Moonwatcher - she/they (nonbinary)

I feel like this is fun bc rn (in canon) her gender is just "anxiety" but like,,, one day in the future she gets to actually play around with it

like she captures a very specific type of person I've met who you go "oh I mean I know she's gay but she's probably cis..." and then you have like one real convo and find out they're like not only nonbinary but better at it then you

Kinkajou strikes me as being like. totally ambivalent to gender. Kinkajou changes her pronouns based on how the fruit he ate for breakfast makes him feel. Kinkajou is better than you

I think she was like staunchly using she/her for a while bc it just felt right and like changes pronouns situationally- Rainwing village is she/her, Jade Academy is any/all, close friends it varies, etc etc

Qibli- he/they (transmasc)

Qibli's just always kind of known who he is, and has been like. pretty contentedly in his corner for a while. I think it's like- a pillar of stability for him of like "at least I know I'm (x)"

Proximity to Moonwatcher puts the they/them in there bc I think it's nice when ppl get more comfortable so they start branching out a lil bit :> Qibli has like. guy who says "he/they" because he doesn't mind they/them and wants his friends to feel supported y'know

Winter- he/him (cis + gnc)

Look I feel bad making him one of like. two cis ppl at JMA but like I think it's funny if he's cis but inflicts a status effect of gender envy on every trans person in his proximity

guy who does makeup flawlessly because "it's fun" and decimates your sense of identity as you wonder why the fuck god gave these gifts to a man

extra funny for the fact that as a dragonet he gets offended by the implication he's pretty. he gets over it eventually I think

Turtle- she/her or he/she/they (transwoman/trans)

i hate how icicle was just thrown away after winter turning. literally there was SO, SO MUCH POTENTIAL for more stories based on her. like what is the outcome of her trial??? what is her reaction to seeing winter again??? what is her reaction to seeing HAILSTORM again?!?! (reminder that as far as we know she doesnt know hailstorm is back btw!!! after she literally attempted murder to get him back!!!)

dude, there couldve been a whole winglet on winter (and maybe hailstorm) breaking icicle out of prison because ik winterr would NOT let his sister rot in that cell. and the siblings couldve reunited after all being separated for so. so long and ugshh my heart.

one of the things i was looking forwards to in the dangerous gift was that i was hoping we'd find out more on the whole icicle situation !!! maybe even see her and stuff but maybe that was a bit too hopeful

but no. instead we just got like. one mention of her trial. and it doesnt even talk abt what the verdict is because apparentlyy the trial hasn't even happened yet even tho it's been like what. a month or two now since she got arrested??? r u telling me shes just been in prison by herself for maybe two months. with the possibility that she doesnt even know if the person she did all this for is alive or not. wtf tuiii.

dude even her being abandoned in prison has writing potential like how did her imprisonment affect her mentally?? what did she think abt in there??? how has this affected her relationship with winter and hailstorm???? is she still even fucking sane LMAOao?!?!?

shes also such a significant character!!! one of the first dominoes in the chain of events that leads to darkstalker being freed. and her character is just tossed away once shes served her purpose in the plot because tui refuses to add depth to her villainss /hj. an icicle character arc wouldve been so interesting. :((

Bay of Emeralds Academy AU has dragon Kurt, who I'm going to say is a SilkWing/RainWing hybrid, named Karner, who's a deep blue with yellow and light blue mixed in (he is the SilkWing of the Pearl Winglet). Kitty I can see being a RainWing, who is named Kiwi, who's usually baby pink and lilac purple (and is the RainWingof the Pearl Winglet). Those two are rather fun, being loud and outgoing, and form a friend group with their winglet, the Pearl Winglet (consisting of the X-Men dragonets).

There is dragon Jean, who is a SkyWing named Junco, with auburn scales (she is the SkyWing of the Pearl Winglet). She shares a cave with Roguemind, NightWing Rogue, who has dark green and black scales, and can read the thoughts of those around her when she touches them (she is the NightWing of the Pearl Winglet). These two seem to get along for the most part, understanding each other and how hard it is to appear put together in front of others.

Dragon Scott is a MudWing named Cypress, who has almost clay-red scales and brown undertones (and is the MudWing of the Pearl Winglet). He shares a room with Redwood, LeafWing Gambit, who has brown scales with pink-red membranes (he is the LeafWing of the Pearl Winglet). These two tend to keep the other balanced, and their love interests share a room together, too.

There is IceWing Evan, who's name is Ermine, and he has pale yellow-white scales, almost like bone (and is the IceWing of the Pearl Winglet). Dragon Bobby is a SeaWing/IceWing named Bubble, who has pale blue scales and sharpens spines and claws than most SeaWings (he is the Pearl Winglet SeaWing). These two do pranks together, tending to get along, and tend to end up in trouble. Dragon Jubilee is a SandWing named Jerboa, who has golden scales (and is the SandWing of the Pearl Winglet) (I'm imagining her Animated Series personality, and a mix of X-Men Evolution). She shares a room with Ermine and Bubble, and they make a trio of trouble makers (who do harmless pranks. Most of the time).

And Reader is their newest addition! A HiveWing who has a few traumas, and hopes to make their first real friends, Reader wants to get along with these strange, boisterous dragonets, and earn good grades. They like painting, making jewelry, and writing stories, but don't mind wrestling with others (as long as no one bites them, otherwise it becomes personal).

