i cant believe how gay all of this fucking show is. sns is bringing me to the brink of insanity what do you mean they married women and never kissed as adults but continued to pine after each other and stare at each other longingly and only be comfortable in each other’s presence and be each other’s first priority even before their own children and be willing to die for each other at any given moment and give up their dreams for each other an-

i love taking a character that is flawed (derogatory) in canon and making them flawed (affectionate) just for fun, but then i forget that my silly little versions of them are not the versions that everyone else knows. which i think leads to misconceptions about me. because when i say i like jiraiya? i do not mean kishimoto’s nasty pervert old man.
i mean jiraiya 2.0 who still writes porn and is a flirt but doesn’t peep on people at hot springs or sexually harass teenagers (seriously kishimoto, we gotta talk about why you felt the need to include this shit in ur story).

Kishimoto literally could have let Sakura have sage mode but just didn't
Like, she has near perfect Chakra control, why couldn't we have seen her messing around with senjustu like Naruto?
So, if Kishimoto hadn't been a coward, what do you think Sakura's Slug Sage Mode would have looked like?
I have actually wondered about this many times and tried to come up with something myself a few other times... This was my favorite so far~

ShikaTema is the Best Love Story in All of Naruto.
Okay, so Kishimoto and Ikemoto might do better with Boruto. However, as far as Naruto is concerned, ShikaTema is the best love story hands down. Let me explain.
Naruto x Hinata - Naruto spent 19 years either being oblivious to Hinata's existence or thinking she was weird.
Sasuke x Sakura - This relationship was so abusive that it was borderline criminal. I'm glad it's better now. I like Sarada, but Sasuke did not deserve a wife.
Sai x Ino - This is one of the better love stories. They kind of hit it off from the beginning in a lot of ways. However, aside from the light novel, we don't know much about it.
Asuma x Kurenai - Also, one of the better love stories, but we kind of just saw that they were together one day. Then before we know it, Asuma dies before the birth of his daughter.
Minato x Kushina - Another one of the better love stories. However, we were kind of rushed through the love story, because their entire love story was told in the past for obvious reasons.
Obito x Rin - I guess this is a good love story. I mean it almost ended in the destruction of the ENTIRE world, and Rin was in love with Kakashi the entire time, but what can you do? Did Rin and Obito end up together romantically? I have no idea. In death, Obito reverted back to his 13-14 year old self and spent eternity with 13-14 year old Rin. Yes, that's kind of romantic, but let's be honest, they can only be so romantic before it just becomes creepy and inappropriate (assuming the never age).
Now, the big one: Shikamaru x Temari.
I mean one could argue that this love story began with Temari fought Ten Ten. It was the first time Shikamaru noticed Temari. He took one look at her, and said that she had already beat Ten Ten. Naruto asked Shikamaru how he knew that, and Shikamaru said that he would not tell Naruto if Naruto couldn't figure it out himself.
Shikamaru vs Temari is the first time that Temari noticed Shikamaru, and she was utterly unimpressed with him until the very end of the fight when she realized that she was about 2 seconds for losing if Shikamaru had larger chakra reserves. From that point on, Shikamaru was never far from her mind.
Fast forward, these two lovely characters don't see each other again until Temari has to save Shikamaru from Tayuya. Shikamaru underestimates Temari's abilities, and Temari effortless kills Tayuya with her wind scythe jutsu. After seeing this, Shikamaru compares Temari to his mother.
This is important, because earlier, Shikamaru had asked his father why he married his mother, and Shikamaru's dad was basically like, "A good woman can change you."
Aside from a broken finger, Shikamaru visits the hospital to see how his severely injured friends are doing. Temari scolds him for being too emotional, because it seems as though Shikamaru is about to give up.
Shikamaru's like, "I don't need all this smoke." He gets up to leave, and his father is basically like, "You coward, are you going to let this woman talk to you crazy and all your comrades die in the future."
Shikamaru starts crying and this is the first time we see Temari show genuine concern and empathy for Shikamaru.
The next episode, I believe, Shikamaru is the one to see Temari and her brothers off from the Leaf Village as they head back to the sand.
Now, I'm going to fast forward to Shippuden. Yes, there's a filler arc in which Shikamaru saves Temari from another wind user. Upon returning to the Leaf, I believe Temari helps Shikamaru in the ninja academy with the students, and Shikamaru sees off the Sand Sibling again. You get the point.
Moving onto Shippuden, the first time we see Shikamaru in the village, we see him with Temari. Naruto keenly asks if the two of them are dating. Both Shikamaru and Temari think the assertion is hilarious, but it's actually pretty accurate.
Why, because without going through an entire play by play of every time Shikamaru and Temari were together in Shippuden, I will say this. If there's a Naruto episode with Temari in it, there's about an 80-90% that Shikamaru will be in that episode too, and that he will interact with Temari in some way.
For example, the war arc episode in which Konohamaru challenged Temari to a fight. Shikamaru did not need to be in that episode. Yet, Moegi and Udon went and found Shikamaru, so that Shikamaru could break up the fight. That was when Shikamaru said how scary Temari actually was.
There's even a shot little bonus video in which Shikamaru said, "What if it was Shikamaru Shippuden instead of Naruto Shippuden?" The an opening screen appears on the screen, and there's a silhouette of Shikamaru and Temari on the opening screen.
Temari is a long distance combat specialist. I feel that Shikamaru is mid-distance at best, but yet, both of them were in the same exact campaign during the war, and where was Temari? She was standing right next to Shikamaru.
When Shikamaru got caught up in the infinite genjustu, he dreamt of Temari by his side as they mutually agreed that marriage sucks.
My point is, as I skip a ton of points, Kishimoto had built up a relationship between these two characters for nearly 20 years. Mind you, that these characters DO NOT live in the same village. Temari has very little screen time. She has so little screen time, that she has a new outfit dang near every other time that we see her. However, the majority of the screen time she does have is with Shikamaru. The relationship between these two was set long before the light novels from Shikamaru were even considered.

