How do I participate?

On the 1st of each month, we will post a prompt word and a word limit. Both the prompts and the word limits will be randomly generated (with the word limit being between 300-900 words).

You have until the end of the month to fill the prompt; write whatever the word prompt inspired you to write, but you must hit the word count exactly. That's the fun of the challenge!

Post your story on whatever platform you feel most comfortable (although we do recommend using AO3), and submit the link to us as you would with any other fic you post. Make it clear in the summary that the fic is for the All Time Low Microfic Challenge (insert whatever month it's for here).

If you are posting to AO3, please add it to the collection on AO3!

We also heavily encourage you as a participant or as just a reader to try and read the other works submitted to the challenge if you have time. Leave a comment and kudos, reblog the post on here to place that work in front of new eyes; we are a small but lovely community and we should try to uplift each other's work. <3

How will you check the word count?

Please use wordcounter.net to check your word count is exactly as listed on the challenge. Different platforms such as Word, AO3, etc may show up the word count differently. As long as it matches on wordcounter.net, you're golden.

We will let you know if your story hasn't hit the word count so you have a chance to amend and re-submit.

What kind of genres, pairings, settings, etc am I allowed to write about?

Absolutely anything, as long as it's to do with All Time Low! You can do an AU, fluff, smut, angst, hurt/comfort... whatever you manage to pack into the word count is allowed, just always remember to use appropriate tags and ratings.

As for pairings, you have complete free rein to do slash, non-slash, platonic, romantic, or no pairing at all if you'd rather revolve it around only one of them. The fics can be about the band members, but also crew, both past and present! It can feature other people if you'd like to pair them with someone from another band, an actor, etc. As long as someone involved with All Time Low is the main focus, it counts.

However, please note that some months will have a mandatory pairing challenge alongside the prompt. For example, we may make a non-slash only month, or only allow pairings involving a crew member, etc. This will be noted alongside the prompt and word count for the month if so.

What inspired you to do this?

Giving credit where credit is due—Eve was inspired to start this challenge to bolster the number of fics in the fandom after enjoying participating in similar challenges in the Stranger Things fandom. Namely @steddiemicrofic and @harringrovemicrofic! 💖 If you're into Stranger Things and would like to write for the fandom/those pairings, please consider joining in their monthly challenges too.

Have you thought about how Squirrelflght's second and final trial would go? (Or her nine lives ceremony, assuming she doesn't die for Bramble's manpain before receiving them.) I like to think after Ashfur's circus, perhaps even her detractors would be at least a little more sympathetic to her.

I absolutely cannot imagine it going any other way than 100% well. I don't even think she'll need a Trial the second time around. After all the shit that happens in BB!TBC??

Recognizing the impostor, definitely being among the first people to know for sure

Joining and aiding the rebellion, if not being one of its primary leaders

Taking over ThunderClan as soon as she's able (with the very frustrating Lionblaze Coup ripped out)

STILL being against the idea of killing the impostor, to try and save as many people as possible, not knowing what's going on

Getting dragged in and then escaping, her first thought being "I need to get help and go back"

Even after all Bramblestar has ever done to her, decreeing that warriors NEVER leave another cat behind

Will definitely be one of the reasons why the Sisters come in to help send so many cats in. Right there is a practical reason for her enemies to acknowledge the value of Fire Alone (though she would be frustrated they even needed A REASON when it was always the right thing to do)

And, most importantly, Ashfur fucking ate Skystar. A 'circus' is putting it nicely, Ashfur just destroyed a big part of the afterlife (the Meadow of Young Stars) and one of Squilf's biggest detractors was murdered by another one.

She looks SO correct right now, you would look stupid for even trying to say "well let's put her on trial. again. after the last one went soo well."

It's a bit of a shame that these two scenes don't follow the exact same direction because you can really tell that they're meant to mirror each other, or at least that the KH3 one is a recreation of the one in BBS (if you cut out the Sora segment)

At the end in the latter half it's probably because in one case you actually get to fight Vanitas while in the other you're still in spectator mode and he leaves right after 🧐

Okay so I barely practiced and made it to regionals like once so im NOT the expert here but uh headcanoning that Jess did air rifle when she was a teen. Like idk if it would be as part of a team like with a high school (what I'm familiar with) vs like an individual thing vs like a travel/competitive team (it depends on the sitch in her area growing up) but she definitely went to some national matches (probably including JOs/JO quals like i think she was GOOD). I think she probably would have quit competitively following a bad shot at nationals (relatable) along with anxiety about competition (ALSO relatable) but still kept up with shooting casually for fun and relaxation and to hang out with friends etc.

She definitely would have shot smallbore competitively too but I never did that bc I was lazy so idk to much abt it competitively

thinking abt that scene in bad buddy ep 7 where wai returns pran’s guitar and u see pat visibly hurt by this and then its never resolved 😐 like the guitar is the biggest symbol of pat’s longing, he kept that guitar and took care of it for years on the chance that he’ll see pran again, and to find out that pran just gave it away to wai of all people, and then the next time we see them, pat is back to his usual happy self
