Claw
Tumblr media
Seafood is awesome.  Crab is in my opinion a little underrated, partly because it’s just a bit too fiddly to eat and so when the street food stall Claw decided to open a permanent store in Carnaby Street dedicated to the crustacean, it was only a matter of time before I popped down to give it a go.
Tumblr media
Sunday afternoon, we headed down and started working our way through the crab based menu.  First up was the soft shell crab.  Crispy and flaky on the outside, soft on the inside; this was a great example of soft shell crab.  It came with a nice aioli and a bunch of spring onion.
Tumblr media
We also ordered crab on fries.  The fries were good but overall, I have to admit, this was a little disappointing.  The crab on top was a little mayo heavy with not quite enough crab in it for my liking.  I think I’d give this a miss next time.
Tumblr media
They call this a tuna tartare but really, it was more of a ceviche type thing with tiger’s milk.  Super refreshing though and perfect for a nice summer’s day.  One of the rare non-crabby dishes on the menu but worked really well.
Tumblr media
The place does rolls as well and we decided to go for the classic lobster roll rather than the crab, mainly because it came with a pile of shoestring fries on top which looked great!  The fries provided a great crunch to the whole thing on top of the creamy buttery mayo and lobster.  I think I still prefer the flavours of the Burger and Lobster lobster roll but this isn’t bad at all.  Think I would try the crab one next time though.
Tumblr media
The crab mac and cheese may have been my favourite dish of the whole meal.  This was creamy, cheesy. the macaroni was well cooked and there these big chunks of meaty crab nestled in the middle.  I think I might go back to Claw just for this.  This was excellent!
Tumblr media
Last not but least, just to make the meal a little surf and turfy, we ordered the special of the day, a beef dish.  As you can see, it was done pretty rare which I liked and came with some greens.  This was tasty but nothing particularly extraordinary.  Not a bad dish if you are craving some meat but if you’re not, I recommend sticking to the seafood here.
Tumblr media
The place is just off Carnaby street on Kingly street so is really convenient.  It’s a great place for a cheap and cheerful lunch or light dinner.  You can sit outside when the weather’s nice and enjoy the mac and cheese :)
Definitely worth a visit if you like crab!

Pork belly BBQ! In the 1970s, the pork belly began to trend among miners in the mining region in Korea. They began to eat in the belief that pork oil would eliminate coal mine dust. But now it's a national BBQ where everyone enjoys children to the elderly. . .

Korean Dinner Party
Tumblr media
Korean Dinner Party is a new addition to the Korean restaurant scene in London but rather than being a truly Korean place, Korean Dinner Party is supposed to bring a flavour of LA’s Koreantown to London instead. You can see that in the dishes with a very fusiony take on things but a lot of it looked pretty interesting so we popped down to give it a go.
Tumblr media
You can’t have Korean without having fried chicken. These were fried nuggets of chicken thigh that came with a layer of grated parmesan, garlic cream and you can’t see them but there were toppokki rice cakes underneath that. I was a little underwhelmed by the chicken itself but the cheese and the garlic cream were really yummy. The rice cakes were also fried so had a bit of a crunchy crust which I really liked.
Tumblr media
These were bacon wrapped mochi. These were delicious. I’m a big fan of mochi and a big fan of bacon so to put them together just seemed to make sense to me.  It was all caramelised as well so there was a nice bit of sweetness to go with the saltiness of the bacon and the chewiness of the mochi; I’d definitely get this again!
Tumblr media
To make ourselves feel a little healthier after the fried chicken and the bacon mochi, we went for the crudites for something a little fresher.  It came with an edamame hummous that was a little different but exactly what we were looking for in terms of freshness and a bunch of crispy veg.
Tumblr media
This was our kimchi stonepot. It’s a little like just a potato and vegetable stew that comes with a bowl of rice, essentially a vegetarian jiggae. Flavour was good and not bad for a cold winter’s day if you are looking for something to warm you up but I think I still like my jiggae’s with some seafood or meat.
Tumblr media
It definitely came piping hot! The pot basically had a rolling boil even 5 minutes after it arrived at the table!
Tumblr media
On the side, we had some “white kimchi”.  Not sure if this is a Korean thing or just another way of saying pickled veg but either way, it was sharp, crunchy and refreshing.
Tumblr media
Then just to hammer home the fusion nature of this place (if the parmesan on the fried chicken hadn’t made the point), our main was pork neck al pastor tacos. It came with ssamjang and a chilli relish along with some asian slaw. I’ve definitely never had tacos at a Korean restaurant before but these were pretty impressive! The pork was flavourful and tender and the ssamjang and asian slaw actually brought together the dish quite nicely.
Tumblr media
So the place is on the top floor of Kingly Court off Carnaby street so super convenient location. For me, it seems a great place to take a break from some shopping and get  bite, even if it’s just to get a bacon mochi!
Korean Dinner Party, Top floor Kingly Court, Kingly Street, Carnaby, London, W1B 5PW
