MTV initial study, done by Marshall Space Flight Center, by Max

Revised conceptual study for MTV, circa 1982 design freeze, by Max

MTV Minerva being serviced prior to departure on an Olympus mission, as well as OV-106 Intrepid, by Jay
The Olympus Mars Transfer Vehicle was something of a miracle of science and engineering, and showcased some of the greatest cooperation for the entire program as a whole. As important as landing on the surface of Mars is, getting to Mars is a whole different half of the equation, and ensuring that the right equipment would do the job was part of the uphill battle for the program. In the beginning of the design process, it was unclear whether or not the architecture would be chemical, nuclear, or some sort of strange combination of the two. Highly experimental solar electric or even nuclear electric proposals had been thrown around, but it was unclear whether those would be ready in time for the projected late 1990s landing date. Initially, things were dire, as the Olympus Partners stared down the failures of General Atomics to produce a working Valkyrie engine, the key to a reusable nuclear architecture. Ultimately, Lockheed and Naval Reactors would succeed in flying their demonstrator, Way-Seeker, and secure the contract to produce the propulsion section. Boeing would lead the work on Habitat design, a radical new concept for inflatable modules that would enable much greater volume on a single launch. This inflatable habitat would be augmented by a Utility Node, also built by Boeing, and would contain the life support, air lock, and docking systems that would be utilized by ships visiting the MTV. Two Multi Purpose Mission Modules, built by Thales Aerospace, would join the MTV before a mission was due to depart, enabling greater habitable volume and delivering mission specific equipment for the intended landing site. The final component, the Earth Return Lifeboat, would ensure the safety of the crew if something were to go wrong. This capsule would be a large, Apollo CM derived vehicle built by Lockheed and Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (later Airbus), and could seat a crew of 8.
The MTVs of the Olympus Fleet, Minerva, Prometheus, Hera and Selene, would do their duty well. Each would lead the way in pioneering new triumphs and bring comfort to the crew in times of hardship. They would shelter them from storms, and bring their crews home every time. Even during the disaster of Olympus 9, where all hope seemed lost, Hera gave her all to ensure that her crew would get home safely, sacrificing herself into the inky void of space to throw her passengers home. Towards the end of their usable lives, Minerva, Prometheus and Selene would see continued use supporting Destiny, shuttling cargo landers and crew to and from the lunar surface as infrastructure quickly spread. For the crew of Foundation, the outpost in Noctis, a fleet of new MTVs would emerge, chemical-electric, nuclear and even chemical "cargo sleds" that would push great volumes of equipment. The Americans would lead the charge with their radical Chem-NEP design, the Armstrong class. These would be fully reusable, and leverage design work being done since the start of the program. Japan and Canada would contribute heavily to the Armstrong Class, with logistics modules and robotic arms as their main gifts. Europe's largest contribution would be the Euro-Russian Copernicus Class, a nuclear thermal system based on work done by the Americans in the early days of Olympus. These would be smaller in crew complement but much larger in cargo volume, delivering great aeroshells to the surface. China would also deliver new vehicles, the fully solar-electric Tianzhou class, based on their earlier endeavors in asteroid exploration. These were strictly for cargo, and ensured that Chinese Taikonauts had seats onboard American or European MTVs. This fleet of MTVs would enable a continuous human presence on Mars in the low hundreds throughout the middle of the 21st century.

Supernatural hot takes, from someone who just finished Season 8, and is also from Kansas.
- Charlie, it is pronounced Sa-line-A not sa-Lean or sa-Lean-a, for Christ sake.
-At the same time, Salina is not in Shawnee county. Topeka is, however.
- There are cons in Wichita people. Give it some love.
- Going back to previous seasons, Wichita is not small. It's metro population is like 400k or something. They have a AA baseball team and a minor league hockey team! They do not have a Freddy Fasbear wanna be on the edge of town off a gravel road or some shit. Please, there's an Urban Air out there and an inflatable water park off the highway.
