of reassurance, caressing the side of his face, or maybe patting him encouragely on the back. Is it advice that someone gave to him before? His brother, or maybe his closest friend, William?

Deep inside, he knows it's the right thing to do. Intuition shifts into action, and action dictates placing his hand on the handle; the door gapes and in that thin slit Vincent already sees the silhouette of the one he loves. As doomed as that love might turn out to be; I need to fight for it, the voice behind his shoulder reminds.

With the door closing behind the man, the room is empty once again. The freshly-disturbed airflow makes the curtains sway in the breeze, a nearby balcony forgotten open. Somebody's shadow projects on the curtains with noone around to witness, pushing off the nearby wall; a pair of wings spreading on its back.

Like the Merry Devil of Edmonton, a grin spreads on the man's face as his short flight to the rooftop is over, and his bat-like wings fold again to his body elegantly. Although he has enough reason to wear the smile on his face out of celebration alone, it's more of a greeting extended to the one standing on the other end of the roof.

Shakespeare has never seen an angel gather such a thick negative aura around him. He decides against wasting his hellos for the brunette, as he's busy directing his attention towards the scene taking place in the mansion's garden. Eyes following each movement of his brother as he approaches that girl, determination in his every step. Interfering would be difficult, Theodorus must be knowing that all too well.

Shakespeare approaches, the heavy heels of his demon form's attire announcing noisily his every step; like a warning signal to the angel that Shakespeare cares little of. Anything for watching from the first row.

Hands balling into fists, Theodorus turns around and throws himself at the demon; making him hiss with the electric sparks of the two powers coliding. It's not enough to send him off balance, but he does back away for the time being.

"Stay away from my brother, you vile creature."

"O dearest Theodorus. Your brother is but a lost soul, needing guidance. Thee shouldst thank me. Listening to me makes him so, so much happier."

Happier than when he's listening to you. Happier than when he chooses to stay protected from those difficult emotions.

"You don't want his happiness. You're a twisted son of a bitch who likes the suffering of others."

"My, such words in the dictionary of a creature of the heavens. But truly; if you were an angel like any other, your words would have taken a much stronger hold on poor Vincent."

Blooming like the ugly flower of divine imperfection, Theodorus accepts himself as the brute that will use violence in their conflict.

Shakespare's slender figure swiftly dodges the angel's attacks, his fast movements making him undistinguishable from the dark coat of the surrounding night. He lands crouching behind Theodorus, waving his thin demon tail at him as if he's an angered bull ready to strike at him horns-first. Angels are not supposed to have those, metaphorical or otherwise.

"What's your goal? To see him suffer?"

Shakespeare rises to full heigh again, having not landed a single attack of his own yet. His good eye flashes bright purple, and in the next moment, Theodorus finds himself chained by thorny ropes closing around his body. All struggles proving futile, his lack of angelic power a punishment he deserved for wasting his blessings on unholy words and unholy acts.

"When Vincent suffers, he is able to create great things, Theodorus. Masterpieces. Thou alone shouldst know that best."

Mockingly collecting the brunette's chin, scrapping a long black-painted nail against the skin, Shakespeare gazes into those hate-filled ocean eyes.

"But I'll do share that watching the play dear Vincent puts on for me is not enough; there's nothing sating my hunger like making an angel suffer. My goal is you, Theodorus. I've always, always wanted to see that twisted look on your face. To dirty you. To make those filthy angel wings fall from your back. You'll love being a demon, you're one at soul."

With the thorny ropes cutting into his wings, snow-white feathers make their final dance around Theodorus and land at his feet. The eyes of the demon above him are enchanting; both the one that shines and the one that stays in shadow. The rising emotion inside of him begs him to embrace it; it's the instinct of claiming your true form.

Right now, Vincent would be confessing his love to that girl who came to the mansion, bringing chaos with her. All he tried to do was to protect Vincent from the dangers surrounding him, from the pain of heartbreak that would be too much for his heart.

And to what fate would he lead his dear brother, if he changes his halo for a demon's horns?

"Accept me, Theodorus. Kiss my sin-coated lips. The faster you kill the angelic in you, the less it would hurt."

Summary: Constant headaches made you turn to a boy who's had the longest crush on you, little did he know, you've been wanting to make a move.

The long-haired boy kept roaming through his bag as he looked for the drug that you had asked for. These past few days have been pure hell. The constant headaches got you running for the hills and no pills were helping the pain go away.

