hi! i'd like to ask a one shot on carmen berzatto in which the reader is an italian girl her early/mid 20s who works as a waiter at the bear and is sydney's best friend. her and carmen meet through her and they start secretly dating. the rest is up to you
thank you <3
hi!! I simplified your request a little,, it's more like a blurb / headcanon thing than a oneshot because I'm working on a long chapter for my nemesis series rn lol, hope that's okay!! thank you for the request angel! ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: carmen berzatto x fem!reader
tags: sydney being a matchmaker somehow, not so secret relationship, exactly what it says in the ask lol, normal size font below!

let me know if you'd like to be added to the tag list for further carmen berzatto related content!
Tumblr media
+ when it comes to hiring waiters, carmen just wants someone who's experienced. someone who knows what they're doing and who can do it well. and quickly. this restaurant has to work, has to make everyone proud, and the staff has to reflect that.
+ sydney instantly thought of you as a reference. you'd worked at your family restaurant back in italy, and when you moved to chicago, had continued said occupation to support yourself in various restaurants. though none were as nice as "the bear".
+ so when your friend had called you up for an interview for a brand new restaurant with one of the most promising chefs of the country, of course you took the offer.
+ though carmen knew most waiters were usually... presentable, he didn't quite imagine you to be this fucking pretty when you showed up for the interview. he almost forgot every question he was meaning to ask when you walked through that door, all bubbly excitement and feminine flair.
+ he loved hearing you talk about your life in italy before moving to the states, your experiences working in the service industry, your passion for food and people... he almost forgot he was supposed to be conducting an interview at all, he just adored hearing you talk so much.
+ and sydney noticed too. she noticed the way he had such an easy time conversing with you, which is odd behavior for him, to say the least. she was just glad the two of you were getting along, and her friend had a chance of getting hired.
+ and of course you were hired. not only was carmy already hooked on you, but so was most of the other staff. your bright personality and quick witted comments were nice and refreshing when things got a little too stressful. plus, you worked fast and efficiently; what more could they ask for?
+ carmen’s interest in you remained. he knew it was a little wrong, since technically, yes, he is your boss. which is why he was a bit reluctant to do anything at first.
+ you were making all the first moves. giving him meaningful glances during quiet moments, helping him out with things that didn’t apply to your job position, staying later to help him close up and clean. even if it meant you’d be tired as all hell by the time you were home, at least you were spending time with him. to you, it was more than worth it.
+ and he seemed to think the same. carmen never thought the closing shift could be as fun as it was when you were there. these days he was almost fighting richie for it, claiming that it was more fitting for him anyways since it was his place after all.
+ late night shifts turned into walking you home. walking you home turned into hanging out at your apartment for a glass of wine. a glass of wine turned into kissing on the couch. kissing on the couch turned into staying the night… you’d fallen into a routine with him so easily, sometimes you forgot there was a time before carmen was in your life. it just felt so… natural. like it was always supposed to be like this.
+ and though you really liked carmen, you didn’t want to jeopardize your position at the restaurant. you’d finally found a stable, well paying job, it would be a shame if you lost it over a relationship with your superior. though sometimes, you wondered if it would be worth it. to risk it for carmen.
+ carmen agreed, and so the two of you continued to keep your relationship under wraps for the time being. it was for the better, and besides, it’s not like he talked much about his personal life to his colleagues either. well, except for sydney.
+ and boy did she have her suspicions. of course she’d find out eventually, she’s a very smart and observant person. she can figure out carmen so easily, so she’s definitely not oblivious to the sneaking glances and hidden smiles, or the way he always manages to stay behind with you at the restaurant. not even the hickey you tried so desperately to cover up with makeup slips past her radar.
+ but she doesn’t say anything, at least not for a while. she lets the two of you live out your little secret relationship, believing she doesn’t know, until she accidentally slips up about it.
+ you’re complaining about the noise in your apartment and your lack of sleep because of it, clearly frustrated, when sydney asks “why don’t you just sleep over at carmen’s again then?”
+ she doesn’t realise she’d revealed that she’s known all along, until you look at her like you just saw a ghost. you’re about to defend yourself and come up with some excuse, when behind your friend, you can see carmen standing at the bar, smiling to himself as he cleans the counter.
+ it brings you comfort to know that apparently, he doesn’t mind anyone knowing. the secrecy was more for you than for him if anything. you’re not his little secret, not at all, and that became very clear when he’d start talking sydney's ear off about you after. though she does find it annoying, she’s glad two very important people in her life have found each other and are making it work.
+ plus, it’s nice that you two always cover the closing shift.
+ though she has her doubts about what you two are actually up to alone in the restaurant past closing time.

How To Get A Job Without Experience (With 6 Career Options)
Tumblr media
Are you wondering if you can get a job without any technical or professional experience?
Getting a job without any prior work experience can seem daunting. But it's not impossible! You can convince employers to take a chance on you with the right strategy and perseverance. This article will take you to some effective ways to land a job without experience. You'll get to know six career opportunities that don't require any experience or minimal expertise.
Let's dive in.
Effective Ways To Land A Job Without Experience
Here are some effective ways to help you make a strong case to potential employers and open doors to intriguing prospects. You can utilize these ways whether you're a recent graduate, switching to a different sector, or simply trying to start over.
Leverage Your Education
Highlight your academic credentials, especially if you have a degree that relates to the field or role you're pursuing. Coursework, projects, internships, leadership activities, and any honors or awards show your capabilities.
For example, if you majored in marketing, emphasize any analysis or campaigns you did for class. Or, if you're applying for a software engineering role, describe coding projects and hackathons you participated in.
Be prepared to talk intelligently about what you studied and how it prepares you for the job's responsibilities.