-Also, Lawrence is a college town. It's not only gonna be much bigger and more modern than the podunk they show in Seasons 1 and 5, but it's also gonna be fairly 🌈🌟liberal🌟🌈.
-Even back in the seventies if John Winchester was originally from Lawrence, he'd be fairly liberal. Which is why, based on his characterization, I'd say he's never been in Lawrence, aside from to spend time with Mary (I'm only on Season 9 episode 2, if I'm missing things, don't kill me).
-This feeds into my head canon that Sam and Dean are very different politically. Like Dean's pretty red neck gun ho and so is Sam, but deep down those two years at Stanford really got the blue blood flowing (further evidenced by the Native American vs Indian exchange in S8E21 or whatever).
- (But to be fair, in history teachers refer to Native Americans as Native Americans unless we're talking Columbus or quoting historical documenst)
-I'd imagine the first few years back with Dean would've been very fun with discussing politics.
-They both, in my opinion, would be against gun restrictions simply because they are hunters. And those restrictions would make it harder to find weapons.
-Back to horrible portrayals of Kansas, we don't have naturally occurring pine trees. If you're gonna act like you're in Kansas, those pines better be on a Christmas tree farm in Novermber or December.
-And you also couldn't have even bothered to google some shit about Kansas like "what county is x city in" or whatever?
-Also, in the last episode of season 5, I don't buy that BS about driving two days to see a KU game. Neither Sam or Dean had mentioned ever being college ball fans, then suddenly that gets brought up, like 🤨?? Personal opinion, that was smashed in there to make it seem more Kansas-ey.
-Also that Kansas City episode... just...gaah...!!!
-Also, the Men of Letters bunker in Lebanon? First, Lebanon is super tiny, so I guess good job there. Second, everyone's just gonna assume that's a fricking tornado shelter because it's a concrete door in the side of a hill, and in Kansas, there are tornados. But if you're going for hiding in plain sight, I do applaud you on that one.
-Quick diversion to Missouri: where in the hell do they think -other than the Missouri River, which doesn't appear to be the case- someone's gonna keep a boat chained up at the dock? Why was Kevin's boat desert in Missouri? Was it just for proximity to Lebanon?
-Also there is literally a haunted house in Atchison, KS called the Sally/Scratch House and the story sounds like an episode of Supernatural why did we not do this people😠? Why?!?!
-In conclusion: I love you Sam and Dean, but you're writers coulda done a better job on Kansa-fying you.
-PS neither of them spent significant amounts of time in Kansas so I don't even buy the "everyman from Kansas" BS for a second.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk y'all.

4. Rest day - Island
Tumblr media
Time/Place: Post-Endwalker. Tataru gives Marji a wonderful gift, but she should have read the fine print first. Spoilers for Endwalker and beyond
Word count:  703
“Your own island!” Tataru exclaimed.
Marji took a step back, tail coiled behind her. She must have heard Tataru wrong; but then again, the woman’s been making so much gil behind the scenes. She could give Rowena a run against her capital gains. It could be possible...and if it’s an island, there’s a beach, and if there’s a beach there’s water, and if there’s water people must get there by boat, and with people comes food and shelter and supplies and maybe those coconuts with itty bitty umbrellas in it and-
“I’ve got to tell Raiku.”
“I,” Tataru began as Marji turned tail and took off for the Baldesian Annex. Tataru cupped her hands around her mouth “Go to the Moraby docks come the morrow! I’ll just…” Marji’s out of sight, and Tataru laughed to herself “Give you the run down of it there.”
The next day Raiku’s legs wobbled as he held up all of his ‘supplies’ on the ferry. His sunglasses tilted dangerously low on his nose, threatening to hop off at the next slap of a wave. Marji tightened the knot round her neck to keep her sunhat steady. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue, nary a cloud in the sky. They could see the island come closer and closer, and her tail swished behind her.
“A little help Marj,” Raiku said as he knocked his head back to keep his glasses in place.
