Magic Story moment of the day:
Jace Beleren, the Living Guildpact (age 25) being told by Lavinia, his secretary, to eat his vegetables and then Dovin Baan immediately clocking him as a bullied child.

you know i know popular hc is that chandra is not smart but what if she like. is dumb but only by kaladesh standards of "smart is making a new invention heretofore unknown to physics" and gatewatch just never realized because chandra always assumed when they said they were smart that they were at that level

Walking Ballista Large construct, unaligned Armor Class 17 (natural armor) Hit Points 59 (7d10 + 21) Speed 30 ft. Str 18, Dex 16, Con 17, Int 3, Wis 11, Cha 7 Damage Immunities poison, psychic; bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks that aren't adamantine Condition Immunities charmed, deafened, exhaustion, frightened, paralyzed, petrified, poisoned, stunned Senses darkvision 60 ft. passive Perception 10 Languages - Challenge 5 (1800 XP) Aether Surge (1/Day). As a bonus action, the walking ballista regains 10 hit points, and gains advantage on its next attack roll made before the end of its turn. Actions Multiattack. The walking ballista makes two ballista bolt attacks or two arm blade attacks. Arm Blade. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+4) slashing damage. Ballista Bolt. Ranged Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, range 120/480 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d10+3) piercing damage. Bolt Volley (Recharge 6). The walking ballista makes three Ballista Bolt attacks, each against a different target.
This aether-powered construct fires ballista bolts from its middle, and hacks down any creatures who get too close with its arm-blades. It lacks much intelligence on its own to follow anything but basic instructions, but knows to active its Aether Surge when circumstances become desperate.
Another Magic: the Gathering card brought to life as a D&D 5e monster.

Here’s our MTGinktober for “Fire,” starring Chandra, the Firebrand; Fanatical Firebrand, and Velican Dragon! She's starting a new pirate crew, but they only raid wardrobes.
Ok, that's MTGinktober for the year, thanks so much for tuning in, I really appreciate it. As is tradition, I'm happy to do one or two requests if anyone's interested in a character I never got to. All right, thanks again, hope to see you next year.

“And…done! Here you are, Kari, another dragon sculpture as promised.”
With but a wave of her hands, Saheeli put the finishing touches on the dragon statue, twisting the material into a more defined shape. As soon as the artificer stopped her magic, the metal came to life, moving just like a dragon of meat and scales. It took flight and flew across the room, before finally perching atop the shoulder of the sky pirate standing opposite Saheeli.
“Er…t-thanks…” Kari Zev buckled under the sudden weight but quickly recovered, balanced somewhat by the monkey sitting on her other shoulder. “Ragavan and I are very grateful. But, just for the record, this isn’t for us.”
“Right, it’s for Jam,” Saheeli smirked. “But if you’re the one coming here, and commissioning me…and paying me?”
Kari rolled her eyes as she tossed a full coin pouch into her friend’s outstretched hand. “Jam may not be able to fit into your workshop here, but he’s smart.”
“He’s a dragon,” Saheeli clarified. “Not to turn down your money, but what could he even want with statues of dragons? He is one! And I’m sure he has enough treasure already, in that rooftop hoard of his.”
“You know, I’m not one hundred percent certain, but…I think he might be lonely up there.”
“Lonely?” This gave Saheeli pause. The artificer’s smile faded as she listened to Kari.
“Yes, or at least I think so. Think about it: he displays each one you’ve made him, then perches beside them.”
“Right,” Saheeli nodded, recalling the scene vividly. “Well…it doesn’t matter, really. You’re doing your…friend…? A good turn. And you’re not swindling me…for once.”
Kari withered under Saheeli’s glare. “Ah-ha, that was one time. Before I even knew who I was robbing! A-And besides, Jam is my friend, but he’s also more than that. He’s a symbol of us pirates’ fierce independence!”
“Mmm-hmm. Just like those statues I’ve made him?”
“Er, yeah, sure!”
Saheeli bit back a laugh.

[I don’t recall there being very many dragons at all on Kaladesh. I think there were, what, two total between the two sets?]