Showcase Transferable Skills
The fact that you don't have direct experience in a particular job doesn't mean you don't have relevant skills. The key is identifying abilities from other areas of life that translate.
For instance, if you're trying to get a retail job, customer service skills from past restaurant work are highly applicable. For an office manager role, administrative skills from coordinating student group events would be valuable. Make a master list of all your strongest soft and hard skills. Then, customize it for each job by picking 3-5 that fit the role.
Highlight Volunteer Experience
Any volunteer work can help fill in experience gaps on your resume. Nonprofit, community, religious, or other voluntary activities demonstrate responsibility, teamwork, dedication and other qualities employers seek.
Just be sure to frame your accomplishments from a professional standpoint. For example, "raised over $5,000 in donations" is better than "participated in a charity fundraiser".
Complete Internships
Internships are like work experience training wheels. They give you professional skills and knowledge and let you start building a network.
There are abundant internship opportunities, paid and unpaid, that don't strictly require you to already have experience. Look for openings at small or mid-sized companies that may be more flexible.
Successful interns are often converted to full-time hires post-graduation. Even if that doesn't happen, it's still incredible resume fodder.
Showcase Related Side Hustles
Freelancing, consulting, business ventures, etc., demonstrate you have initiative, can generate income, and pick up new skills quickly. Even informal side work like tutoring, web design, or selling crafts has merit.
For example, if you're seeking a full-time marketing position, tout the social media management or influencer marketing services you offer. Anything where you actively had to market yourself and acquire clients is impressive.
Just make sure you can back up any claimed skills if probed in interviews.
Ace the Interview
At the interview stage, how you present yourself matters more than a thin resume. Confidence, professionalism, problem-solving skills, bona fide interest in the company and quick learning ability can all override experience gaps.
Come equipped with thoughtful questions, ideas and visions for how you'd tackle the role. When asked about experience gaps, pivot to your assets.
For instance, "While I don't yet have full-time social media management experience, I learned XYZ skills managing the Instagram account for my college basketball team, which helped increase engagement by 30%."
Sell how you can provide unique value. With preparation and passion, you can make employers believe in your potential.
The key is convincing hiring managers you have the right foundation and can excel on the job. With resilience and utilizing these tactics, you can transition successfully into a new career without directly relevant experience.
Just highlight your transferable abilities, be willing to start at entry level and work hard to prove yourself. The rest will fall into place.
6 Career Opportunities Options You Can Pursue Without Having Any Prior Experience
Entry-Level Customer Service Representative: Customer service roles like call center reps or customer support specialists rarely require previous experience. You'll learn on the job how to interact with customers, troubleshoot issues, and provide excellent service.
Administrative Assistant: Many administrative or secretarial positions are open to those just starting. Your duties may include answering phones, scheduling, filing, data entry and supporting office operations.
Sales Associate/Retail Worker: Retail companies are often willing to hire people without experience for roles like cashier, sales floor associate, stocker, etc. These jobs provide lots of customer interaction.
Teacher's Aide/Assistant: Schools, daycares, and learning centers need paraprofessionals to support teachers in the classroom. No prior experience is necessary beyond a high school diploma.
Delivery Driver: Pizza chains, UPS, Instacart and other delivery companies need drivers to transport packages, food orders or other items. A clean driving record is generally the only major requirement.
Entry-Level Hospitality & Tourism: Hotels, restaurants, parks, and other hospitality providers have many basic operational jobs like a housekeeper, dishwashers, ride attendants, tour guides, etc. These allow you to start in the industry.
The key is being willing to apply for junior roles, learn on the go, provide great customer service, and work your way up the ladder. You can build a career even without direct experience with motivation and persistence. You can also ask for assistance from platforms like GradSiren that offer you entry level jobs. They allow you to find fresher jobs as per your interests and skills.
Conclusion
It is possible to find employment without experience. Put a focus on your education, practical experience, volunteering, internships, and relevant side businesses. Gain confidence and problem-solving skills during interviews.
Take a look at entry-level jobs in administration, retail, education, delivery, or hospitality. You can begin your job adventure and rise through the ranks if you are determined and open to learning. Remember that everyone starts off somewhere, and your potential can emerge with persistence.

senseless witterings of a confused bird
okay i had a job interview today for a job that i am not sure i want (it is part-time, has no benefits & the commute is over an hour one-way; the actual day-to-day work sounds good & before taxes i'd be making $52k/yr.), which seemed to go more or less fine although the vibes were not incredible. mostly it seemed like the people interviewing me were desperate to hire someone. more than halfway through the interview one of the committee members signed onto the zoom call because she'd forgotten that there was an interview and asked me three (3) questions: when was the last time you helped someone; have you worked with struggling students before [had already addressed before her arrival]; do you know how bad the weather here is. i will not lie i did not particularly enjoy this exchange
an hour after the interview, the library director called me to arrange a campus visit (very fast!). she asked me carefully if i'd be able to get there in time, because she wasn't sure if i was still in florida; this was an exciting question on her part, because they were emphatically not offering to cover my travel to interview for, i cannot emphasize this enough, a part-time job with no benefits. anyway! i will be doing a campus visit fairly soon, in which i must offer a database demo. it's at a community college with a good number of healthcare students so i am planning to do medline (will be a good time to demonstrate a little technical expertise when i mention MeSH/abruptly become very nerdy about dust disease terms).
i am feeling spiteful & conflicted. they are clearly desperate to hire someone; i do not like being unemployed; i am interested in this kind of work even if i do not think that this job is a particularly good deal (it isn't; they want instruction, outreach, desk staffing, & collection management with no health insurance or paid time off). if they did offer it to me & i said yes i would continue looking & applying elsewhere, possibly at something of an advantage. the committee made no particular effort to pitch me on the job, did a very bad job actually arranging the interview (sent me the wrong zoom code), struggled to answer basic questions ("what would an average week in this position look like?"), and also really got my back up with the "when was the last time you helped someone" question. i do not love this approach to library work! i actively reject it, in fact! it was weird & like, matronly. oh must i kindly tend to the unfortunate? because of my compassionate & womanly nature? do your patrons find that condescending approach useful?
i haven't heard back from the youth services job i interviewed for, so maybe the real issue here is that my expectations & assessment of my own skills are inaccurate

𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬, 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Tumblr media
An organization is like a machine with many moving parts. For it to work efficiently, there must be the right people placed in the right roles.
