I genuinely don’t understand how people can watch the body swap episode and enjoy seeing Faith inhabit Buffy’s body and WORSE objectifying (Faith)Buffy being like “omg she’s so hot she slayed so hard I love Buffy in black leather”

Not only is SMG’s FRIGHTENING thinness even more apparent in Faith’s traditional wardrobe showcasing just how much she is practically skin and bone due to her being under immense stress and being so overworked which always just tears at my heart in so many ways but we are witnessing the WORST violation of Buffy’s body and autonomy!!!! I’m genuinely just sick the entire episode.

Bad enough she almost gets Buffy killed and finally gets her wish of (temporarily) stealing Buffy’s life which she has wanted to do since her arrival in season 3 (only to STILL not understand Buffy’s perspective until she does it again in a far less invasive way in season 7 after Buffy allowed her back into her home and she still never properly apologizes she’s like hehe turns our your life is actually pretty miserable and I don’t want it because I can’t handle the stress and constant pressure you’re under…. Oops!🙃) but unlike when Willow takes Buffy’s free will and autonomy away (where she at least still retains all the memories after the fact of everything that happened so she doesn’t have to wonder and can process them when she’s ready) Buffy has ZERO CLUE what all Faith allows to happen to her body while she’s not in it. And Faith isn’t unaware or passive about the power she holds and the things she can do to Buffy’s body in the position she’s in - she literally tells Riley, BEGS HIM - to do all of the nastiest things he’s ever wanted to do “to this body” she WANTS Riley to do things to Buffy’s body Buffy herself WOULD. NOT. ALLOW. it is one of THE MOST insidious lines in the entire series to me because not only is that an absolutely stomach churning, bone-chilling thing to say but then after the fact when angel asks what Faith did to upset Buffy so much she’s like “I slept with her boyfriend” like UMMMM WHAT??? EXCUSE ME???? That is literally the absolute LEAST of your crimes bitch be so fucking for real. This horrific violation is minimized down to oh well Buffy is just insecure about sex and especially sex in comparison to Faith like GROSS GROSSSSSSS. The entire thing is SO DISGUSTING and misogynistic AND it is part of why I genuinely do not give A FUCK about the events of seeing red as far as my love of spuffy goes because while that was absolutely the most traumatizing to watch not only was it so completely out of left field and out of character that it just doesn’t make sense in the narrative and is so obviously joss whedon coming over the loud speaker and going “women who enjoy sex with men I don’t approve of should and always will be punished” but it is the ONLY time someone hurts her in this way and PROPERLY APOLOGIZES AND MAKES THE PROPER AMENDS!!!!

So until EVERY. SINGLE. violation of Buffy’s body is treated with the same level of outcry seeing red is by all the anti-spuffys I genuinely DO NOT CARE. I DONT CARE because I’m just so done with spuffy girlies having that thrown in our faces by the morality police who are listening to the tiny white male puritanical cop in their head.

ALSO the fact that Riley not only doesn’t think ANYTHING is off about Buffy (when Faith is doing an absolutely HORRIFIC JOB of acting like Buffy) so he not only sleeps with her BUT TELLS HER HE LOVES HER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!??!?!?!? WHILE SHE IS LITERALLY PINNED BENEATH HIM?!?!?!?!? AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! RILEY FINN I WILL KILL YOU IF IT IS THE LAST THING THAT I DO.

Sooo... Um. "Fool for love" huh.

I wish my brain was functioning properly right now so I could write a fucking doctoral thesis about how absolutely BRILLIANT this episode is. However, it left me curled up on the floor shaking and crying, unable to put words together in a sentence that would make sense to anyone but me. So, yeah. What a fucking episode!?

As a side note, the fact that btvs writers clearly could write something of such quality but didn't /couldn't makes me really fucking sad. Because nothing in this show prior to this episode made me so feral and I feel like they missed out on a lot of opportunities to make their show this special.

