The Massacre of the Priory of the Nine

Sir Lathon recounts the resurrection of the Divine Crusader.

Not long after we had interred the Crusader in the undercroft, there came a murmuring and the shifting of stone— Sir Thedret was the first to investigate, quickly hurrying down. I cautiously followed him. Thedret sounded overjoyed, "A miracle, ser knight! You live!" he cried.

Their companion, who even in death refused to leave their side, quietly eased them from the sarcophagus. I watched in awe as they stepped from their tomb, still adorned in wilted laurel wreaths and Arkayn charms.

The Crusader rasped her name, once weakly, then louder. Their gaze set on Sir Thedret, and wickedly proclaimed:

Upon us is the hour of my coming, Ezimar, Second Prince of Corruption. My darling, I command thee to feast!

My awe quickly morphed into horror as the Crusader's companion changed her very shape, her arms splintering into four clawed limbs of dark sinew and horns bursting from her skin. Her face seemed to split at the jaw, and I turned and fled as quickly as I could.

Thedret hardly had time to cry out before his flesh and bones were sundered by the daedroth's teeth.

Every candle and torch in the Priory danced in gouts of blue flame as I ran, so much as to scorch my face as I burst from the doors. The screams of my fellow knights filled the air as their very souls were devoured in the cold pyre.

The Prince of Corruption emerged from the flames and the relics they were buried in were nowhere to be seen. They seemed to float towards me, leaving a trail of embers in their wake.

As I cowered, I heard them say, "Rise, Sir Lathon. Listen and obey."

The terror that gripped me somehow softened and I stood.

They continued, "You will tell anyone who will listen what happened here tonight. You will tell them the Second Prince has risen again."

The Prince held my face, and pressed a stinging kiss to my brow. Darkness overcame my vision and I awoke at dawn in the ashes of the Priory.

Though Ezimar was nowhere to be seen, an unholy shadow was cast across Tamriel on that day. I pray the Nine will keep and guide us through the coming quagmire, though I fear it may not be enough.

i thought i was done writing for my oblivion character but decided "actually no it can be better" and now im rearranging stuff, adding stuff, and reworking stuff

more specifically trying to rework why the FUCK my silly little swordsman and archer boy would attend the arcane university

i first only did it bc i wanted an excuse to see janus hassildor. but i have since grown attached to my outfit concept for my character while at the university, the songs i chose for that part of the story in my playlist, and MOST IMPORTANTLY the thought of him and lucien getting up to college shenanigans (lucien joins my character on his adventures at this point in the story bc i said so)

so taking it out completely and having another character do that questline is out of the question, so now i have to try and make this make sense (it never will)

I'm on a little bit of a K'Rin kick, so I'll do this for her. (I know this is supposed to be a Skyrim thing, but IMO most of the questions are generic enough I can make it about Oblivion)

Favourite tavern

Rin doesn't drink (ignoring that one time in Aleswell), and with a Guild chapter in each town she rarely needs to use an inn's bed.

But at a push, she'd say the Cheydinhal Bridge Inn. It's cosy, clean, and Mariana Ancharia runs a respectable business.

Favourite drink

Some kind of fruit juice (apple, blackberry, tomato) or small beer (a la what IRL medieval peasants would have drunk).

Travelling companion

None. After the events during the Knights of the Nine, Rin cannot stand the idea of losing anyone else like that.

When Raminus mentions it might be beneficial for the apprentice wizards to accompany her, she baulks at the idea of dragging one into danger - if Geimund, a trained warrior, didn't survive, then what hope for an untrained welp?

This also hits home when she meets the Adoring Fan. She's unnecessarily rude to him in an attempt to dissuade him from following her.

Wealthy or not

As a skilled alchemist, Rin has a healthy income (when time allows), however most of her income goes to keeping her enchanted items charged or feeding the poor. I'd put her on the lower end of comfortable.

Worships the aedra or the daedra

Aedra, with a primary focus on Mara, and secondary focuses on Zenithar and Stendarr. Part of this is how she was raised, but part of this is after a lot of self-reflection during the Knights of the Nine pilgrimages she performs.

Biggest fear

That she's met her biological parents... and killed one or both in self-defence. There is nothing to indicate who they were, she might even only be half-redguard. Rin has no idea. The first time she was attacked at a camp by a redguard woman, Rin had nightmares about it for ages, the "what if" sending her into a nosedive.

Pet peeves

When people are unduly rude to beggars. In her early days, she was too timid to do anything about them but made up for other people's rudeness by pressing food, medicines and money into the beggar's hands. As she gained fame, Rin became bolder about confronting these types of people.

Do they like being Hero of Kvatch/ Champion of Cyrodiil?

She is ambivalent about both titles.

Jauffre asked her to do a task; that task entailed closing an Oblivion Gate, so she did so. It's nothing really to make a fuss about, but people will do so regardless of what she wants, so she may as well be gracious about it.

Similarly, she isn't keen on being Champion, but she understands duty; and her duty is to support Ocato and the Elder Council in their efforts to rebuild Cyrodiil. Her thoughts are always with the common folk, keeping peace and remaining compassionate to their issues; literally being their champion. She thinks that's what Martin would have wanted.

Favourite faction

Perhaps surprisingly, it's the Thieves Guild. She strongly admires the Grey Fox's commitment to protecting the poor of each city and his "robin hood" approach to thievery.

An object of sentimental value

I've struggled with this question a lot. I've kept plenty of knickknacks from my playthrough, but none of what I've kept has seemed like something Rin would keep. And she has nothing to tie her to her old life either, except the house in Bravil.

I may come up with something later, but for now, I'll say she's too practical, and not sentimental enough to keep a specific item.

Hobbies

"Hob-bee? Hobb- No. Nope, sorry. Is that Ayleidoon?" Rin is too serious for her own good. Her "hobbies" include doing alchemy, running through her martial practice, and chatting with her fellow Blades.

Favourite city

She still retains a lot of love for her home of Bravil, but it's Anvil that has her heart. It's warm, the scenery (when she takes time to explore it properly) is beautiful, the food outstanding, and the people friendly. It's restive and tranquil; an easy place to love.

(But between you, me, and the walls, her favourite place in Cyrodiil is the West Weald)

One neat thing about how fans portray Bretons is that they'll occasionally add a slight point to their ears which is great but one thing I see less of that should also be done is Imperials with a slight point to their ears and/or a wide array of skintones considering they're often portrayed as being more open to interracial marriages.

Modern Bretons as a whole are mostly Mannish save for nobles that inbreed maintain elven looks, Imperials on the other hand likely have a much wider pool of genetics to draw from.

I would say some "cozy" essentials include:

A relaxed-fit crewneck sweatshirt

A soft tank/tee shirt

A zip fleece polo sweatshirt

Relaxed fit sweat shorts

Flared/bootcut/straight-leg sweatpants

A matching sweatsuit

A well-fitting pair of thick black leggings

Neutral-colored tennis dress/biketard

Fleece bomber jacket

I recommend getting them in all in neutral colors or matching the tops/bottoms for a monochrome look. Try pairing them with crewneck white socks and sneakers for a more polished look.
