Since the incident, Hui Ying and Li Hua's relationship has been strained, to say the least. However, their parents passing away really made Hui Ying think about the importance of keeping the family together. Plus, Li Hua looked a little different now, lip filler and all. The changes made Hui Ying think about how much time really passed.
Tumblr media
Hui Ying: "Babies can be so hard on your body! But I've been taking the gym super seriously."
Tumblr media
Li Hua: "I would've given up and got lipo, but okay."
Also, it's fun seeing how short Hui Ying is compared to her sister.
For the first time, Li Hua got to meet her niece and nephew, Ming Fei and Cheng.
Tumblr media
Ming Fei: "Nice to meet you, auntie Li! You are SO fashionable! What are you, a model?" Li Hua: "I model plastic. This is all Botox, honey."
Later in the week, Hui Ying also took the twins over to see Willow. As a star on Broadway, Willow doesn't usually have much time these days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Willow: "The Arts is such a big part of my life. You know, your older sister LOVES music. Do you have any interest in—" Ming Fei: "No. What do you even DO all day? Prance around in a rabbit skin bathrobe and hangover shades?"
Tumblr media
Willow: "Traveling the world really makes you a more self-aware, well-rounded—" Ming Fei: "I think I'd rather be like auntie Li."
Tumblr media
At least Cheng seemed kinda into it.

wait.. i’m literally on here or weibo almost 24/7 ( as you can tell lol ) but I feel like i missed something. i’m seeing clowning related to xz’s photos and how it looks like he is a groom and it’s a wedding photoshoot. the place is also famous for wedding shoots ( allegedly, idk. i’m not from there ) so turtles are imagining again. lol. freakin coincidence that wyb’s GRA photoshoot was done at a wedding shop. plus the “wedding outfits” for weibo night. which is all clowning and galaxy braining.🌌
Tumblr media
now, we’re joking around, like where’s yibo? he should be taking photos with his partner.
then i see comments that there is this one song WYB recently listened to. meaning, as recent as when XZ flew to singapore which is called 超人不会飞 (superman can’t fly) by Jay Chou. i know WYB and everyone else is a big fan of Jay Chou but the clowning comes from the timing of when he listened to it. let me get to that first.
here is the song if you wanna listen to it. 🎶
youtube
turtles are interpreting it as WYB longing to “fly” to where XZ is and be with him but he can’t because of all his work commitments. he wants to take a breather. thinking about what his life is and the constraints, and at times like this, when they spent days in Beijing, but now they have to be apart, it affects him even more.
however when i read the lyrics, it could also be because he can relate to what jay chou is singing about. here’s the english translation i found here. i have bolded the ones i felt like WYB relates too. literally no need for explanation. just read it. It fits with his status in life so much that it’s almost scary.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with how cpfs are relating this to cpn cause that’s just how it is. But sometimes, there are other reasons why they do what they do.
SO MY CONFUSION COMES FROM HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HE RECENTLY LISTENED TO. I can’t seem to dig up how or maybe it’s something we don’t talk about. I have never experienced this kind of tidbit related to them before so I wanna know the source. Or is this like the gaming cpn where certain people know and they will not divulge the boy’s account for privacy? if anyone knows, feel free to comment. If i find out in the future, I will share.

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost
Tumblr media
Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.
A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.
You can find all the songs on Bilibili. The official Weibo can be found here. The game's website, which includes all characters appearing so far in the game, can be found here, and its Weibo can be found here.
(If you prefer YouTube, I've also put together a handy playlist. Please know that most of these videos are reposts though, so please watch the original Bilibili MVs if you can!)
This blog is where I will be posting everything I feel like I need to say about the songs in this project. A lot of it is lifted from my Twitter account but will be in much more detail. Note that I probably won't touch collab songs, or songs that don't focus solely on the project's own characters.
Disclaimer: I do not speak Chinese, nor am I an expert on Chinese history. Therefore, I cannot reliably translate the lyrics to these songs, nor my words should be taken as gospel. I am merely a nerd gushing about my hyperfixation.

Yuletide Letter
Fandoms: Tai Sui, Night in the Lonesome October, Return of Mount Hua sect.
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT
Dear Yuletide writer - thanks! I love plot and worldbuilding and shenanigans, and also darkfic on occasion, and I look forward to seeing what you write.
Tai Sui
I love everything about Tai Sui – the characters, the setting, the plot, the feels…everything. (I’d say everyone, too, but this isn’t true as long as Xiang Rong exists.) Also, I’m a multi-shipper, so I am fully convinced of the validity/OTP truth of…many, many things. Sometimes (often?) simultaneously. Incidental spoilers in the suggestions.
So for my request I want non-standard genre fic and/or wacky hijinks, preferably both (though only set in canon). The suggestions below are NOT in order of preference (I’d probably say Lin Chi first, then Zhou Ying, then Zhao Qindan, then Yu Chang)
Zhao Qindan – for Zhao Qindan, I generally ship her with Wei Chengxiang, and I love the squabbling dynamic both of them have with Xi Ping (though not shipping in that case).
