Terror in War, Ornament in Peace by WerewolvesAreReal ( @werewolves-are-real )
After bringing the cure to France, Napoleon points out that the execution of a Chinese prince - even an adopted one - may well spark a war between China and England. Laurence grudgingly agrees to stay in France with the expectation that he and Temeraire will live a long and boring life away from any fighting, but he doesn't expect Napoleon's persistence. Completed, 53k words.
Chap 1:
“Temeraire,” acknowledges the Emperor; he is mounted, and he and Lien depart. Temeraire has gone very still. “Laurence,” he says quietly. “I am sorry. It was not my intention - “ “Hang it all,” Laurence says. “We are traitors.” And, finally, he puts his head in his hands and weeps.
Chap 2:
On the field soldiers brandish their bayonets and rush at the enemy. Screams and cries of pain rise with renewed energy. Those who cannot reach any foe simply raise their swords in salute. Vive L'Emperour. Laurence closing his eyes and leans back his head. Chosen, Murat said. He takes a breath. The cheers are endless, endless. It is, he thinks, not terrible to be deluded. And beside him Harcourt says, “Oh, Laurence - What have you done?”
[...]
Laurence stiffens. He half-turns to where Napoléon is smiling pleasantly at the watching assemblage. His mind scrambles, but at last he swallows past the sudden dryness in his throat. “Mother,” he says. “I introduce to you His Imperial Highness Napoléon Bonaparte – Lady Allendale, Napoléon.”
[...]
Someone in the crowd steps forward. He is carrying in his limp grip a dinner knife, dull and greasy, as one might use for chicken or turkey. “God, we will not have it,” he says. “We will not just stand here - “ Laurence pulls out his sword and steps in front of the Emperor. “Sir, I would not advise that,” he says grimly. Silence stretches on. People are shifting away, but the overwhelming aura is not one of anger – not one of rebellion. It is fear. No one else tries to challenge them *** “Why the devil would you bring him?” George asks. They are standing in the kitchen. Frightened servants duck around them, more than necessarily need to be present; no one wants to be in the main hall right now where Napoléon is making his rounds and trying to charm his resentful new subjects. “It was hardly a matter of choice; he invited himself.”
[...]
“No. I have considered the matter at length, and I shall send along my brother Louis when the time comes. He has made noises about courting, though I do not think he will truly enjoy it; there are many rumors that he prefers the company of men.” “ - I see,” Laurence manages. [...] “Do you never break tradition?” “With good motive,” say Laurence unthinkingly. “Then you shall have it,” says Napoléon, “If it shall take me a hundred years to convince you of the fact.” Stepping closer, he touches Laurence's neck before leaning in and kissing his cheek so closely that his lips skim the corner of his mouth. Laurence says nothing; without another word Napoléon exits, and the door clicks quietly behind him. Laurence is not a fool. Slow in the realization, perhaps, but not a fool. He stares at the shut door, and as his wits return he can only think to say: “Oh, damn it all.”
[...]
“I am a traitor,” Laurence says. “Well, yes,” says Granby. He pours himself a cup of tea – ignoring Gardinier's cluck of disapproval from long habit – and sits down at the nearby table with Laurence and Tharkay. “No – I am a traitor.” Granby looks at him a moment. He blinks slowly. “Oh,” he says. Tharkay... sighs. “Will. Are you only just learning this?”
[...]
It has been settled,” Napoléon says. “ - We are going to war with Spain. I would be gratified, dear William, to have you by my side in that campaign – to have you as a Marshal of France. Will you oblige me in this?” Laurence says nothing for a moment. “How could I do otherwise?” he says at last. Napoléon smiles and pours him another drink. Laurence looks into his glass for a moment, thinking of England, his family, his old vows lost and forsaken. He drains the glass and thinks of France.