Reader is in for a surprise with their new clawmates, who like this strange new dragon! This is someone who is sincere, yet they seem so sad and lonely at times... But never fear! They're all there to be their new friends, maybe they'll even be family? And they have the rest of the school to back them up!

- piebald flame wings of fire . it would be so awesome it would be so cool - right handed BUT he would go out of his way to convince everyone else that he was ambidextrous . “noo ochre listen to me i can use my left hand i just dont want to . shut up ochre nobody asked” - transmasc and gay . im not wrong fellas - fatespeaker introduced him to coffee . he tells everyone he hates it but he doesnt - his mom is his best friend . he writes her letters from the hospital he works at - viper gaslit him into thinking that his eyes are slightly different colors . “oh my god pike shut up im serious my eyes are different colors LOOK CLOSER goddamn it” - speaking of pike they r 100% frenemies ,, they argue every night and then they play board games together - speaking of pike AGAIN because i love pike . flame was 100% an older brother figure to him - he probably envied carnelian for her confidence - when he and viper were dragonets they prolly had those dumb matching bff necklaces and then one time he gets pissed off at her and he throws it into the ocean (he cries afterward) - im 100% sure that he was TERRIFIED of onyx . imagine you go to school and then in your winglet theres this grown ass adult - pyrophobic after that one time the nightwings burned down the skywing guard post ,, - scared of being read because then people will think he is weak or sum . idk hes just like me ong - he and viper picked on squid ALL THE TIME . “hey squid truth or dare . i dare you to eat that pile of cow shit over there or we’ll tell nautilus that youre a pussy” - prolly hung out with tamarin a couple times . shes his therapist friend - DEATHLY allergic to red tide . the one time the talons of peace were camping by the ocean he was sneezing the whole time “flame go away youre sick we dont want you here” “SHUT UP OCHRE im not sick its my ALLERGIES” - 100% doesnt know how to handle emotions so he bottles ts up and takes it out on random ass people (usually fatespeaker) - he loves trinkets . when he was younger he’d probably scavenge for whatever he could find and then give it to his mom like those cats who bring you dead animals - cries a lot probably - shiftywing said that flame would wear an eyepatch this one time and i could not agree more - introduced pike to hot topic . “flame are you SURE i can wear a spiked collar in public . queen coral would pull out my teeth” “good i hope she does” - he used to have like one million piercings and then viper told him he looked dumb and then he cried - he was definitely a bug kid . “hey mom look at this cool beetle i found :)” “flame honey what is that get that away from me” - this goes hand in hand with the last one but ochre probably would kill bugs without thinking about it and then flame would get really mad at him and then cry - he blames himself for what happened with viper  - a kinkajou and flame friendship would be so funny . scene and goth duo fr - scared of the dark

Hey, I just discovered your blog (looks really cool) and I was wondering if there has been any news from Tui recently? Seems like she's been really quiet after the release of The Flames of Hope. She didn't even update her blog to celebrate its release like she usually does. Is she still going to book events and such? Has she answered any questions regarding the newest book and where the series is going to go now?

Yeah, feel like Scholastic rushed Tui to complete arc three and she's burnt out. That's not confirmed, she hasn't said anything like that publicly, but that's just my observation and from experience dealing with burnout.

I think Tui deserves a break and if she does make an arc four they need to give her more time between books. I can't imagine writing a whole book in less than a year.

A good example is that Legends Darkstalker took her three years to write where she wasn't pushed to publish as fast as arc books, and that's her best written book in the whole series.

It would be nice if Tui took a break and maybe focus on some short stories like the Winglets. Get some more lore out there for us to read and give herself time to think up a new arc.

I THINK ITS UNFORTUNATE HER ORIGINAL PURPOSE WITHIN THE STORY SEEMS TO BE A REPLACEMENT LOVE INTEREST FOR SUNNY, TO MAKE IT LESS WEIRD WITH THE FACT THE DOD ARE SIBLINGS.

I WISH WE COULD HAVE SEEN MORE OF THE FALSE DOD AS A WHOLE, REALLY! I LIKE THE DYNAMIC BETWEEN FATESPEAKER AND MORROWSEER. SHE DOESNT TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY, AS IF SHES UNAWARE AND NAIVE TO THE HATRED HE FEELS ABOUT HER. SHE DOESNT ACT LIKE A NIGHTWING SHOULD, TOO HYPER AND EXCITEABLE AND NOT INTELLIGENT AND BROODING ENOUGH. SHES HARDLY MYSTERIOUS, EITHER. UNLIKE SUNNY, WHO I IMAGINE IS MORE AWARE OF THE BAD OF DRAGONS, WHO SIMPLY CHOOSES TO HOPE THERES GOOD INSIDE, I THINK FATESPEAKER IS MORE OBLIVIOUS. THE FALSE DOD CANT HATE HER, THEYRE LIKE SIBLINGS! THEY JUST ACT LIKE THAT, THEYRE REALLY LOVING. SHE PROMISES. MORROWSEER CANT HATE HER EITHER! SHES GOT POWERS, JUST LIKE HE WANTED, HES JUST A BIT STRICT AND MEAN, AND ACTS LIKE HE HATES HER- BUT HE TOTALLY DOESNT! THINGS ARE OK, THE NIGHTWINGS GOT IT UNDER CONTROL, DONT THEY?