Suggestions:
An article written in the style of the toilet bulletins describing…something going on, possibly another pairing (feat. Xi Ping? Yu Chang?), but in the most sarcastic with plausible deniably style possible. Extra points for in-universe appropriate multimedia
Zhao Qindan/Wei Chengxiang shenanigans, film noir style (or book noir style for that matter). parody film noir also good
Police procedural mystery solving with background Zhao Qindan/Wei Chengxiang? Maybe featuring Pang Jian finally getting to live out his dreams of being a cop in a world in which cop isn’t really a job?
Courtship letters between Zhao Qindan and Wei Chengxiang that are 95% about foreign food
Lin Chi – I ship Lin Chi/Wen Fei, disaster duo, and of course Lin Chi’s forever doomed one-sided puppy crush on Hui Xiangjun.  Also the dynamic of Lin Chi, harassed college student stuck babysitting child neighbor Zhi Xiu and toddler Xi Ping while they play with dynamite. And I really like the suggestive little hints we get about Lin Chi and Lin Zongyi and what could have been if canon was not...canon.
Suggestions:
Lin Chi/Wen Fei, buddy cop travelogue. Maybe solving a murder? causing a murder? both?
Something from Lin Chi’s POV, in which he very nearly notices how much havoc everyone around him is causing and trying to hide from him
Lin Chi-written reference manual or error log entries, complete with errata and vague commentary that somehow conveys the monumental disasters that caused him to need to invent these things/fix these things/etc.
Excerpts from Lin Chi’s official letters of complaint to Zhi Xiu about His New Disciple
Lin Chi and Lin Zongyi having the world’s most awkward non-verbal conversations at family parties for years and years and YEARS and somehow both never realizing that they’re actually really close
Fix-it in which somehow we get Lin Zongyi back to hang out with Lin Chi, in either ghostly or corporeal form. Possibly in a situation where Lin Chi is hiding this return from everyone else. I’d be open to Lin Zongyi/Lin Chi in this context :) If you write this one I will extra love you forever
Zhou Ying – as far as I’m concerned, Zhou Ying/Xi Ping is canon, and Zhou Ying&Zhi Xiu, divorced parents fighting over who takes care of Xi Ping better, is also canon. But Zhou Ying, everybody’s problem now, is the most canon.
Zhou Ying & Zhi Xiu (or, even better, Zhou Ying/Zhi Xiu), stuck together doing something. Maybe another buddy cop travelogue, except somehow even worse than the Lin Chi/Wen Fei version, maybe they’re just stuck in an elevator, but either way turn the bitchy pettiness up to 11
There is deaged Zhou Ying and literally only Bai Ling and Xi Ping think it’s cute, everyone else is just horrified at how much damage a single small child can cause
Bby!Zhou Ying & Bai Ling, here to cause problems and cause problems, and they’re all out of…no, they’ve actually made new problems
Extra points for Zhou Ying somehow managing to meet and befriend Luo Qingshi, preferably not during his clarity phase
Yu Chang – He is evil, but baby (in his own POV, anyway). Rule: always loses, but somehow usually still manages to get what he actually needs in the end (no relation to what he wants). Open to Yu Chang/Xi Ping spitesex and/or long-standing frenemy relationship while Xi Ping/Zhou Ying OTPs in the background.
Canon, but told in the style of “Yu Chang’s Very Bad No Good Really Terrible Lifetime”
Yu Chang doesn’t trust anyone, so he keeps the meeting minutes for his multiple conspiracies. With commentary. Very mean commentary.
You know the trope with someone developing the ability to see ghosts? That, except it’s Yu Chang suddenly being able to perceive a ghostly Zhou Ying who is now commenting gleefully on the Yu Chang/Xi Ping shenanigans and Yu Chang haaaaaaates it
Yu Chang/Xi Ping stuck together and forced to work together, complete with Yu Chang’s inevitable backstabbing attempts and Xi Ping’s equally inevitable outsmarting him over it, but also a get-together story. Preferably but not necessarily told in a series of Looney Toons style shorts.
Additional request:
Any of the requested characters time traveling and meeting the 3 Elders (especially Lin Zongyi) as they are in the extra. Just come stab me.
DNW: no predestination, no infidelity (people can be sleeping with multiple people at a time but no one should feel like they’re cheating or be angsting about it. Minor exception for Yu Chang somehow making spiteful comments about Xi Ping, especially if he’s always wrong about who he thinks Xi Ping is cheating on), no anti-sex-worker stuff, no mindbreaks or permanent amputation of a body part, no in-fic unhappy endings. NO modern AUs or complete AUS (i.e. Zhao Qindan is a reporter from the beginning) – please only canon-verse settings, although deviations from canon-verse (e.g. the world doesn’t work quite the same way, people don’t die, irrevocable things don’t occur or if they do it was somehow not fatal, etc.) are OK.
 Night in the Lonesome October
The Count was my favorite character as a kid, especially the reveal moment…!
In short: I would very much like post-canon Count/Jack/Jill fic. Ideally get-together fic - possibly where they are all forced to live together for whatever reason? Possibly where Something happened offscreen during October and they’re still settling into a new dynamic as a result?