"Uh, so I got oxycontin, a small bag of weed but— only if we share it cause, it's the last of what I've got for now," his eyes met yours with a cheeky smile, slightly nervous under your soft glance that kept him on the edge.

You laughed with a grin, "That could work, how much do I owe you?" You sat closer to him, leaning forward to grab the money you had slid into your back pocket.

He smiled, shaking his head as his eyes glanced down at your hand, "Owe? this one is on me," he grabbed the money that you had shoved against his chest gently, "Manners, pretty girl, I don't like repeating myself," he was closer now, his lips brushed against your neck as he slid the money back into your pocket, careful to not touch you in any way to make you uncomfortable.

You could feel your heart racing, his cheap yet manly and intoxicating cologne hit your nostrils at the speed of light. He could feel your breathing change, a satisfied smirk placed on his delicious lips.

"You doing alright? You look at little.." he paused as his eyes caught yours, thumb rubbing your cheek gently, "..pale,"

He knew exactly what he was doing to you, you had given him access to tease you as soon as you had sat next to him in the cafeteria, begging him to meet you after school.

You nodded as you gave him a smile, holding his hand against your tinted cheeks that were bound to melt off at any point if he kept getting any closer.

"Use your words, sweetheart, " he tapped your cheek with two fingers, biting down against his bottom lip as he kept on teasing.

This fucker.

"I'm good," you mumbled, looking away as he kept his soft stare on yours. It was getting too hot, too much for you to even keep yourself together.

And he was good at what he did, there was never a moment where he didn't make you die under his gaze.

His body turned slightly to pull something from his bag. His hand was now occupied with a lighter along with a cigarette, "You know, I just can't quite comprehend something," he started before pressing the end of his lips against the cigarette, inhaling the spearmint flavor and exhaling it in your direction.

The cloud surrounded your face as you looked at him in confusion, "What do you mean?" you asked, furrowing your eyebrows.

He just smiled at your innocence, loving the sweet scent that he craved so dearly, "The y/n yln, is sitting right in front of me, buying drugs, from me." he paused for a second, pointing the cig your way and you grabbed it from his fingers, taking a small hit, "never thought I'd see the day." a slight chuckle left his lips as you coughed, clearly showing him it was your first time.

Your hand moved back and forth as you coughed, laughing as you felt his hand pat your back, "Easy now, I don't wanna kill the girl I've been crushing on since middle school," the words slipped out of his mouth without hesitation.

You could've sworn you heard him curse under his breath at the realization, "What?" you looked in shock, the warm but yet— familiar feeling of heat rising back to your cheeks could be felt.

He stuttered as he tried to come up with an excuse, "Well- no. I meant like, you know, fuck." He looked down and bit his lip as he shook his head, looking back up to look at you with tinted cheeks, "Shit, fuck it. Can I kiss you?"

His hand had tossed away the already wasted cigarette behind you, his two warm hands had cupped your soft cheeks. You couldn't trust your words right now, you couldn't believe it.

Nodding your head slowly, you licked your lips as he closed the gap between the two of you, pressing his soft pink lips against your own gently.

You couldn't think straight as he pulled you closer, moving his lips so deliciously against yours. It was rough yet so gentle as he caressed the side of your neck with his thumb— with the hand that kept you from moving, scared that you'd pull away.

Your hands were frozen against his lap, not wanting to escalate the heated kiss into something else in the woods. Any student could pass by and see—Not that you cared if they did.

He pulled away to catch his breath as he stared down at you with a smile, using his thumb to rub against your bottom lip, "I've been wanting to do that for so long," he mumbles, leaning forward to press a few more kisses to your lips.

You couldn't help but peck back each time, a big smile on your face as you melted into his touch, "What took you so long?"

And though the answer seemed quite obvious to him, you couldn't comprehend what could be so different between the two of you.

"Well, to start— you're definitely out of my league," he pulled back to adjust his pants with a hidden smirk as he looked away for a second.

"Really? that's crazy," you reply, a sudden boost of confidence filling your veins as you continued, "Cause, I remember trying out for the D&D club to get with the leader," you finished with an innocent smile, playing with the rings that sat on his fingers.

He could've sworn he stopped breathing for a second, "Tried out? when?" his posture was much more straight now, head leaning to the side slightly as to why no one ever mentioned this happening.

