Hey y’all um. Can I please rant about my favorite Les Mis fanfic pretty pls
the What Streak of Madness series (beginning with A Change of a Bizarre Kind) by M_Moonshade was the first Les Mis fanfic I ever read and to this day it is my absolute favorite. Ive reread it a thousand times and it never gets old
basically, it’s a retelling/crossover between Les Mis and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (dw you don’t need to know a lot about that story, what you need to know is in the description/notes) where basically Javert takes a potion that releases his darkest impulses, including his extreme attraction to the mayor
it’s extremely well written, author has fantastic writing style
we get tender moments, we get angsty moments, we get smutty moments
very fun smut, bottom javert
mystery and intrigue!! ooo!
multiple “books” in the series that expand on the story/the boys relationship
Fantine is alive! And a Girlboss!!
the characters are very well done, author had a really good understanding of the characters
and it has a happy ending!!
yeah anyways I love it so much go read it if your interested <3

Pairing: Enjolras & Courfeyrac & Combeferre Words: 5,863 Chapters: 1/1 Rating: General
Fic Summary: When rumours of the development first surfaced, Enjolras, Combeferre, and Courfeyrac knew that they were going to have their work cut out for them in opposing it. They had always been good at galvanising each other into action and that’s exactly what they did. Enjolras instructed, Combeferre educated, and Courfeyrac rallied. The three of them together inspired more, and then more, and then even more, until a veritable network of allies lay in front of them.
They’d looked at each other, that night after their very first meeting; looked at each other and looked at all the work ahead of them and vowed to face whatever challenges lay ahead in the only way they knew how: together.
***
Or, a fic about the importance of friendship and the beauty of resistance.
My @lesmisholidayexchange piece for @combeauferre!

I need help finding a fic i read ages ago- it was an ao3 enjolras/grantaire fic where the entire les amis squad were reborn constantly, and grantaire would be the only one to remember and he'd always find enjolras. He'd paint the different versions of him, and the version depicted in the fic was doing something protest related, and grantaire joined with the excuse that he was studying sociology-
That's all I remember of the fic, and I can't find it in my own bookmarks ^^

Chapters: 1/1 Relationships: Grantaire/Jean Prouvaire Ratng: Mature Additional Tags: Tropes, Friends With Benefits, Forced Proximity, Tragic Romance, Alternate Universe - Hackers, Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms, Bittersweet Summary:
Jehan and Grantaire are hacktivists running away from the cops. Forced into hiding, they spend months together in a basement with nothing but each other’s company. Everything goes smoothly at the beginning, until they both give in to their attraction for each other and decide to sleep together. Is there a future for them outside that basement?
10 years ago, destiny and a frankly bad written jetaire fanfic brought a wonderful person into my life who changed me for the better.
I love you, @demonsonthemoon! This is a weird gift to celebrate our day. Happy 10th anniversary!