All the points for dealing with recovery from the events of canon (esp. for the Count), dealing with adjusting to each other’s little “quirks” (there’s a difference between dealing with it for a month in the abstract and literally living with it, whether it’s the Count’s particular diet or Jack’s knife issues or Jill’s everything), dealing with manners/expectations from different eras, and possibly them getting stuck in the Dreamlands and needing some help from Snuff or Greymalkin or Needle (or all of them!) to get out because that would be cool. I’d also be into something in which they have to rescue each other from the different situations - Jack from the police, the Count from hunters, Jill from...different type of hunters and/or morality police.
I have thrown Snuff in there because I would be really amused by temporarily-stuck-as-a-bat-or-wolf!Count and Snuff hanging out.
DNW: no predestination, no infidelity, no “the Openers should win”, only happy endings please
Return of Mount Hua
I’ve been enjoying the manhwa so far, but I’m only reading the translation, so please no spoilers past that.
I know our protagonist doesn’t much care for the silly cliché backstory going on between Baek Chun and Jin Geumryong, but I certainly do! I’d like toxic relationship darkfic Jin Geumryong/Baek Chun (either as Baek Chun or Jin Dongryong) please, with extra points for obsessive Jin Geumryong who both wants to humiliate Baek Chun but also keep him. NOT angsty, please, just sexy dubious badwrong.
Also OK with something in which Jin Dongryong is the initial victim but eventual victor (…but still into the original dynamic they have), and something in which they have to find equilibrium. Or maybe something in which they have to work together post-current-canon and deal with their new dynamic.
DNW: either character being completely broken – i.e. nothing where Jin Geumryong is shattered by losing and becomes a shadow of himself, nothing in which Baek Chun breaks and gives up completely because he can never win; no infidelity, no permanent mindbreak/amputation of a body part, no spoilers past the current translation point, happy endings only please
Kan mænd undværes?
Max deserves better!
...yeah, that’s it, that’s the prompt XD Max not getting the canon end, but something better. with someone who isn’t Maja. Complete AUs are OK (e.g. gangsters! pirates! space!), but modern AUs are not. I would like it if we got to see Max and Nisse spending time together, but not necessarily. Maybe they can go on some adventure, just the two of them?
also under the circumstances I’m specifying no on screen infidelity on the DNW list (see: Maja. see: the plot) rather than total DNW infidelity, since we can be dealing with the aftereffects, but I’d rather it not be the main focus of the plot
DNW: no on screen infidelity, no endgame Max/Maja, no amputation or mindbreak, no bad end, happy ending only please

Amitabha Buddha’s eighteenth Vow is the King of all Fundamental Vows.
Start the day. Think of what u can take with u when u die? What u can take with u is 阿弥陀佛. Others like money, social status, property, food, love ones, feelings & etc. cannot be taken with u. For whatever u cant take with u, just let go...
1. Namo Amitabha x 10 times, 阿弥陀佛. 🙂
2. Sending gratitude to the Universe & Amitabha.
3. Wish that all beings can meet Amitabha and be reborn in Sukhavati - Western Pureland.
Zeng yip. hwazang. 6 gen needs sau hui lai become 1 yin.
You are undervalued.
32 creates everythg when combined.
Formula for success: Lou se (Honesty), Ting hua (listen to the Buddha), Zhen kan (really do), fang xia (let go).
May sentient beings caught in the various realms of rebirth be reborn soon in my land, so they can enjoy peace and happiness.  Exercising compassion constantly to save all beings, I will deliver them from Avici Hell.  “May sentient beings caught in the various realms of rebirth be reborn soon in my land, so they can enjoy peace and happiness.”  This is a message from Amitabha Buddha to all beings.
Understanding yuan chi (yun hei) is the starting point for cultivation to enlightenment. One tung everything will tung, means u understand the rise/fall in life (cycle), next step is let go, make vows (to zhong sarng), then go pureland whuch is the end is also the beginning is also the end. From then on u will start to save and liberate other, having learn from the enlightened ones on how to nian fo cheng fo. Lower down the expectations to achieved more. Set goals that are low so u could achieve more. Start something but start low. No frustration. The power to create depends on this, the more u let go, the more u create, the more u give the more u get, the more u desire the more u give love to others. Human has 84,000 yip need 84,000 fart mun to resolve. Nianfo is outside of all these fart mun and need to learn how meet the requirements to be reborn in Western Pureland. Must maintain 10 leem tao of buddha name and ying sing bu luan.
Amitabha Buddha’s eighteenth Vow is the King of all Fundamental Vows because all the benefits and merits of admiring the 47 vows eventually return us to the 18th, the Vow of Amitabha-Recitation for Rebirth. The 18th Vow states:
If, when I attain Buddhahood, sentient beings in the lands of the ten directions who sincerely and joyfully entrust themselves to me, desire to be born in my land, and call my Name, even ten times, should not be born there, may I not attain perfect Enlightenment. Excluded, however, are those who commit the five gravest offences and abuse the right Dharma.