This requires properly defining and documenting different jobs in the organization through job analysis, job descriptions and job specifications.
These tools form the foundation of key HR functions like recruitment, compensation, performance management and employee development.
In this article, we’ll provide an in-depth overview of what job analysis, descriptions and specifications are, why they matter. We’ll also discuss how to create them accurately for hiring and managing talent effectively.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬?
Job analysis is a systematic process of gathering, documenting and analyzing information about the responsibilities, tasks, skills, abilities, knowledge area, and work context associated with a
particular job. It forms the basis for defining the right requirements for successfully performing that job.
The key objectives of job analysis are to:
● Identify the core duties and responsibilities that a job entails
● Determine the specialized skills, credentials or competencies needed for the job
● Recognize the key performance indicators to measure outcomes for the job
● Understand the environmental/cultural context and physical demands of the job
● Identify machines, tools, equipment, and technologies used in the job
Information for job analysis is gathered in several ways – employee surveys, questionnaires, interviews with job incumbents, observation of workers, and review of policies and procedures.
Specialized jobs may also require analyzing industry standards.
The deliverable from job analysis is documentation that comprehensively describes the job – this is called job description.
𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
An effective job description concisely summarizes the key outputs, responsibilities, required skills and qualifications for a particular job. It serves as a guiding document for recruiting, onboarding, training and performance management.
Key elements that a job description includes are:
● Job title and department
● Overall purpose/objective of the job (summary statement)
● The scope of role and position in org structure
● Key duties and responsibilities
● Interactions with other jobs/departments
● Educational qualifications and specialized certification
● Technical/software skills needed
● Soft skills or behavioral competencies required
● Physical or sensory abilities required
A well-written job description is detailed yet easy to grasp for both job seekers and employees. It should describe both day-to-day activities as well as rare responsibilities that the role may
entail. The language used should be clear and use common industry terminology.
Here’s an example snippet from a job description:
Job Title: Sales Manager
Department: Sales
Summary Statement: Responsible for building and leading high-performing sales teams to drive sustainable business growth and achieve revenue targets for the organization’s products/services. Reports to the Head of Sales.
Roles and Responsibilities:
● Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve growth targets
● Manage end-to-end sales cycle for major accounts/partnerships
● Coach and mentor junior sales team members to build capabilities
● Work closely with marketing to generate quality sales leads
● Monitor competition landscape and market trends to identify opportunities
Notice how the summary provides an overview while the responsibilities dive into details of core duties.
𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Job specification is about defining the human requirements – the candidate profile with the skills, traits and experience needed to fulfill those duties.
Job specification details:
● Minimum or required educational qualifications
● Job-related certifications needed
● Hard skills and soft skills required
● Physical attributes like stamina if applicable
● Minimum years and type of experience desired
● Specialized knowledge needed
As part of job specification, you can also indicate “preferred but not required” qualifications to find candidates who may exceed expectations for the role.
The aim is to outline an optimal candidate profile that increases the chances of identifying the right people for long-term success in the job. Paired with the job description, the spec allows for informed hiring decisions based on merit rather than subjective impressions alone.
For example, part of a job spec for a sales manager role could be:
Required Qualification and Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or relevant field
● Proven experience of 5+ years successfully managing corporate sales teams
● Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor junior sales resources
● Strong track record of achieving revenue targets in past roles
● Subject matter expertise and network in the technology industry
Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Business or relevant certification
● Background working with partners/alliances programs
● International sales experience
𝟖 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬, 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Here are some key best practices to create accurate and impactful job analysis documentation:
1. Get input from diverse stakeholders: Speak with not just incumbents but their managers and internal customers to get a balanced perspective on the job.
2. Focus on the job, not person: Document only the role itself rather than capabilities of the current person in the job which could be subjective.
3. Use clear, concise language: Write descriptions suited not just for internal HR but also external candidates. Use common industry terminology.
4. Standardize key elements: Use consistent sections and structure across job docs for different roles to enable comparison.
5. Review and update regularly: Revisit docs as business needs evolve to ensure relevance. You can also build review cadence.
6. Collaborate with the compensation team: Align job analysis with pay scale considerations for competitive and fair compensation.
7. Leverage software tools: Use online templates and organizational collaboration tools to easily create, review and update descriptions.
8. Incorporate compliance needs: Ensure job documentation meets all the mandatory and other regulatory requirements.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Getting job analysis right has far-reaching impact across the employee lifecycle:
● Strategic workforce planning: The details help assess workforce capacity and identify skill gaps.
● Candidate screening: Job specs enable assessing if applicants have the required credentials and experience to shortlist.
● Interviewing and selection: Structured, standardized questions can be based on requirements in description.
● Onboarding/training: New hires understand role expectations right from day one. Learning is aligned to needs.
● Performance reviews: Measurable evaluation relies on key outputs and metrics captured in description.
● Succession planning: Required qualifications help identify and develop suitable internal candidates to fill critical roles.
