i havent seen much merrily but from my understanding, kicking Charley out of his life was the last straw in Frank's corruption.

Mary says "you gotta help save me then, Charley", but Charley was saving Frank. so was she. he needed both of them to hold on to the last bit of Frank that he had, but when Charley was forced out of his life, the old Frank, the one i like to believe is the real Frank, went with him.

this would have happened if it had been Mary, too.

he needed both of them. removing Charley meant removing half of Frank, and with Mary leaving too, she went with Frank, leaving the old Frank behind.