Among the 48 vows, the words “should they not be born there, may I not attain perfect Enlightenment” are found only in the 18th Vow, not in the other two vows of rebirth, the 19th and 20th Vows. It is only the 18th Vow upon which the pristine Pure Land School is founded. If there were no 18th Vow, there would be no Pure Land School. 5 Skandhas. Materiality & spirituality. All buddhas have their own individual causal vows, but Amitabha’s 18th Vow is the foremost among them, so Amitabha Buddha is known as the Buddha of the Great Vow. It could be said that Amitabha was the example for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, who is also known as the Bodhisattva of the Great Vow, as Ksitigarbha’s vow is the greatest among all bodhisattvas. Tam chan chi cheng yuk. UFO. Chung kuo tai. Third eye can open.
Universe started together when your xin (mind) is shakened. Yi than zhin too many 32,000. Xing fu yuan man. It is created even before any time and space. Alaya consciousness is created. How big? Bigger than the universe, it is zhe xin. Lun wui is to tai yim and change it. Meng sarm kin seng (sarm leng) where u have chap seng (dirty, tham chan chi, ko sarng wud too use to it this turned into wisdom, chi seng sickness). Sarng meng is sarng wud. Zhuan seng to become zhi wai. Fui fuk zhi seng, seng fat (cheng fo). Close to Enlightenment which is with no differentiation. Mona become pin deng. Xin fo peng deng. That is the state of Buddhahood. Time & space came from one source. Me but still got fa sheng. Western Pureland is created by it too of Amitabha Buddha but it does not have 'zhi xin dong nian'. Non differentiation mind. The truth behind the tooth. The papaya croach story. When you let go of yourself, you got the world. When you let go of this world, you will get Western Pureland. Tree is life. Today is world environmental day, Jun 5th 2022. A tree is a universe. Money is printed from destroying a universe (tree) and then used in ways to cause more harm to the planet, the universe. Change it dont chase for it, seek and manage. Everything you do, everyone you see, dharma help you see the truth all attachments become saha world, then suffering arise, everything is Amituofo, the way you see the world becomes Amituofo. Ching jing peng deng sure reborn in Pureland. Practicex3. Zhen fa meng ru lai (Kuan yin aeons ago. Kuan ser yin ru lai teaches Kuan Ser Yin pusa the disciple, er kern zhui ling). My true nature is the Buddha. Wui guai zhi sing. Dharma is the cure of sickness (Fart). Li (bu shen bu miet) ser jen, xiang sher jia. Xin is chen, ser is jia. True or false also dont be too attached.  Bu ji xing dong nien jiu ser the tips. With a sickness, ji, xing, dong, nien, fern, bie, zhe, zhuo (6 gen). Karn po. Yi cher yau wei fart, sern miet fa. Mei lai mei chu, sam mo se de mei you. Wo you 3 bao. Ching jing peng den. Arhat achieve zeng jue. Pusa practice Peng deng xin to achieve chen deng zeng jue, Buddha chen wu sarng chen deng jue. Ser jie wan wu ser yi ti. This body is my manifestation (you r the greatest magician). Dont do anything in saha world that makes you attached too much that you couldnt let go and seek rebirth in Western Pureland. Wu xin is Amituofo. Amituofo is my xin. Every ben xin is Amituofo. You seek yourself. Let yourself be found, not search outside but inside. The world is using a piece of paper to weigh everything, cert for qualification, paper owns land and houses. A piece of paper becomes everything, your self worth as light as a piece of paper....Jing zhen guo. Fang xia chai but ku, let go and burden's gone...Compassion is your focus, is your life. If no compassion then only left unhappiness and sorrow. Happiness in Saha world is the start of unhappiness. Go back to the neutral state is happiness, no unhappiness. You need to peace down, silent give rise to wisdom. My heart is my way place. Wo xin ju shi tao chang. Fo got 52 jie ti. Let go, become Arhat, let go become Pusa and let go become Buddha. 1 second contains 1600 leem which is rise / fall. Life & death. Change alaya to 9 sik then end, no more life & death. Wu wo.a
Chaotu prayers / retreat: Lunch by 1.30 pm on Pusa 8 kwan zhai day. Note: June 21st in china kills dog, Korea, Vietnam, use zhi lig, fa lig, fo lig. Then, it will combined at a great strength to change the world. 30 days be vegan. House concept, a house its like a cell. No matter how beautiful, you are trapped within. Your body is already like a house. Ur problem is u let go of ur house and came here, that is the dna effect of leaving China to Malaysia living a house there like grandpa. Let go 1. Love. 2. Ego. 3. Doubt. Then be born in western pureland. Amituofo + 1000 Guan ser yin pu sa (1 men). Use zhen sing and peng deng xin. Get away from yuan, called li yuan.
All problems are caused by yu wang, cause of 6 realms of rebirth, u loose Buddhahood becos of yu wang. Seong kung yeong, har pin po xi. Shang kung xia shi. Sau harng, sau kung yeong. Biggest fu is ching jeng sam but xin but ngok, warng sarng jeng to (pureland).

Buddhist morality is codified in the form of 10 precepts (dasa-sīla), which require abstention from: (1) taking life; (2) taking what is not given; (3) committing sexual misconduct (interpreted as anything less than chastity for the monk and as sexual conduct contrary to proper social norms, such as adultery, for the layman); (4) engaging in false speech; (5) using intoxicants; (6) eating after midday; (7) participating in worldly amusements; (8) adorning the body with ornaments and using perfume; (9) sleeping on high and luxurious beds; and (10) accepting gold and silver.