"A few weeks back, Henderson said I sucked," you reply with a soft laugh, shaking your head at the memory. The curly-haired boy knew their club leader would go too easy on you, they couldn't have that.

"Interesting," he stared down at his hands, deep in thought as he thought of ways he could strangle the boy.

Your hands slid onto his slowly, intertwining them with a smile, "He was right though, I could barely understand what was going on," you defend the poor kid quickly, hoping you didn't throw him into the lion's den with your answer.

"I can teach you," he replied rather quickly, loving the idea of having you around more often.

"I'd love that." you looked up at him, leaning forward to press a gentle peck against his lips once more. He just looked so dreamy and his lips were calling your name as they stared at you all pouty and plump.

With a quick tug to your arm, he had you standing up to your feet before cupping your cheeks once more, "Then we shall begin." his tone was slow and with a smirk, he pulled you along towards his van, holding himself together from freaking out in front of the girl he's been wanting for far too long.

okay so it looks like bobby comes from a religious and military home

his father is def the dominant head of the family. he has a strong presence and his wife seems to be more meek compared to him. very “good christian wife” core. thats not a dig at her, she seems sweet enough, but when general briggs slaps bobby for putting a cigarette in his mouth at dinner, she does nothing about it

laura helped norma with the “meals on wheels program” that laura helped organize. she really does seem like such a golden child

the log apparently saw something the night laura died

god, the way shelly’s face dropped when leo asked about his shirt gave me chills

Alright! For those who don't know, I am a semi-conflicted fan of the Barsoom series, a pulp sci-fi/planetary romance in the 1910s ->. It has some fascinating/fun ideas and characters I love, but especially as the series goes onward it varies wildly in quality.

One of the greatest victims of quality dips is the first novel not focused on the original main characters--Thuvia, Maid of Mars. Thuvia was a side character with a fascinating premise--she'd been a slave in Barsoom's 'heaven' (actually a multi-era religious scam run by Therns--white supremacists, because you can't even escape those on Mars) for thirtyish years, and clearly had a ton of trauma and knowledge banked up from that, so a book focused on her should have slapped... but aside from a few moments, she's just turned into a bland copy of the original FMC for the duration of her book.

One of my most 'idk if this will ever happen in significant capacity, but I will THINK about it' projects is just. rewriting/writing novels spinning off the ideas of the Barsoom series, and Thuvia's novel is the only one I've written bits of so far. I have a huge fondness for her, and she's such an interesting character to examine religious/emotional/sexual trauma through. speaking of

It can't be. She knows it, but that doesn't banish the specter--no matter how many times she replays the memory in her head, wearing it as thin as old silk. The twitch of the gun in her hand, the twitch of her finger that had depressed the button. His mouth open to say something else, something that she'd never know. The crack of the explosion, the hole it had ripped in His face. The convulsive shudder that worked its way through her body, emerging as the word that had hissed from her mouth. Beast.

Not a god. Gods didn't bleed. Gods didn't die.

But in a way He hadn't died, had He? He was still with her. Every man whose face she couldn't see. Every hand that touched her unexpectedly. Every shout from far away enough to become distorted to her ears. The bed that was too soft, because the nights she shared His bed had been worse than the nights she slept on the floor. The way certain men saw her now--saw her and knew, somehow, or that was how it seemed. The apathy and fear that alternately bound and hobbled her--that bound her now, frozen to the spot, merely staring at the stealthy motion in the shadows. Not screaming, not backing away.

Simply watching for the gleam of yellow hair, the flash of a gem.

It follows Luz Schreiber, a new Girl Scout troop leader who's driving some of her new troop to an event in another state when her car hits some spikes in the middle of the woods, then is fully disabled when she turns her back. There's no reception and nothing around for miles... except, she realizes, an summer camp site that's been abandoned since some lunatic beheaded a kid there decades ago. Still, it's the only shelter available, so they head there to hole up as they try and plan how to outsmart their unseen enemy, which the girls whole-heartedly believe is the killer from the camp, back for revenge.

Luz has enough to deal with, trying to keep them safe as they encounter more traps and near-fatal attacks. She doesn't know how to tell them, or if she should tell them something that might make them scatter, put them all in danger--that she knows their theory is wrong. That she was the lunatic who beheaded someone at camp decades ago.

