D.P. (Season 2)
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
D.P. (Season 2, 2023, South Korea)
Director: Han Jun Hee
Writers: Kim Bo Tong & Han Jun Hee
Mini-review:
The moment has finally come: Netflix's best Korean Original has made its return with a second season. And these two years of waiting have been more than worth it. It seemed impossible but, somehow, this new season is even better than the first one. It preserves all of its many strengths, and then it takes them to the next level. Both the directing and the writing are amazingly intense. I spent six whole hours on the edge of my seat, biting my nails to the quick, and the last two episodes left me breathless. I also loved the show's attempts at experimenting, like the musicality in episode 3 or the horror undertones in episode 4. As for the acting, is there anything left to say? This is a cast full of incredible actors, and all of them give career-best performances. This time round, Jung Hae In and Son Suk Ku are probably the MVPs, but everyone does a flawless job. To sum up, this second season blew away my sky-high expectations, and I really hope we get a third one, cause TV shows don't get better than this.
P.S. There's a lot of triggering content here, so please be careful with that. Those of you who watched the first season already know this, but I'm saying it just in case.

Top 5 worst BL scenes
So basically, scenes that made me want to fight? Ok cool, let's go.
Jun Ho actually dying at the end of the series (spoiler alert) Jun Ho absolutely refused to k-word Min Hyun and there was no miraculous way to save him. He spent a beautiful night with Min Hyun and literally evaporated in his arms the next day. What made it worse was Jun Ho was trying to give Min Hyun a ring as a keepsake but his senses were vastly deteriorating so he dropped it and it rolled under the couch and he couldn't see to find it so Min Hyun never got it and to this day it remains under the couch. I just hate that it ended so tragic though I was lowkey expecting it. (Kissable Lips)
Tumblr media
While I'm talking about unnecessary demises, let's talk about Yu Xi Gu. Why? For why? What was the purpose? And what annoys me more is that Wayne and Chunchih are still acting together and making cameos and showing up behind the scenes of the other History installments but we can't get them in another series together? A sequel that will somehow negate what happened to Xi Gu at the end of MODC? SOMETHING?? (History 3: MODC)
Tumblr media
Zhou Shu Yi finding out that his father had something to do with Gao Shi De ghosting him. I didn't like Shu Yi's dad, no matter how hard they tried to paint him like a clown. He had absolutely no right interfering and telling Shi De he wasn't established enough for his son ESPECIALLY when he preached about working himself from the ground up. He was a hypocrite and Shi De is a moron. I was very proud of Shu Yi for kicking them both out of his house but I HATE that Otou-san tried to downplay Shu Yi's feelings of hurt and betrayal. Fuck that dude. (We Best Love: Fighting Mr. 2nd)
Tumblr media
Wai outing PatPran to the entire student body. I don't like Wai, he was a terrible friend. They can try to redeem him all they fucking want. He really sat there with those evil eyebrows and exposed his "best friend" to entire school because he was feeling spiteful and petty. AND WHAT PISSED ME OFF MORE WAS PRAN FOLLOWING HIM AROUND STILL TRYING TO APOLOGIZE TO HIM AFTER. ALSO DID WAI EVER APOLOGIZE FOR OUTING HIM? I won't even speak about his big mouth almost getting him k-worded and Pat shot. SN: Does Jimmy favor Zee Pruk to anyone else but me?? (Bad Buddy)
Tumblr media
Oh-Aew cheating on Teh. Why? That was the fastest way to ruin the sequel to such a perfect series. Such an unnecessary plot point when the series could've focused on Teh and Oh adjusting to college life, career choices, and balancing their relationship. They had so much to go on and still chose to throw cheating in there. (I Promised You The Moon)

SPOILER 🚨 ALERT
So, I watched the last two episodes of ONCE AGAIN, tonight and although I saw one person write on Reddit that the series wasn’t very good (I didn’t read the whole thing, because I didn’t want to read any spoilers and I disagreed with the person who was knocking the series), I thought the series, over all, was good in many ways. Korean BL series are only 8 episodes, but in most cases the writers, directors, production, bring it all together in a short span of time. As with so many other Korean BL’s, this one had a great idea, it was very well-written, excellently directed, with wonderful production value. The series was lovely, touching, heartfelt, with just the right amount of tension and suspense. It had a beautiful love story, which is what one hopes for. NOW FOR THE SPOILERS!!! TURN BACK NOW, if you don’t want to read them.
I was somewhat disappointed in the way it played out in the end. I realize the writers were going for a love interest, who was willing to, knowingly, sacrifice himself for the one he loved, but, frankly, there was no reason Ji hoon couldn’t have prepared better for his meeting with the killer! I was really hoping he would have taped some magazines under his shirt, to stop the knife, or that adult Jae woo would’ve taken the knife this time, which would’ve left his younger self to survive and grow up, as well as saving Ji hoon. I, also didn’t understand the very end, at all—with “another Jae woo” in 2007? What???
Anyhoo, I still loved how wonderfully done the series was, up until the end, and I still appreciated it. The actors were excellent, good-looking, talented.
I really DO wish they would either add more episodes to their BL series or make the episodes longer.
Keep up the excellent work!

nice touch with the filter. Jae Woo living in a greyish blue world but as soon as he steps into the past and meets Ji Hoon again, it’s natural kdrama filter.