Laymen are to observe the first five precepts (pañca-sīla) at all times. Occasionally, such as during the fortnightly fast day, they may observe eight precepts (aṣṭā-sīla; the first nine, with the seventh and eight combined as one). Normally, the full 10 vows are observed only by monks or nuns, who also follow the detailed monastic rules (see pātimokkha) that are a further elaboration of the precepts.

“After I pass away and my pure doctrine is absent,

-Buddha Shakyamuni in the Root Tantra of Manjushri
You need to nian fo then can achieve fo.
But now, you only nian 6 realm of rebirth how to achieve fo?
You are fo why cannot become fo?
Becos u never let go of the 6 realm of rebirth activities. Greed, anger, ignorance
(3 poisons need to let go 1st)
All ppl are the creation of their minds.
Then can u nian fo (real valuable activities  the rests are useless)? All problems are due to cant let go of afflictions. Zhe xin give rise to Amituofo & Western Pureland. All existence is creation of the mind. How to let go of everything and seek rebirth in Pureland. All existence, this Saha world is creation of the mind / messy thoughts. Our body is our own manifestation of the (our) mind. Let go of the thoughts and mind, it will take u to next creation / manifestation. Practice but forget don't put practice into the mind. Be forgetful but only remember where you are going, Western Pureland so keep that in mind. This is called freedom of the mind (like depicted in Heart Sutra, freedom - zezai), our only aim which is zezai warng serng si fang ji le sher chieh. Love is the opposite of wisdom. Wisdom can only arise from compassion if you can turn love to compassion. Love can be a distraction to a cultivator. Love is not real. Reason stuck in 6 realms of retribution is love (because got form and conditions), everything of this nature is impermanent, hence love is not real, jia xiang. U cant come out. Dont let jia siang chi pien ni de xin. Dont be fooled by a false image / appearance. Use peng deng xin to console sentient beings, Buddha treat everyone like his father, the King. The thanxiang, cow agarwood no longer here. Go Western Pureland: (Haitao Fashi) Use 3 fu tien, kan ern de fu tien, zhun jing de fu tien, cher pei de fu tien. (Chin Kung Fashi) 3 fu, xiao shun fu mu / respective teachers - 1. Filial piety is the root. 2. Take refuges, san kwai yi / chi kai. 3. Sam sun yan ko (first, nian fo yin, cheng fo zhi ko). Ying guang fa shi. Wu liang yik
zhi zhai fan now, Da zhi zai tien wang tha men di fu de guang ming bu nen kan dao.  In front of rulai, it's gone. Fan fu. We have 51 mental factors
https:///wiki/Mental_factors_(Buddhism)
- sing so 11 san de (seong ying), fanuo de 26 (seong ying). The 10 recitation method x 9 times in a day, 2 minutes each time, nian nian bu warng Amituofo. The tipper is must be continuous....then u see improvement (kungfu). Must use chen xing. (Learn from the best learn from the Muslims. Let go to do prayer when the time comes.) Ying ye, 5 jie 10 sarn. Huan xi pu ser. Pu ser, cai yuen guenx2 lai. All existence are manifestation of karma, the fruits of causes (combination of effects). All are swihuan de. At one point, u are here, there, everywhere in the universe of existence, different space and time like a multiverse. This body is like a bowl of water with lots of salt added (a.k.a. sufferings which r the effects of ur past karma). Everything u have contact with is to let u 'suffer' all circumstances created in
some past lives that u cant see or remember. The purpose of cultivation is to realised this truth (6 realms of rebirth). To break and escape this cycle is to achieve Buddhahood. Fastest way is to see all existences as one and of the same. If u destroy ur own defilements u are doing the same for others only when u have compassion and use 'peng deng, chi pei, po re xin'. This body is yeap bo. Life is like a bowl of salt water. Living it is like drinking it. You need to add more water not morr salt so it geys better over time. Get out of it, pour it back to the sea. You dont need to drink it. It is where water would return (thru true self discovery and enlightenment, practice of Buddhism to the highest level).
4 Universal Vows
Also sometimes called the Bodhisattva Vows, as they are essential to the Bodhisattva path of Mahāyāna Buddhism.

Ken ching qiu fangxia yuen:
1. Du bu qu. Sorry.
2. Ching yuan liang wo. Please forgive me.
3. Xie xie ni. Thank you.
4. Wo ai ni. I love you.
Duration of cultivation:
41 years. May 3rd, 2022 - May 3rd, 2062 (add one year worth of cultivation)
When the Prince, Siddhartha Gautama bids
farewell to his father saying:
Even my love for Yasodhara…and my son...cannot remove the pain I feel.
For I know that they too will have to suffer,
grow old…and die.
Like you, like me, like us all.
Yes. We must all die…
and be reborn…
and die again,
and be reborn and die,
and be reborn and die again.
No man can ever escape that curse.
Then that…is my task. I…will lift that curse.
At the moment of the attainment of awakening, the Buddha uttered the following:
"I travelled through the rounds of countless births through the cycle of existence,
Seeking but not finding the builder of this house [of 'self'] and again and again, I faced the suffering of new birth.