jami’s whumptober 2023 masterlist
(i finished the planning phase way faster than i thought) (more warnings for each fic will be tagged individually on the actual works, beloveds <3)
swooning/“how many fingers am i holding up?” | jcs | judas never thought joining jesus would result in him being exposed to so many unsightly things (lol i decided to start the month on a more fluffy/humorous note bc these get… dark).
"i'll call out your name, but you won't call back" | hamilton | alexander chases after phantoms
“make it stop” | jcs | something unshakable befalls judas the week of passover.
“you in there?” | hamilton | alexander is left in an unreachable state while john and washington are left to deal.
debris/pinned down | hamilton | alexander has to cope with the aftermath of a terrible battlefield injury.
recording | jcs | the aftermath of judas’ suicide (modern)
“can you hear me?” | hamilton | alexander has a one-sided conversation.
outnumbered | hamilton | that washington fic that’s been sitting in drafts for months.
mistaken identity | jcs | judas is mistaken for someone he couldn’t possibly be.
“can’t you see you’re lost without me? | hamilton | hamburr angst. just hamburr angst. you’re welcome. (sponsored by crys)
animal trap | hamilton | self explanatory
red | jcs | judas has a secret. a very big secret.
“i don’t feel so good.” | hamilton | when philip falls ill while eliza is away, alexander is left spiraling.
water inhalation | hamilton | alexander can handle anything. he can handle insults. he can handle pain. but somehow, they managed to find the one thing he can’t stomach.
suppressed suffering | jcs | the judas hidden injury fic.
“would you lie with me, and just forget the world?” | hamilton | hamburr. alex and aaron share one night as they sit on the brink of the war.
“leave me alone.” | jcs | jesus and judas have an argument that ends worse than others.
tortured for information | hamilton | just another classic prisoner of war fic. y’all know the drill atp :))) (only it’s not with who you think 👀👀)
psychological | les mis | an off handed comment sends marius spiraling through doors he thought long to be closed. les amis de l'ABC are left to pick up the pieces.
found family | jcs | judas has a choice to make when someone from his past resurfaces.
vows | hamilton | aaron vowed to keep their daughter safe.
(alt prompt) drugging | hamilton | the redcoats decide to test out a new sort of weapon on alexander.
shadows | hamilton | the schuyler mansion is overtaken by the enemy.
“i thought he was with you” | jcs | after a riot breaks out, no one can find jesus.
“you’re not delivering a perfect body to the grave.” | jcs | mary prepares for two burials.
working to exhaustion/“you look awful” | hamilton | alexander and aaron both throw themselves into a trial. it would be a lot easier if they could focus on only that instead of each other. (sponsored by xen)
scars/“let me see” | jcs | (judas lives au) jesus comes back and judas can barely stomach the weight of his sins (this was originally based off a nightmare i had and it’s… the darkest thing i’ve ever written. definitely a hat on a hat on a hat trauma wise. be careful with this one, friends.)
(alt prompt) hunting | hamilton | alexander could hear the thundering of footsteps, the bark of their hounds. he only ran faster.
troubled past resurfacing | jcs | the group finds out things they never expected from judas.
borrowed clothing | les mis | marius struggles to get on his feet after leaving his grandfather’s estate.
emptiness | hamilton | alexander reflects on all the suffering he’s endured. (I WENT META LMAOOOOO)

A time of Making Peace ( Cosette/Ghost Eponine Making peace )
Okay so on the night before Marius and Cosette's wedding
Eponine's ghost came to visit Cosette in her chamber
Cosette was happily preparing for going to bed for the big day tomorrow, when Eponine's ghost appeared before her
Cosette : * jumps in startlement *
Eponine : Don't be afraid! * pauses * I only come in peace.
Cosette : * heaves a sigh of relief and smooths her white night gown * Oh, bonsoir, Eponine
Eponine : I only come in peace. And glad tidings. Congratulations on you and Marius getting married. I really mean it.
Cosette looked at Eponine's face, which bore no fear or resentment. But one of peace and genuine congratulations
Eponine : And......* voice cracks * Thank you so much, for me and Gavroche to be able to get to Heaven, away from those MONSTERS.
Cosette : * smiles * So I presume....
Eponine : Yes. Damned to eternal hell. Your mother confirmed that to me
Cosette : My mother.....?
Eponine : She's like you, but with blonde hair. She's just.....she is an angel. * took a deep breath * Another thing is.....I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for all the times Zelma and I bullied you, so sorry for how I may get between you and Marius' happiness. Those monsters driven me and my siblings to the point of no return and you helped SAVED US. YOU are the reason why 3 of my siblings are able to have better lives, and I'm so sorry - can you ever -
Cosette : * softly * I already have
Eponine :.....What?
Cosette : Eponine dear, I understand that you have acknowledged our sad history together as little girls. However, I came to understand that you and your siblings are more misguided than anything else. It was those monsters who are evil, and I already knew they will be damned to Hell for some time. So I'm glad that justice is served onto those wicked souls. Why else would I help you and your siblings escape from those abusers? I do not care for our sorry history together - no one deserves such level of cruelty. Nobody does
Eponine : * labored breaths * So it is true! You also helped us! Some of your rebel friends also told us before! But....why I never heard anything from you about it before?
Cosette : I simply done such deeds out of good will. I do not ask for any repayment for such actions. Even with our sad histories, I cannot bear to see one another having suffered a similar cruelty as I did.
Eponine :......* shaking in gratitude * Merci infinitement, Cosette.
Cosette : And......I'm so sorry too. If I had known how cruel those abusers gave become to you and your siblings, I would have - I would have done something earlier! Those horrible 8 years - oh how come I never thought of that before? When I saw you again for the first time in 8 years, I knew what were you going through -
Eponine : I don't blame you about it. We were children then, and didn't know any better. But now we know. We are not little girls anymore. You and Marius shall be Wed tomorrow....
Cosette : And you and Gavroche found peace in Heaven, which I am very glad. * beams *
Eponine : * smiles * May you and Marius shall have the most blessed of days together
Cosette : * beams * And may you and Gavroche shall find prosperity in Heaven, and do send my regards to my mother. Tell her that I shall be Wed to the man of my dreams tomorrow.
Eponine : * nods in surety * You have my word
Cosette and ghost Eponine embrace

