13th September 1813 saw the birth of Daniel MacMillan, who co-founded the MacMillan Publishing giants.
Born on the Isle of Arran to a crofting family., young Daniel was apprenticed to a bookseller in Irvine, Ayrshire, at the tender age of ten. Daniel moved to Glasgow where he taught in a school for several years, before joining a firm of booksellers in Glasgow and, in 1833 he moved to London, with little more than his canny Scottish instincts and a strong desire to succeed as a book publisher.
At first, the 20 year old Daniel worked in a bookstore, which was located near Cambridge University and which specialised in classical authors. MacMillan soon gained a reputation amongst University students as a well read, reliable guide to recent publications. Daniel next spent a brief period with a London bookseller, where he was joined by his younger brother, Alexander. a bookstore, which was located near Cambridge University that specialised in classical authors. MacMillan soon gained a reputation amongst University students as a well read, reliable guide to recent publications. Daniel next spent a brief period with a London bookseller, where he was joined by his younger brother, Alexander.
In 1843, the MacMillans opened their own shop, D. & A. Macmillan, at 57 Aldersgate St., in London, and published their first two books, which hardly set the world on fire, their first few years were hard and they flirted with bankruptcy, but stuck to their task and slowly turned things around. Their first big breakthrough came from their friend a backer Charles Kingsley who penned Westward Ho! which was published in 1853. Another success was ‘Tom Brown’s Schooldays’, by Thomas Hughes. Books such as these, laid the foundations for Macmillan’s strong fiction list.
MacMillan’s went on to have some of the most well known authors of the 19th century on its books, Lewis Carroll, Charles Tennyson, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling, Maynard Keynes to name but a few.
Together with Maurice and Archdeacon Hare, Daniel and Alexander became supporters of the reform movement known as ‘Christian Socialism’ and most of their early publications reflected the liberal sentiments of that group, such as its commitment to universal education and as a consequence, the firm became a leading publisher of textbooks and other educational material.
Daniel had suffered ill health from a young age and passed away aged 43 in Cambridge, where he is buried at The Mill Road cemetery.
The firm Macmillan Publishers was run by the family into the 70’s and survives, albeit in name only, with no family connections, to this day.

Some Yeomen of the Guard headcanons:
The Lieutenant was looking to hire a jester because everyone kept telling him he's got no sense of humour, and he decided he needs to improve that.(Ironically he's one of the few people who would've found Wilfred's jokes funny)
Phoebe is very adventurous: she grew up hearing all kinds of tales of derring-do from her father and the other veterans (who all doted on her). She has dreamed in participating in one since she was a child, and not as a damsel in distress either. Which is another reason she immediately seizes the opportunity to rescue Fairfax
She talks Leonard into teaching her some fencing afterwards, and immediately uses her new knowledge to put the fear of god into Wilfred.
Jack can't swim. Elsie had to rescue him from drowning more than once. (It doesn't help that Jack's at his wittiest when insulting people; he gets thrown into rivers a lot because of this)
Leonard really didn't like how Fairfax treated Elsie at the wedding. He almost came rescue her when she called for "Leonard, my own" out of sheer habit. Phoebe had to hold him back.
Elsie is more in love with the idea of Fairfax than with the man himself. Coincidentally, said idea closely resembles the real Leonard.
Phoebe has a somewhat dark sense of humour, possibly as a result of all the executions she saw growing up.
Money notwithstanding, Jack Point wasn't happy about the whole "marrying off Elsie " deal at all. But old Bridget Maynard was really sick, and he was well aware they weren't making nearly enough to help her in time. So he put on a brave front for Elsie's sake and encouraged her to take up on the opportunity, accidentally alienating her in the process.
He's pretty much useless in a fight, but usually makes up for it by being extremely good at running away and dodging hits.
Fairfax and his cousin look very alike and have similar personalities, a fact that has contributed a lot to their rivalry.
Poltwhistle and Fairfax have been trying to kill each other for years, to the point that both of them see it almost as a sport. There may have been other, less lucky murder-y cousins in the past as well.
Jack stole the Hugh Ambrose book from the archbishop's library, originally in an attempt to find out what his employer finds funny, but after he got whipped and thrown out he decided not to return it. The jokes are all terrible. He used to entertain Elsie by reading them aloud and commenting on them.
Even the yeomen find Dame Carruthers' enthusiasm for all things Tower (especially the bloody parts) deeply unnerving. Wilfred and Kate are about the only people who don't try to quietly escape when she starts monologuing.