O Housebuilder, you have now been seen,
You shall not build a house again for me.
Your beams [defilements] have now been broken, Your ridgepole [ignorance] utterly shattered.
My mind has attained the supreme 'nibbana' ('blowing out')
Realised is the unconditioned, Achieved is the end of craving."
- Siddhartha Gautama
(Dhammapada Verses 153 and 154)
When attachment arises in our mind it does not feel harmful; on the contrary it usually feels beneficial. Therefore, it is important to contemplate repeatedly the faults of attachment and to recognize it as a delusion whose only function is to cause us harm.
Remember one cannot trust what you sees because ur eyes are imperfecg and cannot see the absolute truth. This organ limitation is bounded by it creations. It is created from delusion. Amitabha Buddha’s eighteenth Vow is the King of all Fundamental Vows
Start the day
Think of what u can take with u when u die?

Greed, anger, ignorance (3 poisons need to let go 1st)
Wu liang yik zhi zhai fan now, Da zhi zai tien wang tha men di fu de guang ming bu nen kan dao.
Everything u have contact with is to let u 'suffer' all circumstances created in some past lives that u cant see or remember.
1. Sentient beings are limitless; I vow to liberate them.
眾生無邊誓願度
Zhòngshēng wúbiān shìyuàn dù
Zhong Shen Wu Bian Ser Yuan Tu
2. Afflictions are endless; I vow to eradicate them.
煩惱無盡誓願斷
Fánnǎo wújìn shìyuàn duàn
Fan Now Wu Jing Ser Yuan Tuan.
3. Teachings are infinite; I vow to learn them.
法門無量誓願學
Fǎmén wúliàng shìyuàn xué
Fa Men Wu Liang Ser Yuan Shue.
4. Buddhahood is supreme; I vow to attain it.
佛道無上誓願成
Fú dào wú shàng shìyuàn chéng
Fo Dao Wu Sharng Ser Yuan Chern.
Om Bodhicitta, Mudaba, Dayami.
Oṃ Bodhicittam Utpādayāmi
Say this 4 things, ask to let go:
Ken ching qiu fangxia yuen:
1. Du bu qu. Sorry.
2. Ching yuan liang wo. Please forgive me.
3. Xie xie ni. Thank you.
4. Wo ai ni. I love you.
Duration of cultivation:
41 years. May 3rd, 2022 - May 3rd, 2062 (add one year worth of cultivation)
When the Prince, Siddhartha Gautama bids farewell to his father saying:
Even my love for Yasodhara…and my son…
cannot remove the pain I feel.
My mind has attained the supreme
'nibbana' ('blowing out')
Realised is the unconditioned, Achieved is the end of craving."
What is deluded cannot revealed it undeluded nature. Just like the blind leading the blind...it is still within the same state which is called suffering. When u see without seeing and when u have sight of not using any organ is when the truth would be revealed and the absolute truth is the state overcoming delusion or samsara, the true escape of realm of rebirths. Is when u crossed the other shore. The state of relization, Buddhood, the enlightment. Life's biggest problem is reincarnation. Settle that, settle death using Buddha name recitation and seek rebirth in Western Pureland. Turn back bad effect. Power of Amitabha Buddha, power of others not you. Can u fly, cannot but plane and make u fly, power of others. Simplify cultivation, use 4 letter words or 6 letter words, most utmost technology to take u from all sufferings to ultimate bliss.

The Zhangs were in the midst of another year of transitions. Li Hua grew her hair back (shaving it off was a tragedy that happened in the sorority when liquid courage influenced her to believe letting a beauty school student cut her hair was a good idea). Jennifer went to a licensed hairstylist to cut her hair shorter. The OGs hosted garden parties. Willow filled her parents in about how great college was going for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Money was getting tight for Hui Ying and Berjes, so they decided to sell their first house and move into a fixer-upper next to Hui Ying's parents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Li Hua had just completed her degree, and her parents didn't have any spare bedrooms. Hui Ying extended her home to Li Hua. A big house starts to feel lonely after a while.
Tumblr media
While Hui Ying and Berjes were at work, Li Hua was still looking for jobs with vacancies. In the meantime, she kept the house clean.
Tumblr media
Li Hua: "Congratulations on your promotion at the office! I baked you a cake."
Hui Ying: "Thank you! It's been a long day. Are you okay with watching Mei Xing? I'm gonna head to the gym and run some errands. I'll be back later tonight. If not, that's cool, too."
Li Hua: "No, it's all good! I like that little rascal."
Not too long after Hui Ying left the house, Berjes was home from his job, with a very unwelcome suprise.

Li Hua: "So...you and my sister aren't married. What's the deal? Are you still looking around, because you seem a bit obsessed with me. You used to be a bartender, right? I can see that little bit of rebellion in your eyes."
Berjes: "Um, wow. No. Li Hua, you're really getting the wrong idea."

Hui Ying would come home, yet again, to something she wouldn't expect, and it wasn't going to be a cake.