CLOSED STARTER || @margaretmulgrave LOCATION || Harcour House DATE || January 1801
After a stay between their home in Nuneham and Blenheim Palace, the new earl and countess Harcourt had made their return to London, where the season was in full swing. Families flocked to London for the opening of parliament. Already, the modiste had a line out the door with mama’s fussing over their daughters. The Queen’s presentation had yet to begin and already but Richard’s mind was not on the upcoming debutants. Even as he walked through the bustling streets, all Richard could think about was Margaret.
As soon as they had arrived in London, Richard had begun to feel as if something had shifted between the two. At first he assumed it was because they did not travel for their honeymoon but Margaret wasn’t the type to hold onto such trivial things, or so Richard had assumed. With the hassle of travel, Richard had assumed his wife needed a treat, and that was the reason for his early morning errand. Gunters had only just opened for the day and Richard was there, waiting outside to pick up a scoop of peach ice cream and another of almond, the very flavors Margaret had picked when they first met. It seemed a little romantic to Richard but he wanted this season to be smoother sailing than their previous one.
When Richard arrived back at Harcourt house, he planned on heading right up to the drawing room where Margaret likely was but his valet, John Marshall, stopped Richard in his tracks. John was a good man, always loyal to the Harcourt’s, so when he expressed concern over Margaret’s supposed lack of appetite and increased fatigue, Richard’s heart started to race. He would not lose another person in his life, though Marshall tried to assure him that the news was not so dire, Richard simply could not hear the latter part.
Rushing into the drawing room, Richard must have looked like a madman. He practically burst into the room with the icecream still in hand. “I apologize for interrupting you.” Richard looked at his wife and saw she looked perfectly well. He felt rather foolish. “I…” I coughed to clear his throat. “I thought I would surprise you with some ice cream before it melts.” John was right behind Richard, placing spoons down for the newlyweds with a concerned look casting over Margaret. “Are you well my dear, John said you weren’t feeling well and I was a little worried.” A little was a bit of an understatement but Richard did not want to worry her.

International Fire Safety Standards: Adherence and Certification
Tumblr media
Fire safety is a global concern, and adherence to international standards is paramount in ensuring the safety of lives and properties. In Nigeria, obtaining fire certification, enrolling in fire courses, and participating in fire training programs in cities like Port Harcourt are essential steps towards maintaining compliance with international fire safety standards. In this article, we'll explore the significance of international fire safety standards, the importance of fire certification in Nigeria, available fire courses, and the role of fire training in Port Harcourt.
Understanding International Fire Safety Standards
International fire safety standards encompass a set of guidelines, regulations, and best practices aimed at preventing, mitigating, and managing fire-related risks and emergencies. These standards are developed and maintained by organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the International Fire Engineering Guidelines (IFEG). Key aspects of international fire safety standards include:
Fire Prevention: Measures to minimize fire hazards, implement fire prevention strategies, and promote safety awareness.
Fire Protection Systems: Installation, maintenance, and testing of fire detection, alarm, suppression, and evacuation systems.
Emergency Response: Training, drills, and procedures for responding to fires, evacuating occupants, and coordinating with emergency services.
Building Design and Construction: Fire-resistant materials, escape routes, compartmentation, and access for firefighters in buildings and structures.
Occupant Safety: Education, training, and communication strategies to ensure occupants are informed and prepared for fire emergencies.
Importance of Fire Certification in Nigeria
Fire certification in Nigeria is a formal recognition of compliance with national and international fire safety standards and regulations. Fire certification is typically obtained through accredited training providers, fire safety agencies, or regulatory bodies. The benefits of fire certification include:
Legal Compliance: Demonstrates adherence to fire safety laws, codes, and regulations, reducing the risk of penalties, fines, or legal liabilities.
Safety Assurance: Provides assurance to occupants, visitors, and stakeholders that fire safety measures are in place and effective.
Risk Management: Enhances risk management efforts by identifying, assessing, and mitigating fire-related risks in facilities and environments.
Professional Recognition: Recognizes the competence, expertise, and commitment of individuals and organizations to fire safety standards and practices.