Marji scooted her bag filled with blankets and towels behind her as she reached to fix his glasses back into place, flicking his own sunhat back for good measure.
“You can put that stuff down while we wait to get there.”
“No!” He pulled his own bag, inflated beach ball that looked like a moonfire faire bomb, and surfboard closer to his chest. He bent at the knees to look at her over top of the stuff. “We have not gone to the beach since Titan, and that doesn’t count because of those twice damned buffet people. We went to the edge of the universe, we deserve to bring every frivolous thing possible and burn to a crisp in the sun. It’s our twelve given right at this point-you” he looked around, incredulously “you and I have been in the heavens kicking their asses too! Nope, nu-uh, everything is going to be tossed over on the sand and that’s the only time I’ll drop it.”
Marji laughed and grabbed hold of the beach ball. “Least let me carry the cumbersome thing.”
It took another 15 minutes before the ferry docked on a makeshift pier. The wood shifted beneath their feet as Raiku and Marji waddled over it. They thanked the gods as sand gave way beneath them, and stared at Tataru expectantly. She had her hands on her hips, legs spread wide and chest puffed out. With a flourish of her hand, she presented the island.
“Welcome to your very own island.”
Marji and Raiku grinned at each other. The air was alive with the sounds of birds and cicadas. Palm trees reached high into the sky, the foliage and shrubbery around it blending seemlessly with the beach front. Giant, red flowers sprouted tall and proud, little bees on their way between each to collect pollen. The smell of salt and earth slowed Marji’s erratic heartbeat, and calm enveloped her.
“So where do we put our bags?” Marji asked.
“Anywhere you’d like.” Tataru said.
“Oh will someone come to pick them up?” Raiku asked through red cheeks.
“No silly; well, we have a couple of mammets to help you cultivate the Island, but I don’t think they’re built to carry that sort of thing.”
“Cultivate?”
“Yes! We were able to secure a deal with Merlwyb. If we can get the Island in working shape it will belong to you as our Warrior of Light. And hopefully your friends as well if you so choose.”
“You mean we have to do work on the Island?” Marji asked dumbly.
Thunder clapped above them. A downpour broke above their heads, turning the green sunshine into a soupy grey. Raiku dropped his things to the ground and fell to his knees, fists balled towards the blackened sky.
“Nooooooooooooo”

Was rereading this again last night and got stuck on this scene again. I’m sorry, it is one of my favourites.
-o-o-o-
Scott stared as his home crawled over the horizon. Lit from the west, the peaks of Tracy Island were sculpted in gold, the water surrounding her sparkling in the dying sun.
It was a beautiful sight.
Virgil shifted against him, snorting softly in sleep.
Scott had been out on the bow of the boat for hours. First talking to Virgil, working through some of the events of the day until his exhausted brother slowly tipped sideways, falling asleep despite the breeze and the soft toss of the boat.
Scott just wrapped an arm around him and held him while his brother slept.
His butt was numb from lack of circulation, but he didn’t care.
John had approached at one point and quietly handed him a tablet full of information about whales. It was full of data he didn’t understand and he desperately needed to talk to his genius brother about what it all meant.
But for the moment, he was content to listen to Virgil’s breathing, the wind and watch their home inch closer and closer.
He was aware of Gordon keeping an eye on both of them, the pilot adding more speed to the journey today than he had any other day. There had been relaxation, but all of that had disappeared with recent events.
Hell, it had disappeared the moment they had discovered the trapped calf.
Fire ignited in his belly at the thought. He needed to speak with Penelope and follow up on what had happened to those responsible.
His father’s desk lay waiting on the Island.
Relief and dread waited with it.
He closed his eyes and evened out his breathing. It had been such a relief to let go last night. Mel had met his energy with her own, her hands in his hair, a pardon on her lips. No ties, no obligation, just a moment to be himself, find comfort in her arms and let go.
He was ever so grateful. His brothers may laugh, but it was the only way he could truly release everything that built up day after day. Life was a challenge and he was willing to take it on, but everyone needed a moment.