● Compensation management: Job analysis enables pay to be competitive based on “going rate” for matching skill-sets and demands.
However, it is also important to choose the right platform to find experienced or fresher jobs. GradSiren is your destination if you are looking for IT jobs in India. The platform also provides you numerous opportunities for IT jobs in USA that fits your requirements.
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Job analysis, descriptions and specifications provide the strong informational backbone for managing your human capital in alignment with organizational goals. Getting it right does demand diligence and collaboration across teams, but pays off manifold in building a productive, thriving workforce.
As per best practices, incorporate input from diverse stakeholders, use clear and concise language, integrate regular reviews and ensure consistency across roles. By laying this robust groundwork, organizations can make smart, ethical decisions in acquiring and supporting talent.

Check Reviews and Ratings:
If you're considering using freelance platforms, check the reviews and ratings of Shopify Experts. This feedback can provide valuable insights into their work quality and professionalism.
Interview and Assess Expertise:
Before finalizing your decision, interview potential Shopify Experts to assess their expertise, communication skills, and compatibility with your project. Ask about their approach, timelines, and pricing.

That’s why some employers’ partner with staffing agencies, which take a lot of the time and effort out of the search for candidates by providing workers for open roles. A staffing agency recruits employees for businesses that are seeking to fill certain positions. They help companies hire for different types of jobs: temporary (an assignment with a set start and end date), temp to hire (an assignment that’s initially temporary but is used to help an employer determine the temp worker’s long-term fit with the company) and direct hire (a permanent position in which the staffing agency acts as a recruiter). If the staffing agency doesn’t have a readily available and suitable candidate in its talent pool, it will typically advertise the position on job boards like Indeed and other places where job seekers would likely look. The staffing agency can also reach out directly to suitable candidates through professional platforms like LinkedIn, which allows them to filter search results by keyword, job function, location, industry and more. Manpower Temp Agency is particularly effective when hiring a niche specialist with a specific skill set. The staffing agency will then accept applications and conduct interviews and a background check if required, just as any other employer would. Once the right candidate is found, that person is hired as an employee of the agency (except in the case of direct-hire positions). The worker’s paycheck and benefits, if offered, are issued by the staffing agency, but the length of employment is determined by the business. A staffing agency can help your business overcome that challenge. When you need new staff and choose to work with a staffing agency, the process typically goes as follows. The employer contacts the staffing agency. First, you’ll reach out to a staffing agency that specializes in your industry, specifying information like the job responsibilities, the number of workers needed, and the timeline to hire new workers, and the hourly wage or salary. The staffing agency vets candidates. Once candidates begin applying for the open position, the staffing agency reviews their experience and qualifications before scheduling and conducting interviews. They then choose the most qualified individuals to introduce to the hiring manager at your business. The employer makes the final decision. The hiring manager or business owner can interview the staffing agency’s top candidates before making a final hiring decision. This saves you and your staff hours that you would otherwise spend sorting through countless applicants. The staffing agency takes care of the paperwork. Most staffing agencies handle all the paperwork associated with new hires, like contracts, taxes and other payroll tasks. The staffing agency creates the job description. The staffing agency then writes a job description and advertises it for your business. It might also reach out to a potential candidate individually if there is someone who is a good fit for the job. Staffing agencies typically charge 25% to 100% of the hired employee’s wages. So, for example, if you and the staffing agency have agreed on a markup of 50% and the new employee earns an hourly wage of $10, you will pay the agency $15 per hour for their work. In addition to the markup you’ll pay, you may be expected to cover additional fees for filling the position or contract buyout fees if you hire a temporary worker permanently. As employers increasingly turn to part-time, freelance and temporary workers to fill their workforce gaps, staffing agencies have become a valuable resource for finding talent quickly and efficiently. Using a staffing agency can help accelerate your hiring process, reduce the workload for your current employees, offer flexibility regarding the type of hires and mitigate legal risks. At the same time, its services come with an additional fee that can be as high as 100% of a worker’s annual salary, and they are less likely to be a suitable culture fit. It can be a good idea to combine a staffing agency’s efforts with additional internal vetting to ensure the optimal fit. If you decide to solely use a staffing firm, make sure to carefully assess your business needs, goals and budget; conduct an extensive reference and reputation check; and clearly communicate your hiring requirements. Y/N had been working at the same pool every warm season since she had started her PhD program at USC - 4 years ago. She had only been there for a year before she was asked if she would be interested in a promotion to supervisor. The water, whether ocean or pool, had always been her safe space. Being the supervisor, she loved her fellow life guards like they were her own little family. She looked out for them because many of them were younger, think upperclassmen in high school ranging to undergraduate students. This was a seasonal job, so the turnover was high annually, despite that she usually got along well with everyone that came through the facility. And then on her third year working at the pool Harry arrived.
The city wanted to expand the services offered at the community pool to be more inclusive. Before Harry the extent of services apart from open swim hours were swim lessons for children aged 3-12 in groups, private lessons for anyone, and rental opportunities for a private event. Harry had studied as an athletic trainer and had also become a chef - or so he shared in his interview. He had recently finished certifications for aquatic exercise and senior fitness and therefore would be a magnificent addition to the team and allow the city to offer a new range of services that could also serve an often underserved group in the community. Needless to say, even Y/N was in favor of adding him to the team and was eager to see his plans during his second interview. Sure enough, he got hired.
Yes, he was hot, everyone thought so, even she did! He initially was appealing to her because he was her age. But she soon discovered he was quite cocky, a kiss-up, and a total pest. Well, those were his bad qualities that she noticed when he was just hanging around everyone. Because when he was on the job, up on the tower, he was very serious about his responsibilities. He was nice to everyone, but he wasn't afraid to assert his authority or to kick people out if they were being reckless. He also had a good eye for bullies and never gave them the chance to act out their malicious plans.
