“Oh no! What happened?!” She panics. “Detention is not fun at all! You sit in silence and the teacher tries to make you think about “what you did wrong” or give some sort of punishment that correlates to the action.” She explains loosely.

She then got a terrified expression. “Don’t tell me it’s from Ms. Gormley’s class… She’s intimidating to say the least.” She shivered at the thought of her. “If it’s with her… I’m praying for you… Actually.” She looks around and pulls her friend close. “I will try to break you out of there. I heard her detentions are really tough.”

"To be honest, I was surprised you got half these questions correct, so congratulations. However, it does mean I will be keeping you in the front of the class with Shu."

[takes a bite from an apple then swallows]

"The next topic will be the History of Baroque Music. As the resident pianist, I expect you to fully ace the next quiz. Failure to do so will mean I will Ghoul-proof the music room, am I clear?"

Scarlett was handed her exam, revealing a... higher grade than what she expected. She still failed though.

"Uh... I... Okay. I know this is bad, but why do I have to stay at the front? It... it clearly didn't help."

Taking the chance to talk her way out her classroom placement situation, even if she knew the problem might not be her seat, she convinced herself that it wasn't exactly an incorrect statement. It didn't help, that much was true.

But she had a chance to redeem herself, now.

"... Ah. Baroque music? May I have my former spot if I ace that exam? I will! And, yes... If I don't... then you can prohibit my access to the music room, I clearly won't deserve it."

"I don't know what's surprising more, the fact you never heard the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky or the fact you almost got a C on the exam if it wasn't for Miss Sakamaki pointing out an error on my end. I thought Arnold's bloodline was supposed to be the crème de la crème? Must been mistaken."

[pauses]

"However, you're a crop above half the class, so I shouldn't be too frustrated. Perhaps you should take cues from Mr. Mukami and then you shall meet my expectations for you."

The girl with the blond locks closed the office door behind her, just before taking a quick look at the teacher's aura to note her discontent. Emotion that disconcerted the Owl since a failed exam was not expected. She grabbed one of the chairs in front of the desk to take a seat and once the abundant papers of questions came into her field of vision, Irina noticed her grade. It wasn't perfect, or the highest note, but it wasn't anything to be alarmed about either.

The young woman remained silent, maintaining a serene expression, allowing Miss Gormley to blurt out all the comments she wanted, although some of them caused her great anger, wanting to throw the desk at her to leave all the documentation lying on the floor. However, she held back as best she could. "My, this feels personal, don't you think, Miss Gormley?" She was finally able to comment on it and what better way to do it than with a sly smile on her face.

"Mm... I thought you would be someone professional, but it seems that we can all have disappointments." Irina giggled a bit, but not gracefully as her irritation was building. "For starters, I don't understand so much drama, when it's not a bad grade. Eeh... Perfection is very bad, you know? Not to say that you blame me for a mistake you yourself made; I answered as I had been asked, that you have something completely different in mind is not my problem, much less that you are so blind as not to see an error. Or maybe you haven't checked your exams? What a problem..." Irina was obviously teasing the teacher with a huge smile though tired of being given high expectations just because she was someone's daughter. "Bah, you also has the audacity to bring another student into this."

"My goodness, whatever problem you have with my father is between you both, I have nothing to do with it. Keep giving me pains more annoying than migraines and maybe I can even talk to him in person." The blonde paused to take the paper in her hands, knowing that if the problem progressed she could complain with false tears and everything would be solved. "If your skin doesn't become a new bag for me, maybe you'll be fired from your job at the very least."

"Maybe you're not as good a teacher as you ssssssssay you are."

"As such, I will be assigning you one week of detention so you focus up and perhaps graduate high school. I've informed your guardian about this, so you don't need to worry. Understood?"

[Takes the quiz, staring at it.]

(I knew I didn’t do well… but… this…)

[Looks at the teacher again, all red-faced.]

“Umh... least… least correct answers out of the entire class?! Oh my gosh!”

(This is terrible! How can I ever…? I’m going to die from embarrassment!)

[Lowers her gaze.]

“I’m so sorry, Gormley-sensei… I… I had a situation back at home but I know it’s not an excuse for this…”

[Realizes what the teacher just said, lifting her desperate gaze once more very quickly.]

“You… you informed my guardian? Like… my… You informed Dad?!”

(Oh my gosh! If he finds out about the detention, he will come back for me when I leave school alone! This is worse than failing! What am I going to do…?! And if Ruki doesn’t know where I am… oh my gosh… no… what a mess!)

“Umh… I… I… I really need to tell someone about this. May I… do that before my detention? Please?”

What exactly was she thanking Miss Gormley for? It was basically her efforts causing the result. Either way, she stood up and gave a short bow. "I will do much better in the future. I promise."

Giving yet another bow, she turned to walk to the door as she waved at the teacher. What a joyous day.

“Thank you, Madame Gormley.” – Nunnally said politely picking up her quiz looking at her grading with the mixture of relief and slight disappointment. Her grade was excellent, but she was not sure, if that would be enough for Reiji. After all, she did not get all the replies correct.

These thoughts were suddenly interrupted, and the fair-haired girl frowned a little, when her teacher recalled the situation from one of the previous classes.

“Is Madame Gormley really thinking that was some silly school-level chemistry!??” – Nunnally thought to herself hoping her annoyance was not visible on her face – “I would not waste my time for something so ridiculously easy as chemistry taught in this school. Does she think I am so stupid?” Despite these thoughts Nunnally replied calmly.

“I sincerely apologize, Madame Gormley, for that improper behaviour. I will make sure it will not happen in the future.”

Nunnally’s frown deepened as she was dismissed. She was, indeed, surprised how impolite her teacher was. “She has no right to dismiss me. No-one has.” No matter how much she wanted to snap at her teacher, she decided to address the issue more formally. But she was not to leave it like that.

“Thank you, Madame Gormley. Have a nice day, too. See you during out next classes.” – she said and added in her thoughts – “That is if you still have your job. You cannot disrespect your students, I assume.”