SHES NOT VERY ORGANIZED OR SCROLL ORIENTED, AND SHE QUITE LIKES THE WAY RAINWINGS RUN THINGS. SHE DOESNT REALIZE HOW DIFFERENT AND DISTANT SHE IS TO THE OTHER NIGHTWINGS. WELL, AT LEAST SHE DOESNT BEFORE STARFLIGHT. SEEING THROUGH THE WAY THEY TREAT STARFLIGHT, USING HER EMPATHY, SHE REFLECTS IT TO HERSELF. AND THIS CAUSES A LOT OF INTROSPECTION IN THE FACT THAT..MAYBE THINGS ARENT THE WAY SHE FEELS THEY ARE.

I THINK HER AND MOON WOULD GET ALONG WELL, TALKING ABOUT THE WAY THEY WERE OUTCASTED FROM THE NIGHTWINGS, AND THEIR POWERS. I THINK MOON COULD HELP HER FOCUS AND IDENTIFY HER POWERS, EVEN IF THEYRE NOT OF THE SAME STRENGTH.

I ALSO THINK FATESPEAKER AND KINKAJOU WOULD BE BESTIES. WHENEVER THEY HANG OUT THE OTHER JADE WINGLET ARE ON EDGE OF WHAT THEY MIGHT BE PLANNING

okay imagine a mudwing going to jade mountain and he's just unbelievably handsome and nice

and the seawing girl and the ambiguously gendered sandwing in his winglet are just in love at first sight

they quarrel over him while fawning over him,

bringing him food, helping him learn how to read, sharing beds and cuddles and compliments and sweetness

and constantly, constantly pulling off these giant gestures and setting up gorgeous moments by the sunset and writing poetry that is blatantly about him

webs is incredibly annoyed and tsunami's scales are falling out because the sandwing keeps insisting on sneaking fireworks into the mountain or something,

and the seawing and the sandwing's feud only gets worse but in the midst of a giant argument the sandwing is like like wait,,

you haven't gotten anywhere with him, too??

and the two of them compare notes and they're like damn,,

how the frick do you romance a mudwing

and they ask the nightwing in their winglet, who is a nerd, because what else are nightwings for if not for looking gorgeous while delivering exposition

and their nightwing friend (who is maybe still a little prone to stereotyping) is like, you know that mudwings don't like, fall in love, right

and the seawing and the sandwing are despondent and they kind of just come to the conclusion that their mudwing friend, even if he was the type to fall in love, is probably just not that into them

so they make up and they do their best to get over him, no more mushy stuff

but they still adore him, they still care about him, so they keep helping him, snuggling with him at night, sharing their food

and they bond over that, they visit each other's caves and hang out at night and list all the things they want to do with him:

"oh moons i'd love to take him to my favorite island, we could drink coconut water fresh and swim and—"

"LAME, i'd bring him to Thorn's palace, save up all my treasure and ask her cooks to make him a meal—"

"soooo romantic, feeling BLOATED AND SLEEPY in THE HOTTEST PLACE IN PYRRHIA"

and then they'd start compromising:

"well i guess an island in the middle of the ocean wouldn't be so bad if it had a big beach,"

"i guess the desert would be fine if i had access to water at ALL TIMES"

and months and months would pass

and they'd wake up and be like

crap,

i think i'm in love

but she/they still love the mudwing

and i still kind of do

and OH NO THE FULL MOON FESTIVAL THAT IS THE STORY'S STAND-IN FOR THE PROM and they're like noooooo what do i do

MEANWHILE THE MUDWING

is absolutely smitten, because who knew that all you had to do to make a family-oriented utilitarian fall in love was not moonlit walks on the beach but provide for them and sleep with them and be there with them over months and months,

but he has zero idea, he's just totally confused because mudwings don't really crush on anyone, he's kind of overwhelmed

and he's pining for the first time and in the middle of it he's like, wait, they've been making eyes at each other for like a year straight

this sucks, i hope they're happy together

and he goes to lunch the next day with the winglet and emotions are high for some reason so the seawing and sandwing get into an argument then have a giant fight and say things they immediately regret and the seawing's about to walk away and like, fly off into the horizon forever because her heart's broken

but the mudwing intercepts her and forces her and the sandwing to speak

because he just wants them to be as happy as they've made him

and the sandwing's like okay i love you but i know you still like the hot mudwing guy and it's tearing me apart and i just, i can't not say how i feel anymore

and the seawing's like uhhhh dude, same

and the mudwing is like wait what the hell?? i thought you guys were just being nice????

and then i don't know a more climactic way to phrase this but they kind of just all make out and then go to prom

Thoughts on Thorn?

First off: sorry for the delay, this was sent to me during my drunk "send me opinions" moment but I only saw it when I woke up and was. very hungover and embarrassed lol. Will try to live up to the original idea tho (plus I am like 3 shots in so you did get your wish in the end !!)