If you're familiar with Sleepaway Camp, yes, this is inspired by Sleepaway Camp, although my Angela-derived character only committed one, semi-accidental murder. If you don't know Sleepaway Camp, the villain is a quiet weird girl named Angela who's revealed to be trans at the end of the movie for shock value, after getting naked with a boy she then kills, presumably, we're supposed to assume, for reacting badly.

The one scene I've written so far, which I'd post except it's 2 pages and i can't excerpt any part neatly lol, is Luz reflecting on her version of that incident--wherein the boy she revealed herself as trans to attempted to drown her in the lake, and she wound up killing him in self-defense. I absolutely love the gimmick I did with it, which is that Luz has his life flash before her eyes as she's drowning instead of her own--as in, she sees how events will unfold, how he'll get away even without jail time and get married and have a good life while she's completely erased from history, and it's deciding no, fuck that that gives her the strength to fight back.

LANCE IS A COMPLICATED CHARACTER JUST LIKE EUGENE AND I NEED PEOPLE TO TALK ABOUT HIS DYNAMICS WITH OTHER CHARACTERS LIKE ANGRY AND CATALINA BECAUSE OMG I CANNOT THINK OF A CARTOON THAT WROTE ABOUT A PROBABLY QUEER BLACK MAN ADOPTING AN ASIAN DAUGHTER AND A DAUGHTER THAT'S. WHATEVER TEH FUCK CATALINA HAS GOING ON. BUT HE'S SO SPECIAL??? HE'S AMAZING??? ALSO THE FACT THAT TEENAGERS ARE VERY RARELY ADOPTED AND HE SAID FUCK THIS AND TOOK THEM IN ANYWAYS BECAUSE HE REMEMBERS BEING A TEENAGER ON HIS OWN TOO

LITERALLYYLYKYLYKY OH MY GOD???? NO BECAUSE. no bc kiera and catalina parallel lance and eugene as kids almost EXACTLY imo and its SO important in a sense that like. ok i don’t think the rise of flynnigan rider is canon necessarily bc that book was a mess but lance and eugene’s interactions in it are so GOOD it drives me crazy.

basically lance at that age (like 11-12) is portrayed as a kinda shy and anxious kid who tends to keep to himself but is really nerdy and smart and well aware of his surroundings. he’s still a kid and he can be dumb and impulsive but he’s emotional and clings to people who show him affection. eugene’s the opposite, he’s super charismatic and talks his way out of things easily but he never really thinks before he acts and it gets him into trouble really easily. but together they balance each other out, and eugene is super protective of lance bc he knows he’s the more shy and cautious one.

they’re such a good team bc they balance out each others strengths and weaknesses perfectly. but lance actually has a point where he felt betrayed by eugene and it hit so hard despite the plot being so messy. LIKE HE GENUINELY TOLD HIM OFF AND STOOD UP FOR HIMSELF AND IT WAS SO GOOD?? and then theres the whole alleged scrapped lance and eugene backstory episode which might not even be real but its CANON TO ME EVEN IF ITS NOT BC THATS HOW GOOD IT IS. yk the one where eugene almost got adopted and lance was afraid of being left behind so he broke a window and blamed it on eugene so the couple wouldn’t want him anymore? Yeah. Yeah i think about that a normal amount actually!

AND ITS BC. ITS THE SAME DYNAMIC KIERA AND CATALINA HAVE. WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT. AND I THINK ITS CLEAR THAT THE REASON LANCE CHANGED SO MUCH FROM THAT POINT TO WHEN WE SEE HIM IN THE SERIES IS BECAUSE…. EUGENE WASN’T THERE ANYMORE. THINK ABT IT. THEY BOTH BALANCED OUT EACH OTHERS FLAWS. LANCE WAS SHY AND CAUTIOUS BUT EUGENE WAS RECKLESS AND CHARISMATIC. WHEN THEY GOT SEPARATED LANCE HAD TO TAKE ON A SIMILAR PERSONA BECAUSE THE SHY KID HE USED TO BE WOULD BE KILLED IF HE GOT LEFT ON HIS OWN!!!

LANCE SAW HIM AND EUGENE IN KIERA AND CATALINA. THE QUIET AND CAUTIOUS BUT CALCULATED ONE WHO’S ALSO A LITTLE SHIT AND THE RECKLESS AND CHARISMATIC PROTECTIVE ONE. HE SAW THEM TOGETHER AND HE REMEMBERED WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM AND EUGENE. HOW THEY GOT TORN APART. AND HOW HE HAD TO CHANGE HIMSELF TO SURVIVE. HE TOOK THEM IN BECAUSE HE KNEW IT WOULD HAPPEN TO THEM TOO.