Han Ying-jie (center) in A Touch of Zen (King Hu, 1971) Cast: Hsu Feng, Shih Chun, Bai Ying, Xue Han, Roy Chiao, Tien Peng, Zhang Bing-yu, Wang Rui, Han Ying-jie. Screenplay: King Hu, based on a story by Songling Pu. Cinematography: Hua Hui-ying. I'm not an expert on or even a devotee of Asian martial arts films (wuxia), so I come to A Touch of Zen with more than a touch of naïveté. It's a celebrated film for its elevation of the genre into the realm of art, and that part of it I can appreciate, even as it often baffled and sometimes irritated me: Why did the battle with the "ghosts" have to be shot in the dark? Its sometimes oblique narrative puzzled me: The first two characters we meet are the scholar-artist Gu (Shih Chun) and his mysterious customer, Ouyang Nian (Tien Peng), and I felt a bit lost when Ouyang turned out to be a bad guy and Gu's reticent neighbor Yang Hui-zhen (Hsu Feng) became the protagonist, as well as Gu's lover (after declining the marriage proposal Gu's mother insists on). But we're clearly working with a director-screenwriter who wants to keep us off-balance, and succeeds. Best, I realized, not to attempt to unravel the plot but to pay attention to the gorgeous and often exciting images that King Hu gives us -- the more than three-hour length of his epic flies by if you do that. The mixture of martial arts and religious philosophy is something the skeptic in me can only gaze at disinterestedly, so the ending, with the dying abbot bleeding gold, eludes any attempt I might make to find coherence with the political struggles that inform most of the film's action. But perhaps if I educate myself better in wuxia, I'll come to a fuller appreciation of why A Touch of Zen is so widely and enthusiastically admired.

A Touch of Zen (1971, Taiwan)
When Chinese director King Hu was writing the screenplay to his upcoming martial arts epic, he found himself disgusted with the mindless violence pervasive in the wuxia genre. Wuxia, for those unfamiliar with the term, is a genre of Chinese fiction involving martial arts during the times of Imperial China. Wuxia can also include elements of masculine chivalry, sometimes sorcery (though not in this film). King Hu’s A Touch of Zen is an unusual wuxia film – it is over three hours long, and no swords are drawn nor do fists fly until more than an hour has passed. Those facts about A Touch of Zen might alienate wuxia fans and frighten those who have never delved into Asian martial arts cinema. But what if I told you that A Touch of Zen is one of the greatest martial arts films of all time, with its first-hour nonviolent intrigue, enormous scope, heavily Buddhist themes, and among the most astonishing action choreography that movie audiences have ever witnessed?
For the first two hours, A Touch of Zen centers its plot on the oafish painter, Gu Sheng-tsai (Shih Chun). It is set sometime during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Gu lives with his mother (Zhang Bing-yu) – who hounds her son into taking the civil service exam and finding a wife to continue the family line – in the charred remains of an abandoned imperial fort. It plays like a domestic comedy, if only briefly. A behatted stranger, who will later be identified as Ouyang Nian (Tien Peng) and is introduced in shadow as if this was an American Western, comes to town one day to have his portrait painted by Gu, but his unspoken objective is to capture a woman named Yang Hui-zhen (Hsu Feng) – a fugitive of the law and adroit in combat. Unbeknownst to Gu, Yang has moved into the house across from his mother’s and the two will become friends – although Gu’s mother would like her son to seal the deal already. Also in hiding and allied with Yang are generals Shi and Lu (Bai Ying and Xue Han, respectively).
As motivations are gradually revealed and as the corrupted eunuch’s forces converge upon the town and the fortress, our protagonists flee to the countryside and, in the final hour, the narrative focus shifts from Gu to Yang and General Shi. We are also introduced to a number of characters – most notably, the eunuch’s commander Xu Xian-chun (Han Ying-jie; who also serves as the film’s martial arts choreographer) and Buddhist Abbot Hui-yuan (Roy Chiao).
The opening shot of A Touch of Zen sees a spider moving towards its entangled prey. Spiderwebs are typically a thoughtless hallmark of horror films, but here they appear – mostly in scenes at the abandoned fortress – on occasion to suggest entrapment, the proximity of bloodshed. This applies not just to the protagonists, but those pursuing them. Despite the spectacular wide shots that appear after Gu, Yang, and General Shi find themselves in the wilderness, many of the interior shots in the opening half of A Touch of Zen feel cramped – even moreso at night and during the moments when Gu, Yang, and their allies attempt to trick the enemy reconnaissance into believing that the abandoned fortress is haunted. Notice how quickly the predators can become prey. Such is the confusion that imminent violence might cause.
If the violence found in A Touch of Zen is a result of Yang’s familial duties and sense of honor clashing with the rigid laws governing the eunuch’s lands, it is something that several characters – including Yang herself – are considering an escape from. Here enters Abbot Hui, who first appears in the town’s market with his fellow monks, walking past Gu’s establishment without talking to anyone. Only after the stranger, Ouyang Nian, has confronted Gu for the first time does Abbot Hui break from his wandering stroll. Abbot Hui will not appear again until much later after a violent battle, to help clean and tend to the deceased. In general, the Buddhist monks only make appearances in the film when violence is imminent or has just completed – serving as a sort of punctuation for the film. Unbounded by the earthly desires and allegiances that dictate the actions of all the other characters, Abbot Hui extols nonviolence, showing quarter to even those who threaten exceptional violence.
