Warnings - ooc Dazai (kind of? Realistically, he’d never be in a relationship especially while in the pm.)

a/n - Quick warning, I’m terrible at writing. I’ve never really posted my writing before but I actually kind of like this one so here we are 🤗. It’s just a short drabble so atleast it’s not one of the longer ones I’ve written. Also the reader is said to not be apart of the port mafia in this one. It’s not really a warning so I couldn’t put it up there but it’s still kinda important to say I feel like.

When Dazai had called you and asked to meet up one random Saturday night you at first agreed without thinking much about it. After all, with your boyfriend being a port mafia executive you didn’t get to see him that often since you yourself weren’t a member. So now here you were, immediately regretting your decision to meet up with him. Maybe it was the fact it was completely dark and your night vision wasnt the greatest or maybe because you two were walking down some pathway alone in a dense forest, you really couldn’t tell. It had probably been a combination of both, you would have believed if it were with how fast your heart was beating.

“Your heart is racing, dearest.”

Dazai commented, his right hand tightly gripping onto your wrist, two of his fingers on your pulse point as you trailed behind him. You rolled your eyes, lips pressed into a thin line as you could barely make out your boyfriend infront of you.

“Well maybe it wouldn’t be if someone wasn’t dragging me through a forest in the middle of the night. If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume you’re bringing me out here to silence me.”

Dazai didn’t bother replying, an amused smile on his face as they continued walking down the narrow pathway. A comfortable silence fell between the both of you as you walked through the forest. After minutes of a surprisingly comfortable silence you two finally arrived at the spot Dazai wanted to show you, a small clearing in the middle of the forest that was covered in small flowers and had a river running through the middle.

“Come sit.”

Letting go of your wrist, Dazai walked over to a fallen tree trunk and sat down, patting the free spot next to himself. You followed him a few seconds later, sitting down next to him and looking at his face with confusion written all over yours as to why he had brought you here in the middle of the night. As if he had read your thoughts, he let out a soft chuckle, simply looking up at the stars as he intertwined one of his hands with yours.

“I simply wanted to stargaze with you my lovely. That’s all. How about I teach you a few constellations while we’re here, hm?”

also I had a breakthrough today that I had in fact overthought a Specific Problem to Death and that I had created a monster in my own mind and that’s why it felt like I was being eaten alive every time I tried to solve it.

#not to put too fine a point on it but that’s what happened with the whole is Maria going to become a nun question tbh #and I needed a counselor to say to me objectively and yet also crucially without any knowledge of me or my past: #you have overthought this and now you’re terrified of it #anyway it’s so obvious but it came home to me today. slowly. #like it was just like. Oh. You did it again #you’re terrified of this because you have thought of every possibility and every outcome and every twist and turn and shadow—- #until it has become a bloated demon in your mind that is totally separated from reality #while made up of real facts and details! and tbh I know it’s a common problem #but the anxiety chokehold I can put myself in is something that is so impressive and so disturbing #I can render myself absolutely helpless through the meanderings of my own thoughts #and what makes it worse—immeasurably worse—is that I get OUT of problems through careful thought and analysis #I’m programmed that way #so I can’t escape it by the usual means. I have to back away from the monster and see it and NAME it and then it can die away. #and only THEN can I apply my usual ways of going about things. I don’t know it just all clicked today #these past few days have just been bringing it all to a fever pitch for me #anyway I guess it’s also important to me that I still be allowed to be analytical about it!!! I have to use my brain!!!!!!! #in my desperation I have tried to shut it off to feel only with my heart. To try to catch the whisper of God’s voice in the wind #but tbh I am meant to use the gifts I have! #charles edmonstone my beloved #he's so much fun #and his friendship with guy is one of the best parts of the book #i'm shocked to see a victorian book where the disabled person is neither a monster nor a saint #the disability affects his life and the household but it's far from the only thing about him #he's a great character in his own right #he even has a plot-relevant illness #but the plot relevance isn't 'oh no he's near death let's have drama' #but 'he's having a flareup and can't write letters so someone loses a vital correspondant at an unfortunate moment' #(charles does later lampshade the lost opportunity for a dramatic deathbed reconciliation scene) #but anyway despite my continued comparisons of this book and little women #they are different books #aside from the laurie thing and the general family atmosphere and the moralizing mother figure there's quite a lot different #for one thing the male characters are much more interesting than most of the female ones #the girls are fine but certainly not the main draw of the story #i do like the religious aspect of this one more though #at first it was giving me anxiety cuz they agonize over teeny little sins #but once we moved from childish concerns to more adult ones the faith aspect became much deeper #still clunky and eye-rolling at times but also surprisingly natural in some places #and i'm still holding my breath for whatever made jo cry over this book #66% through the book; it's gotta be coming relatively soon #books #the heir of redclyffe #little women #charlotte mary yonge #louisa may alcott