ANYWAY. I really like Thorn. I wish we saw more of her being the leader of the Scorpion Den and what her actual life looks like bc rn it feels like she's become basically Sunny and Qibli's loving mom who all but shows up with cookies for them and their friends when she gets screentime. I think a lot of fandom oscillates between ignoring her and trying to pin some hypocrisy or villain arc on her bc she killed Preyhunter, which. btw. I do have an ancient draft about when I was rereading Sunny's book and taking semi-annotated notes. It's ruthless, but it's not the unwarranted murder people want it to be- she has no reason to trust the Nightwings and Preyhunter opens the convo being rude and challenging her. It's definitely there just as a fakeout to make you think Thorn is Bad News so the parent reveal is more shocking, but I think it shows a really cool and cunning side of her that I wish got more screentime.

Her and Stonemover are also one of my favorite side pairings in the series, not in that they could ever be together again but like. c'mon now. I'm a good sucker for a self made tragedy. I do genuinely believe they could've stayed together forever/become a truly happy couple if Stonemover didn't get in his own head and fall prey to the narrative about animuses and the Nightwing superiority complex. I find the way he describes her as "straight out of his favorite scrolls" as genuinely really romantic, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE m/f pairings where the girl is the headstrong, ruthless one and the boy is a flustered, hopeless romantic who wants to be her pet impress her and win her over. They have some really fun gender fuckery in their relationship and I think it's a missed opportunity to discuss wof's inverted gender roles, what with Queens being the standard. I like to hope they could (platonically) co-parent Sunny after some hard, necessary conversations, but Stonemover is really the big problem in that reconciliation because he's so stuck (ha) in his self-loathing and regret.

I think Thorn is a great side character, and I don't need her to be anything more than that. I would LOVE a winglet or smth like that about her time with Stonemover, but I feel like after the dynamic I've built in my head it would let me down. I think Stonemover should be a boygirl and just a little trans and Thorn should be a butch she/he lesbian but that's my own brand of interest.

tl;dr: that woman is so queer and so cool 2 me <3. I wish she wasn't shoehorned into a relationship w Smoulder since it feels like it was just added because Tui didn't want her "to be stuck as single forever" which is a lame way to approach a woman who absolutely did meet the love of her life and it just. didn't work out. I wish we let stories like that sit a little longer and showed her being happy with her found family of the Scorpion's Den pursuing casual relationships maybe but being happy with the life she's built that's filled with love from so many different places.

Wings of Fire was a big part of my childhood, my library teacher showed me the books and the first one I read was The Hidden Kingdom and I fell in love with the books. To this day Glory and Moon are my favourite characters in the series. I didn’t finish the third arc but I have read books #1-13, Winglets, Darkstalker, and the first graphic novel.

And I’m just thinking about how absolutely FUCKED UP that series was. I love it but it was fucked up. Like The Dragonet Prophecy literally started off with a fucking double homicide???? And I made a list of the crimes that I remembered but it’s probably missing some things. And the book that has stayed with me the longest is Darkstalker. Like that book fucked me up so much when I read it. Like the audience knows it’s not a happy ending and Darkstalker is evil but IT IS SO MUCH WORSE??????

Clearsight is seeing every single future and she is seeing things no child should ever have to see and she knows that Darkstalker is her future. She knows how badly things can end if they end badly and she tries to ignore him but it obviously doesn’t work. Then she tries to control every single decision she makes because there are too many futures where things end badly but she so desperately wants them to be happy and they don’t and it’s so awful to see. She tries to control everything and in the end it means nothing. There is no happy ending, there’s no family, no children. Just hurt and betrayal and death.

Fathom sees his entire family be killed by Albatross who’s an animus and he is so scared of himself because he’s also an animus and he hates what he is. He is terrified of becoming like Albatross and when he meets Darkstalker, an animus who isn’t scared of his power and is good, he feels hopeful. But that hope is crushed when Indigo leaves him and he doesn’t know that Darkstalker put her in the statue so he thinks his best friend left him. Then he sees how out of control Darkstalker is, with the murders, the torture, the attempted regicide and literally DISEMBOWELLING AND KILLING HIS OWN FATHER in front of the entire Night Kingdom. It hurts.

Darkstalker starts off as this little kid who has too much power and a bad family situation. Then he sees Clearsight and he knows that they fall in love and he’ll be happy so he gives her space but he can’t hold himself back because he loves her and wants her and she’s everything he needs. But as the story goes on, he’s not the sweet little kid who loves his mom and sister and girlfriend. He’s twisted and cruel and wants people to know him and fear him. He makes himself immortal and indestructible because he doesn’t want to die and he wants to be revered. He’s a kid with too much power and people waiting for him to fail. He tries to be happy and in love but he can’t trust anyone, not even Clearsight, the person he’s supposed to love more than anyone. He gets rid of people like toys because he doesn’t like them questioning him. He gifts Clearsight earrings that limit her powers because he wants her to ignore the bad things and just be in love with him. And then he tries to kill Vigilance and is confused as to why Clearsight and Fathom are horrified. He genuinely cannot tell when he is wrong and he doesn’t care if he is. He learns from his mistakes yeah but not to improve himself, instead it’s to better his schemes. No is going to question his powers if he makes himself a mentor to Moon and constantly lies and manipulates her into thinking he’s a good person. No one is going to question him if he enchants them to love him the moment he gets his powers back. He doesn’t have to kill one IceWing a month when he can send a plague to wipe them out. Clearsight isn’t going to question him if he makes his own Clearsight by using a girl and warping her mind and body to look like Clearsight and obey his wishes.