Mel had given him that moment...and a little more.
Virgil shifted against him as Gordon turned the boat slightly and began to slow on approach.
Scott opened his eyes to watch Mateo shift to starboard. The bow dropped a little as their speed lessened, the background noise of the engine changing pitch.
Virgil muttered something and shifted again.
Scott held him that little bit tighter.
A Little Lightning arced around the smaller island that protected their caldera from the open ocean and the yacht entered the sheltered lagoon smoothly.
The petrel colony raised a ruckus and squawked like crazy as they motored past, Gordon cutting their speed to almost nothing as the yacht coasted over coral.
There were two docks on Tracy Island. One on either side of the villa. Gordon chose the one adjacent to Two’s runway for obvious reasons. It was harder to dock such a large vessel, but it would be easier to get Virgil onto land, and, via the hangars, up to the villa. The other dock, near the beach huts, required a hike up to the house that Virgil was in no shape to make. Scott had checked his brother’s incisions earlier in the day and they were well into healing, but...it had been a weird day and Virgil was still asleep.
Gordon nudged the yacht ever so slowly up to the little used dock. It had been designed for supply delivery early on in the venture, but once the runway had been built, it had been used for little other than the occasional Thunderbird Four testing regime and a little recreational boating.
Nothing as big as A Little Lightning.
Gordon had mentioned early on that they would likely use the inflatable when they reached home, but the aquanaut had obviously changed his mind.
Virgil was definitely the reason.
John darted past Scott and Virgil, docking pole in hand, turquoise eyes targeting both of them. He didn’t say anything, but the concerned frown shot at Scott said everything.
Ropes were launched at the wharf bollards and the engine dropped down to a bare rumble. Alan yelled an acknowledgement at the back of the boat and John held up a hand to signal to Gordon. A slight shift sideways and A Little Lightning nudged up against Tracy Island and was secured.
Gordon cut the engine and its absence was profound.
John turned and smiled at him.
They were home.

Inflatable Loading Dock Seals
FEATURES
The Inflatable Dock Seals come with many features. Firstly, they reduce the pressure on building walls. Secondly, they create a tight, energy-saving seal around trailers. Thirdly, they ensure off-center trailers, including those not spotted, square to the opening. Additionally, they have a one-piece airbag construction with a unique internal baffle to create a square-faced design that maximizes contact area. Furthermore, they are available in a wide range of Vinyl or Hypalon fabrics.
BENEFITS
Inflatable dock seals are the barriers between the loading dock door opening and the surface of the backed-in trailer when it is in a position to load or unload assets. Furthermore, they are ideal for climate-controlled loading docks. Inflatable dock seals offer flexibility and convenience, creating the ultimate energy seal for your port without putting pressure on your building walls. There are the following benefits of installing them:

Inflatable Dock Shelter: Efficient Solution  | Loading Systems
Dockshelters are indispensable in the world of logistics. Dock shelters help to close off the space between the loading bay and the trailer of a truck. This allows a constant temperature to be maintained inside the building. One type of shelter that is becoming increasingly popular is the inflatable shelter.
What is an inflatable dock shelter?
An inflatable dock shelter is a flexible seal used on loading bays at distribution centres or warehouses. The inflatable dockshelter uses air pressure. Thus, the dock shelter can create a seal between the loading bay and the trailer of a truck.
These loading bay dock shelters have a fixed frame, assembled from scratch-resistant panels. The cushions are made of a polyester with a PVC coating. The inflatable shelter is available in different sizes and configurations for different types of trucks and trailers.
How does an inflatable shelter work?
An inflatable shelter seals the opening of a truck trailer airtight. This is achieved through the use of inflatable cushions. Once the truck has come to a stop, the fan can be activated. Within 30 seconds, the space between the warehouse opening and the truck is sealed.
Once the cushions are inflated, the dock shelter presses against the top and sides of the trailer. This helps prevent the ingress of dust, dirt and other contaminants into the loading and unloading area. In addition, this seal prevents the loss of conditioned air from the building.