NSFW! SUB!TXT WEARING SKIRTS Genre: Smuff (Smut + Fluff hehe) A/N: Afab!reader | a quickie reaction hehe ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Warnings: mommy kink to ease my stupid ass, crossdressing, mentions of pegging/thigh riding/fingering, pet names (I'll color code them cuz why not)
. . .
— Yeonjun A confident baby! He's pretty wearing it and he knows it. "Am I pretty, mommy?? Tell Junnie he's pretty, mommy" he'd twirl to show you how beautiful he looks "Yes baby, you do look pretty" he just loves to dress up for you and only for you,, he's ready to wear anything you want him to wear just to make you happy. And omg pls let him wear a skirt while he rides your thigh- it'll be the most beautiful thing you've ever seen.
— Soobin The literal opposite of yeonjun; he's so shy and you love how he looks so flustered half of the time. Just like jun, he just wants to look good and dress up for his mommy but the only difference is he's not as confident as his hyung so he feels vulnerable and needs assurance half of the time. "Such a pretty bunny for mommy, Bin" then coaxing his fluffy hair before clipping some bunny ears on him,, he'd be a blushing mess.
— Beomgyu Ok hear me out, hear me out !! Gyu would be so cocky and proud at first but once you use your intimidating mental game,, he'd lose that cocky facade and would ultimately give you control over him. He'd go from "I look scrumptious don't I, Y/n?" to "Can your puppy cum now, mommy? I promise I'll be your good boy from now on. Mrtgiojtrgijrttbr my ideal fit for him is a cute short plaid pink skirt with some thigh highs (and also wolf cut gyu? wearing this) before pegging your not-so-good-boy.
— Taehyun "Hyun, can you like dress up for mommy?" you said as you draw circles in his chest "noo" taehyun whines "pleaasee? I'd let you taste me if you do" that is basically how your conversation goes whenever you want him to dress up prettily for you because honestly, he doesn't really care what he looks while you fuck him all he cares is about how he makes you feel good and that is enough. But him dressing up for you is rarer than an occurrence of a blue moon so this one time is very special to you seeing him wearing it for you. "Do I look ok now...?" yes you do baby, yes you do. He'd look even better while you finger his tight hole.
— Huening Kai Hyuka honestly radiates major golden retriever energy and it shows; he's basically a ray of sunshine so when he heard that you want him to wear a skirt, he'd beam the shiniest smile in the world and his cheeks would be redder than the sun. "Look at me mama, it's the one you bought me, doesn't it look pretty?" "Of course angel, you look like mommy's bestest prince" tbh out of all the members, I think he's the most confident one to wear anything for you, such a good boy.

Happy Ending for these two, after the drama drank gallons of my blood.
Tumblr media
I am so relieved, I don't even care about the fact that he's got amnesia TWICE (I wonder if initial bout was due to extension) or the fact that surely the survivors of the army sent to take him down would have given away to someone in authority that Yeon Jun basically let him get away (or that Gil Chae seems to have forgotten about her mad father and little brother utterly.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This writer does have a (welcome to me) tendency to go for happy endings that may not be realistic but feel welcome in fictional contexts. Rebel was a marvel of a drama but its very happy ending felt incredibly unrealistic - the horrifying ending of Hong Sisters' Hong Gil Dong felt a lot more likely for that type of story. And the same is true here - a tragic ending would have been a lot more likely. But being spared this feels wonderful. (And now we know what those voiceovers are about - it's her telling him about their past, so at to help fill memory gaps.)
Tumblr media
Ultimately, this drama had its flaws unlike e.g., Chuno, which for me was flawless, but most of it was amazing, amazing, amazing.
Tumblr media
A couple of non-ship things I loved: the resolution of Yeon Jun's story. I know most people didn't like his character and I can't say I'd want him as a friend or a family member, but it was a fascinating arc for someone who was a lot more in line with a "proper" aristocrat of his time, and honestly his story would have made a fascinating 19th century psychological novel. He has finally learned to see grey and go against the norms and it almost drove him to kill himself and - it was a very interesting character and story to me. But oh boy, did Gil Chae dodge a bullet in switching her affections back way when!
Tumblr media
The story with Jang Hyun's father was exactly as expected and yet I was still taken aback by the petty horror of it all. The old man killed his whole family (or so he thought) for illusory fame and when given a chance to redo, chose to do the same thing again. Realistic. And none of it even made him happy - hence the suicide - but illusions of what he is to the rest must be maintained. JH's face as he said he now knows the most precious thing to the old man wasn't him.
Tumblr media
You know what made me cackle in demented glee? Injo's end. Calling for the son he ruined, whose death he caused, whose loved ones he exterminated (his wife, his sons, the people the prince cared for.) Interesting parallel with the Crown Princess' death btw - when she calls for So Hyun, she sees him come for her and there is light and peace. Injo's calls are unanswered and there is no light just darkness. The tragedy is that he actually loved his son as much as a monster like him could. It just wasn't any salvation to anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as Jang Hyun's father, he chose terror and "reputation" over his own child and their punishment is to die in despair, alone.
In conclusion, this was an amazing drama, with amazing performances, and only narrowly misses being my favorite kdrama of 2023 (and if either GK War or Moon in the Day implode, might still win.)
ETA: loved that they didn't end back in her hometown, because they didn't need to. They are each other's hometown, are they not?