Along with Y/N and 2 other contracted instructors, Harry helped with the lessons as needed. But primarily, he was in charge of the aquatic fitness program they offered. This tended to attract the older crowd, low impact exercises were hard to come by. But the point of all of this being that he was great with kids, so parents loved him, and he was also great with the older folks, so they all fawned over him as well. He was a hit with everyone and he knew it.
It seemed that he had everyone under his spell except Y/N. This bugged Harry. Yes, she was technically his boss, but she was the same age as him and she was hot. The only reason he started to ask to lifeguard was to get to see more of her, maybe he'd melt down her tough exterior. Most of the lifeguards were younger adolescents and he may sometimes give in to their antics and be a nuisance with them, but when push came to shove he was professional, so he didn't get why she acted how she did with him. Granted, she was never rude or mean, but she just didn't fawn over him like everyone else did. She was the one person he really was trying to impress and she didn't even bat an eye in his direction.
"Hey," he wandered into her office, "Anyway you can leave me out of the Friday schedule this week? I have plans." he said and she glanced up from her computer.
"Yeah, sure." she smiled, "Was just about to finalize the schedule. Did you ask anyone to take your shift?" she asked.
"Yeah. I asked Caleb and he said he'd take it. You know, saving up for his first car and all..." he hummed as he walked in further and leaned on her desk and she smiled.
"Oh Caleb, I'm sure he's getting close." she hummed as she typed away, presumably switching out his name for Caleb's.
"Do you have any plans? This weekend?"
"Just finishing a revision on my dissertation." she explained.
"Such a nerd. Are you ever doing anything that hasn't got to do with school?" he teased.
"Like?" she asked looking over to him again.
"Like parties, or hobbies, or...dates? Do nerds your age still date?" he jabbed at her with a sly smirk and she rolled her eyes. He always teased her like this, saying annoying things with a flirty smile and suggestive eyes.
"I'll have you know, guys like nerdy girls, OK?" Yes, he could confirm they did.
"I don't know about that." he said regardless of how he felt towards her.
"Also, we're the same age so are you really qualified to bash me for being single?" she reminded with a sassy look and he grinned.
“So you are single?” He smirked through his question and she huffed and rolled her eyes at him, "M'just giving you a hard time." he let up.
"I know." she said with a small smile. The truth was that Y/N didn't do anything fun, hardly ever. She was always busy with school or work. She never took time for herself and opposite what she told Harry, not very many people found nerds her age dateable, no matter what she told herself.
"Well if you get bored of revising your dissertation you're more than welcomed to come to my friend's party. It's like a housewarming thing, but he lives beach front now so it's going to be pretty big."
"And that's why you're missing work?" she asked with a smirk.
"Yes. But I'll have you know that it's not to day drink and laze around, he asked me to cook some healthy and delicious appetizers. So I need the whole day to prep and cook and make it on time..." he explained, "So, would you want to go? So that I can send you the address." he said and she bit her lip with a bit of uncertainty.
"Why are you inviting me?" she asked instead and he shrugged.
"I've been able to connect well with everyone on the team except you so I just figured I'd extend an invitation." he said and she continued looking at him, "Also you’re like the only person aside from me whose of legal drinking age so I can’t really ask any only else in good conscience, you know?” Harry said and she chuckled and shook her head as she mulled over the idea, but Harry took it as his joke maybe falling flat and he decided to just end his misery, “You know what, never mind." he mumbled as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "Sorry if I crossed a line or something." he said before turning around and starting to walk out of her office.
"Harry, wait!" she called after him and he turned back to her, "Fine. I'll go." she sighed.
"You don't have to if you don't want to." he said and she shook her head.
"I do want to. It sounds fun and I really want to try some of your healthy but delicious appetizers. What time should I be there?"
**********
Harry thought she had been polite in accepting the invitation but didn't fully believe she would be there. But it was 8pm and he was receiving a message from her saying she was outside and she felt awkward knocking the door. He felt giddy that she came through and excused himself from the group he was in and rushed to the front of the house through the side gate.
"Y/N?" He called out and soon she was popping her head out from over the railing of the little porch.
"Oh hi!" she smiled.
"Hey, come on down here." he said and she headed back towards the steps and in a moment was walking up to the side gate where Harry was waiting for her, "You actually showed up." he smiled.
"Of course. M'not a flake." she said and he grinned.
"I sort of had you pegged for one, but I'm glad you're not." he responded and she shook her head, "C'mon lets head in." he smiled and she followed him inside.
Everything was very pretty. There were tons of games set up and drinks and food. Well, Harry's food was delicious and his friends were inviting and easy-going. Y/N was having a good time with him. Yeah, he was a bit cocky and competitive, she saw the streak coming out at games but she saw that it wasn't anything harmful or arrogant, just a competitive edge mostly. He was extremely pleasant and considerate. He was easy to talk to and fun to be around, she didn;t know how awkward this might be, but there was zero awkwardness and tension, everything was smooth-sailing with him and it was calming. They floated around from thing to thing for a while until finally they settled down near a little bonfire on the beach and Harry brought up to her how she was quite avoidant of him at work and how he felt like maybe he was annoying or had done something wrong. Hearing that made Y/N pout because she had never intended to make him feel left out. She was just unsure of him and felt that maybe he needed to be humbled a bit. Naturally, she apologized and he let her know that it all good, and the pleasantness continued.
It was nearing midnight when Y/N had started saying her goodbyes to the people she'd met and Harry thoughtfully walked her back toward the gate and then insisted upon making sure she got to her car alright.