Kate thinks her aunt is very cool, actually.

Boxing has had countless multi-fight rivalries over the years that have defined the legacies of great fighters throughout the years - Ali-Frazier, Morales-Barrera, Morales-Pacquiao, Pacquiao-Marquez, Chocolatito-Estrada, Gatti-Ward, Duran-Leonard, Holyfield-Bowe, Patterson-Johansson, Ali-Norton, Saddler-Pep, Marquez-Vazquez, Cotto-Margarito, and so on and so on.
This is something that hasn’t really taken shape in MMA. There have been some great, competitive rivalries - Edgar-Maynard, Nog-Fedor, Velasquez-JDS, Rampage-Wanderlei, Straus-Pitbull, Pitbull-Curran, Melendez-Thompson, GSP-Hughes, Stout-Fisher, Aoki-Hansen, Volk-Holloway etc. But even then, the meat grinder nature of the sport takes away from the allure of these fights. Often times the ends of these series feel like formalities. One guy has obviously lost a step. Or worse, one guy seems to have the other’s number and we never get that truly competitive series.
That’s why to my eye, Brandon Moreno vs Deiveson Figueiredo is the best rivalry the sport has seen. These are two guys who at their core were just made to fight one another. Every fight has been a delight, with their third fight being their most competitive. There’s so many twists and turns, so many adjustments from round to round and fight to fight. And these two bring so much chaos into the cage. It’s amazing to see take shape. None of their 3 fights to date look the same. Amazing.

One week after Megan Thee Stallion issued a public plea for people to "stop using [her] shooting for clout," the Southern Black Girls & Women's Consortium shared an open letter of support for the rapper denouncing violence against women and praising her bravery.
Megan, 27, was allegedly shot in the foot by singer Tory Lanez, 30, in July 2020, and he was charged that October with two felony counts. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
In the years since, she has been forced to face critics who support Lanez, and in June, said she felt as though she had become "the villain" in the situation.
In the Consortium's letter, which was shared on Thursday, more than two dozen signees including #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson, Congresswomen Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee, activist Tamika Mallory and Angela Rye joined forces to offer their vocal support of the star, who partnered with the Consortium on the inaugural Joy Is Our Journey tour in August.
The letter is addressed to the "Plan B" rapper, and begins by praising her meteoric rise to fame and continued success, which make her an "inspiration" to "women all over the world."
"You're a special kind of talent and a special kind of person; the place you hold in your fans' hearts is a testament to that," the letter says. "As you've risen to the top, you've also had to endure a lot of obstacles along the way. In the face of triumph and tragedy alike, you always keep your head held high, maintain your poise and push forward."
Still, it goes on to acknowledge that the Grammy-winning star has "been treated in ways that no young woman—no person at all—should be treated. It must be said that our culture has failed you, one of its most brightly shining daughters."
Though Megan has repeatedly labeled Lanez an "abuser," she's had to endure many people in the industry supporting him. Earlier this month, Drake appeared to accuse her of making up the shooting in the lyrics to his song "Circo Loco."
"And when the mf facts come out remember y'all hoe ass favorite rappers that stood behind a N— that SHOT A FEMALE," Megan replied on Twitter. "People attack me y'all go up for it , i defend myself now I'm doing too much … every time it never ends and this did NOT happen until I came out and said I got shot … y'all don't [f— with me] okay cool f— it bye."
The letter calls out the "public harassment and taunting" Megan received from Lanez and his supporters, and says she's "consistently been clear about what happened" to her, but has not received the support she should.
Megan Thee Stallion Responds After Drake Seems to Accuse Her of Lying About Tory Lanez Shooting
"You don't deserve any of this, Megan," it reads. "You deserve to be heard, to be believed, and most importantly, to be safe."
The letter continues with a more general plea to continue supporting and believing victims of domestic violence, particularly Black women, who the letter says are often "fearful of what will happen to their assailant if they choose to involve the law… and are left unprotected by the system and the community alike."
Megan has said that she was shot by Lanez, whom she considered a friend, after an argument broke out between her, her friend and Lanez as they drove home from a poolside get-together at Kylie Jenner's house.
An LAPD detective testified at a preliminary hearing in December that Lanez shouted "Dance, bitch!" before shooting.
The "Luv" singer was charged in October 2020 with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to both charges in November 2020.