Something of a scholar
My @drinkwithme-exchange fic for @schroedingers-draht! Hope you enjoy!
The Café Lemblin was, in a word, sweltering. Even with the windows open, the breeze blowing in was a sticky one characteristic of July, and the old proprietress refused to extinguish the roaring fire even at Grantaire’s most persuasive requests. It was a good place to go in the winter, when the world outside is achingly cold and nothing sounds better than a mug of coffee in your hands.
And even in the balmy days of July, Jean Prouvaire was always cold, so this initially seemed like just his place.
“What’s the matter, Jehan?”
But, as often, Grantaire’s young friend was quite unreachable. Jehan Prouvaire never seemed to notice the world around him half as much as he did his own thoughts. He looked even odder today than usual: sunburnt to a crisp, with a tawny, girlish braid rapidly coming undone and a kelly-green waistcoat that looked to have been thrown around him in haste. Such was the fashion sense of this type of dreamer.
“Prouvaire, did you hear me?”
“Hm? Did you say something, R?”
Grantaire only laughed. “Nothing of importance, my friend,” he said, shifting to be closer, “just asking what was on your mind. It’s always something entertaining, isn’t it?”
“I suppose,” Jehan sighed. “Though it’s more melancholy than usual this evening.”
“How so?”
He sighed again, a little softer this time, but did not answer. Instead, he opted to gaze out the open window.
“You know, it’s not polite to accompany your friend to one of Paris’s best cafés only to-”
“Today is July 25th, isn’t it?”
“Er- yes, I think so. Why?”
He turned back to Grantaire and met his eyes, for the first time this whole evening.
“Today is the anniversary of the death of André Chenier.”
Grantaire took a moment to peruse his memories- Chenier as a name certainly sounded familiar, but if he was being honest, his mind was coming up quite empty.
“You’ll have to remind me of who that is.”
Jehan looked almost hurt. “The one who wrote De Nuit, la Nymphe Errante, don’t you remember? Et sa plainte amère excite leur risée?”
Still no recollection, and it clearly showed. Jehan turned towards the window once more, refusing to meet Grantaire’s eyes.
“I’m sorry, my friend. I don’t think I’ve ever read any of his work.”
His own eyes light up. “Really?”
“Almost positive.”
“Oh, you’d love him! There’s a compilation of some of his work by De La Touche. I’d be happy to lend you my copy- he has some fantastic metaphors in Jeune Captive that I think you’d…”
The Café Lemblin was stiflingly hot. Grantaire’s coffee was cooling down already, and it was just a bit sweeter than he liked it. Even so, just for this moment, he was perfectly happy to listen to his friend’s daydreams.
“…And do you know, he was from- Grantaire?”
“You’re awfully smart, do you know that?”
Jehan kept his eyes down, as always, but Grantaire could clearly see his wide smile.
Quite a nice way to spend an afternoon, isn’t it?

Pairing: Enjolras/Grantaire
Words: 8792
Chapters: 3/?
Fic Summary: Grantaire has never met Enjolras before; he doesn’t  know anything about the man other than his job title and the fact that  he is, as of today, Grantaire’s designated ride-share partner in their company’s new environmental initiative. He just hopes the two of them can get along well enough to survive the half-hour journey to work and back.
(Or: the ride-share AU that started out as a shitpost in the Discorinthe discord server and somehow turned into another multichapter fic featuring found-family, politics, and plenty of pining.)
IN THIS CHAPTER: Grantaire gradually learns more of Les Amis de l'ABC and it's not long before Enjolras is able to cajole him into coming to a meeting. For better or for worse, Grantaire decides to give this whole 'activism' thing a go.

