Some impressions of Halberstadt

Today I visited Halberstadt, a very old and small city in the Harz-region in Germany. Halberstadt was founded already in the reign of Charlemagne and was mostly the domain of important bishops. Especially as a result of the Fourth Crusade (which actually in this case was aimed more at the plundering of Byzantium), many treasures and riches reached Halberstadt, whereupon the construction of Halberstadt Cathedral was begun.

By the way, in the cathedral treasure you can find both the holy hand grenade of Antioch and the Eden apple.

Apart from that, they also have a huge amount of… disgusting relics, even parts of Charlemagne himself. But at least they were actually made visible to the common rabble. For example, with the help of this object where sacred hair or fingers or blood were prepared under transparent rock crystal disks for viewing.

Otherwise, Halberstadt has a lot of pretty, restored houses from the Middle Ages. Some are now sagging in the middle or standing crooked, but that's part of their charm.

And then there was that old cat.

All in all - good destination for a one day short trip with very low budget.