That book has so much tragedy and heartbreak I’m still not over it. I am both unsettled and in love with that book.

One more day until it starts

Star awoke the next morning to find that yesterday was not a dream, and she was still here. She would be meeting the rest of her winglet today, which would be a good chance to take note of their personalities. Not in a creepy way or anything, but just to see what their tendencies were like.

Star walked out of her winget cave and finally took in the details of the school. There were little purple and yellow lanterns hanging in the hallway hosting a little candle in each of them. They gave a nice atmosphere in the hallways, making them cozy and soothing. As Star walked, she passed many other new students, walking towards the winglet caves, holding various items. One Seawing had an entire chest of jewels for no reason, a Skywing had a clacky white necklace, and a Hivewing came through holding a spectacle box and nothing else. Star saw that the Hivewing got a lot of weird looks. It was probably because a lot of dragons still weren’t over the whole Hivewing incident (Read books 11-15 to know what i’m talking about.) Star wasn’t one of those dragons. It was their stupid queen’s fault not theirs. But still dragons shot them dirty looks as if they were a Rainwing who couldn’t change colors. They just can’t handle anything beyond basic math because they’re all idiots whose parents never said ‘no’ to them in their entire lives. Anyhow. Star kept walking and exploring the school. She decided to check out the library first, as that was probably the place where Star would spend most of her time. Either A) reading B) Studying or C) Sketching. As Star was walking a Skywing bumped into her shoulder and said, “Watch it hybrid.” Star almost stopped. She hadn’t been called that in a very long time. She didn’t respond to people like that. They just wanted a reaction. The Skywing snorted a small laugh when Star didn’t respond. “Scared are ya?” He asked in an annoying tone, almost like her brother Astrion’s.

“No. I just don’t see a point talking to idiots.” Star snapped back, not at all scared of this stupid Skywing.

“Oh really?! You wanna fight hybrid?” The Skywing declared.

“Sure, why not.” Star said, brandishing her poisonous barb at him.

“Hah, you don’t scare me-”

“Oh, shut up Vermillion.” A female voice said from behind them.

“Ugh, not you.” Vermillion said, rolling his eyes.

“Hey, I’m Blizzard. Blizz for short. This here is Vermillion the dung hat. He’s got seal blubber for brains so don’t pay attention to him.” Blizzard said appearing out of nowhere.

“H-hi. I’m Star. S-StarGazer.” Star said, suddenly overwhelmed. Star’s brain was filled with the image of Blizzard’s beautiful face. Her sleek white scales, shining icy blue eyes, ice-like spikes sitting along her neck and tale menacingly. 

“That’s a nice name. Are you new here too?” Blizzard asked in a sweet tone.

“Uh, hello? I’m still here penguin brains!” Vermillion interrupted.

“Oh, be quiet. Go find a rat in the prey center or something.” Blizzard responded, clearly more interested in talking to Star. “Anyway, are you new here too?”

“Yeah.” Star squeaked out, blushing wildly. 

“Cool, I hope we’re in the same winglet!” Blizzard said, running off toward the wiglet caves. And Star couldn’t tell if it was just her wishful thinking or was Blizzard blushing a little? It didn’t matter. Just get to the library. Star hurried over to the library and found a corner to hide in. Star began looking around the library. Star noticed that the librarian was blind. Star didn’t exactly know how that worked, but she wasn’t brave enough to ask. Star eventually found some scrolls she was interested in. An interesting series about a scavenger boy getting into magical trouble with his friends. Star decided to stay and read for a while before the librarian said we had to go to initiation. Star and a few others shuffled out of the library and into the main hall. It was very crowded in here and Star had to take a second to quiet all the voices. Eventually a group of dragons shuffled on stage. A Mudwing, Seawing, Nightwing, Rainwing, and Sandwing.

“Hello new students! Welcome to Jade Mountain! We are so excited to have you here. Within these school walls, we know that you may not like each other, but you will have to respect each other as long as you're here. So I don’t wanna hear a single word about someone being rude. And if I do, we have a very strict policy for punishment and you will get a 5 hour detention. So, I hope you all know that before we start the year. Anyway, with that out of the way, we hope you enjoy your stay at Jade Mountain. We have activities in each of the rooms of the school. However, if you are tired, you may go to your winglets and sleep. Or whatever it is that you kids do these days.” The Seawing explained poking her wings toward various rooms in the school. Star was tired, but she wanted to see what event was happening in the library. Star walked over there having to really try to shut out everyone’s annoying thoughts. As Star approached the library, she noticed Blizzard there looking around. Star tried to act natural and walk up to her but ended up nervously shuffling to the other side of the library. There was a writing event going on, where StarFlight, the librarian, would let you make a book, and place it into the library. It was cool but Star was kind of nervous about sharing her work. Sure she could submit one of her already done works from home, or she could write a completely new one. Maybe a guide for new students like herself. As Star was studying the shelves, Blizzard walked up to her.

“Hi, Star.” She said, fiddling with her talons.

“Oh! H-hi, Blizzard. H-how's it going?” Star stuttered, once again, swallowed by Blizzard’s image.

“Good. This writing event sounds interesting to me, although I’ve never really written a book before. Have you?”

“Yeah, I uh, I have.” Star squeaked, nervous in the presence of Blizzard.

“Really? Cool! I would like to read one of them sometime. I-if you want.” Blizzard finished nervously.