Lanez was ordered to house arrest and electronic monitoring in October, and will reportedly stay monitored through the scheduled start of his trial on Nov. 28.
Read the Consortium's letter in full below.
Dear Megan,
You are larger than life in many ways; your name is in lights, your face on billboards, your songs in the history books…and this is still just the beginning of your story. In a very short amount of time, you've achieved success probably beyond your wildest dreams, and it seems that each day brings a new announcement about something amazing you've done or are preparing to do. Women all over the world consider you an inspiration, in part because you make them feel good about themselves. You're a special kind of talent and a special kind of person; the place you hold in your fans' hearts is a testament to that.
As you've risen to the top, you've also had to endure a lot of obstacles along the way. In the face of triumph and tragedy alike, you always keep your head held high, maintain your poise, and push forward. However, while so many of us celebrate you for your strength and perseverance, it must be said that you have been treated in ways that no young woman–no person at all–should be treated.
It must be said that our culture has failed you, one of its most brightly shining daughters. In July of 2020, you experienced a violation of the highest order at the hands of someone whom you considered a friend. Since then, you've had to endure public harassment and taunting not only from that person but from others choosing to stand with him. Bloggers have circulated rumors and excitedly reported on the most traumatic experience of your life as if it were juicy gossip, often perpetuating the idea that you've got a reason to lie, that you shouldn't be believed. You've consistently been clear about what happened to you, but instead of being met with widespread support, people who should have had your back have chosen to stay out of the matter.
You don't deserve any of this, Megan. You deserve to be heard, to be believed, and most importantly, to be safe.
There is no amount of power or prestige that can prevent a woman from becoming a victim of violence and there is no level of achievement that exempts women from our society's complacency with that violence.
You may be a boss, the "hot girl coach," and a bonafide superstar, but that doesn't mean that you don't experience pain. No one is too 'bad,' too famous, too powerful to feel hurt. You've had to navigate this deeply difficult experience in the public eye, and while you've managed to stand strong and to keep showing up to work in spite of it all, it can't be understated how unfair it is that you're in this position to begin with.
Violence against women is still entirely too common and acceptable in our world. We make excuse after excuse to explain away even the most heinous acts, especially when the person accused is a celebrity of any sort. Being a celebrity, however, will not guarantee a woman any sympathy when she is a victim.
Black women are also often fearful of what will happen to their assailant if they choose to involve the law–as you yourself were afraid to do–and are left unprotected by the system and the community alike. If someone as influential as you can be belittled and mocked as nothing but a liar for standing up for herself, that speaks a volume about what a woman who doesn't have your resources or fame can expect to endure when she's found herself in a similar position.
An estimated one in three women worldwide has been the victim of sexual and/or domestic violence. Here in the United States, the numbers are higher for Black women, who also experience psychological abuse–such as humiliation, name-calling, and insults–at an increased rate. Women of all races, cis and trans, are suffering daily and we're all too complacent. From day one, you deserved a chorus of voices saying, "We believe you, Megan," and though you may not have been able to hear us sooner, know that we are with you now and every step of the way as you continue to heal from this tragedy. We are committed to making the world safer for you and all women, and one of the important steps that we must take to get there is to make it so that women who have been victims of violence can speak about their experiences without being attacked or dismissed.
You've been so strong, Megan, but that's not what we should demand nor expect from you. You deserve the space to cry, mourn and heal as you see fit without having to worry about being judged for having a human reaction to a personal tragedy.
Even in the midst of your own traumatic experience and healing, you recognized that other girls needed to experience joy and partnered with Southern Black Girls and Women's Consortium on the inaugural Joy Is Our Journey tour impacting thousands of girls across the south. You have remained committed to the focus of mental health and well being in our community even when your own has been minimized, marginalized, and deemphasized. We want you to know that you are important and you matter to us and to millions of women around the globe. Your life matters. Your work matters. Your joy matters. You deserve joy. We stand with you.
We salute you for the bravery it has taken to defend yourself in the court of public opinion, though you shouldn't have had to do so at all. We raise our voices against those who have made light of this heinous example of violence against women and will drown them out with our demands for society to take what happens to Black women seriously. You are not alone. You are believed, loved, and supported.
We stand with you Megan.

Come Adventure With Me
Lyrics and music Marc Gunn
There's a secret door to a hall unknown Inside are fears that Turn me to stone Do I step forward Or head back home Which is the path for me I raise my head and Take one step more The ground it shakes. I look back to the door Feel like I’m caught and stuck to the floor And so I cut myself free
* This world’s a treasure that is full of strife Every moment can enrich your life Just face your dragons with the edge of a knife It’s a better life you see Come adventure with me.