Insurance Requirements: Some insurance policies may require fire certification as a condition for coverage or to qualify for premium discounts.
Fire Courses in Nigeria
In Nigeria, various fire courses are available to individuals, professionals, and organizations seeking to enhance their knowledge, skills, and capabilities in fire safety management. These courses cover a range of topics, including fire prevention, firefighting techniques, fire risk assessment, emergency response planning, fire safety inspections, and fire safety audits. Some popular fire courses in nigeria include:
Basic Fire Safety Course: Provides foundational knowledge of fire safety principles, fire behavior, fire prevention strategies, and emergency evacuation procedures.
Advanced Fire Safety Course: Expands on basic concepts with in-depth training on fire protection systems, fire suppression techniques, fire risk assessment, and incident management.
Fire Safety Management Course: Focuses on developing and implementing comprehensive fire safety management plans, policies, procedures, and training programs for organizations.
Fire Warden Training: Prepares individuals to serve as fire wardens or fire marshals responsible for fire safety inspections, evacuation coordination, and emergency response leadership.
Fire Safety Audit Training: Equips professionals with skills to conduct fire safety audits, assess compliance with fire safety standards, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
Role of Fire Training in Port Harcourt
Port Harcourt, as a major industrial and commercial center in Nigeria, emphasizes the importance of fire training to ensure workplace safety, protect critical infrastructure, and minimize fire-related risks. fire training in port harcourtt plays a crucial role in:
Industry Compliance: Ensuring that industries, businesses, and facilities in Port Harcourt comply with national and international fire safety standards and regulations.
Occupational Safety: Equipping workers, employees, and safety officers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to prevent fires, respond to emergencies, and evacuate safely.
Risk Reduction: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating fire hazards, chemical risks, electrical hazards, and other safety threats in industrial and commercial settings.
Emergency Response Preparedness: Training personnel to effectively respond to fires, conduct evacuations, operate fire suppression equipment, and coordinate with emergency services.
Continual Improvement: Promoting a culture of continuous learning, improvement, and best practices in fire safety management and emergency preparedness.
Conclusion
Adherence to international fire safety standards, obtaining fire certification, participating in fire courses, and engaging in fire training programs are crucial elements of promoting fire safety and emergency preparedness in Nigeria, including cities like Port Harcourt. By prioritizing fire safety education, training, and compliance, individuals, professionals, and organizations contribute to safer workplaces, resilient communities, and effective fire risk management. Investing in fire training and certification not only enhances safety but also demonstrates a commitment to excellence, professionalism, and responsibility in fire safety management.

Good morning, everyone! Apologies that it’s been a hot minute since I’ve really come on here to make a deals post, things have been crazy and I’ve been up and down mentally so it’s been challenging to get the motivation to do things, but I’m feeling okay today so I figured I should share some of the many awesome books on sale today!
How are you all doing? It’s been a while and a lot has been going on, both in personal lives and in the world around us, and I hope you are all able to take some time to sort of mental relax and find a safe space to reflect and comfort yourselves. :)
There were a lot of books on sale, so I did my best to throw in as many as I could, but obviously it’s not even close to all of them, haha. There’s a nice array of genres and mix of adult and YA, and a couple full trilogies/series! And if you’re a YA fan then definitely take a look because there seemed to be a lot of that today! One of my favorite books is The Crimson Petal and the White, so that’s one I always recommend. I also have read and enjoyed The Hungry Tide, the entire Tade Thompson trilogy (starting with Rosewater!), and I loved The Wicker King!
Anyway, I hope you all have a great day--happy reading! And happy Pride! :)

Marshall Harcourt for Lilith’s Bachelorette Challenge
[Audio playing, first promo shot shown]
"People know Marshall Harcourt's name by now, but even more knew his voice before. After being a radio show host for years, he became a sought-after voice actor. Over the last years, Harcourt's voice starred in several trailers, games, animated series, and dubs. Lately, Harcourt has stepped in front of the camera after being cast as Reaper's leading role Elian Grim. Harcourt's love life, on the other hand, isn't as successful as his blossoming acting career. Maybe he can win Lilith Vatore's heart in the upcoming BC."