What are the benefits of an inflatable dock shelter?
Using an inflatable dock shelter has several advantages over other types of dock shelters. Here are some of the most notable ones:
1. Improved energy efficiency
One of the main advantages of an inflatable shelter is its improved energy efficiency. The inflatable shelter creates an airtight seal around the opening of the trailer. This can minimise the loss of conditioned air from the building. This can lead to significant savings on heating and cooling costs, especially in areas with extreme temperatures.
2. Enhanced weather protection
Inflatable dock shelters also offer enhanced weather protection. Dock shelters prevent dust, dirt and contaminants from entering the loading and unloading area. This improves air quality and reduces the risk of product damage. Moreover, this creates a safer and more comfortable working environment for your employees.
3. Increased productivity
An inflatable dock shelter can contribute to increased productivity. Indeed, loading and unloading trucks is made faster and easier.
In addition, the shelter protects against weather conditions. This can shorten the loading and unloading time and reduce the number of interruptions. This improves the workflow and increases the efficiency of the loading and unloading process.
4. Reduced damage
Inflatable dock shelters can contribute to reduced damage as they create a safe and stable loading environment. The dock shelter is secured against premature truck departure. For example, the freely moving cushion mounts ensure that the truck's cushions rotate outwards. Thus, the suspension is not damaged.
In addition, the cushions of the dock shelter are also inflated only when the truck is docked. This prevents the cushions from being exposed to the collision forces of the truck. This increases the average service life of the inflatable shelter.
5. Versatility
Inflatable dock shelters are available in different sizes and configurations, making them very versatile. They can be adapted to a wide range of vehicles. Even those with unusual shapes or sizes. This versatility makes them a good choice for loading bays that have a wide variety of vehicles.

Types and Advantages of floating breakwaters system
A floating breakwaters system is a structure that floats in the water and helps to protect a shoreline or harbor from the force of the waves. Floating breakwaters come in a wide variety of forms, and each has a unique set of benefits. The most popular kinds of floating breakwaters are made of pontoons, barrels, and logs.
What are floating lake platform systems?
Floating breakwaters system are a type of coastal protection used to reduce the erosive effects of waves and currents onshore. They are typically made of large floating logs, concrete modules, or steel plates. The main benefit of using a floating breakwater system is that they are much cheaper to install than traditional coastal protection methods such as seawalls or revetments. They are also very good at lessening the effect of waves and currents onshore, which can help safeguard coastal infrastructure and buildings from harm.
However, floating breakwaters systems do have some disadvantages. They can be affected by storms and heavy waves, which can damage or even sink them. They also can create their own set of problems, such as increased erosion of the shoreline downwind of the breakwater, and can create sheltered areas that can become breeding grounds for harmful aquatic pests.
What are the different types of drive on floating boat dock systems?
In addition, they do a great job of reducing the impact of waves and currents onshore, which can help protect coastal buildings and infrastructure from damage.
The first type is the simple pile breakwater. This is simply a pile of large rocks or boulders that is placed in the water to act as a barrier. Although it is the simplest and least expensive kind of floating breakwater, it is also the least efficient.
The second type is the log boom. This is a line of logs or tree trunks that is placed in the water to act as a barrier. It is more effective than the simple pile breakwater, but is also more expensive and difficult to install.
The third type is the inflatable breakwater. This large inflatable bladder is placed in the water to act as a barrier. It is the most effective floating breakwater type but also the most expensive.
What are the advantages of floating ,best dock floats breakwaters systems?
There are many advantages to using floating breakwaters systems. Some of these advantages include:
1. They effectively dissipate energy and protect shorelines from waves and wind.
2. They are very easy and quick to install, and can be used in a variety of settings.
3. They are often more affordable than other types of breakwaters systems.
4. They are very environmentally friendly and can be used to protect sensitive areas.
5. They are easy to maintain and repair.