Godddd I’M SO. there are so many traits and little details abt him that just got passed off as jokes or one liners in the series but they SHOULDN’T BE. GODDD HES A CHEF. HE LOVES FOOD AND COOKING HES A THEATER KID!! HE LOVES LITERATURE AND HE LOVES MUSIC!!! I THINK HE LOVES THEATER AND DOESN’T FEEL AS AFRAID IN THAT SENSE BECAUSE HE TRULY FEELS LIKE A DIFFERENT PERSON ON STAGE. ITS WHY HE DOESN’T LIKE SINGING AS HIMSELF BUT HE’D ABSOLUTELY KILL IT IN A PLAY.

and god it annoys me so much bc whenever anyone DOES talk about how lance got done dirty in the series nobody actually brings up WHY….. i love this series too but we cant just sweep the issue under the rug. theres a reason they only played him for comedic relief and made him look childish and stupid IT’S RIGHT THERE ITS BECAUSE HES BLACK. AND YES WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. I LOVE THAT THEY HAD HIM ADOPT THE GIRLS IN THE END AND IT WAS SO SWEET BUT HE WAS STILL THE BLACK BEST FRIEND TROPE AND HE DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER!!!

he’s not stupid in fact i genuinely think he’s the most emotionally mature out of the entire cast. i think he came to the orphanage as a young child rather than from birth and he had a mom who he loved very much and who taught him to manage his emotions well and bc of it he’s very in tune with himself!! and he’s very much the dad friend!!! he’s just a silly guy and he wants to make his friends laugh but sometimes he ends up sacrificing himself for others too much!!! and he needs to care about himself too!!!

God i just. I GET SO INSANE ABOUT HIM HE DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER. GTRRRRAAASGHHGHHHHH.

-How in their first scene (all the way back in the end of book 1, danm) Rose is "afraid and almost animal" and Radiance "though she looks kind, she clearly does not feel anything at all" and their last meeting (goddd book five was SUCH a trip) RADIANCE is the one "afraid and almost animal" and ROSE is the one who "doesn't feel anything at all". Insane scene and the only way I think Radiance's death would have been satisfying. If they had tried to redeem her it just wouldn't have worked.

-Lux and Lily parallels. HEY. WHAT DID YOU MEAN BY THIS. NEVER elaborated on to my knowledge. Insane book series 10/10

- The Chronicler is described as a "bright eyed man with white hair that curled around his ears, as well as a white mustache, and twinkling indigo-purple eyes" (like Rose). He is also described as "being short" (like Rose) and implied to have similar leg issues as Rose. AND THE VASE OF BLUE AND PURPLE ROSES. Hey author! What! Did! You! Mean by this! Also p.s I just love his funky guy swag. I love his golden glasses and astrology cape <3

- ALSO HEY WHAT is UP with cloaks and capes in this series?? It's clearly and identify thing- a mask with your face bare king of thing, right??

- How does Belladonna smell like cinnamon. Like I get it has to do with the color of Radiance's hair (before it goes white in book 3) but like. Why The Cihinnamaldehyde Girlie

- I love Lily so much, and I also love how the posters in her room reflect certain plot beats and character backstory. Also, the fact that she was on fanfiction.net is extremely funny to me.

least favorite recent trend is people calling exclusively-smut (or just romance period) readers p0rn addicts. like no, smut will never ever ever ever ever even come close to be on the same level as p0rn. worse yet it's coming from supposed left-leaning people. like way to agree with right wingers on this issue goddd

Hmm, I get where you're coming from, and I totally agree that the conservatives have weaponized, essentially, good intentions to flip young progressives/libs into spouting conservative talking points. But I will say:

A) Some romance novels? Are kinda really close to porn, lol. And I'm not talking erotica--I'm talking books wherein the sex is not necessarily the point of the story or the crux, but it is kinda why you read. Either to be turned on, or to gawk at something utterly absurd (and sometimes funny). Which is why people watch porn, mostly; to be aroused and/or shocked or amused or grossed out.

