Origami hanging star

Wish I could sell these around the world but as they are about 25cm top to tip they would cost like £10 to post outside the UK and I'm only charging £1 for them.
But they are still pretty.

A person on my quilting discord was trying to destash some fabric for the price of shipping. I made this from one piece I got from them plus some tiny little bits of another one. I've had the lining fabric for... More than a decade and have only used it in one quilt (the one I bought it for). Pretty happy how it turned out even if the poinsettia side was distorted so some of my top stitching ended up over the corner of the design.

Fabric star ornaments
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made this fabric stars pretty last minute for my handmade advent calendar swap. Better late than never, right? I had just enough fabric scraps to make exactly two stars. That made me happy! They don't have to be lonely now.
The fabric is very festive, with it's deep red background and has a holly and mistletoe (berries and leaves) print. At the same time it's a kind of subtle christmas pattern in my mind. It doesn't scream KITSCH like other decor does sometimes! With the natural theme it's kind of subtle.
Picture 1: Shows the paper pattern I made for the stars (traced from a beeswax candle), the outline of the star in pencil on the fabric (Only on one side because it's folded in half) and the first finished star (with a green yarn loop and stuffed with batting)! The fabric is very festive, with it's deep red background and holly berries and leaves print. At the same time it's a kind of subtle christmas pattern in my mind. The finished star looks very pretty and christmas-y.
Picture 2: The second star is in the process of being sewn. It's almost all sewn up (per hand) and the seam allowance has been clipped with pinking shears (can also be seen in the picture). The finished star is there too, because it's cute.
Picture 3: Yay! Two finished fabric stars!! The pattern of the fabric shows up different on them and showcases various leaves. [/image description]

Miniature Birdhouse Ornament, Handmade from Reclaimed Hardwoods and Finished with A Blend Of Beeswax and Mineral Oil, Collectable
Buy Now
More Christmas Decor
I made this miniature birdhouse Christmas tree ornament in my shop using traditional woodworking tools from reclaimed wood. I glued together small pieces of wood to create a block of wood large enough to compound cut the ornament in three dimensions using a scroll saw. The ornament is finished with a custom blend of mineral oils and waxes that I apply hot for deep penetration and durability. This ornament could become a family heirloom. There are many styles of birdhouse ornaments available in my shop. Follow the link to see more.

I'm currently working on Christmas ornaments I plan to gift to friends and family this year! I think they might inspire some of you aswell, if you're in search of a relatively easy to make and cute handmade gift.
You could include these with a Christmas card you send or add them as decoration to a bigger gift.
I have a little hoop I put my fabric in for equal tension but you could totally do this without an embroidery hoop aswell. You need some uni coloured fabric, preferably in a linen or crosstitch quality. Trace out a circle (I used a glass) to know where to stitch in. I've decided to stitch stars, because they're festive and fun to make (and also relatively easy to stitch). I'm sure you'll find a star stitch tutorial online if the stitch isn't self-explanatory (if you have a little bit of embroidery experience I'm sure you'd be able to figure it out). Basically you make a cross and then an X over that. You can change up the size of the crosd and X for some variety.
After stitching I've also sewed on some sparkly rocaille beads because stars are usually shiny. And shiny is just pretty.
I insert some cardboard at the back of the fabric to give it body (you can recycle some cereal box or something similar) and gather the fabric down with a quick running stitch (see 3rd picture). I then sew on a loop to hang the ornament from and sew a circle (cut out of a fleece fabric scrap or another non-fray fabric ideally) to the back with some whipstitches. Voila! All done and ready to be gifted. 🎁