"Y/N, thank you for taking the time to come hang out." Harry said as she fiddled with her car keys, "It was good to clear the air and to see you outside of the work environment." he smiled.
"I'm glad we did too, but you didn't need to come up with this entire ruse to do that. You can call me out on my shit, Harry. " She said and he chuckled.
"I...I know I can. But I also just wanted to get to know you better. S'why I invited you. I think you're smart and kind and strong-willed and beautiful. And yeah, I just wanted to get to know you a little bit more." he repeated again, he seemed kind of unsure as his eyes met hers.
"Ummm, thank you." she said softly as the butterflies swarmed in her tummy. He thought she was beautiful? "I know I can be a bit...cold," she explained, "But I think I understand you a little bit more now." she said and he smiled.
"Good." he responded.
"I'm sorry again for making you feel left out or like I didn't like you. That's not cool." she admitted with a slight frown.
"Hey, it's all water under the bridge now, alright?" he said with a gentle smile on his face that appeased her inner guilt and she nodded, "Good. Well, I'll let you get home. But please let me know when you've made it safe, yeah?" he said and that made her smile.
"Of course. Thank you again, Harry."
"Anytime." he grinned before she climbed into her car and took off.
*************
All weekend Y/N had been thinking about Harry. Now that she'd actually interacted with him outside of work she had a better understanding about some of the things he did and said. He was self-assured, not arrogant, because he was never haughty about it. He wasn't a kiss-up, he was just considerate and had that servant-leadership quality. He always was willing to help and to be supportive of whoever was in need and that made people like him. He was a bit of a pest, but just because he liked to mess around and make the atmosphere feel less tense and no one seemed to mind it. Everyone liked Harry and now she did too. She couldn't stop thinking about the fact that he said she was beautiful. It made her heart race and she was excited to see him this morning. As she arrived at the pool she noticed that his car was already there. As she made her way into the building she called out for him but there was no response, so she went into her office and set her things down before heading out to the pool.
They had a private event today, so the pool was closed to the public, it was just them two as the lifeguards hired on for the pool party. As soon as she stepped out she saw that he was doing laps across the pool. She watched as his body powered through the water with ease and when he reached the wall he quickly kicked off and made his way back towards her and she approached the pool and then sat on the edge to dip her legs in. She was still in her t-shirt and shorts, her suit on underneath so that she could just throw her clothes off because needing to get on the tower. He was close now and when he finally reached for the ledge right beside her she smiled down at him as he panted as he held himself up.
"Morning." she said.
"Good morning." he said with a smile, "Care to join me? I've got two laps left." he said.
"I'm a little lazy." she admitted.
"It's the perfect warm-up for the day." he insisted, looking at her with these puppy dog eyes.
"Ugh...fine." she huffed in agreement and he smiled.
"But, I'll have you know this is a race." he added and she grinned as she swished her legs through the cool water.
"Yeah, alright you're on. What do I get when I win?" she asked smugly and he chuckled as he came closer to her, encasing her between his arms. She could feel his cold hands right beside hers and her knees where pressed against his firm abdomen, right against his butterfly as he leaned closer to her.
"Bold of you to assume..." He said with playful grin and she giggled.
"Alright, we'll just let the swimming do the talking then. But seriously, what does the winner get?" she asked again and he hummed as he thought about it, he hands now touching to hers against the edge of the pool.
"Well bragging rights obviously." he said with a grin and she hummed in agreement, "And how about...if I win I get to kiss you wherever you say it's OK." he said more softly, gauging her reaction and she rolled her lips against each other to suppress her need to give a smart ass comment about how he'd never win, but maybe now she wanted him to win. "And if you win...you can choose if I get to kiss you or not." he said again and she laughed softly, the space between them was minimal now. She hadn't even realized she'd parted her legs to let him get closer.
"You want to kiss me as a prize?" she asked incredulously.
"Hell yeah." he confirmed without any hesitation.
"Why?" she asked a bit more seriously.
"I told you Friday night. I think you're beautiful and I really enjoyed spending time with you. Been trying to get through that tough exterior for a while, think I've at least earned a kiss for that." he said smugly and she giggled before biting down on her lip.
"If you want to kiss me just kiss me. No games." she stated and he felt his heart pounding in his chest at what she had said.
"You'd let me kiss you? Just like that?" he asked and she shrugged.
"Why don't you find out?" she challenged him and he leaned in closer so that his forehead was against hers. He brought his right hand up to hold her face gently and he loved the way she leaned into his touch. His thumb skimmed along her bottom lip gently and it sent a shiver through her entire body, making her eyes flutter closed and her heart to pound erratically in her chest. She puckered her lips against his thumb and he bit down on his own lip at the gentle action. His other hand had now moved to her thigh, caressing it as she drew him in closer with it hiked up around his hip. She nudged her nose against his gently, she was starting to get antsy as he took his time. "Harry..." she whispered a plea to him and he smirked.
"What it is, honey?" he asked and she pressed her forehead against his with a little more urgency, "Want me to kiss you? S'that it?" he hummed lowly and she nodded, "Don't worry, I'll kiss you." he confirmed, "Kiss you slow and deep and then I'll bite and suck on that cute and pouty little bottom lip of yours." she whined at that and he felt her legs squeeze around him harder and his hold her thigh grew tighter, "You'd like that, right?" she nodded, her breathing was growing heavier as he grinned, wanting to completely undo her before he dipped in further, "But you're gonna be a good girl for me, aren't you? Can be patient and you'll wait until I'm good and ready to kiss you, right?" he asked and she nodded desperately, "Say it, honey."