A bit of incoherent thoughts because I just need to put it somewhere: something about Spike saying "I've always been bad" and them cutting to him being nice and kind and polite and gentle. Something about them telling us that demons are just shells of humans with no emotions or anything underneath. And then showing us bits and pieces of human Spike that he somehow got to keep? (like that parallel between vamp Spike saying "ow ow ow" as Buffy beats him up and human Spike saying the same thing as Dru draines him). Don't get me wrong he's a fucking asshole but he's capable of decency (if not kindness) and he's still as cringe as he was before he grew out a shiny pair of fangs. And him KNEELING BEFORE BUFFY as he tells her the secret of her mortality (crappy screenshot attached because I can't get it out of my head)

And him being unable to kill her and being the only person that kept her company in THAT moment.

There's more things but my brain is all mushy and I literally can't think straight.

i also made playlists of the kind of music i think they'd listen to :') you can listen to spot's here. most tracks fall under the hardcore subgenre, but there's also a good amount of ska and pop. generally has a chaotic, garage, and/or dated kind of sound, really wanted the kind of stuff that scratches my brain in a specific, rough way

I don't ship Buffy Summers with Spike because I like Buffy. I ship them because I LOVE her. I love how they were not supposed to be, how they represent the parts of each other they fear the most but eventually they embrace.

For the first time, she has an equal partner, who is not intimidated by her strength or to be *only* her sidekick.

Buffy’s journey to understand she does love Spike is something unmatchable, she spent the last 3 seasons being afraid she can not love anymore, and then… her last 3 words on the show are “I love you, Spike”. It’s healing, it’s self care, it’s… I’M GOING TO BE INSANE BECAUSE OF THEM.

I have just been blindsided by the fact that many younger Buffy fans are under the impression that Passions is a fictional soap opera that was invented for BtVS and not an absolutely real one and that yes all the storylines they mention on the show were real and concurrent to Buffy.

i just think that while it’s very cool that spike is just a silly little guy that there’s an inherent nerfing and flanderization going on with him since about s4 to make him “Acceptable” for the show which i think speaks to the issues the show had behind the scenes when dealing with several different issues/topics/situations -- similar to how they declaw angel so much in ats and refuse to explore his history/psychology any more than the barest amount bc they’re afraid it would make him “unheroic” in the most classical and basic concepts of a hero.

i think a spike that’s allowed to be menacing and is presented as inherently dangerous but is choosing not to be towards the scoobies is just more compelling. also i think given his reputation as a slayer of slayers, how they basically constantly hype him as second only to buffy and then have him get tapped out in a fight super easy just so buffy looks better is stupid. and i hate it. they did something similar to angel too when he was on btvs.

i want his title to mean something. i want the sense that tbh, he probably could take buffy even after the Ls he’s taken from her since he has a crazy amount of fighting exp and you know, learns. but again due to changes in his character over time loses interest in that and genuinely prefers to fight with her and not against her.

the concept of basically having your arch nemesis forced into being your house exotic animal is so fascinating but we don’t get to really enjoy it in to its full extent because they nerf spike so fucking hard so fast. i love the idea of buffy KNOWING she’s basically keeping a cougar in her house but also knowing she can wrestle the cougar into submission most of the time and that there’s pros to having the cougar around so she does. and ofc spike, as someone driven not just by violence but also by love, comes to enjoy being kept by her and stops complying because it benefits him and starts to comply because he wants to. but they both always know that spike can, could and would become EXTREMELY dangerous whenever he wanted and that it’s a hard 50-50 on who’d make it out alive if he did.

BTW if you wrote off MLP Make Your Mark early on, you should watch chapters 5 and 6 because it’s the end of what I’d consider the first season, and by the end it’s actually quite satisfying and is leading into better episode pacing, better characterization, a better villain, and fucking FINALLY better songs!! I’m willing to accept a land of Alicorns as a change, and everything else that calls back to G4 actually makes a lot of sense, especially on this rewatch. I’m very excited for the tone and standard set by the last episode of Chapter 6 and what it will hopefully mean for the rest of the series!!

G4 also had a weak-ish first season, or at least one that was viewed as such at the time of release, so I really hope that this new arc brings a similar increase in quality. We’re starting from further down, but hey all that means is the improvements don’t have to be insane to be better lol I have hopes!