[Pause, transition to second promo shot]
"Marshall Harcourt revealed he didn't sign up for Lilith Vatore's BC himself. His friends, whose names he didn't disclose, knew about his long-time crush on Lilith Vatore and signed up Harcourt for the show. Harcourt told Simlebrity Gossip when he received the news about making it through the preselection and now has to submit an in-depth application tape; he still thought it was a prank. …"
[Audio Ends, cut to Marshall talking to the camera]
"There you have it: the story on how I got to make this video. [laughs] It’s true I have a growing affection for you, but I was too reluctant to make the first move. Honestly, when it comes to making friends or finding love, I’m ... guarded. Unfortunately, I am also selective about the people I spend my time with. After my friends signed me up for the Bachelorette, I had to choose. I could either resign or commit. Now that I’ve overcome that first awkwardness, I’d love to get to know you and see where it takes us. [smiles] We already have something important in common. We are family people. Our family is the most important to each of us. No matter if it’s by blood or chosen. What else can I tell that the gossip reporters didn’t drag to the light of day already? [blows raspberries] I’m not a born and bred San My denizen. I was born and raised in Britechester. Exactly. That city whose denizens are said to be more stuck-up than Windenburgians. [chuckles] But living in DSV while shooting Reaper made me realize I am not made to live in this city. I will always return to San My."
Here he is: Marshall Harcourt, my entry to @hauntedplasma‘s BC.
Basic Info
Name: Marshall Harcourt Gender: Male Pronouns: he/him D.o.B.: May 28, 1989 Age: 33 Zodiac Sign: Gemini Height: 1,79m | 5′10″ Sexual Orientation: Heteroromantic, Demisexual
Occupation: Radio Host, Voice Actor, Actor Basic Traits: Active | Snob | Art Lover Occult: Master Vampire (Unknown to public)
Random Facts
Reaper is based loosely on Lucifer. But since EA didn't adapt the devil to the Simmiverse, I had to improvise. In Reaper, Elian Grim, a.k.a. the Grim Reaper, has seen too many killers getting away with murder. The Grim Reaper doesn't kill; they're a guide and guardian for the souls of the deceased. So the Grim Reaper takes on the role of Elian Grim, a historian and true-crime podcaster who investigates cold cases. By doing this, the Grim Reaper hopes to gather enough evidence to prove what they saw when they came to guide the soul to the afterlife. Soon the police's interest is piqued, and Elian joins forces with detective Omar Hamilton.
Marshall's voice claim is German actor Manou Lubowski. Lubowski is Tom Ellis's German voice actor on Lucifer.
After Marshall finished his Drama degree at Britechester, he moved to San Myshuno to work for a local radio station.
Although he loves playing Elian Grim, Marshall hopes he can return to voice acting or radio show hosting after Reaper finishes.
Marshall loves art and donates to Casbah Gallery regularly to help fund their art programs.
Marshall spends his alone time at art galleries, running, or excercising at the gym.
Marshall loves to joke how his distinct canine teeth landed him the role of Elian Grim thanks to the uncanny aura they give him.

SELF PARA: COLCHESTER MULBERRY SOIREE
Richard was not surprised to get an invitation from Baron Colchester, asking him to attend the Mulberry Soiree. Despite his recent scandals coming to light and a bastard born to French nobility, Richard Harcourt was due to marry into the Mulgraves. Though he would not inherit the duke title through marriage, Richard was binding himself and all future Harcourt’s to one of the most illustrious families in England. Of course he would be on the list.