this is possibly an insane thought but posts about tori and making minato-soup have caused it to get stuck in my head: what would happen if you took water from suigetsu/mangetsu and made soup with it. do they NEED all of their /own/ water to shlorp back into human form? or can they just... replace it with other water. if part of them got turned into broth and then got mixed back in with them, what would happen. i guarantee you kishimoto never considered this, because he is a coward
this question has actually been bothering me for ages. not for soup purposes but for like.... normal life purposes. has karin ever flushed suigetsu's leg down the toilet. did they have to go on a sewer field trip to get it or did the suigetsu leg water slither back up. did he get an infection or can he kick out the non-suigetsu parts. what if he just came back together smaller
iirc in canon he has to drink a lot of water, so i'd guess that he can lose "water weight" to minor splish-splash and be fine. idk what happens if you make him into soup. maybe if you cook him enough he turns back into meat

ROUND THREE
ROCK LEE vs HYUUGA NEJI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reasons for submission under the cut
Lee
ROCK LEE VS GAARA
kind as can be; willing to jump to action to help his fellow comrades even after going through a life-threatening, major surgery
practical and fashion-forward with his bright green onesie. Function over form, and is prepared at all times by carrying around a spare onesie he will give without question to anyone - even complete strangers
has a surprising edge to him at the beginning of the series; he was ready to severely maim anybody that he saw as a genius
more dedicated than anyone. Was forced to face his own mortality and make a life-or-death decision in the name of his dream, after a literal crushing defeat, and he chose to fight for it. Inspiring
embodies the ideals of original series Naruto. True underdog, had nothing going for him, came from nothing with no legacy or powers, was so disadvantaged that he physically could not meet the bare minimum abilities of his peers. But he worked harder than everyone else and proved that he can be a great shinobi despite all the adversity he faced
Sasuke had to copy Lee’s moves with his Sharingan to succeed during Chuunin exams
cute as a button. Come on.
his fans are dedicated and make amazing work, fanart and fanfic
Kishimoto said he was his favorite character to draw. Boom. Favoritism. Love to see it.
pairs well with everyone. Platonic or romantic, Lee has a great dynamic with other characters
his summer outfit from Guardian of the Crescent Moon Kingdom was the best outfit in the movie
gave us Metal Lee! Blessed us with Metal Lee, really
was the character to beat in the early series if you wanted to show how strong you actually are
Gaara vs Rock Lee was one of the most iconic fights in the series, and everyone remembers where they were when they first saw Lee drop his weights. He owned that fight so hard that people forget he lost.
was wronged by the series. He deserves to win as justice.
got [submitter] personally through the worst times; his ability to persevere face of adversity convinced me I could do it too. He wasn’t special and neither was [submitter], but we didn’t need to be. We can make ourselves great. If no one else got me, Rock Lee’s got me
he’s one of the first non-jutsu using ninja so make such a big impact
was the first person to actually harm Gaara
played a huge part in Gaara becoming a better person
he’s one of the only people that can catch up to Sasuke and easily rivals Naruto in Taijutsu
his kind, determined and cheerful attitude is a joy to watch
Rock Lee removing his weights is easily one of the most iconic moments in the entire anime