This is a very late birthday offering for @aflamethatneverdies Happy late birthday friend! <3
--
"Here," Jean Prouvaire said. "Put that on. Mind the feather."
Joly eyed the hat doubtfully. It was truly an unique specimen of haberdashery, boldly drawing inspiration from the court of Sun King, various masterpieces of Mediaeval art and the formidable imagination of its proud owner. A magnificent peacock feather, almost as long as Joly's forearm, tangled jauntily from one of it's eight tips like a banner raised in challenge or in greeting.
"Are you sure about that?" Joly asked. "You don't think it's a bit -- much?"
"You wish to make a good impression for mademoiselle Musichetta, do you not?" Jean Prouvaire said sternly. "You come to her repentant, on your knees, to make an appeal to her forgiving and generous heart. You must show that you're sincere; you must make some effort. A sonnet would be the best."
"I'm not a poet," Joly pointed out.
"Well! We all have our faults," said Jean Prouvaire. "A hat is almost as good as a poem."
"I'm not sure Musichetta will settle for a hat," Joly said. "Or a poem."
"You have said yourself that she is literary!"
Joly cast a beseeching look towards Bahorel who, far from being offended by the unexpected derailment from his own line of sartorial recommendations, was grinning from ear to ear and altogether giving every indication of enjoying himself thoroughly.
Joly scowled.
"Unless," Jean Prouvaire blanched, something occurring to him. "She's not a Neoclassicist, is she?"
"Ah. No?" answered Joly, belatedly wondering if honesty was truly a virtue. "But she's very fashionable."
"Even better! That means she must have a fine eye for the aesthetic."
Joly shrugged. The cape -- luxurious purple wool with burgundy lining - swooshed rather dramatically. "Jehan -- I very much appreciate your help. Truly. But this is very elaborate and I am a medical student. There are particular risks, you know."
"The risk of becoming so inured to the grotesque in everyday life, that one can no longer see past the banality of bloodstains." Jean Prouvaire answered, a bit sourly. "I understand, you know -- I used to attend the dissections too." He appraised Joly with a critical gaze. "No matter, I think there's hope for you yet. You do have the potential for an excellent consumptive look."
Joly blanched, "I do?"
"Not quite enough," Jean Prouvaire sighed. "But with some powder, we could -- hey, hey, stay still."
Joly, heedless of all warnings, ducked past Jean Prouvaire's outreached hand, nearly tripping on his cape in the haste to examine his complexion in the shaving mirror.
It was at this moment that Bahorel, having apparently mastered his silent merriment, suddenly leapt from his seat and gesturing at Joly to remain still, slowly stepped around him in a loose circle, considering him with great attention. Their argument forgotten, Jean Prouvaire and Joly paused to observe his progress, waiting for the verdict.
"This won't do," Bahorel said, abruptly.
Jean Prouvaire furrowed his brows. "You don't like the cape?"
"The cape is grand," said Bahorel. "But those culottes, I'm afraid, are a travesty. Our Jollly has an excellent pair of legs. But unless you can also convince him to wear heels --"
"You will not," Joly said firmly. "Beauty may demand it's sacrifices, but I have a great need of my ability to walk."
"Moreover," Bahorel continued, before Jean Prouvaire could argue. "As flattering as breeches may be for the calves, they do nothing for one's rear end."
"Joly does have a fine posterior" Jean Prouvaire conceded, a trifle mournfully. "Perhaps a more eastern style might --"
"Have you put in your order at Staub's yet?" Bahorel asked.
"More than that -- in fact the package was delivered right before you arrived," Joly answered hastily.
The famous doeskin pantalons were duly brought out and inspected by the discerning eyes of two would-be fashion critics. In the end, even the critical eye of Jean Prouvaire could find no fault in the flattering curve of Joly's derriere.
"I suppose the cape would just cover it all up," Prouvaire sighed.
"I'm afraid so," said Bahorel. "The navy blue coat, I think -- the one with silver buttons. You still have that light blue waistcoat with silver embroidery, do you not?"
"I do," Joly grinned. "Thank you, Bahorel. And you, Prouvaire," he added a bit guiltily.
"You're welcome," Jean Prouvaire said. "Don't forget the hat."
"The hat?" Joly repeated.
He glanced at the headgear still perched on the edge of his desk, the flamboyant plume defiantly pointed upwards.
It seemed to have grown a little taller.
"Ah yes," said Joly. "The hat."
He cast a quick glance at Bahorel, who grinned back with far more teeth than Joly thought strictly necessary.
"Definitely you must wear the hat," he said.  "The iridescent sheen of the feather will go very well with your coat, don't you think?"
"Ah," said Joly. "I suppose it does. Thank you."
Jean Prouvaire beamed at him.
Bahorel grinned, bright and entirely unrepentant. "Enjoy your apologies."