“Y-yeah. Sure. Um, I have one in my bag in my winglet cave. I could go get it for you.” Star suggested.

“I’ll come with you! It sounds like fun.” Blizzard said, smiling. 

The 2 of them walked out of the library and towards the winglet caves. They walked in a pit of awkward silence, neither of them knowing what to say. Eventually they reached the Jade winglet cave. Blizzard gasped and said “I’m in this winglet too! Yay!”

“Oh, yeah. C-cool.” Star stuttered, realizing she’d have to deal with even more of Blizzard. Which wasn’t a bad thing, but that meant more stuttery nervousness. Star walked over to her bed and opened her satchel. She rummaged in it for a bit before feeling the familiar leather cover of the book she wrote. Star lifted it out of the bag and handed it to Blizzard. She seemed very excited to see a book, but who can blame her? Both of them were very tired so they decided to stay in the winglet cave and talk for the rest of the day. 

“So where are you from?” Blizzard asked, getting comfy in her bed.

“The Rainforest. I live in Cocoona village. What about you?” Star asked.

“I usually stay in the ice palace. My mom is Snowfall. She’s nice but sometimes it’s nice to get away from my duties with her. I’d love to visit your village sometime!” Blizzard explained, getting excited at the end.

“Oh, yeah you probably could, although I’m not sure how the others in the village would react. My mom would probably like you though. She’s friends with Snowfall. Sorta. She helped solve the whole Pantala thing. She also helped organize the trade route between us.” Star explained shrugging.

“Oh, is your mom Moon? Cool. I heard she’s really nice.” Blizzard said, smiling sweetly.

“Yeah, she can get a little annoying sometimes though. With all the ‘It’Ll MaKe SeNsE wHeN yOuR oLdEr’ stuff.” Star was a little surprised that Blizzard didn’t freak out when she found out her mom was Moon.

“Haha, yeah. My mom says that a lot too. It is annoying. Like, how about you stop repeating that, and give us something we can understand then? It’s not that hard.” Blizzard said, laughing a little.

“Yeah! Like, when there was an evil character in books when I was young, I would ask ‘Why is he being mean?’ And I would have gotten the concept of bad much earlier if my mom just said, ‘because not everyone is good.’ instead of ‘It’ll make sense when you're older.’ Sorry does that make sense?” Star said, realizing she might be talking a bit too much.

“Yeah that does make sense! We could’ve gotten a grip on the world easier if they just laid it on us.” Blizzard said, throwing her talons in the air. Just then a Hivewing walked through the door.

“H-hi is this the, uh, Jade winglet?” The Hivewing asked, pushing up his broken spectacles.

“Yeah, welcome!” Blizzard said, waving him into the room.

“Th-thanks.” The Hivewing chose the hive-looking hexagon shape bed for himself.

“I’m Blizzard, and this is Star. What’s your name?” Blizzard asked the Hivewing.

“I’m, uh, Ant. Nice to meet you.” The Hivewing said, setting down his things.

“Ant? Really? What a stupid name!” Said Vermillion’s annoying voice from the doorway.

“Shut up Vermillion! You act like you're literally not named after a color!” Blizzard protested in Ant’s defense.

“Please don’t tell me you're in our winglet.” Star said, placing her snout in her talon.

“Oh yes I am hybrid! I’m part of the Jade winglet! The same winglet that took down Queen Wasp!” Vermillion announced, as if nobody knew already. Ant flinched a little at the words ‘Queen Wasp’ Star guessed it was because of the war. Vermillion took the bumpy ledge and continued to spew his nonsense.

“My dad says that Hivewings still can’t be trusted. They’re probably just building up their forces to take us down. He also says that Silkwings are just stupider Rainwings. And I agree.”

“Well, your dad is an idiot.” Blizzard said, flipping open the book Star had given her.

“What!? No he’s not! Yours is!” Vermillion shouted.

“Yeah, I’m sure.” Blizzard said, not caring at all about Vermillion.

“Your Icewing brain is just to stupid to handle it!” Vermillion said, trying to get a reaction.

“Really? My brain is the one that’s stupid here. Uh-huh. Sure makes total sense.” Blizzard said, sarcastically. 

“Mph- Ugh! I hate you!” Vermillion huffed, turning his head away.

“That’s nice.” Blizzard said, turning the page.

Star could hear Ant’s thoughts saying thank you silently. He was an obviously shy dragon, but he was still polite. Even if it was in his head. Star pulled out her sketchbook as she guessed nobody wanted to talk. She started sketching Blizzard, hoping that she didn’t notice. Star remembered her earring and looked at it. It was glowing a little, but not much. The little tear drop shaped piece of purple glass sparkled at her, pointing out its little star details. She knew what it meant but Star didn’t want to answer it right now. A light green Rainwing with pink highlights, and purple details walked in.

“Is this the Jade winglet?” She asked, looking quite disgusted at the sight of Vermillion.

“Yep! Welcome.” Blizzard said, smiling.

“Great. Thanks. I’m Castra by the way.” The Rainwing said, flying up to the hammock.

A Sandwing came in next, looking excited. “Alright! This is the Jade winglet right?” Blizzard nodded in response. “Sweet! I’m Cactus!” The Sandwing said, bounding over to the heated stone ledge. The next dragons were a Mudwing named Cat-tail, a Seawing named Tortoise, and a Silkwing named Weaver. Eventually, it got dark, and they all went to sleep peacefully.