has helped several submitters feel better by simply thinking about how he wouldn’t want them to think like that
objectively would’ve made a better protagonist based on the themes alone
KICKS MAJOR ASS
wrecked Sasukes shit, I like Sasuke but that was really funny
he looks like a frog. Who doesn’t like frogs
inspired Sasuke
fights are always entertaining, they’re very well choreographed
he forgave Gaara for nearly killing him and nearly ending his dreams; he was never even mad at him
Rock Lee vs Sasuke was iconic
his heart is so full of love
never did anything wrong
had a squirrel befriend him
hard worker
good friend
rises to any challenge
when he does diss people they are the most brutal yet entertaining disses you ever hear
positive, weirdo, energetic, enthusiastic, joyful, chivalrous, motivated, dedicated, sweet
Lee and Neji had something homosexual going on
YOUTH !!!!
Neji
very tragic character
has so many layers
has a great arc (if you ignore the. yknow)
the eye imagery is very good
the inherent queerness of rebellion
carried the Hyuuga clan
awesome hair
disrecpected by the narrative
could've easily been a revolutionanist if the mangaka wasn't a coward

would you recommend reading naruto? i'm beginning to want context for the various konoha plots and shenanigans that befall you so very often
Since the dawn of time, humans have wondered :  should you read Naruto? Many people's answer (cowards) was a flippant  "don't watch Naruto". I think we can do better.
I think the way to ensure everyone has a good time is to make a list of why people watch naruto and what is enjoyable abt it or not and let you decide for yourself if you should watch it or not. This is not a review of naruto or an opinion piece on whether it is good or not.
Let's start with the bad parts :)
-Kishimoto's politics. Without too much spoiler, most of the bad parts of the system in Naruto will in fact just stay as is.
-The animation. Studio Pierrot does its job and there are some genuinely really good moments but i won't try and sell you Naruto on its animation. It's fine.
-The story. Kishimoto's politics and writing capabilities simply could not handle a story going on for more than 10 years lol!
Reasons people watch or read Naruto anyway:
-Shonen brain. It is genuinely very fun to see characters use powers of escalating magnitude to fight against each other with cool sounds and visuals and strategies. Many fights in naruto are great to watch, including those at the end too. I believe you are a touhou enjoyer ? i think you will like this. yippe adrenaline etc. the fights are good in the manga as well.
-The art. This is especially relevant if you're going to read it instead of watch as your ask suggests, the art in naruto is lovely! It's very endearing to see the evolution of it too, from the earlier more scratchy scrappy style to the more polished. It's a very idk... balanced type of art? just enough lines.
-The music. This is only relevant if you decide to watch it but the music really is so so good and iconic. And of course the endings and openings....
-Worldbuilding. Many fun settings and lore :)
-The characters. There are abt 56435675867 gajillions characters and groups of people and you Will find someone to get attached too.
-Of course, the most important part of any work that people get involved with, its actual badness. Some vague notion of "potential" gets people invested, and they start posting when that potential doesn't get realised. This potential can start from nostalgia, investment in a character who never gets developed, hope that kishi would have better politics or a better ending, trying to correct things, or just the desire to explore a world you like! Naruto functions best as a sandbox, which is the conclusion of this post I guess. If you would like to get involved, you will probably like it. If not, probably not. Hope this helps :)