"I'll be good for you." she muttered, their lips barely brushing. He let his hand slither down and position itself against her throat and he felt her pulse start picking up and he lost it. He crashed his lips into hers. His kiss was desperate and deep. Their tongues met almost instantly as he started pressing hard against the sides of her throat. He could feel her pulse start to slow down. "Harry." she whimpered and he groaned against her mouth before sucking her bottom lip between his lips as her mouth flew open. She was submissive to him, it made him want to take care of her in every way he could. Her grip was so tight on the edge of the pool that her fingers were starting to hurt. He parted his lips from her own and then left a quick little peck against them.
"Open up for me." he ordered and she didn't even think twice and he backed up some to take her in, "Gonna spit in your mouth, yeah?" as soon as he said that her thighs tightened around him and he grinned, "Such a little slut." he said to her before collecting his spit for a moment and harshly letting it splat against her tongue and she closed her mouth and swallowed it down. He then kissed her deeply, his arms tightened around her waist now before they parted with a wet gasp.
"Let's go to the office. Now." she said softly and he grinned.
"Really? Right now?" he asked and she nodded.
"Please?" she asked with hopeful eyes that were darkened by lust and he grinned against her lips.
"It was the 'please'." he said and she wanted to roll her eyes, but something told her that he wouldn't like that so she bit her lips again. "Go on then. Give me a minute to rinse off yeah?"
"OK." she said and pressed herself up and rushed back inside the building. Harry grinned as he watched her perfect ass jiggle with her rushed steps and he bit down on his lip. He was going to bend her over her desk and fuck her from behind. He was going to absolutely wreck her.

What is ChatGPT?
Tumblr media
ChatGPT is a new technology based on artificial intelligence. It is a large language model developed by OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research and publishing company. This model is based on a pre-trained GPT-3 generative transformer and uses natural language processing. In other words, ChatGPT is a model that is trained to absorb and understand user input, and thus respond to it via conversation.

“In six months, you’ll go home, having received a pardon. (…) Those who come with us and on the first day say, ‘I ended up somewhere I shouldn’t have’, we’ll mark a deserter and execute. (…) You have five minutes to decide.”
So said Yevgeny Prigozhin, self-confessed founder of the Russian private military company Wagner, to a group of inmates at Penal Colony 6 in Yoshkar Ola, capital of the region of Mari El, 645 kilometres east of Moscow. After the video from the prison surfaced in September 2022, the same pitch went out to convicts across Russia. But on February 9, Prigozhin confirmed in a response published on social media to a Russian TV station that Wagner had ceased hiring convicts. “We are fulfilling all obligations towards those currently working for us”, he wrote. As Bellingcat has previously reported, Wagner originated in Ukraine back in 2014. This private military contractor has risen to newfound prominence following Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022, most recently amid the fierce battle for Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.
Extensive news reporting in recent years has illustrated Wagner’s operations not only in Ukraine but also in Syria, the Central African Republic, Libya, and Madagascar, among other countries. In January, the US Treasury went as far as to label Wagner a “transnational criminal group”.
As analysts from the Carnegie Centre put it in 2019, Wagner’s usefulness lies in the fact that it can do, or claims it can do, what the Russian state and its formal institutions can’t. It is “a vehicle the Kremlin uses to recruit, train, and deploy mercenaries, either to fight wars or to provide security and training to friendly regimes.” “It is quite clear from the preparatory work that went into building the Wagner Group’s profile ahead of the February 2022 invasion that [Russian President] Putin counted on being able to use the Wagner Group to fill gaps in Russian military units”, said Candace Rondeaux, a Professor of Practice at the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University, in an interview with Bellingcat. “All the evidence has long pointed to close coordination between the Wagner Group’s leadership and both the GRU and FSB [Russia’s security services]” added Rondeaux, who has researched the Wagner group in depth in a series of reports. Due to Wagner’s secretive nature, it can be difficult to verify the number of fighters it commands, As of January 2023 estimates by the US and British ministries of defence ran to at least 50,000, convicts or not. The head of Russia Behind Bars, an NGO which protects the rights of prisoners, says that figure is convicts alone. Rondeaux told Bellingcat that she did not find these estimates credible and believes that they are “likely based on the some 30,000 men who are counted as missing or released from prison since the start of the war”.
Whatever the figure, Wagner has grown significantly since its inception. The fact that the group operates openly at all suggests that its usefulness to the state is recognised – although private military contractors are technically illegal under Russian law under Article 359 of the criminal code, in 2018 Russian President Vladimir said that Wagner does not break Russian law. So Prigozhin’s promises to these prisoners also have a presidential pedigree – Russian presidential Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov admitted on January 27 that Putin is indeed issuing pardons to convicts who fight for Wagner, noting that one of them received a medal from the president for his “heroism” in Ukraine.
Local media reported Wagner recruiters visiting prisons in every corner of Russia – Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Kemerovo, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, and many others. RFE/RL’s report from a prison in Primorsky Krai noted that over 100 prisoners are often enlisted in each recruitment trip. Prigozhin has also taken foreign citizens from Russia’s jails; one man from Zambia and one from Tanzania have died while fighting for Wagner in eastern Ukraine. According to news reports, both men were studying in Moscow before being imprisoned for drug offences.
At the Yoshkar Ola prison, Prigozhin noted that Wagner wanted inmates under the age of 50. However, several recruited convicts have well exceeded this limit. Three of them include 59-year-old Sergei Maksimenko, 55-year-old Andrey Berezhnykh, and 55-year-old Igor Kusk.
These three men are notable not just due to their age, but due to the fact that each led violent criminal gangs in the 1990s. One of the major legitimation strategies for Putin and his enduring political power is his claim of bringing stability to Russia after that tumultuous decade. This plea towards stability helped justify previous military interventions, such as in Chechnya early in Putin’s ascendance, and the country has come full circle – the men who helped create the instability of Russia in the 1990s are fighting, and dying, in Russia’s latest war.