He reddied himself alone, well, with his valet, John Marshall, at Harcourt house, his mind wondering on who he could possibly see. Some faces Richard had not seen since his engagement and of course he found himself smiling at the thought of seeing his intended again. Richard was starting to look forward to social events in London again. “What do you think John, do I look suitable for the soiree?” Richard asked as he adjusted himself in the mirror. His valet nodded before fixing the earl’s valet. “You do sir and I am sure Miss Mulgrave will appreciate you choosing an emerald green cravat.” Richard had spoken with John at length, blurring the lines sometimes between friendship and servitude between the two, about his hopes of having a good life.
Richard nodded before he approved of his look. The season was drawing to an end and every event seemed to be more important than the last. Richard made sure that he would arrive just in time. Nothing was more embarrassing than turning up to an event early.

2021 reading list
Thank you for tagging me, @quatregats! 🥰
In 2020, I barely met my 70-books Goodreads goal, because I mainly read on my daily commute to uni and due to the pandemic I haven't had to go there since March.
Furthermore, the German uni I’m currently attending is only a 10-minute walk from my house, so no time to read.
Since I’ll only have presence lectures one week a month when I finish my Erasmus stay, I’m not expecting to read a lot this year (besides mandatory readings for my courses), so my Goodreads goal is only 50 books.
In case you’re curious about what I read in 2020, here’s my Goodreads account :)

By • Olalekan Fagbade Air Force Officers' Wives [NAFOWA] bemoans growing menace of drug abuse in the Country The Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) has bemoaned the growing menace of drug abuse and its disturbing societal trend. The National President of the association, Mrs Rakiya Abubakar, during her maiden visit to NAFOWA institutions and Logistics Command Chapter in Lagos on Tuesday. Abubakar said that drug abuse had become a disturbing and worrisome menace that had derailed the youth from attaining great potential. Abubakar appealed to all NAFOWA and Airmen Wives Association (AWA) members to keep very close watch on their children and know in details their friends and associates. “We must get involved in the lives and activities of our children to eradicate this menace in the base and in the society at large. “More worrisome is the fact that the girl-child and even the aged have joined this ugly and unproductive trend. “I am very concerned about this societal ill that I am considering establishing a NAFOWA Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Centre which will be part of my mandate and legacy,” she said. The president said that upon assumption of office in July, her adminstration was confronted with a little challenge as regards shop rentage and event centres especially in Lagos and Port Harcourt. “After objective investigations, we found out that the problem is a little above our reach and we sought the intervention of Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF). “The matter is favourably handled at the headquarters and I have kept track of the issue to ensure it ends in NAFOWA’s interest. “I want to assure those who have paid for rentage in NAFOWA shops, that they will not lose their money or its value,” she said. Abubakar said that the association was also embarking on schools reforms through improved curricular and academic syllabuses, infrastructural upgrade as well as installation of modern equipment. According to her, the association has so far refurbished classrooms, carried out roof leakages repairs and installed new toilet fittings in the 20 toilets of NAFOWA Little Angels, Asokoro, Abuja. “We have also opened primary 6 and equipped it with all the necessary learning aids in NAFOWA Little Angels, Kaduna. “I have instructed the liaison officer to take note of all the structural and equipment deficiencies with the view of effecting immediate repairs in NAFOWA Little Angels, Lagos,” Abubakar said. The president said that the association collaborated with the Ministry of Labour to upgrade its vocational centres to become trade test licensed centres. “I am pleased to inform you that Lagos vocational centre has just been licensed by the Ministry of Labour as a trade test centre. “We have also identified various initiatives that will empower and support NAFOWA and AWA members which we believe will enhance skills and add value to the family line. “These initiatives will soon be communicated to all chapters in order to have seamless implementation,” Abubakar said. Also, the NAFOWA Chairperson, Lagos chapter, Mrs Aishat Abdullahi, thanked the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, for his unwavering support to NAFOWA’s activities. “We remain eternally grateful for the moral, financial and kind aids and gesture you have graciously been rendering. “You can count on our unalloyed loyalty in actualising your command philosophy,” she said. She also extended her gratitude to the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, AVM Yaro Abdullahi, and all his commanders for the generous support to NAFOWA Logistics Command Chapter.