Naruto almost got killed trying to protect Sasuke from Orochimaru in the forest of death. Sasuke never moved. He stayed still the whole time. He could have fought but he did not. As soon as Sakura told Sasuke to move he immediately moved. He would not have moved without her so it is a lie that she is useless. If only Naruto was there Sasuke and Naruto would have died because he stayed still even after Naruto was uncounscious and pinned to a tree. Naruto needed Sakura. Naruto almost dying was not enough for Sasuke but Sakura's words affected him. They made him shake. Saying Sasuke didn't move because of her and did not think about her is a lie because she mentioned the word coward and then he thought of Itachi's exact words saying coward in the next panel. That is how linear progression works in manga. There is no coincidence. She was not just background noise. Kishimoto did it intentionally. Sakura should have gotten credit for changing Sasuke's heart and goals from Orochimaru, not Naruto. If he wanted to just create drama and show Sasuke moved because of Naruto he would not make Sakura say anything and just show him move because of Naruto. Every panel means something. You talk about sasusaku happening because of Naruto but without Sakura, you would not even have your ship. There is no panel that proves he would have moved without thinking about Itachi's words like Sakura helped him to. She understands him.
You literally send this mostly same exact rant to @sneezemonster15 just a while ago. Do you have nothing better to do than waste our time? And we have both talked about this exact moment before. Not that you care, you just want to be annoying.
Anyway here was my answer with the nice addition from @narutouzumakiarchive.

Biggest arguments from sasusaku are
The scene of Sasuke saving Sakura was romantic coded and had leaves falling in the background. It's a typical romance trope of a guy protecting his love from danger and threatening the bad guys. He's never been that angry with Naruto getting hurt. It means she was saving his heart. Kishimoto only picked her to stop his curse mark. Kishimoto only picked her for Sasuke to to get angry about when other teammates were there and hurt.
Sasuke specifically thought of Sakura's lips on the rooftop and in the hospital when he was jealous of Naruto. He had a sad face when he saw Sakura smiling about Naruto. Manga is a visual language. It was done with intent. He could have shown Sasuke only jealous of Naruto without thinking about Sakura's smile and lips. He did it to show Sasuke was jealous because he loves Sakura. He is attracted to her.
Are you SS? 😮‍💨 I have addressed all of these before in other posts and you are wrong about every single one of them. Keep your big words, linear storytelling it seems.. Lol. If you understood storytelling AT ALL, like for real, you would not give any credit to SS. Lol. That's all I want to say to this ask. I don't want to be confrontational, it takes a lot of energy. And this ask doesn't deserve any of it.