Each of these three former gang leaders tried to fight for a pardon, but instead died in Ukraine. Who were they, and how were their deaths received back home?

So a lot has happened and I’ve had a time of it. (Got fired!)
So first things first. After 9 years of service, I got fired from my job at the library. That’s why I haven’t been around. The old assistant director quit and was replaced with the worst human being on the planet. I mean this woman was cartoonishly evil. If I described even half the things she did you would think I was just describing some Saturday morning cartoon villain. Then after she got hired the director decided to retire without warning and without securing a replacement for herself. Meaning our evil assistant director was left to run the library until the board could find a new director. She ran the place for just a little over a year, which has been one of the most trying years of my life. Every day has been a living hell of stress and paranoia. The assistant director started targeting everyone who didn’t fit her specific type for what she wanted for employees. So in other words, if you weren’t a teenage girl, you were getting targeted. I’ve spent the last year watching all of my old coworkers targeted and harassed until they couldn’t take it anymore and finally quit, all while suffering the same treatment myself. I talked to a lawyer multiple times and kept being told there was nothing they could do. Until eventually I was the last member of the old staff left (because I was too stubborn to quit). And then when the board couldn’t find anyone with the qualifications to take the job, they made the assistant director (who also didn’t have the qualifications but was already doing the job) into the new director. And the moment she had that position her very first act was to just fire me without giving any reason for it.
I’ve spent a little over a month unemployed. I put in job applications all over the place but getting fired doesn’t look good so most of them have not been calling me back. One of the places I applied at actually sent me a rejection letter without even bothering to interview me. I managed to score an interview at a shoe store only to be told to expect a call on a specific day and then never receive that call... Applying for unemployment was almost more of a hassle than it was worth. First it was tied up forever because my former boss was trying to deny giving it to me, but when she couldn’t provide any proof that I was fired for breaking any company policies I was finally approved... but the unemployment office used every little technicality they could find to NOT pay me as often as they could. I was unemployed for a little over a month and in that time only got paid for 2 weeks.
I have finally found a new job. One of the only two places to actually interview me has offered me a job. It’s a used game store (not Game Stop). I’m pretty excited to work there as it was one of my top picks. Although it’s been a full week now since I went in to fill out my paperwork and I still haven’t been called back yet to be told when I actually start. I’m starting to wonder what’s going on... Does it really take that long to run a background check? I hope nothing has gone wrong. If I don’t get this job I’m going to be completely screwed and unable to pay my next set of bills.
And that’s been about it. I’ve tried to get some writing done in the time I’ve had but I’ve mostly just been in a depressive funk and drowning sorrows in playing Sons of the Forest.

Meet My Secret Identity… It's a common misconception that mysterious men in black and other quasi-governmental spies and agents are necessarily ghosts without fingerprints, licenses, or lives outside of work. In fact, most shady operatives get to choose how to conduct their top-secret affairs: Will they live happily under their real names with fictitious day jobs? Will they assume a fake name and infiltrate a real company with ulterior motives? Or will they insist on a totally hidden existence, navigating bureaucratic nightmares and cleaning up after their own every move?

This is gonna be a weird and long post but its necessary, so you have been warned.
Getting right into the substance of it:
IF YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR A JOB AT MCDONALDS OR ANY OTHER 'LOW-SKILL' INDUSTRY AND BEEN REJECTED, DO NOT FEEL BAD
I've recently stumbled across a variety of posts suggesting that the process of applying to jobs in retail or fast food is easy, and more commonly, that being rejected from one of these jobs is a sign of incompetence. This is not true.
People make these assumptions based on the fact that the job itself doesn't usually have any skill requirements, and culturally these jobs are perceived as low-value. Incidentally, many of the people making these assumptions have never worked fast food or retail 😉
Here are some reasons why its actually really difficult to get hired in these industries:
1. Volume
What a lot of people conveniently ignore when talking about these jobs is that, if there's no barrier to entry, you're going to have tons more applications per place compared to a super academic or technical career. Depending on where you live, there could be as many as 50-100 people competing over the same position. Based on that alone, you're already at a disadvantage based on sheer numbers
2. Intensity
With that in mind, hiring managers at these companies are looking at a hundred applications and have to find some means of differentiating between them to find one perfect candidate. As such, you're gonna get put through a lot more hoops to filter you out (per my earlier point, McDonald's has a three-stage application programme, which is equivalent or more intensive than most industries)
3. Arbitrariness
Thats assuming that, as part of thinning the herd, your application isn't immediately binned because you formatted your CV incorrectly (yes you need a CV), you don't have any experience or the HM deselected everyone whose surname began with the letter S. You could apply for a dozen jobs before they even see your name.
4. Personability
The big difference with these kinds of jobs is that, more often than not, they're customer service-based. If you make it to interview, they're not focussing so much on your actual responses as they are on how you look, how you talk and how you act, with the idea in mind that you're meant to be the perfect waxwork model of corporate pleasantry. Fail at that in the slightest and you're out.
I don't say any of this to discourage anyone from applying to these jobs: quite the opposite, I think everyone should work retail or food service at some point! But don't be disheartened if you get rejected by an 'easy' company. I applied to a dozen jobs before getting my first, and was rejected by a number of fast food joints (McDonalds included), and by the standards of the industry I'm considered lucky. There's a reason people say 'a first job is a first job'. Most of the people mocking these kinds of jobs are the kinds of people who will keel over and collapse at the first sign of adversity. Just keep persevering and eventually you'll find the place for you!