Does nonviolence work against those who do not respond to soothing, reasonable words? Current sociopolitical thinking might reject these notions outright  In Buddhism – a religion dominated by principles, rather than rules – self-defense is, depending on who you ask, an ambiguous topic. But self-defense is largely believed to be permissible (excluding to-the-letter pacifists, but not to the extent of how certain Burmese Buddhist radicals have condoned violence against the Rohingya minority there), as long as it is not borne from hatred towards the attacker, but compassion for the defendant/s and the attacker. From the words of Vietnamese monk and peace activist Thích Nhất Hạnh, when asked about a hypothetical question in which he faced an attacker after a genocide in which he would be the last Buddhist on the planet:
It would be better to let him kill me. If there is any truth to Buddhism and the Dharma it will not disappear from the face of the earth, but will reappear when seekers of truth are ready to rediscover it. In killing I would be betraying and abandoning the very teachings I would be seeking to preserve. So it would be better to let him kill me and remain true to the spirit of the Dharma.
Though no such genocide appears in A Touch of Zen, Thích Nhất Hạnh’s illustration of Buddhism’s incompatibility towards much of the violence contained in A Touch of Zen. Separation from worldly matters and displaying trust and forgiveness for those who might wish one harm is key, and Abbot Hui abides by these principles. For many Westerners – especially those who have not studied or at least have a superficial understanding of Eastern religions – this might cause befuddlement and consternation in the closing third of the film when King Hu begins to feature the Buddhist monks more often. The final, open-ended scenes draw from Buddhist metaphysics and mysticism – capturing ascendance through selflessness.
Through the actions and words of Abbot Hui, we are better able to comprehend the suffering of Gu, to use one of a few possible examples. Unambitious and uninteresting though his life might have been prior to meeting Yang, Gu’s involvement with Yang and her allies sees him evolve from bumbling straggler to cold-blooded tactician when planning an ambush against the eunuch’s troops – as an aside, undesirable events occur any time after he sleeps with Yang. There, the idea of planning violence is shown as less mentally consequential than committing those acts. Committing violence – whether in self-defense, for “altruistic” purposes (is such a concept inherently contradictory?), or for other reasons – aligned with one’s compassion is a perilous predicament, as this behavior can all too easily transform into malevolence.
The protagonists depicted in A Touch of Zen are well-meaning, imperfect beings unable to release themselves from the shackles of chivalry, familial honor. That is what leads to their suffering from the hands of others, and from within.
For those without much experience in Asian martial arts films, let alone wuxia, A Touch of Zen starts roughly for its opening minutes. Cinematographer Hua hui-ying and editors King Hu (who had a history of performing many tasks other than directing in his movies) and Wing Chin-chen utilizing various swooping movements that do not appear to serve much purpose other than to make the motion-sensitive slightly queasy. After that inexplicable introduction, Hua, Hu, and Wing piece together an excellent collaborative effort. For cinematographer Hua – working with Eastmancolor and a glorious widescreen lens – his cameras are typically flat or glancing upward, utilizing swathes of open space to suggest danger, a higher consciousness/power, all to unsettle the viewer and keep our attention not just on the foreground. Shot partially at Taroko National Park in eastern Taiwan, there are nature shots in A Touch of Zen stupendous to behold; fans of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000, Taiwan) will be awed by the scenery, and perhaps wondering if A Touch of Zen inspired the later film in any way (it certainly did, but more shortly). Hua’s camera can also barely capture combatants when running or jumping from ground to rooftops – because wuxia, kung fu, and other Chinese martial arts logic is like that, so just accept it – at full speed. The editing by Hu and Wing, sometimes only including a shot for the shortest of split-seconds, forces the viewer to pay the fullest attention, in fear of missing on a crucial detail of geometry, body positioning, or location during a furious swordfight.
The action would have been less exhilarating if choreographer and actor Han Ying-jie did not work on this film. Two extended set pieces are standouts: the final battle at the abandoned fortress in the dark of night and a free-flying bamboo forest battle that would later be recalled and reworked in Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. For those who have never seen A Touch of Zen – it is recommended that you have seen some other wuxia, kung fu, and other assorted martial arts films before this one – this movie contains some of the most arresting action imagery and gobsmackingly tense battles one can ever experience in this genre. Han’s choreography has stamped his unquestionable legacy into modern martial arts films from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
A Touch of Zen became a sensation of world cinema when released – winning a technical prize at the Cannes Film Festival – but was half-forgotten until Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon came along at the turn of the century. Releases of the most recent restoration by the Masters of Cinema releases in the United Kingdom and the Criterion Collection in North America have allowed A Touch of Zen a global reach like never before.
Asian martial arts cinema – of the distant past, less distant past, and the present – has never been a specialty of mine (my father and many in my extended Vietnamese-American family have consumed much more). What separates A Touch of Zen from the dizzyingly large number of Asian martial arts films lies in something not often found in this genre. It has mastered matters elemental and physical, while commanding a dialogue with the spiritual.
My rating: 10/10
^ Based on my personal imdb rating. A Touch of Zen is the one hundred and forty-first film I have rated a ten on imdb.