answer the ultimate question: is oda a leftist? has he realized it yet with the main theme literally being "marginalized and working-class folks get together and destroy empires by means of armed struggle"? or is it just coincidence? like i would not call kishimoto leftist, but i would oda
You want the serious answer or the joke answer?
Oda has a Che Guevara poster in his studio and had Castro as an inspiration for Dragon. One Piece has a lot of narratives surrounding corrupt governments, slavery, oppression, anti war sentiment and when war is actually necessary and class struggle. Unfortunately he also falls into a lot of liberal traps. Fishman Island is the bigger example of that. And the fact that he never - in One Piece - antagonizes the concept of monarchy but rather poses good monarchs against bad monarchs. I wanna break a spear in favour of this and say it's because of the "fantasy" setting that he doesn't feel the need to tackle with the whole concept of monarchy. I'm a lot less inclined to forgive the very bad oppression narrative of Fishman Island. I think it would have been more forgivable if Otohime wasn't a thing. And Kalgara and Noland backstory is just white man savior 101.
I read a post a few weeks ago that poses One Piece vs Naruto exactly by this, I'll screenshot it because they put it into words better than I could
Tumblr media
So, is Oda a leftist. Mmmmh, I'd say he's probably a good hearted left leaning liberal. His fascination with Che and Castro is probably not different from the fascination a lot of liberals have with them (the more "palatable" revolutionaries compared to Lenin and Mao - unless you ask someone from Florida). The good guys in One Piece are pirates and revolutionaries VS the marines and the world government but he never goes as deep as I'd like him to or as he could. One Piece is more "leftist" than Naruto because the basis of it allowes the story to be.
The joke answer is that Oda is voted to the immortal science of Marxism-Lenininism but the cowards at Shonen Jump keep censoring him

You’re entitled to your opinion and it is such a relief to know there’s someone else out there who’s sick of people totally misunderstanding friendships.
Also it’s annoying when people act like their headcanon/fantasy is what actually happened in the story. Sorry, Naruto and Sasuke are not gay, they did not secretly yearn to fuck each other over their years of separation, stop calling people homophobes for not sharing your desire to reduce them to gay sex and being irritated that you don’t appreciate the bond that the author wrote them to have. (Also Kishimoto wrote them to be attracted to women whether people like it or not)
Or at least I’d say that if I was brave. I’m a coward. But I wanted you to know you aren’t the only one sick of those things.
There’s little of us nowadays. If not, then majority of us are scared of getting lashed out on for not agreeing with somebody’s idea or genuinely questioning why they think of the characters the way they do.
We, the people who don’t twist male friendship into romance or sexual relationship, get bashed for just restating the canons. If they say, for example, “Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru are only best friends”, there will be a line of people ready to throw insults, attacks, and even slurs your way…
…but the thing is, they might as well as throw them towards the author himself or the characters themselves, because both the author and characters have repeatedly reminded readers throughout the journey that it is friendship.
And frankly, in a way, it is misogynistic to straight up believe that males cannot have deep bonds and they’re only capable of shallow friendships or no friendship. They will scream about “men should be capable of expressing feelings”, and the second the men do so, they will follow up with this toxic ideology.
The entire Naruto and Sasuke thing used to get to me but now it’s straight up funny and bizarre. Considering Sasuke genuinely tried to kill Naruto repeatedly, was jealous, and held natural hatred towards him already obliterates the ship itself, but the fact that both Naruto and Sasuke (and Madara and Hashirama) were in a way reincarnations of two brothers, Indura and Ashura. If not, then Hagoromo himself made connections with them to his sons. The entire show’s existence literally started with two brothers, and Hagoromo wanted it to end with two synonyms of the brothers. If that’s also not enough, take the characters’ words themselves—Sasuke states Naruto was his only friend, and Naruto states Sasuke is like his brother. Also, Naruto itself revolved around teamwork and unique, deep, and strong friendships. A proof could be that Kishimoto miserably failed to create good romance in Naruto Series (cough, Sasuke and Sakura but that’s another story) considering how much time he spent trying to explain the depth of Naruto and Sasuke’s friendship.
We aren’t homophobes for restating these things. Again, might as well as call the characters or authors homophobes. And as much as they’d like to deny it, an insane amount of insane people do in fact fetishize gay relationships and turn it weirdly and oddly sexual.
I’m not really afraid to speak for these things or preach canon, because majority of the fucking time, when they really don’t have anything to say back in a discussion (not even an argument), they resort to one of the two things; personal sob story/connections, or, attack, insult, and run.
We all should stick together and overcome this baffling toxicity. Lots of love ( ^∀^)!