3.  Favorite book? [Winglets, guides, graphic novel, ect.]

My #1 favorite is The Lost Heir! The Dragonet Prophesy Graphic Novel is my fav Graphic Novel though! That early art style, although funky at times, is super memorable.

9. Favorite antagonist?

Anemone <3 personally, I don't view her as an antagonist, but she does beat up one of the main characters so? Snowfox too.. shes so cool. Blister is my fav of the main villains though, shes so conniving but also dumb as hell. Love her.

 40. Free space! Ramble as much as you want!

Ohhh no. Evil one to give me. I'll ramble about why The Lost Heir is my fav book under the cut & how it connects to Anemone being my fav "antagonist"!

I started reading the series with the Lost Heir! It immediately sucked me in (I saw ocean dragons and it was an immediate fixation lmao). I found Tsunami's personality so endearing and relatable, her fierce love and affection being misconstrued by those she loves, her desire to find love an family elsewhere, only to fall back onto those she loves and who love her back. The "who-done-it" murder mystery was incredibly fun as well. As a kid the horror of the Orca statue was so prominent, one of the first books to fully immerse me in the world & main character's emotions.

Throughout the entire book, the showing of Coral's parenting dynamic is also fascinating. Her love for Tsunami diminishes as soon as her egg is threatened, she loves her daughters until she thinks they won't conform to her idealistic view of them. Anemone as a character in this book was so fascinating and I was incredibly upset that Tsunami left her behind in my first read. The murder of Whirlpool was fantastic and so upsetting for Anemeone, and the introduction of Anumis magic like that! Guh! SOO fascinating! The reader is immediately presented with the idea of this all-encompassing magic, and immediately shown a child who has had no autonomy over said magic, and no matter what she does her magic is used as a weapon. Even worse, after accidentally murdering her abuser whom everyone else glorifies, it's revealed her older sister had committed horrific murder with her own magic. LIKE THAT'S SO FUCKED UP! I find Anemone to be a super interesting character & presenting her in an antagonistic light is so upsetting, because I wish more readers saw the tragedy in her character. That poor kid has had 0 autonomy her whole life, even over her own talons, so when she finally gets a chance to be on her own, she's gonna try and prove herself & find herself out the only way she knows how. I love her as a character and I hope she continues to be a primary character in future books.

Cursed Bond

Chapter 4

Time passed and the Autobots were getting no closer to finding Arcee than when they started. The kids' school had been out for a couple of weeks for a break and it was getting to the time when it will start up again. Jack had been out of state visiting with his father for the break so he has no idea what happened to Arcee. 

The day had come when he would return, so the Autobots, Raf, and Miko were getting ready to break the news to him about Arcee. The kids arrived at the base, Jack was riding with Wheeljack, "Hey, Optimus, what's going on? Why didn't Arcee come to get me?" Jack asked after he got out of the car.

"Jack, we have some grave news. Something happened while you were away," Optimus replies.

"What happened?"

"Arcee was taken by Megatron."

Jack's eyes widened as he felt his world crash down around him, he couldn't believe what he just heard, "W-when? How?"

"A bit over a week ago. We went to an Energon mine to investigate some Energon readings and the 'Cons were there, we got into a fight with them, and while we were shooting our guns one of the blasts hit an Energon crystal and it blew up. It knocked all of us out, when I started coming through I saw Megatron was there. He picked up Arcee and carried her through the Ground Bridge. I tried to get up to go stop him but I was too weak from the blast I couldn't do anything."

"You guys haven't been able to get her back?"

"No, we've been searching for any traces of signal so we could go get her but haven't had any luck," Ratchet responded.

"But you're still trying, right?" Jack asked as he started to panic, he was getting really worried for his guardian and friend.

"Yes, we are still trying, we haven't given up and we won't give up until we get her back," Optimus reassures him.

Jack nods his head, "I know you won't, I believe you guys will get her back."

"Hey, Jack, let's play a game. Come on I'm ready to beat you again," Miko called out to him, she wanted to try and cheer him up.

"That's what you think," Jack said with a smile as he went over to where she and Raf were sitting. He takes a controller and sits down, "I'm the one who's gonna beat you."

"I don't think so," Miko says with a determined look as they start their game.

Bulkhead looked around and noticed Wheeljack wasn't there with them anymore so he goes to look for him. He finds him in Arcee's room sitting on her berth, "How are you holing up?" He asked him.

Wheeljack looks up at him with sad optics, you could tell he had been on the verge of lubricating for some days now, "I miss her, Bulk, I want her back."

"I know you do, we'll get her back and you can be with her again."

"When we get her back I'm never leaving her side again."

"Good. She's been depressed lately because you hadn't returned, she was starting to think you would never return, also that something might have happened to you and you were offline or something."

Wheeljack vented out a sigh, "I didn't mean to worry her, I've had all intentions to return sooner but like I said stuff happened that delayed my return."

"Yeah I know, now just to get her back and tell her."

"Yeah."