There are ugly goblins doing scary things Deep down in dungeons there are magic rings Live or die with the riddles we bring You’ll find your way through the dark My Precious life Has so many memories Fluttering birds, butterflies in trees My home is comfort, comfort is a breeze But there’s another way to live
So many wars. It’s an endless fight To slay our dragons that soar through our night But I’m no coward. I’ll do what is right. Before I make my way home. Now I’m back with stories that ring A truth That soars up on eagle wings Let’s not forget the songs elves sing Oh the joy that they bring!

13th September 1813 saw the birth of Danial MacMillan, who co-founded the MacMillan Publishing giants.
In January 1824, Daniel, with his brother’s help, secured a place for himself as an apprentice to Maxwell Dick, a bookseller and bookbinder in Irvine. His contract specified that Daniel would work for Mr. Dick for six years, though his time there continued slightly beyond. He flourished in the job and Maxwell Dick wrote that “the said Daniel has served me with diligence, honesty and sobriety and it is with the utmost confidence I can recommend him as possessing these qualities in a very high degree.”
Daniel had big ambitions, he travelled south and in 1933 travelled south, at first, the 20 year old Daniel worked in a bookstore, which was located near Cambridge University and which specialised in classical authors. Daniel soon gained a reputation amongst University students as a well read, reliable guide to recent publications.
MacMillan next spent a brief period with a London bookseller, where he was joined by his younger brother, Alexander.
Books such as these, laid the foundations for Macmillan’s strong fiction list.MacMillan’s went on to have some of the most well known authors of the 19th century on its books, Lewis Carroll, Charles Tennyson, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling, Maynard Keynes to name but a few.Together with Maurice and Archdeacon  Hare.
Daniel and Alexander became supporters of the reform movement known as ‘Christian Socialism’ and most of their early publications reflected the liberal sentiments of that group, such as its commitment to universal education and as a consequence, the firm became a leading publisher of textbooks and other educational material.Daniel had suffered ill health from a young age and passed away aged 43 in Cambridge, where he is buried at The Mill Road cemetery.
Their publishing talents were not confined to pure literature; the Macmillan family´s vision inspired the creation of enduring copyrights such as Nature, widely considered the world’s leading scientific journal, launched in 1869, Palgrave´s Dictionary of Political Economy in 1899 and Nursing Times in 1905.  Until recently the publishing company was owned by the Macmillan family, who continued to manage the company into the 1970s.One of the involved family members was Harold Macmillan, the British Prime Minister from 1956 to 1963 who rose through the Churchill and Eden governments via a succession of high offices, and culminated with his becoming Prime Minister, keeping one of the fullest and most entertaining political diaries of the twentieth century. Its prominence in trade publishing continues to this day, but it also has great strengths in the educational and scholarly fields. Macmillan Education and its associate companies and subsidiaries in Africa, Asia, He was chairman of the company from 1964 until his death in December 1986
The and survives, by name only, with no family connections, they are wholly owned subsidiary of Holtzbrinck Publishing Group with offices in 41 countries worldwide and operations in more than 30 others.

"THREE DISPUTES IN COURT OVER MONEY," Toronto Star. January 8, 1913. Page 2. ---- Charges of Fraud Were Heard by Magistrate Denison This Morning. ---- CASES IN COURT TO-DAY ---- Jury to Hear Prosecution of Man Accused of Changing Street Plans. --- Before Magistrate Denison to-day, Harvey Barnes, of Elmvale, recently from Winnipeg, denied obtaining $5 from Charles Wells of 68 Garnet avenue by fraud. The complaint is that Barnes got the above amount by representing that he had a piano in storage which could be given as guarantee, but that there was no piano.
Without hearing evidence, Barnes was remanded a week.
After Henry D. Smith, alias George E. Gray, of 195 York street, recently of Duncan's Island, serves sixty days on three fraud convictions, he will be deported.
The people who suffered by cashing Smith's checks were: James H. Maynard, grocer, Queen east. $8; Mrs. C. Eakins, grocer, Sumach street, $2; and Mrs. Catherine Mills, the man's landlady on Grant street, $8
Dispute Over Money. "You've borrowed money from me, lots of tines, and now you charge me with theft," David Goodman, defendant, was indignant with Charles Paully, complainant to the amount of $15.