Like, I'm thinking of books like Vera Valentine's Squeak. It's about a woman who falls in love with two balloon animal shifters, and they fall in love with her right back. Are you reading that because it's good literature? Not really. Or like, the shorty KU books where the plot is kinda thin but the sex is bomb. I mean, people absolutely read books to masturbate, just as they do with porn ("one-handed reads"); and those books are often romance novels. I mean, I have watched porn that legitimately has better emotional plotting than some of the sillier romances I read. And that's not knocking those romances--just as I don't think a "my first massage with the hot masseur lady" porno is meant to give you this deep story. Nor are those books; and they both accomplish their goals.

To compare, I'd say that Tiffany Reisz's Original Sinners books, which are somewhere between erotic romance and erotica depending on the installment... Are nowhere near being porn. The plots revolve around sex. The sex is explicit and very adventurous--CNC, blood play, pegging, bondage, group sex, daddy kink, priest kink, extreme sadism and masochism, needles, and it goes on and on. But the sex is the framework for serious character development and growth and confronting some heavy issues. It's not anywhere close to the kind of content porn typically offers.

The biggest differentiator between sexually explicit, sex-heavy books and porn is the ways in which the products are crafted and the risk components. Both can create unrealistic expectations surrounding sex and relationships (we talk a lot about boys having porn brain, but if you see some of the shit teen girls think is normal after reading certain romance novels--well). Both can do the opposite. And for both, it's seriously not their problem; content is not responsible for educating the kids. The kids' support systems (parents, guardians, teachers) are. Or should be.

B) Porn is not bad; and therefore, it's not bad to compare those books to porn. It is true that porn can be exploitative and harmful to performers. However, that is the sex industry in general--any industry in general. Companies across the world violate child labor laws every day. American employees regularly work themselves to the point of exhaustion, go to work sick and get sicker/infect their coworkers, and have nervous breakdowns due to overwork--and don't make ends' meet. We culturally focus more on how sex workers can be harmed because 1) it's more shocking because sex 2) it's more direct, at times, because sex workers deal with very intimate services that can involve physical risk 3) the harm that occurs is used by politicians and the media to justify why sex work should be outlawed. When in reality, if sex work was decriminalized we'd be able to offer sex workers safe harbors and resources without fear of legal consequences.

But anyway--porn is not bad inherently. If porn is made ethically, which it absolutely can be, there is nothing wrong with people consenting to sexual acts performed on camera... and as long as nobody is getting hurt, everyone is of age and consenting, and there aren't any animals (because animals cannot consent ever lol) involved, theoretically that's fine. Do a lot of people abuse this system? Absolutely, but I'd say that they're more able to abuse it because of the stigma surrounding porn. Though it's legal and theoretically regulated, the regulations aren't often meant to work for performers, they're meant to "protect" the people who might stumble across porn online.

And because we shame people for watching porn and shame porn as a concept, nobody talks about what ethically made porn is, and how different types of porn affect people differently as they grow up. Because most of them? Will watch porn either way. But perhaps if teens felt free enough to discuss the things they saw in porn with sex educators... they would learn more about what is real and what isn't.

I also think that porn can be interesting and artistic (it often isn't, but erotic cinema used to be more common--would recommend the documentary "Skin" to explore more about it), and like I said above, romance novels can be--and like porn, sometimes they aren't. And romance novels, while they may not be as directly harmful as bad porn can be to performers, can be harmful on a broader level. For example, there is som racist porn out there; and there are some racist romance novels out there.

So I guess my thing is--as someone who reads a lot of romances of many degrees of quality, and had also watched my fair share of porn... I don't see a huge difference between some books and porn, lol. And that's not a bad thing. If the worst romances or erotica novels are just as bad as porn on a whole, that's fine, because porn on its own isn't a bad thing. The argument really shouldn't be "romance novels/erotica are better than porn", imo, because the people coming after one are going to come after the other either way. Sex negativity usually takes a universal approach. Nothing is spared; nothing is "good enough". When Spoutible banned sex workers from sharing content, they also banned romance novelists from sharing content, as one example. Romance novelists were no different from people literally having sex for money in that sense, and I honestly think that as the conservative movement becomes more extreme, their personal perception of what is and isn't sex work will also become more extreme. And tbh? The line is blurry. A phone sex operator is not actually selling sex--they're selling a fantasy, woven from their own minds. They just have a more direct connection to the person enjoying the product than authors and other artists do.

It's complicated, and we're all affected, so we've kinda gotta work together here, imo.