Arcee left the ship to go for a drive, after some time of being cooped up Megatron allowed her to go out. It felt nice to feel the wind against her armor and the dirt and gravel under her tires, she missed the feeling of it and was relieved to be able to feel it again. This feels so nice, I really missed this. I just hope Megatron's not gonna make me pay him back for this kindness, most likely will. But I'm not gonna worry about it, I'm just gonna enjoy my free will while it lasts. 

She pulls up to a riverbank and transforms, she then sits down next to the stream. She looks at her reflection in the water and stares at the Decepticon symbol now embedded on her winglet where the Autobot symbol had been. She sneered as she felt disgusted at the sight of it, "I can't believe Megatron made me change my insignia, though I figured he would since I'm now his mate," she says as she continues to look at it. She lays down in the grass and looks up at the sky as memories flood her processor. 

Before long she started feeling a pain in her chest, in her spark chamber, she sits up with a servo on her chest as she wonders what was going on. The pain started going away so she thought nothing more of it, but then the pain started again even more painful. She grabbed her chest as she curled up into a ball, "What is going on? This pain... it hurts so bad." 

She felt her systems starting to shut down and she started to fade into unconsciousness. She got on the comm to call for a Ground Bridge to the ship, "I... need a... Ground Bridge," she says as she tries to get her air systems to function, they were crashing big time. She sees the Ground Bridge opening up and she tries to get to it but she collapses and passes out.

Megatron was on the bridge looking at the computers, searching for Energon or artifacts. The doors opened and Airachnid walked in. She was brought to the ship by Breakdown after their fight together. She walks onto the bridge and kneels before Megatron, "You wanted to speak with me, Lord Megatron?"

"Yes," Megatron replied as he turned to look at her, "I heard of your history with Arcee. I am warning you, do not try to harm her in any way, she is my mate and the femme of this ship which means you answer to her. If you cause her any harm or even try to cause her any harm you will be severely punished. Do I make myself clear?" Megatron said in a serious, threatening tone.

Airachnid felt a shiver run through her body as she looked up at him and saw the death glare in his optics, "Yes, my lord."

"As long as we're clear on that. Have you found any new readings?"

"None yet, my lord."

Megatron just turned around to look at the computers again, "You may leave."

"Thank you, my lord," Airachnid said as she gave a bow of her helm. She then got up and walked out, secretly fuming at what Megatron told her. She hates the idea that an Autobot femme, her arch-nemesis, is the femme of the ship and that she must answer to her. Just wait, when I get the first opportunity I will snuff out her spark.

"What's wrong? The meeting with Megatron didn't go well?" Starscream asked her mockingly as he watched her walk by.

"None of your business!" She replied venomously as she walked on. The two saw a Vehicon run by heading to the bridge room.

The Vehicon goes onto the bridge, "Megatron, sir, we got a call for a Ground Bridge from Arcee but she's not coming through. From the way she sounded, it seems something's wrong."

Megatron quickly turned around to face the Vehicon, "What!?" He shouted before he ran off the bridge and headed to the Ground Bridge control room. He gets there and sees a Ground Bridge open but Arcee wasn't coming through, he runs through the Ground Bridge and arrives at the river bank. He sees Arcee laying on the ground unconscious. He picks her up and carries her through the Ground Bridge back to the ship and takes her to Med Bay, "Knock Out!" He called out and the medic came.

"Yes, my lord," he quickly notices Arcee in his arms out cold, "What's wrong with her?"

"That's something I hope you'll tell me, examine her!" Megatron said as he laid Arcee on the medical berth.

"Yes, sir," Knock Out said as he got his scanner and started checking her over.

Starscream and Airachnid watched from outside the room, "Did you have something to do with that?" Starscream asked.

"No. Did you?"

"Oh come now give me some credit, I wouldn't do something that low. Especially if it meant getting a beating from Megatron."

"Come now, Starscream, I know you're against her being here just as much as I am."

"Of course I am, but I wouldn't do anything reckless."

"Neither would I." I bide my time.

The kids were all looking at the Ground Bridge along with Ratchet, they finally got a signal on Arcee and the bots went to get her and bring her back. Ratchet gets the call to open the Ground Bridge and he did, they see the bots returning, but no Arcee, "Where's Arcee? Was the signal false?" Jack asked with concern after not seeing his guardian with them.

"No, it wasn't false," Optimus replied as he looked at the child, "The readings indicate she was there we just got there too late, the 'Cons seem to have gotten there before we did and retrieved her."

"Oh..." Jack looks down with sorrowful eyes as his heart sank into his stomach. Miko and Raf put their hands on his shoulders to give him some comfort.

It took Arcee quite a while to actually approach reader and ask her out on a date. Not just because she had bad experiences with previous partnerships ending in death, but also because she never really confessed/put her feelings into words. So in most cases, it always felt just a bit one sided or up in the air on what exactly “partner” meant.

She aims for a casual approach, but ends up doing it in vehicle mode to spare reader from seeing her hurt if she decides to say no. 

She is sure she got rejected due to reader’s reaction, so she responds to silence and wide eyed look with a “It’s alright if you don’t want to, but just- Take some time. Think about it?”

She is surprised when she realizes that humans don’t have both arrays like Cybetroanians do. She decides to consult June eventually (and hopes Jack is oblivious enough to not question why the two want to talk.)

Their first time is just exploring each other, with Arcee being the one to guide her s/o if she gets too nervous. Touching, checking what feels good, setting boundaries and talking preferences.