"He collected money for me in Huntsville," Paully explained. "It's not true that I borrowed of him."
"You did, and didn't pay back." Goodman retorted. "and I don't deny collecting the money. It was a personal affair."
Goodman, by election, goes to a jury.
Street Plan Changed. After several remands, Walter S. Brooker, real estate agent, was committed for trial charged with using a forged plan. Street plans of a North Toronto subdivision were drawn up by Russell Grant, surveyor, in 1911, and submitted to the Council under his signature.
"Later, when I saw the plan in a real estate office," Grant said this morning. "some streets had been changed, and others added."
The subdivision, it was claimed, was refused by the North Toronto Council in 1911, as containing too few streets, but was afterwards recorded in the East and West York Registry Office in its altered form.
"The changing of a plan over another man's signature comprises a forgery, Hughes," stated Crown Attorney
The fraud charge against Morris Ruben has been commercialized. The complainant. Wolf Verner, informed the court that though the horse he bought for $35 was still living, the deal had been reversed, and he was content. So was the magistrate.
Joseph McDermott, before Magistrate Denison, didn't mind admitting the theft of a bicycle, but told the police to go take the amusement of finding an owner for themselves. McDermott was caught pawning the wheel, so remains in custody a week.

Felonies, as always, are grounds for American citizenship, especially if approached in opposition to the British Commonwealth (American Lodge status, fraction Native American blood declared) or through CIA patronage (drugs and arms cartels, to support civil wars).
Father's Side:
Lan del Ray: Usurpation of the Crown (false felony, actually the crown; dissention orders, Government of Transvaal, fleeing and hiding in absentia).
Blackbeard: Falsification of notation, in the face of Leviathan (megalodon, two killed).
Ernest Charlebois: Defection from Canada Department, for "Luciano Crime Syndicate" (Attleboro Carpet, "Attleboro Mob", common usurpation of the crown).
Jake Charlebois: War crimes, depicted self as Hitler, Minnesota State University, professional collegiate football draft.
David Charlebois: Approach of Jews, as if scaling point (print of Gotham, ULTRA test protocols, war with government of France, citizenship claimed by reasons of being homosexual, Nicholas Maynard testifying; cleared by Syrian bombings, of French city states).
Mother's Side:
Hugh O'Neill: Theft of Papal Bible (Spanish Campaigns, prior to Irish Confederate Wars).
Elzardaro O'Neill: Refusal to let passengers dock (defeat of Sir Francis Drake).
Edward Ashbury O'Neal: Draft deference to the greater South, refusal to serve honorably in cause of slavery under Confederate doctrine of "Hezbellum" (stolen child), formation of Firefly crime syndicate (Union North, convicted of anti-Semitism, murders of police and landed gentry in favor of "negro slavery").
William H. Tracy: Defrauding INTERPOL French crime syndicate for wines of children's labors, underage molestation on radio and television slavery, 'street teams' (print of "The Brow", Ace Comics), cowardice through Marine "Exo-Corps", mercenary soldiers, Korean Conflict, Jyngman Rhee (court martial by hanging, 32 doctors and corpsman, white Gentiles, and 3 Marine journalists, "Bigsy Roll Comics", murdered, by friendly fire).
Marie Paradis: 33 murders, 47 suspected in increase (Pardoned, War Department, signature Vice President Harry S. Truman, research for Combat! Magazine, French Resistance).
Alice Claire O'Neill {Charlebois}: Murders of Mossad, "Irish Kings", frame of Mossad agent James "Whitey" Bulger (multiple homicides, carried out in name of "Nixon's Secret Unit", draft reform, Johnny Tremain; Jordanian intelligence).
David Michael Charlebois: CIA contract on the House of Tudor, Amish farm slavery of worldwide naval veterans, and affiliates, in Britain, Russia, Israel, and Canada; conscription forces, illegal under 1776 review by George Washington; Chas T. Main service, frauded election, to defend state against encroachment by Israeli expenditures; refusal of Britain and Saudi Arabia, "Costigan" character in "The Departed"; cops given Lee Harvey Oswald's medicine, Chas T. Main, instead of medication approved by cops with nursing training, "mendicants"; British comics and film fans, improperly trained under allegation by World's Policeman Association, opposing ruling by Fraternal Order of the Police, for Arizona confine, forced homosexuality for using schools and libraries, standard for Boston, New England, and New York.
